The psycho-educational value of friendship amongst adolescents

Burton, Colleen Marcelle 12 1900 (has links)
The focus of this dissertation revolved around the phenomenon of friendship, specifically amongst adolescents. Friendship is a universal phenomenon, that occurs in every race, culture and religion. Within friendship there are some universal aspects that were investigated. The research attempted to understand the phenomenon of friendship amongst the developmental phase of the adolescent. Furthermore, the effect of friendship on the adolescent’s general psychological functioning had been investigated. The research came to the conclusion that friendship does have a positive influence on an adolescent’s general psychological functioning but that some psychological factors, such as communication skills, social skills and self confidence need to be developed to a certain extent in order for friendship to have a positive influence on the adolescent’s psychological functioning. If these psychological factors are however not in place, friendship may to a certain extent highlight an adolescent’s weaknesses and reinforce his/her social inadequacy, inferiority, lack of self confidence and negative self talk. / Psychology of Education / M. Fiziškai aktyvių ir fiziškai neaktyvių 16 – 18 metų moksleivių psichologinio funkcionavimo sunkumų raiška rudens ir pavasario laikotarpiais / Expression of psychological functioning difficulties for physically active and physically inactive 16-18-year-old adolescents in the periods of autumn and spring

Kairytė, Justina 10 September 2013 (has links)
2. Įvertinti sezoniškumo poveikį 16 – 18 metų amžiaus paauglių fiziniam aktyvumui ir patiriamų psichologinio funkcionavimo sunkumų raiškai. 3. Nustatyti 16 – 18 metų moksleivių psichologinio funkcionavimo sunkumų raišką... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Research object was the expression of psychological functioning difficulties for physically active and physically inactive 16-18-year-old adolescents in the periods of autumn and spring. Research problem involved the lack of research analysing problems associated with schoolchildren’s adjustment, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and occurrence of maladaptive behaviour. It must be admitted that many of the studies are episodic and of fragmentary character. There is a lack of research examining the causes of psychological difficulties (internal - related to emotions and external - connected with the environment, family and school). Studies analysing the effects of seasonality on the manifestations of diseases and changes in psycho-emotional conditions often include the contingent of elderly people, but there is a lack of such studies that are subject to young people. Research hypothesis: schoolchildren encounter more psychological functioning difficulties in autumn than in spring. Research aim was to establish the expression of psychological functioning difficulties for physically active and physically inactive 16-18-year-old schoolchildren in the periods of autumn and spring. Research objectives: 1. Assess the effect of seasonality on the physical activity of 16–18 –year–old adolescents and the expression of the encountered psychological functioning difficulties. 2. Establish the physical activity and the expression of psychological functioning difficulties for 16–18... [to full text]

Dance/movement therapy and the psychosocial well-being of learners with visual impairment : a case study

Botha, Michelle 11 1900 (has links)
This transformative mixed method case study investigated the influence of Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) as a physical activity on the psychosocial well-being of learners with the visual impairment of low vision in a school for the visually impaired in Gauteng. A study of existing literature indicated a series of psychological and social dynamics which shape a person with low vision’s self-esteem and subsequent psychosocial well-being. A DMT intervention programme was designed accordingly. Through a filtering process, six female, adolescent participants with possible self-esteem challenges were identified. These participants completed the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) prior to taking part in the eight 60 minute sessions of the DMT intervention programme. The RSES was completed again post-intervention. Results indicated an increase in the self-esteem levels of all six participants to various degrees. Qualitative measures, including observations schedules, process notes in a researcher’s diary and participant reflections in DMT Journey Journals supported quantitative findings. / Mokgwa o, o o tswakantseng was diphetogo wa dithuto o batlisitse thotloetso ya Motantsho/ Motsamao wa pholo jaaka ikatiso ya mmele mo go itekanelong/ boitekanelong jwa tlhaloganyo ya barutwana ba ba sa boneng sentle mo sekolong sa bana ba ba sa boneng mo kgaolong/ porofinsi ya Gauteng. / Psychology of Education / M.
