Les origines de la méthode psychanalytique : une étude d'histoire conceptuelle / The origins of the psychoanalytic method : a study in conceptual history

Afin de contribuer d’un point de vue épistémologique au débat actuel sur la recherche en psychanalyse, nous avons cherché à établir dans notre thèse une histoire conceptuelle des origines de la méthode psychanalytique, une méthode clinique d’investigation et de traitement développée à Vienne entre 1886 et 1896 par le neuropathologiste Sigmund Freud. Ce travail se divise en trois grandes parties. Dans la première, intitulée « les antécédents », nous proposons d’identifier au sein de la neurologie et de la psychiatrie de langue française et allemande les conditions de possibilités empiriques de l’émergence de la méthode psychanalytique. Dans la deuxième, intitulée « les précédents », l’objectif est de reconnaître à l’intérieur de cette même tradition un certain nombre de pratiques apparentées à la psychanalyse, des pratiques considérées ici comme concurrentes de la méthode de Freud. Finalement, dans la troisième et dernière partie, intitulée « les origines », nous avons essayé de comprendre la manière dont la psychanalyse s’est effectivement établie en tant que méthode clinique d’investigation et de traitement dans son contexte particulier d’émergence. À la fin de ce parcours, nous avons pu constater l’existence de trois éléments qui sont à la base de la méthode freudienne et qui se trouvent dans la continuité de ses antécédents et précédents : 1) une notion non-dualiste de psychisme ancrée dans le postulat du parallélisme psycho-physique ; 2) un modèle nosologique fondé sur une hypothèse constitutionnelle non-congénitale ; et 3) une conception dynamique des rapports psychophysiologiques entre les représentations et les affects. Enfin, nous avons conclu que, bien que la psychanalyse de Freud possède une spécificité vis-à-vis d’autres pratiques psychologiques qui lui sont contemporaines, celle-ci ne peut être considérée comme un événement historique coupé de son contexte scientifique, ni comme quelque chose d’absolument exceptionnel par rapport à d’autres savoirs sur l’être humain. / Abstract In attempting to contribute from an epistemological point of view to the current debate on psychoanalytic research, we have sought in our thesis to establish a conceptual history of the origins of the psychoanalytic method, a clinical method of investigation and treatment developed in Vienna between 1886 and 1896 by neuropathologist Sigmund Freud. This work is divided into three main parts. In the first, entitled “the antecedents”, we propose to identify within the neurology and psychiatry of French and German languages the empirical conditions of the emergence of the psychoanalytic method. In the second, entitled “the precedents”, the objective is to recognize within this same tradition a certain number of practices related to psychoanalysis, practices considered here as concurrent of Freud's method. Finally, in the third and last part, entitled “the origins”, we have tried to understand how psychoanalysis has actually established itself as a clinical method of investigation and treatment in its particular context of emergence. At the end of this itinerary, we were able to recognize the existence of three elements which are at the base of the Freudian method and which are in the continuity of its antecedents and precedents: 1) a non-dualistic notion of psyche anchored in the postulate of psycho-physical parallelism; 2) a nosological model based on a non-congenital constitutional hypothesis; and 3) a dynamic conception of the psychophysiological relationships between representations and affects. Finally, we conclude that although Freud's psychoanalysis possesses a specificity regarding other psychological and contemporary practices, it cannot be considered as a historical event disconnected from its scientific context, nor as something absolutely exceptional concerning other knowledge about the human being.

