Athari za mabadiliko ya mitaala ya Kiswahili katika uandishi na uchapishaji

The present article attempts to analyse the effects of Kiswahili curricula changes in Kenya on Kiswahili authorship and publishing since 1963. The bottomline of the argument is that any changes on the educational curriculum affecting Kiswahili has a corresponding effect on the way Kiswahili authors and publishers behave. The analysis is divided into several periods marked with the various commissions appointed by the government to investigate and make recommendations on education. Based on the foregoing, the paper shows how the authors and ublishers are compelled to adjust their attitude towards Kiswahili in order to keep abreast with the ever-changing millieu – at one time they cherish Kiswahili while discounting it at another. Finally, it is argued that at present there is a lot of good will towards Kiswahili. This can be enhanced if special incentives such as awarding higher entry salaries to applicants for jobs in the civil service who can fluently express themselves in Kiswahili.

His "circle" included the most famous radical authors, such as Thomas Paine, and the most famous English poets, such as W. Wordsworth. The author comes to the conclusion about the influence of the publisher's activities on the formation and development of radical ideas in Britain at the end of the XVIII century.

[pt] Esta dissertação relata uma proposta de identificação e descrição das configurações existentes nos recursos e técnicas empregados na engenharia do papel, enquanto dispositivos narrativos e ilustrativos na construção do livro móvel. O objetivo foi demonstrar as relações de coerência e coesão entre os textos verbais e não verbais aplicados ao livro pop-up. O livro pop-up (livro móvel) permeia e cativa o universo infantojuvenil com suas peculiaridades e multiformas. Os mecanismos da engenharia do papel tornam-se cada vez mais arrojados no intuito de atrair e expandir os potenciais sensoriais e sinestésicos que estimulam a imaginação e intensificam a interação do leitor com a leitura. Como metodolologia foram desenvolvidos estudos sobre as funções da linguagem, sobre coerência e coesão que se estabelecem no design de um livro pop-up. Vinte mil léguas submarinas, de Sam Ita, editado em 2010 pela Publifolha serviu como caso exemplar. Com o entendimento das relações entre o textos literário, ilustrativo e escultórico, foi possível concluir que, aproveitando as magnitudes das esculturas de papel, as bases ilustradas das páginas e os elementos dinâmicos das histórias em quadrinhos para encaminhar a narrativa, possibilitaram que as distintas linguagens se tornam complementares. Dessa forma, os estudos sobre a linguagem verbal e linguagem não verbal são igualmente importantes, visto que a maioria de escritores, designers e engenheiros do papel têm a mesma intenção, colaborar e agregar valor ao livro, seja ele pop-up, picture book, livro brinquedo ou qualquer outra ramificação do livro ilustrado. Na adaptação de Sam Ita a soberania dos pop-ups e a dinâmica criativa dos quadrinhos, aguçam o imaginário e, principalmente, os sentidos sensórios e sinestésicos do leitor. / [en] This dissertation reports a proposal of identification and description of the existing configurations in the resources and techniques used in paper engineering, as narrative and illustrative devices in the construction of the mobile book. The objective was to demonstrate the relations of coherence and cohesion between verbal and non-verbal texts applied to the pop-up book. The pop-up book (mobile book) permeates and captivates the universe of children and youth with their peculiarities and multiforms. The mechanisms of paper engineering become increasingly bold in order to attract and expand the sensory and synesthetic potentials that stimulate the imagination and intensify the reader s interaction with reading. As methodology, studies were developed on the functions of language, on coherence and cohesion that are established in the design of a pop-up book. Twenty thousand leagues underwater, from Sam Ita, published in 2010 by Publifolha served as an exemplary case. With the understanding of the relations between the literary, illustrative and sculptural texts, it was possible to conclude that, taking advantage of the magnitudes of the paper sculptures, the illustrated bases of the pages and the dynamic elements of the comics to guide the narrative, enabled the different languages become complementary. Thus, studies on verbal language and non-verbal language are equally important, since most writers, designers, and paper engineers have the same intention, to collaborate and add value to the book, be it pop-up, picture book, book toy or any other branch of the picture book. In Sam Ita s adaptation of the sovereignty of pop-ups and the creative dynamics of comics, they sharpen the imagination and especially the sensory and synesthetic senses of the reader.

