A study on relationship between project manager behavior and employee job performance in Kaohsiung Rapid Transit building project

Cheng, Hui-Wen 06 February 2006 (has links)
Title of Thesis : A study on relationship between project manager behavior and employee job performance in Kaohsiung Rapid Transit building project Name of student: Hui-Wen Cheng Advisor: Dr. Jin-Feng Uen Abstract: The project style organization is normal state in many businesses. The purpose of mission of project is finish job quality by limit budget. Nowadays, Engineering or building project by cooperation to under take a large scale public engineering to resolve problems of plan, design and work. The combinations of project members are provisional, maybe they are work for the different departments for the same company or they work for different companies, maybe they are short-tern workers for project, so the employee source of project is complicated. And there are many important works for building projects, including control budget, plan, and resources distribution properly, so project management is difficult, and project manager¡¦s role is very important. Manager has to share information, trend participated leadership with team and discuss openly to solve problem to complete project. Manager also needs to encourage team members to work together in the project management. This case refers to several references, project manger behaviors defines the following: concern for people, information provide, job goals, external relations and performance rewords. Therefore, project manager behaviors for project organization of members have certain inflation and also has indirectly effect ion. This is a case of KMRT and studies between project manager behavior and employees of job performance including employees of job satisfied, employees of individual personality and job enrichment, etc. It also studies in some circumstances between project manager behavior and employees of job performance. These evidences show as followings¡G 1. Project manager emphasizes information provide and it obviously affect with employees of job performance. 2. Project manager emphasizes concern for people and it obviously affect with employees of job satisfaction. 3. Project manager emphasizes information provide and it obviously affect with employees of job satisfaction. 4. Job enrichment for project manager to emphasize performance and employee of job satisfaction is effective interruptedly. 5. Project employees of different departments for project manager to emphasize concern for people and employee of job satisfaction is effective interruptedly. 6. Age of project employees for project manager to emphasize external relations and employee of job satisfaction is effective interruptedly. 7. Project employees of different departments for project manager to emphasize external relations and employee of job satisfaction is effective interruptedly. 8. Project employees of different positions for project manager to emphasize external relations and employee of job satisfaction is effective interruptedly.

Optimering av projektering i byggbranschen / Optimization of project planning in the construction industry

Dedic, Benjamin, Ekström, Philip, Nilsson, Henrik January 2015 (has links)

Kask, Sara, Brala, Martin January 2015 (has links)
The meaning of conducting projects has changed over time. A long time ago it could be a matter of building pyramids, today a project may consist of implementing a new IT-system. In recent decades, the project work form has become the most common approach for execution of organizational activities, both in the industry sector and public administration. Approximately 90 % of all projects conducted today are being run under circumstances where several projects are carried out in parallel, which has given rise to so-called multi-project environments. Previous research highlights a number of negative consequences that arise in multi-project environments, where the most prominent characteristics are time constraints including tight deadlines, fragmentation as a single project manager is in charge of several projects simultaneously, and resource conflicts as resources within the same organization are shared between several project managers and line units.   The purpose of our study is to apply Amabile and Kramer's (2011) concept of inner work life, to explore how project managers are affected from working in a multi-project environment. Our research question is therefore: what are the impacts on project managers inner work life from working in a multi-project environment? Amabile and Kramer's (2011) concept contains a total of twelve different categories that affect an individual's inner work life. To answer the question, we used a qualitative approach. Four project managers working in multi-project environments in the private sector were interviewed. In order to analyze their responses we used a thematic analysis approach. The results of the study indicates that project managers are affected both negatively and positively from working in multi-project environments, where negative impact is most prevalent from an overall perspective.

Stressorer och copingstrategier hos projektledare i interna förändringsprojekt / Stressors and Coping Strategies among Project Managers in Internal Change Projects

Bengtsson Lantz, Anna, Strand, Rebecca, Svensson Birath, Zara January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to scrutinize stressors and describe problem and emotional focused coping strategies among project managers in internal change projects within for-profit organisations. Seen from the theoretical background in which projects of change are complex, demand priority of resources and above that often encounter resistance, five different areas of problems were identified within internal change projects. A qualitative method was used in which semi-structured interviews with six respondents were held at different for-profit organisations, which used a thematic analysis through coding. The result of the study shows twelve stressors related to the identified areas of problems. Examples of stressors within the different areas of problems include managing resistance to change and a lack of communication. Problem focused coping strategies related to internal change projects are plan and prioritize, create limits and communicate. Emotional focused coping strategies are avoiding, active recovery and social support. The study also shows that the stressors influence each other and in combination can influence the project in a different way. Moreover the coping strategies can be linked together with specific stressors. For example, the stressor time pressure and a heavy work-load can be linked to the problem focused coping strategy plan and prioritize.

