MOViEMENT

Bågander, Linnea January 2013 (has links)
This work explores the relationship between body and garment in movement. The method for investigation this meeting is through geometrical shapes that are applied on three points on the body. When researching materials, mesh was the most interesting one in its way of responding to the movements and it was easily combined with other material, when combines the effect from the movement increased. The dialog of movement is depending on the space between garment an wearer. It is in the space that the restrictions and the possibilities are created. The shapes are lacking details of traditional garments and are far from the commercial fashion scene to take this work further more garment-like influences could be added, it might also make the work easier to grasp for the audience. / Program: Modedesignutbildningen

Development of high performance structure and ligand based virtual screening techniques

Shave, Steven R. January 2010 (has links)
Virtual Sreening (VS) is an in silico technique for drug discovery. An overview of VS methods is given and is seen to be approachable from two sides: structure based and ligand based. Structure based virtual screening uses explicit knowledge of the target receptor to suggest candidate receptor-ligand complexes. Ligand based virtual screening can infer required characteristics of binders from known ligands. A consideration for all virtual screening techniques is the amount of computing time required to arrive at a solution. For this reason, techniques of high performance computing have been applied to both the structural and ligand based approaches. A proven structure based virtual screening code LIDAEUS (Ligand Discovery At Edinburgh University) has been ported and parallelised to a massively parallel computing platform, the University of Edinburgh’s IBM Bluegene/l, consisting of 2,048 processor cores. A challenge in achieving scaling to such a large number of processors required implementation of a minimal communication parallel sort algorithm. Parallel efficiencies achieved within this parallelisation exceeded 99%, confirming that a near optimum strategy has been followed and capacity for running the code on a greater number of processors exists. This implementation of the program has been successfully used with a number of protein targets. The development of a new ligand based virtual screening code has been completed. The program UFSRAT (Ultra Fast Shape Recognition with Atom Types) takes the features of known binders and suggests molecules which will be able to make similar interactions. This similarity method is both fast (1 million molecules per hour per processor) and independent of input orientation. Along with UFSRAT, some other methods (VolRAT and UFSRGraph) based on UFSRAT have been developed, addressing different approaches to ligand based virtual screening. UFSRAT as an approach to discovering novel protein-ligand complexes has been validated with the discovery of a number of inhibitors for 11β-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase type 1 and FK binding protein 12.

Turbine Generator Performance Dashboard for Predictive Maintenance Strategies

Emily R Rada (11813852) 19 December 2021 (has links)
<div>Equipment health is the root of productivity and profitability in a company; through the use of machine learning and advancements in computing power, a maintenance strategy known as Predictive Maintenance (PdM) has emerged. The predictive maintenance approach utilizes performance and condition data to forecast necessary machine repairs. Predicting maintenance needs reduces the likelihood of operational errors, aids in the avoidance of production failures, and allows for preplanned outages. The PdM strategy is based on machine-specific data, which proves to be a valuable tool. The machine data provides quantitative proof of operation patterns and production while offering machine health insights that may otherwise go unnoticed.</div><div><br> </div><div>Purdue University's Wade Utility Plant is responsible for providing reliable utility services for the campus community. The Wade Utility Plant has invested in an equipment monitoring system for a thirty-megawatt turbine generator. The equipment monitoring system records operational and performance data as the turbine generator supplies campus with electricity and high-pressure steam. Unplanned and surprise maintenance needs in the turbine generator hinder utility production and lessen the dependability of the system.</div><div><br> </div> The work of this study leverages the turbine generator data the Wade Utility Plant records and stores, to justify equipment care and provide early error detection at an in-house level. The research collects and aggregates operational, monitoring and performance-based data for the turbine generator in Microsoft Excel, creating a dashboard which visually displays and statistically monitors variables for discrepancies. The dashboard records ninety days of data, tracked hourly, determining averages, extrema, and alerting the user as data approaches recommended warning levels. Microsoft Excel offers a low-cost and accessible platform for data collection and analysis providing an adaptable and comprehensible collection of data from a turbine generator. The dashboard offers visual trends, simple statistics, and status updates using 90 days of user selected data. This dashboard offers the ability to forecast maintenance needs, plan work outages, and adjust operations while continuing to provide reliable services that meet Purdue University's utility demands. <br>

VILKA ERFARENHETER HAR ELITCOACHER AV ÄTSTÖRNINGAR HOS UTÖVARE INOM LAGIDROTT?

Larsson, Alicia, Nyberg, Cornelia January 2023 (has links)
Eating disorders is a serious problem within sports that can affect both male and female athletes on various levels. Athletes often encounter high performance- and body image requirements, which can result in an unhealthy relationship to food and body image. This leads to health problems such as malnourishment, impaired performance and, in serious cases, life threatening conditions. The work aims to identify what knowledge elite coaches and coaches on elite prepatory level within teamsports have regarding eating disorders. This is explored through semi-structured interviews with six coaches in three teamsports. The results of the interviews showed that coaches have basic knowledge of eating disorders. Their knowledge of symptoms, in-depth knowledge of the meaning of the eating disorders and how to handle the diseases was shown to be insufficient. The results also showed that external factors affect both adepts and coaches experiences and thereby coaches opportunities to act. In the discussion it is established that knowledge is the foundation to several problems, and that the sportunions must help the sports association to handle them. Both by providing more knowledge, but also guidelines for how people who have developed or is about to develop a eating disorder can be helped

