Détermination du niveau d'émission harmonique d'une installation raccordée au réseau de distribution / Determination of harmonic emission level of an installation connected to the distribution networkDenoel, Julien 18 November 2016 (has links)
In order to maintain good power quality, Distribution Systems Operators (DSOs) must keep harmonic voltage levels under limits specified in standards. These harmonic voltages result from non-linear equipment connected in installations, which inject harmonic currents into networks.A possible solution to solve this problem consists to implement emission limits per installation. In order to apply these limits, DSOs need to have an accurate and reliable indicator to assess the harmonic emission of an installation. In this context, we studied different methods from the literature. We implemented each of them on several simplified distribution networks in order to evaluate them on several criteria. First, we identified the most interesting definitions from the literature, and emphasized their respective theorical limits. Then, we improved one of these definitions by proposing a new solution: the “four-quadrants” definition. This new definition is able to assess the harmonic current injected by an installation into the network by using current and voltage measurements at the point of common coupling of this installation. Its main advantage in comparison to other methods is a better detection of “medium” disturbing installations over the network. This advantage has been confirmed by implementing the proposed solution in simulation on a distribution network derived from the CIGRE benchmark.

Providing Written Formative Feedback for the Diverse Classroom : A case study of a Swedish lower-secondary EFL classroomCarter, Bianca January 2022 (has links)
The study, designed as a case study, aimed to explore an EFL teacher’s process of producing individualised written formative feedback to further the English language development of the diverse student body of one eighth-grade class in southern Sweden. The research questions were approached from a teacher’s perspective. (1) What are the characteristics of written formative feedback on the written performance of individual students in a diverse ELT classroom? (2) How does the teacher reason when adapting formative written feedback to the needs of individual students? The Quadrant model, applying aspects of sociocultural theory, helped interpret the data collected from the think-aloud protocol, follow-up interview, and the written feedback provided to the students. Two main characteristics were identified for the teacher’s written feedback comment. First, the teacher aspired to provide feedback within each student’s engagement zone, which was also found to be a vital part of the teacher’s reasoning when adapting his feedback to students. Secondly, the written comment consisted mainly of motivating and explanatory comments to encourage further development, which also mirrored the teacher’s reasoning when adapting feedback to each student’s needs. The reasoning reflected the teacher’s aspiration of balancing the amount of support and challenge each student needed to support their development within their Zone of Proximal Development.

Wake flow field of a wall-mounted pipe with spoiler on a rough channel bedDevi, K., Mishra, S., Hanmaiahgari, P.R., Pu, Jaan H. 13 February 2023 (has links)
Yes / This research work focuses on the wake flow region of a cylinder with a spoiler on a rough bed under steady flow conditions. The acoustic Doppler velocimetry was used for the measurement of three-dimensional velocity data for two Reynolds numbers in a fully developed turbulent flow around the cylinder with a spoiler. The mean flow velocities, second-order turbulence structures, and conditional statistics were investigated in the wake region of the spoilered cylinder. The flow was separated from the spoiler with the formation of two shear layers between free surface flow and recirculating flow. It is observed that the flow is reattaching to the bed at 11D irrespective of the Reynolds number. Downstream of the cylinder, the mean velocity distributions are asymmetric due to the wall–wake effect, and the point of inflection is observed for each velocity profile at z = 0.40ẟ. The turbulence intensities, Reynolds stresses, and TKE are highly enhanced in the wake region of the cylinder as compared to their respective upstream values for both runs. The turbulence intensities, Reynolds normal stresses, Reynolds shear stresses, and turbulent kinetic energy are attaining peaks at z = 0.4 ẟ for all the streamwise locations, and the peaks are found to be highest at x = 10D. The quadrant analysis results indicate that the sweeps are dominating bursting events in the inner and intermediate layers, while ejections are dominating in the outer layer of the wake region. As the hole size, H increases ejections stress fraction rises as compared to that of the sweeps in the wake region for z = 0.2–0.7 h.

Design and Implementation of Four-quadrant Operation in Single-Switch Based Switched Reluctance Motor Drive SystemPark, Sung Yeul 27 July 2004 (has links)
In step with development of advanced, cost effective semiconductors and electrical motor drive components, the Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) has become the center of public attention. Interest in a single-phase SRM has arisen in many places, especially because of its low cost applications. However, some drawbacks have plagued single-phase SRM: the lack of self-starting capability and restricted operation conditions.
This thesis presents a four-quadrant operation SRM drive system with a single controllable switch for two phase configuration. The SRM's configuration has four main stator poles, four rotor poles, and four auxiliary stator poles. Because of this special arrangement, a four-quadrant operation with a given power converter topology and proposed control algorithms has been realized. The focus of the paper is to realize a four-quadrant operation with a single-switch converter based SRM. In addition, this research resulted in a new self-starting scheme without adding permanent magnets. Simulation results and experimental results utilizing the control algorithm verify the performance of the system. / Master of Science

Bursting phenomenon created by bridge piers group in open channel flowIkani, N., Pu, Jaan H., Taha, T., Hanmaiahgari, P.R., Penna, N. 13 February 2023 (has links)
Yes / Bridge pier is a common feature in hydraulic structure. Its impact to the river usually occurs in group form rather than single pier, so this challenging piers-group influence towards river hydraulics and turbulence needs to be explored. In this paper, the measurements were conducted using an Acoustic doppler velocimeter (ADV) to study velocities in three dimensions (longitudinal, transversal, and vertical). Based on the experimental data, we have observed reversed depth-averaged velocity vector after each pier in the group of three-pier. The analysis has been conducted on the contribution of each bursting event to Reynolds shear stress (RSS) generation, in order to identify the critical events and turbulence structures around the piers. In the upstream near-wake flow in the bed-wall layer, strong sweep and ejection events have been observed; while at downstream, sweeps were more dominant. The pattern of burst changed in the outer layer of flow, where ejections were more dominant. Furthermore, the contribution fractional ratio to RSS variation at hole size H = 0 indicates that sweeps and ejections were significantly generated at the near wake-flow in upstream.

In this work, a design and implementation of a synthesizer of orthogonal signals using CMOS technology and design technique for integrated circuits is proposed. The synthesizer circuit used analog multipliers and integrators for produce orthogonal functions such as Legendre polynomials, cosine and sine basis of functions, smoothed-cosine basis and Hermite polynomials. Orthogonal functions can be employed in signal processing and the implementation proposed can generate several kinds of functions in the same integrated circuit. In the synthesizer design building blocks was employed. The synthesizer’s blocks were design using differential circuits, low-voltage and current-mode techniques. Some topologies from papers were adapted or modified, as in the case of the current multiplier. Other topologies had to be proposed. The simulation and experimental results have shown that the synthesizer is able to produce orthogonal functions with satisfactory quality in distortions and amplitude. The synthesizer has a 3V supply voltage, a input current range of ±20 μA and it presents less than 4% of THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) in the last output in cascade.