Die Präsentation zeigt das Leistungsspektrum und gibt Auskunft über den Peer Review-Prozess. Seit 2015 hat die Universitätsbibliothek eine Institutionelle Vereinbarung mit dem MDPI geschlossen. Der Publikationsworkflow ist für Wissenschaffende einfach und transparent. / In the context of the International Open Access Week 2016, the event "Open in Action at TU Chemnitz" was held on 26 October 2016. The lecture of the MDPI – the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute – presents the past and current activities of the open access publisher and the author benefits. This diploma thesis presents compiled and edited collection of letters from the czech landscape painter František Kaván (1866-1941), a scholar of Julius Mařák's painting school, to the publisher and gallerist František Topič (1858-1941), the painter Oldřich Blažíček (1887-1953) and the librarian and bibliographer Ladislav Jan Živný (1872-1949). The edition is based on 104 letters kept in the Museum of Czech Literature in Prague and the Archives of the National Gallery in Prague. The correspondence describes a life of the painter from the year 1894 to 1941. The diploma thesis analyses and comments approachable literature and deals with relevant sources of material. Editorial comment summarizes principles and methods applied in this thesis, one part is dedicated to the editor Svatopluk Klír. The main parts are chapters based on commentary of selected passages of 104 edited documents with further relevant information in the apparatus. Fulltext edition of mentioned documents is a part of the appendix. A part of the thesis are indices and list of sources and literature. The main aim of this thesis are two Czech nationwide daily newspapers Hospodářské noviny and Mladá fronta Dnes. This thesis focuses on graphics relaunches which these newspapers passed in years 2009 and 2010. It deals with question, how the graphics changes influenced appearance of these newspapers, their content and the position on the media market. This composition responsibly took the opportunity to show the reader in detail, how these newspapers have changed the look of the headlines, elaboration of photos, colors and other graphics components. Along with it the thesis analyses the content changes, such as stylistics or the way of submitting information. Last but not least it gives the comparison of the earning power of these newspapers, position of their publishers Economia and Mafra as well as interviews with publishers representatives.

Internet advertising and its range is viewed from a marketing perspective and in the context of media studies. Together with online advertising history, diploma thesis represents the development of the internet market and in this context it is pointed at reach of online advertising industry. Readers are acquainted with basic types of online advertisements, payment models and online advertising buying ways. Thesis in detail deals with modern trends such as programmatic buying of online advertising, behavioral targeting, retargeting, and many others that are examined from the perspective of advertisers, online content publishers and users whose privacy is from some perspective disrupted by these trends. A construção da identidade das editoras pelas 1ªs capas: Record e Cosac Naify