The Psychoanalytic Situation as a Play Situation: Exploration of a multi-faceted clinical situation

The research question was stirred by observations that the set-up of the clinical situation seems to contain elements that have a deep impact on the patient. I found that the clinical situation shows important similarities to the space for play that children negotiate when they want to immerse themselves in mutual phantasy play. Consequently, one overall purpose of the present study is to explore the psychoanalytic situation as a play situation with the help of two clinical vignettes.In the first part, I give a picture of my understanding of Freud’s reasons for shaping his clinical situation as he did. A critical scrutiny of Freud’s case of the Rat Man gave us keys to an understanding of the clinical method’s contradictoriness.A tentative hypothesis was framed that the set-up of psychoanalysis’s clinical situation induces an ambiguity about different levels of reality, the purpose being to create a space in the course of the analysis in which this confusion can be analyzed and comprehended. This work on the ambiguity of the reality links psychoanalysis with the intimate and spontaneous interaction that characterizes children’s social phantasy play. The investigation came to the conclusion that there exists a conspicuous equivalence between the two situations. The issue of what connects the universal play situation of children on the one hand, with the specific psychoanalytic situation on the other, makes a point of departure from which to approach and investigate the field of inquiry.The theory is that a ‘play’ with factual and illusory asymmetry generates a field of tension that serves as a sounding board from the moment of psychoanalysis's introductory negotiations until its ending. A third area is created that supports a mutual explorative space that in its turn makes a bridge between outer and inner reality and between now and the past. In such a context the phenomenon of play becomes a transformational concept.The conclusion is that psychoanalysis organizes a clinical situation that speaks to a profound and universal human need and that it is understood as an analogy of the play situation of children.

A experiência materna na clínica da obesidade infantil: estudo psicanalítico / The maternal experience in the clinical treatment of childhood obesity: a psychoanalytic study

A presente pesquisa objetiva investigar psicanaliticamente a experiência emocional de mães de crianças com diagnóstico de obesidade, justificando-se na medida em que o tratamento da condição, que inclui atenção psicológica, implica importante participação materna. O trabalho se organiza como estudo de caso da mãe de uma criança obesa em atendimento. O material clínico apresentado corresponde a duas narrativas transferenciais, relativas à história de vida e à entrevista individual da participante, que inclui suas manifestações produzidas em resposta ao Procedimento de Desenhos-Estórias com Tema. A consideração psicanalítica desse material permitiu a produção interpretativa de dois campos de sentido afetivo emocional: Sou mãe de um menino, logo existo e Minha mãe me ama, logo existo que apontam para dificuldades básicas e para movimentos de busca de constituição de si mesma como pessoa significativa para si e para o outro. Fica assim demonstrado que a experiência emocional materna, no caso estudado, está fortemente marcada por dificuldades subjetivas básicas, ligadas a processos de constituição de self, o que provavelmente afeta o cuidado psicológico do filho. Tal achado indica que é possível que a obesidade infantil seja expressão sintomática de complexas configurações familiares, de caráter transgeracional / The present study aims to psychoanalytically investigate the emotional experience of obesity diagnosis children´s mothers, justifying on the extent that the treatment of the condition, which includes psychological attention, implies important maternal participation. It is thus demonstrated that the maternal emotional experience, in the studied case, is strongly measured by basic subjective difficulties, linked to the constitution processes of self, which probably affects the psychological child´s care. Such discovery indicates it is possible that the childhood obesity is a symptomatic expression of family complex configuration, from a transgenerational nature