: En Litteraturstudie med Meta-analys / Effect of ß-alaninesupplement on Musclecarnosine, Bloodlactate and Physical performance : A Literature Study with Meta-Analysis

Fredriksson, Benjamin January 2019 (has links)
Background: The use of dietary supplements has increased in recent years. Which leads to the continuous production of new supplements that have no evidence of effect. A dietary supplement that has gained increased interest in recent years is β-alanine. For activities where glycolysis is stimulated and lactic acid production is high, β-alanine has been suggested to be an effective supplement. The effects and functions of ß-alanine in the body are not fully established. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of ß-alanine supplementation on muscle carnosine concentration, blood lactate, muscle strength and endurance/time to exhaustion. Method: The study is designed as a systematic literature study with meta-analysis. Pubmed was used as a database for the literature search. Meta-assays were performed for carnosine concentration and blood lactate. Result: Dosage at 3.2g / day of β-alanine for 4 weeks shows significant effects on carnosine concentration. The size of the effect on carnosine concentration between the groups after 4 weeks of supplementation was 1,255 (p = 0.001). The effect size between the groups for 8-10 weeks was 2,054 (p = 0.008). No significant effects on blood lactate, the effect size between the groups was 0.148 (p = 0.278). Significant effect of βalanine on time to fatigue (TTE) in high intensity cycling. β-alanine supplementation showed significant effects on a repetition max (1RM) and whole body strength (WBS). 2 Conclusion: β-alanine supplementation with a dosage of at least 3.2g / day for 4 weeks gives a significant increase in muscle carnosine concentration. Larger dosages than 3.2g does not show greater effect. β-alanine does not have a significant effect on blood lactate. Significant effect was shown on TTE for high intensity cycling sprints. The ßalanine supplemental effect on muscle strength is difficult to identify because only two studies could be included.

Effectiveness of Benefits Management Frameworks : in monitoring and controlling public sectors projects in the United Kingdom / Effectiveness of BRM Frameworks : in monitoring and controlling public sectors projects in the UK

AbuElmaati, Ahmed, Bernløv, Trym Sørensen January 2021 (has links)
Purpose – This research aims to explore the effectiveness of utilising Benefits Realisation Management (BRM) as part of comprehensive success measures, emphasising the stage in-between appraisal and evaluation of projects in the UK public sector. Design/methodology/approach – The study is constructed as a qualitative case study. Semi-structured interviews are used as part of the inductive, exploratory approach to achieve the study's objectives. It employs an approach based on grounded theory for its analysis. Findings – This paper suggests that Benefits Realisation Management is not used effectively in the UK public sector during projects lifetime to control and monitor projects and ensure their success. The current reviews of projects and programmes, through their execution, may not be sufficient. Research limitations/implications – This study offers contributions to the project success literature and benefits management literature by adding empirically supported insights about BM utilisation during project reviews. The research may be limited primarily by the research method – predominantly the snow-balling data collection. The assumptions made about the UK public sector may limit the broader generalisation of the findings. Practical implications – This research may be used to advise the practising managers of the need to maintain benefits orientation after appraisal throughout a project's lifetime and after delivery. Project governance structures are advised to update and improve their current project review practices. The study additionally identifies possible obstacles to the process and biases. Originality/value – This paper attempts to fill a literature gap by providing empirical results that explore the success definition and measures and the effectiveness of BRM during project execution and gate reviews. Keywords: Benefits Management; Project Success; Project Performance; Performance Measurement; Public Sector. Paper type: Research Thesis

Utveckling av Key Performance Indicators genom underhållstrategi för processindustrin / Development of Key Performance Indicators through maintenance strategy for the process industry

Arif, Safin January 2019 (has links)
The following thesis work has been carried out as a case study at BillerudKorsnäs together with a literature study which has given rise to the theoretical frame of reference which fundamentally laid the foundation for the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) measurement structure designed for the company. Furthermore, data collection in the form of internal and external benchmarking together with document studies, semi-structured interviews and structured observations has been carried out in order to get a complete view of the current situation as possible in accordance with the guidelines for scientific research approach. The research covers the subject area of maintenance technology and aims to map the maintenance strategy to be able to design a (KPI’s) measurement structure for BillerudKorsnäs maintenance organization. The thesis then gives rise to the analysis section which, with the support of the theoretical frame of reference, describes the improvement proposals and future recommendations to elucidate world-class maintenance and reliability. The study presents maintenance operations based on Swedish standards and “leading and lagging” measurement structure as a scientific basis. This has resulted in a defined metric structure with key performance measures for a maintenance organization where the maintenance strategy is connected to the company's vision and strategy. The question linked to the problem formulation permeates the research and is about explaining how to link to the maintenance strategy and describing which KPIs are to be reported, in order to create an efficient and productive maintenance organization that functions in accordance to the maintenance goals set on BillerudKorsnäs- Sulfatfabrik. The results of the conducted research show that the KPI- structure has not been established in accordance with BillerudKorsnäs' maintenance strategy at a cooperation level, furthermore, the key figures do not show an effect metric relevant to the maintenance operations and the factory management. The proposed improvement proposal proposes a new KPI- structure that provides measurability to the industrial maintenance operation and is symmetrical with BillerudKorsnäs vision and strategy for "Best working methods" in world-class maintenance and reliability.