Our proposition searched to recognize the common and distinctive procedures used specifically on its first front covers. Considering the great number of publishers present in the Brazilian market we have chosen an initial clipping, which caused the selection of two among the seven biggest publishers in expansion. It refers to Record, considered the oldest and Cosac Naify, the newest. In a second moment, we considered these two publishers actuation during 2007, and we selected for analysis the fiction segment according to the ranking of the five best sellers. From a corpus of five fiction front covers, we elected randomly three first front cover a for each publisher as a sample of its suitable operation. In this investigation the first front cover is taken not only as a package but also as both the book and the publisher identitary face. For the designers that create it, it is developed and treated like an advertisement which sells products based on the first contact between the book and the consumer. Calling into question this kind of interaction as meaning production and publishers identity construction, we examine what is the articulation among verbal, visual and spacial systems expression function in the first front cover, and how these kind of articulation edify the identity´s expression. Approaching the distinctive kinds of visibility that the two publishers sincretic articulation create on its first front covers we conclude that, beyond the strategy of an enunciator/publisher that makes the enunciatary/reader makes sense of the book, it also infers that the publishers use the making feel thought through a combination of sensitive attributes of the first front cover constituent elements as a whole sense. These two designator s ways of doing have been approached in the E. Landowski sociossemiotic as two kinds of interaction: manipulation and adjustment. The discursive semiotic and its model of meaning analysis based on content plane developed around A.J.Greimas, as well as the visual semiotic with the contributions of J.M. Floch based the procedures of description and analysis of the visual texts. For the sensible and intelligible experiences that these texts produce, our approach founded its basis in E. Landowski to develop them as persuasive strategies and as lived experiences, both occurring in distincts kinds of interaction between communication actants. In the first case, processing the ready made signification of the front cover. In the second one, processing the meaning in act. These two interactive procedures led us also to conclude about the two kinds of specification that define the readers, which oriented us to understand the publishers identity construction. Alongside A. C. de Oliveira we concluded that, besides the content plane arrangement, the expressive articulation procedures adopted by the publishers are also the basis of the two distinctive procedures of identity construction: by quantity and by qualification / Esta pesquisa objetiva estudar a construção da identidade das editoras brasileiras a partir de suas capas de livros. Nossa proposta buscou reconhecer os procedimentos comuns e os distintivos utilizados especificamente nas 1ªs capas. Diante da grande quantidade de editoras presentes no mercado, optamos por um primeiro recorte, do qual selecionamos duas dentre as sete maiores editoras em expansão. Trata-se da Record, considerada a mais antiga, e da Cosac Naify, a mais recente. Num segundo momento, levamos em conta a atuação dessas duas editoras no ano de 2007, selecionando para análise o segmento de ficção de acordo com o ranking dos cinco títulos mais vendidos. Do corpus de cinco capas de ficção, elegemos aleatoriamente três 1ªs capas de cada editora como uma amostragem pertinente do seu fazer. A 1ª capa é tomada nessa investigação não só como a embalagem do miolo, mas também como a face identitária tanto do livro quanto da editora. Para os designers que a concebem, ela é desenvolvida e tratada à maneira de um anúncio publicitário para a venda do produto a partir do primeiro contato entre o livro e o consumidor. Problematizando esse tipo de interação, como produção da significação e da construção da identidade editorial, examinamos qual o papel da articulação entre os sistemas da expressão verbal, visual e espacial da 1ª capa, e como esses tipos de articulação edificam a expressão da identidade. Abordando os distintos modos de visibilidade que a articulação sincrética das duas editoras criam nas 1ªs capas, chegamos que, além de uma estratégia do enunciador/editora para fazer o enunciatário/leitor fazer o sentido do livro, depreende-se, ainda, que as editoras empregam um fazer sentir por meio de um arranjo das qualidades sensíveis dos elementos constituintes da 1ª capa como um todo de sentido. Esses dois modos de fazer do destinador, a sociossemiótica de E. Landowski postula como dois modos de interação, a saber: manipulação e ajustamento. A semiótica discursiva e o seu modelo de análise da significação pelo plano do conteúdo desenvolvida em torno de A. J. Greimas, assim, como a semiótica visual com as contribuições de J.-M. Floch embasaram os procedimentos de descrição e análise dos textos visuais. Enquanto experiências sensíveis e inteligíveis que esses textos produzem, nossa abordagem encontrou fundamentamos em E. Landowski para desenvolvê-las tanto enquanto estratégias de persuasão quanto experiências vividas que se processam ambas nos distintos tipos de interação entre os sujeitos da comunicação. No primeiro caso, no processar da significação já pronta na capa, no segundo, no processar do sentido em ato. Esses dois procedimentos interativos nos levaram a concluir também os dois tipos de especificidade definidores dos leitores, que nos orientou na depreensão da construção da identidade das editoras. Concluímos como A.C. de Oliveira que, ao lado do arranjo do plano do conteúdo, são também os procedimentos de articulação expressiva, selecionados pelas editoras, os sustentáculos de dois distintos procedimentos de construção identitária: por quantidade e por qualificação

Resource Allocation Algorithms for Event-Based Enterprise Systems

Distributed event processing systems suffer from poor scalability and inefficient resource usage caused by load distributions typical in real-world applications. The results of these shortcomings are availability issues, poor system performance, and high operating costs. This thesis proposes three remedies to solve these limitations in content-based publish/subscribe, which is a practical realization of an event processing system. First, we present a load balancing algorithm that relocates subscribers to distribute load and avoid overloads. Second, we propose publisher relocation algorithms that reduces both the load imposed onto brokers and delivery delay experienced by subscribers. Third, we present ``green" resource allocation algorithms that allocate as few brokers as possible while maximizing their resource usage efficiency by reconfiguring the publishers, subscribers, and the broker topology. We implemented and evaluated all of our approaches on an open source content-based publish/subscribe system called PADRES and evaluated them on SciNet, PlanetLab, a cluster testbed, and in simulations to prove the effectiveness of our solutions. Our evaluation findings are summarized as follows. One, the proposed load balancing algorithm is effective in distributing and balancing load originating from a single server to all available servers in the network. Two, our publisher relocation algorithm reduces the average input load of the system by up to 68%, average broker message rate by up to 85%, and average delivery delay by up to 68%. Three, our resource allocation algorithm reduces the average broker message rate even further by up to 92% and the number of allocated brokers by up to 91%.