Este estudo retrata o adolescer de Guibert de Nogent, monge da região de Beauvais, norte da França, que viveu entre 1055-1125, aproximadamente. Utiliza-se de um método histórico-psicanalítico com o objetivo de tentar analisar o texto autobiográfico e o contexto vivido por Guibert, durante sua infância e a transição para a vida adulta. Toma-se como pontos de referência para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho, o conhecimento adquirido pela psicanálise contemporânea sobre o processo adolescente e o contexto histórico da Idade Média, séculos XI-XII. Tendo por base a metapsicologia psicanalítica proveniente de Freud, e de alguns dos seus seguidores, e os conhecimentos da história social, oriundos de Bloch, Vernant e outros, procura-se compreender os aspectos inconscientes e as interferências recíprocas entre sujeito psíquico e cultura. Estuda-se as condições de nascimento e de desenvolvimento, o processo educacional, a entrada na puberdade, a crise e a elaboração do processo adolescente até a vida adulta, dos quais se pode extrair os conteúdos componentes das estruturas e dinâmicas existentes entre as pulsões, o ego e o superego. Analisa-se as interações entre o desenvolvimento do sujeito psíquico e as incorporações provenientes das características do meio familiar, social, afetivo, religioso, cultural, preconizadas e exercidas pelo domínio da Igreja dentro do regime clérico-feudal. Parte-se do estudo particular de um caso para se propor algumas considerações gerais sobre o adolescer na Idade Média. Evidencia-se dois objetivos principais nesta investigação histórico-psicanalítica. O primeiro, tentar definir a existência da adolescência como fenômeno intrínseco do desenvolvimento humano e seus conflitos, durante a construção da identidade adulta e em relação à cultura. O segundo, tentar criar uma metodologia através da interface histórico-psicanalítica, capaz de contribuir para a compreensão da construção do sujeito psíquico em suas relações com os fatos e processos históricos, e que levam em consideração o individual e o coletivo, o psicofísico e o ambiental, o texto e o contexto, o homem e sua cultura. / This study analyses the becoming adolescent of Guibert de Nogent, monk from the Beauvais region, north of France, who lived around 1055-1125. A historic-psychoanalytic method was used, having in mind the analysis of the autobiographic text and the context within which Guibert lived his childhood and his transition to adulthood. The up to date psychoanalytic knowledge about the process towards adolescence and the historic context in the Middle Ages, centuries XI-XII, are the reference points adopted for the development of the present work. The basis for understanding the unconscious aspects and the reciprocal interference between the psychic subject and the culture is the psychoanalytic metapsychology originated with Freud and some of his followers, and from the social history by Bloch, Vernant and others. It is possible to extract the contents from the dynamic structures components which exist between the drives, the ego and the superego by analyzing the conditions of birth, the development, the educational process, the entering into puberty, the crisis and the development of the adolescence process until the adult life. The interactions between the psychic subject and the influences originated from the characteristics of the family, social, affective, religious and cultural environment, imposed and executed by the dominance of the Church within a clerical-feudal regime are analyzed. The study of this one case leads to general considerations about the adolescence process during the Middle Ages. Two main objectives come out from this historic-psychoanalytic research. The first aims at the definition of the existence of the adolescence as intrinsic phenomenon of the human development and its conflicts along the construction of the adult identity and in relation to the culture. The second intents the presentation of a new methodology by means of the historic-psychoanalytic interface, able to contribute to the understanding of the building up process of the psychic subject in relation to the facts and the historic processes, which takes into consideration the individual and the collective, the psychophysic and the environment, the text and the context, the man and his culture.

The proposition is that is it possible for the analyst to listen to the patient and to be permitted to use sensibility as part of the technical heritage, without taking refuge in a previous theoretical framework to orient his or her listening. The Wounded Centaur serves the text as key-metaphor in this relationship, given that, according to this ancestral myth, the very disciple that had wounded Quiron/analyst (by imploding the supposed knowledge), is also the one who facilitated the cure (providing the insight that untangles the setting). Chapter I presents by means of a paradigmatic case-analysis situations that lead to the questioning of some common places of psychoanalytic theory. Chapter II introduces, in the light of the Multiple Fields Theory, the principal concepts with which to confront the impasses of clinical practice. Chapter III shows these concepts in action in the referred case-analysis, to reach a conclusion pertaining to the interaction between analyst (wounded healer) and patient (disciple that wounds). This essay is structured as qualitative research and organized around the use of the psychoanalytical method. The investigated material is composed by ten posts available in personal blogs, signed by people who identify themselves as mothers. The consideration of these posts in a floating attention state allowed us the interpretative production of two affective-emotional fields: "Dedicating exclusively" and "Reconciling activities". The overall frame suggests that the connection between Maternity and Suffering is closely related to contemporaneity, which requires that the women continue experiencing motherhood as if it were her only mission and destiny and try to engage it with working life, trying to contribute to the financial aspects for the family support and / or also developing a meaningful career. Therefore, this is a situation that happens in different social classes within different cultural contexts also geopolitical situations and that affects not only women but the hole society. / A presente pesquisa objetiva investigar a experi?ncia de ser m?e, justificando-se por meio de uma perspectiva segundo a qual a maternidade pode ser considerada, na contemporaneidade, como sofrimento social. O trabalho se articula como pesquisa qualitativa, organizada ao redor do uso do m?todo psicanal?tico. O material investigado ? composto por um conjunto de dez postagens disponibilizadas em blogs pessoais, assinadas por pessoas que se identificam como m?es. Sua considera??o, em estado de aten??o flutuante, permitiu a produ??o interpretativa de dois campos de sentido afetivo-emocional ?Dedicando-se exclusivamente? e ?Conciliando atitidades?. O quadro geral sugere que a vincula??o entre maternidade e sofrimento est? intimamente ligada ? contemporaneidade, que exige que a mulher persista vivenciando a maternidade como se fosse sua ?nica miss?o e destino e se engaje na vida laboral, encarregando-se de contribuir financeiramente para o sustento familiar e/ou desenvolvendo uma carreira profissional significativa. The second intents the presentation of a new methodology by means of the historic-psychoanalytic interface, able to contribute to the understanding of the building up process of the psychic subject in relation to the facts and the historic processes, which takes into consideration the individual and the collective, the psychophysic and the environment, the text and the context, the man and his culture.

