The exploration of neurophysiological spike train data using visual analytics

Somerville, Jared January 2011 (has links)
Neuroscientists are increasingly overwhelmed by new recordings of the nervous system. These recordings are significantly increasing in size due to new electrophysiological techniques, such as multi-electrode arrays. These techniques can simultaneously record the electrical activity (or spike trains) from thousands of neurons. These new datasets are larger than the traditional datasets recorded from single electrodes where fewer than ten spike trains are usually recorded. Consequently, new tools are now required to effectively analyse these new datasets. This thesis describes how techniques from the field of Visual Analytics can be applied to detect specific patterns in spike train data. These techniques are realised in a software tool called Neurigma. Neurigma is a collection of visual representations of spike train data that are unified to provide a coordinated representation of the data. The visual representations within Neurigma include: an interactive raster plot, an improved correlation grid, a novel representation called the correlation plot (which includes a novel coupling estimation algorithm), and a novel network diagram. These views provide insight into spike train data, and particularly, they identify correlated patterns, called functional connectivity. Within this thesis Neurigma is used to analyse synthetically generated datasets and experimental recordings. Three main findings are presented. First, propagating spiral patterns are identified within recordings from the neonatal mouse retina. Second, functional connectivity is identified within the cat visual cortex. Finally, the functional connectivity of a large synthetic dataset, of 1000 spike trains, is accurately classified into direct, indirect and common input coupling.

Haftkräfte zwischen technisch rauen Oberflächen

Fritzsche, Jörg 02 March 2017 (has links) (PDF)

Map Engine with Route and Slope Prediction for Autonomous Vehicles in Offroad Applications

Stigenius, Erik January 2017 (has links)
With an imminent future of fully autonomous heavy duty vehicles in offroad applications, the need for advanced control system will increase accordingly. By implementing a raster map with tiles and pixels, to which a vehicle can record slope and position data while driving, it is possible to map earth's surface. By adding a heat parameter to every pixel, i.e. the number of passings through it historically, it is possible in future visits of the same are to generate a route prediction made up by the "hottest" pixels. By fetching the slope values in the hottest pixels, it is possible to generate a slope horizon that can be utilized by control systems, e.g. when planning gear shifts in hilly offroad terrain. To mange the incrementally growing map, a memory management system was implemented. It buffers the relevant map data from the database, i.e. the vehicles closest surroundings, which is then used for route prediction and horizon generation. As the vehicle moves into other areas, new data is read from the database, and the recently passed area is written back to the database, however updated from the recent passing. The system is implemented so that it runs through another application in the telematics electrical controller unit (ECU) in a Scania vehicle. The ECU contains a GNSS module from which the vehicle fetches satellite positioning data. Slope data is fetched from a slope sensor mounted on the truck. Due to implications during testing and debugging of the resulting application developed and implemented during this thesis project, the application's performance couldn't be assessed properly. However, it is concluded that the background the application is built on is reliable, although tweaks to get the application fit for usage in offroad terrain had to be made. Mainly, the horizon length and map building techniques should not be the same as in similar applications for onroad driving.

Graphics workflow optimization when editing standard tasks using modern graphics editing programs / Optimalizace workflow grafika při úpravě standardních úloh pomoci současných grafických programů

Khabirova, Maja January 2012 (has links)
This work focuses on the description and characteristics of common problems which graphic designers face daily when working for advertising agencies. This work describes tasks and organises them according to the type of graphic being processed and the types of output. In addition, this work describes the ways these common tasks can be completed using modern graphics editing software. It also provides a practical definition of a graphic designer and graphic agency. The aim of this work is to map out the fundamental tasks with raster graphics which graphic designers must perform most frequently during their work and to suggest an optimal workflow. As a result, after collating all of the proposed solutions, a manual should take form. It should help to facilitate early stages of work for students who may hold the position of junior graphic designer within advertising agencies.

Skolans arbete med att motverka utanförskap inom rastverksamheten : En kvalitativ studie om hur man inom fritidshemmet jobbar för att motverka social exkludering och utanförskap bland elever / The school's work in combating exclusion in the break operations : A qualitative study on how to work within School Age Educare to counter social exclusion and exclusion among students

Gharagozli, Minoo January 2020 (has links)
The break is an important element in educational activities. Previous research shows that the free form of the break gives much more leeway for students to act independently but that it is sometimes at the expense of some students. The purpose of this study is to further investigate how one works within the recreational home to counter social exclusion and exclusion among students at the break. The study has an emphasis on data collected from interviews. These have been conducted with professionals working in the leisure home. Results are reported in four themes identified in the processing of collected empirical data. The study concludes that staff attach great importance to norms. Regarding the work towards creating exclusion, much of their work during the break refers to being an active part of the students' play. This is to be able to communicate inclusive norms and create a common sense among the students.

Deep Reinforcement Learning for the Optimization of Combining Raster Images in Forest Planning

Wen, Yangyang January 2021 (has links)
Raster images represent the treatment options of how the forest will be cut. Economic benefits from cutting the forest will be generated after the treatment is selected and executed. Existing raster images have many clusters and small sizes, this becomes the principal cause of overhead. If we can fully explore the relationship among the raster images and combine the old data sets according to the optimization algorithm to generate a new raster image, then this result will surpass the existing raster images and create higher economic benefits.    The question of this project is can we create a dynamic model that treats the updating pixel’s status as an agent selecting options for an empty raster image in response to neighborhood environmental and landscape parameters. This project is trying to explore if it is realistic to use deep reinforcement learning to generate new and superior raster images. Finally, this project aims to explore the feasibility, usefulness, and effectiveness of deep reinforcement learning algorithms in optimizing existing treatment options.    The problem was modeled as a Markov decision process, in which the pixel to be updated was an agent of the empty raster image, which would determine the choice of the treatment option for the current empty pixel. This project used the Deep Q learning neural network model to calculate the Q values. The temporal difference reinforcement learning algorithm was applied to predict future rewards and to update model parameters.   After the modeling was completed, this project set up the model usefulness experiment to test the usefulness of the model. Then the parameter correlation experiment was set to test the correlation between the parameters and the benefit of the model. Finally, the trained model was used to generate a larger size raster image to test its effectiveness.

Mechanické vlastnosti polymerů vyrobených 3D tiskem / Mechanical properties of polymers produced by 3D printing technology

Král, Filip January 2018 (has links)
The thesis deals with the dependence of mechanical characteristics on the anisotropy of polymers Nylon 12 and Ultem 9085 made by a 3D printing technology Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). The evaluation of the material characteristics was performed on the basis of tensile and non-instrumental impact tests. It was proven that the material characteristics are strongly dependent on anisotropy, i.e. on layer thickness and raster angle for both types of polymers.