A model for predicting the performance of project managers in mass house building projects in Ghana

Ahadzie, Divine Kwaku January 2007 (has links)
Presently, within the human resource management (HRM) genre and including the construction management discipline, the identification and development of appropriate performance measures is seen as the only viable means for validating and engendering managerial excellence. There is also a growing awareness that appropriate predictive modelling practices can help engender the identification and development of these measures. Against the background that project-based sectors of the construction industry in developing countries need to adopt a proactive approach towards recognising and embedding performance measures in HRM practices, this thesis addresses the development of a model for predicting the performance of project managers (PMs) in mass house building projects (MHBPs) in Ghana. A literature review of the significance of performance measures in the HRM genre is first presented including an evaluation of the methodologies for measuring the performance of PMs. This is followed by a review of research and development in the management of human resources in the construction industry in developing countries including Ghana. Informed by the literature, an appropriate theoretical framework is adopted which draws on the organisational psychology theory of job performance, the conventional wisdom in project success criteria and an emerging framework of project lifecycle. Subsequently, a competency-based multidimensional conceptual model is developed. The conceptual model reflects both the elements of performance behaviours and outcomes in predicting the performance of PMs at the conceptual, design, tender, procurement, construction and operational phases of the project lifecycle. Adopting positivism as an appropriate research paradigm, structured questionnaire survey is used to elicit the relevant data from property developers in Ghana for the construction phase of the project lifecycle. Subsequently the data is analysed using one-sample t-test, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis (stepwise). From a broad range of competency-based measures used as independent variables, it is found that, the best predictors of the PMs’ performance at the “construction phase” of MHBPs are: job knowledge in site layout techniques for repetitive construction works; dedication in helping works contractors to achieve works programme; job knowledge of appropriate technology transfer for repetitive construction works; effective time management practices on the house-units; ability to provide effective solution to conflicts while maintaining good relationships; ease with which the PM is approachable by works contractors; and volunteering to help works contractors solve personal problems. These independent variables explained 74.4% of the variance in the model (at p < 0.0005). Validation of the model confirmed its goodness of fit and hence predictive accuracy. The findings suggest that at the construction phase of MHBPs, PMs who exhibit these behavioural competencies are likely to achieve higher levels of performance. Accordingly, PMs who aspire to achieve better managerial performance outcome on MHBPs should strive towards developing and improving these competencies. It is contended that the developed model could be used by property developers for the selection and recruitment of potential PMs and also for developing appropriate training requirements towards best practice improvement in the implementation of MHBPs. While the study focuses on Ghana, there is the potential for the model to be adopted for use by other developing countries towards the advancement of improved HRM activities in project management practice.

Specifika projektové činnosti v sociální sféře / Specifics of the project activities in the social sphere

KADRNOŽKOVÁ, Renata January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with project activities in the social sphere. The aim was to find out the specifics of project activities in the social sphere. There was one research question in relation to the objective of the research determined: What are the common features and what is the difference between project activities in social services in the South Bohemian Region? The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part is focused on project management, non-profit sphere and especially on social services. The practical part of the thesis was done by qualitative approach. Data of drawing subsidies in social services in 2007 to 2013 in South Bohemian region program of support A were first evaluated in order to achieve the objective of the work. Semi-structured interviews with communication partners from non-profit organizations were done after. They were workers who are taking care of project activities in their work. Criteria for the selection of communication partners were anomalies in the allocated subsidies for social services from the support program A for the organizations in which the communication partners were employed at the time of the interviews. The interview was also conducted with a grant specialist from the South Bohemian Region. The research found that in Support Program A was supported most of these social services: nursing service, professional social counseling and homes for the elderly. On the other side, the following social services were the least supported: therapeutic communities, interpreting services, support for independent housing. Furthermore, the average subsidy from project activities to one social service, the minimum subsidy and the maximum subsidy were determined. Interviews with communication partners showed that everyone is working on projects in a team and have rich experiences. The diploma thesis identified several specifics, such as budget, financial uncertainty, variability of social services, insufficient allocation of funds, financial dependency of organizations on projects, and that projects are for the basic needs of services, such as salaries of employees. This diploma thesis may be an incentive for further research in this area, or a source of information for organizations providing social services and their staff involved in project activities and drawing subsidies.

– that’s the question : A study about the project manager and the producer’s roles in the cultural environment.

Roll, Helena January 2018 (has links)
In the field of performing arts the work is often done in the form of a project. Every single theatre and opera production or concert can be regarded as a project. There are many different roles leading the work in a culture project. Producer and project manager are two of these leading roles. The difference between these two roles is not always clear. The purpose of this study is partly to try to find out whether there is any clear general definition of the two different roles within the field studied and partly to see how both producers and project managers experience their work in this context. One opera and two different music art institutions are having been studied. The study is performed by means of qualitative interviews with project managers and producers working in these institutions. The result shows there is no general definition of the leader roles and that they vary between different institutions depending on several factors. It also shows that both project managers and producers in these institutions have a positive view in the intensity of the work and the many personal contacts. At the same time, they experience stress, frustration and difficulties to relax from work. In these cultural projects you also work towards a mutual fixed dead-line. This can have a positive or negative effect. You always have the balance between art and economy constantly present.