Atendimento Psicanalítico Conjunto Pais-Crianças: uma proposta de intervenção na primeira infância

This research aims to investigate the boundaries of the psychoanalytic field that sustains the ambulatory mental health service in childhood, named Early Childhood Psychoanalysis: conjunct parents-child interventions , having the principal theoretical and clinical articulators, which are the psychoanalytic method, the transference and the metapsychological formulation of the subjective constitution. We have accomplished a hermeneutics research and through this investigative approach we looked for questions that enabled us to create and articulate new significances throughout the exercise of signifying the vivid experience, investigating the clinical processes and seeking supports for this practice. So, we outlined our route through the theoretical research, the conceptions of the process of subjective constitution of a child, language and symptom. Through the methodology research, we present the method of conjunct attendance and discuss the possibility of the psychoanalytic method being the support for the conjunct attendance, and also, the issue of the meaning and representation of infantile clinical psychoanalytic. The analytical research of this clinical model brought the issue of the transference, its impasses and characteristics of the clinic in the early childhood, and also, the discussion about the communication processes in the conjunct attendance setting. Finally, through the Clinical Research, two cases were analyzed. As a result of this trajectory we realized considerations on the naming this model of care, suggesting the switch to Psychoanalytic Attendance Parent-Child. / Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal investigar os balizadores do campo psicanalítico que sustentam o serviço ambulatorial em saúde mental infantil Psicanálise da primeira infância: intervenções conjuntas pais-crianças . Os principais articuladores teóricoclínicos foram: o Método Psicanalítico, a Transferência e a formulação Metapsicológica da Constituição Subjetiva. Tratou-se de uma pesquisa hermenêutica, que, por meio da postura investigativa da pesquisadora, buscou-se elaborar questionamentos que possibilitassem o exercício de criação e articulação de novos sentidos a partir da experiência vivida neste modelo de Atendimento Conjunto. Desta forma, o percurso desenvolvido deu-se através da Investigação Teórica, Metodológica, Clínica e do Campo Analítico. O capítulo II aborda as concepções do processo de constituição subjetiva, de criança, linguagem e sintoma. A Investigação Metodológica, com a questão sobre a possibilidade do Método Psicanalítico ser a sustentação dos Atendimentos Conjuntos, é discutida no capítulo III. O conceito de transferência e suas especificidades na clínica da primeira infância e os processos da comunicação nos Atendimentos Conjuntos são abordados no capítulo sobre a Investigação do Campo Analítico. Por fim, a análise de dois casos clínicos ilustra a Investigação Clínica. Como resultado desta trajetória, realizamos a sugestão da troca do nome para Atendimento Psicanalítico Conjunto Pais-Crianças, sustentando esta prática no Campo da Psicanálise. / Mestre em Psicologia Aplicada
