The gold women with many identities : A qualitative study of the Swedish tabloids representation of the Olympic games in Pyeongchang 2018.

Viklund, Klara, Åkerman, Sarah January 2019 (has links)
The motive of our study was to examine the differences and the similarities between how tabloids write about male versus female cross-country skiing participants. The main focus was to examine their adversities and successes at the Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018. The study had two main questions to analyze this: “How does Swedish tabloids report about the female and male cross-country skiing teams at the Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018?” and “How do Swedish tabloids report about the setbacks and successes regarding the Swedish cross-country skiing teams at the Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018?”. The result of our discourse analysis showed us that the tabloids present the female national team’s performance differently to how they present the male national team's performance. We made a discourse analysis of nine different articles from the Swedish tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen. The tabloids write about the female national team’s performances and successes and they balance it by also writing about their setbacks. The reasoning we found as to why the tabloids writes about female athletes more in-depthly than the men is because there is a larger demand for it, owing to their huge success in the Olympics. In contrary, the articles about the male national team, the tabloids write about their setbacks without questioning underlying factors or previous training that could be the basis of their failures. The tabloids also choose to publish articles with more private themes when it comes to the female athletes. This does not occur in the articles about the male cross country national team. In the articles about the men, the tabloids choose not to include personal facts of any kind, all analysed articles deal instead with performance or setback related types of themes.

The effect of sports diplomacy on inter-Korean relations

Nymark, Marianne Kristine January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to explain how sports events, in which North and South Korea have in some way worked or competed together, have affected the relationship between the two nations. This is carried out through the investigation of specific events; the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics, the competing of the joint table tennis- and football teams in 1991, the cooperation happening during the “sunshine policy”, from 1998 until 2008, as well as the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The studied material consists mostly of news reports and scientific works.   The result shows that while cooperation in sports is possible between the two Koreas, they have occurred only under favourable political circumstances. It is also concluded that the sports events have in return affected the inter-Korean relationship, and this cooperation has also generated further discussions between the two Koreas, a so called “spillover effect”.

: A content analysis of Discovery Swedens coverage of the olympic Games 2018, in a gender perspective, with focus on the ice hockey-tournaments

Asp, Marcus, Karlsson, Måns Karlsson January 2018 (has links)
I World Economic Forums årliga världsranking återfanns Sverige på plats nummer fem i jämställdhetsfrågan. Detta med mål av att granska hur den rådande diskur / Sweden was in World Economic Forums yearly world ranking found as fifth in terms of equality between the genders. This makes it clear and legitimate to say that Sweden is a country, that undeniably prioritizes the topic very highly. But it is also clear that the progress in terms of equality is developing very slowly and that political visions do not have all the power over the the movement. This assignment will illustrate the equality between men and women in the olympic games of Pyongchang 2018 with a focus on ice hockey. Ice hockey, a sport that is dominated by men, will with a high probability illustrate the diffrences between the genders. Not only the diffrences in terms of economic conditions, but also in terms of medial coverage. The vision for this assignment is therefore to illusrate the current discourse within Ice hockey and to create a better understand of the things that needs to be done, in order to create a more equal arena.

Ochrana olympijských symbolik ve vztahu k médiím / Protection of Olympic symbols in relation to the media

Běhounková, Pavlína January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis Protection of Olympic Symbols in Relation to the Media shows how the Czech Olympic Committee monitors the use of Olympic Symbols and how the law that protects Olympic symbols is approached by the Czech media. The main goal of this diploma thesis is to bring a professional insight into this issue, to summarize the legal norms and other accompanying rules of the International Olympic Committee and Czech Olympic Committee and to show specific examples of violations by the Czech media in informing about the Olympic Games. The diploma thesis also uncovers why specific errors in the media occur, how media deal with the protection of the Olympic symbols in the media, and how media ensure the abidance of the law within the internal structures. An integral part of this thesis is a general summary of all the rules, examples of the errors and a summary of both the media and the Czech Olympic Committee perspectives on the issue.
