Sprachspiele : Grundlagen und Stellenwert im Fremdsprachenunterricht (German)

Du Toit, P.J. 22 October 2004 (has links)
The aim of this study is to prove that there is a need for innovative teaching methods in the foreign language classroom. This need arises from the fact that traditional and more conventional teaching methods tend to focus on analytical learning and left brain hemisphere activity, thereby alienating learners that are more inclined to holistic, right brain learning. The current study addresses this problem by showing in which ways the learner of German as a foreign language can benefit from the inclusion of language games in lessons. The research is directed towards indicating that games provide a basis for stimulating all the senses, thereby facilitating total learning. Many learners of German as a foreign language seem to get stuck somewhere in the process of foreign language acquisition, seemingly unable to progress to an acceptable level of communicating/expressing themselves effectively in the foreign language. The objective of this study therefore is to show how the implementation of language games can dynamically work against this problem. Specifically, the goals of this research project are: 1 To show in which ways language games can be used not only to motivate foreign language learners, but also to lift the barrier where motivation has been blocked, 2 To show in which ways language games fulfill the requirements of total learning / holistic learning (using all the senses, stimulating both brain hemispheres etc.), 3 To show in which ways language games form part of a communicative approach, simulating real-life situations, thereby enabling foreign language speakers to communicate more effectively. The type of study conducted in this mini-dissertation is of an interpretive nature. Theories on motivation, total learning, communicative approaches and the didactic value of games/playing are discussed in the various chapters. Information, gathered from various literature sources, has been organized so as to facilitate comparison as data-analysis technique. From the resulting comparisons, the findings of various researchers/authors have been synthesized in order to draw conclusions regarding the role of language games. Some practical recommendations follow to indicate how foreign language lessons can be structured in such a way that language games can be implemented to the benefit of students of German as a foreign language. / Dissertation (MA (German))--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Modern European Languages / unrestricted

IsiNdebele influence on Sepedi learners around the Dennilton Region in the Limpopo Province

Thamaga, Lesetje Johannah 07 December 2012 (has links)
Language contact is a universal phenomenon found in bilingual or multilingual societies. It is the basic and distinct quality of every culture. Language is the means by which people communicate, express their points of views, say what their feelings are and attach names to objects. As multicultural as South Africa is, it is almost impossible for one not to have an encounter with other people’s languages. This study therefore aims at investigating the influence of IsiNdebele on Sepedi learners at the primary schools around the Dennilton region in the Limpopo Province. Much has been said about language contact and its influence in urban areas but no study has yet been conducted in rural areas focusing on Sepedi and IsiNdebele speakers. In their works, researchers such as Malimabe (1990:12), Pettman (1993:3), Calteaux (1996:187) point out that urbanization has brought diverse cultures together in the townships and workplaces. To curb their language differences, lingua franca like Tsotsitaal, Iscamtho, Fanagalo and others inevitably emerged. The same happened in the Limpopo Province when the AmaNdebele came to the farms and mines seeking employment at the Marble Hall and Groblersdal areas, and some did find a place of refuge in these areas. As Pettman (1993:3) notes, various races, using different languages cannot occupy the same territory and live in daily contact without being mutually affected; each will acquire something from and in turn give something to the other. In Chapter One, the Constitutional requirement as well as the progress made in the teaching and learning of isiNdebele at the primary schools in the Dennilton region is explored. The findings in Chapter Two reveal that Amandebele children still speak isiNdebele at home but Sepedi at school. At some schools, the learners who take Sepedi first language and those who take isiNdebele first language are accommodated in one class and only separate during their first language instruction periods. This is done because of the shortage of classes but will obviously promote cross language influence, such as code-switching and code-mixing. The findings reveal that language influence is also perpetuated by multilingual families and educators. The isiNdebele speaking learners and teachers bring isiNdebele to the learning environment; hence the Sepedi speaking learners in these schools experience difficulties adjusting to the use of appropriate, standard Sepedi when they speak or write essays. The isiNdebele phonological sounds as in [z] mzala for Sepedi [ts] motswala ’cousin’, [dl] dlala for Sepedi [b] bapala ‘play’, [v] vula for Sepedi [β] bula etc. are observed to be infiltrating the Sepedi sound system and are outlined in Chapter Three. After examining the learners’ written work in Chapter Four, it is observed that there is the adaptation of phonemes on the morphological, semantic and the syntactical disciplines from isiNdebele into Sepedi lexical stock. Chapter Five recapitulates the whole study. Recommendations by the language teachers and the researcher to the Limpopo Education Department, the parents and all stakeholders involved in the teaching and learning of languages are stated in this concluding chapter. AFRIKAANS : Taalkontak is ’n universele fenomeen in tweetalige of veeltalige gemeenskappe. / African Languages / unrestricted

Internet of Things based Smart Homes : Security Risk Assessment and Recommendations

Ali, Bako January 2016 (has links)
The Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging paradigm focusing on the inter-connection of things or devices to each other and to the users. Over time, the most of connections in IoT are shifting from ‘Human to Thing’ to ‘Thing to Thing’. This technology is anticipated to become an essential milestone in the development of smart homes to bring convenience and efficiency into our lives and our homes. But, by bringing this IoT technology into our homes there will be important implications for security in these technologies. Connecting every smart objects inside the home to the internet and to each other results in new security and privacy problems, e.g., confidentiality, authenticity, and integrity of data sensed and exchanged by objects. These technologies are very much vulnerable to different security attacks that make an IoT-based smart home unsecure to live in and therefore it is necessary to evaluate the security risks to judge the situation of the smart homes. For any technology to be successful and achieve widespread use, it needs to gain the trust of users by providing sufficient security and privacy assurance. As in all sectors, maintaining security will be a critical challenge to overcome. As homes are increasingly computerized and filled with devices, potential computer security attacks and their impact on residents need to be investigated. This report uses OCTAVE Allegro Methodology which focuses mainly on information assets and considers containers (technical, physical and people) and conducts a security risk assessment with the goal of highlighting various security flaws in IoT-based smart home, impacts and proposing countermeasures to the identified issues satisfying most of security requirements. Finally, it comes up with some recommendations to the users. The research findings documented into a thesis paper for secure IoT-based smart home systems and the resulted list and recommendations will be some useful contribution which can be used as a foundation for the specification of security requirements. For future work, the assessment will be extended to include more types of smart home applications rather than just typical one. / <p>Validerat; 20160620 (global_studentproject_submitter)</p>

Vikten av kunduppföljning för en fastighetsmäklare / The importance of customer follow-up for a real estate agent

Nyström, Johanna, Gustafsson, Julia January 2012 (has links)
Aim The competition in the real estate market is increasing which means that the real estate agents are becoming increasingly dependent on customer care and to build long term relationships with their customers. This study aims to gain a larger knowledge of how the realtor work with follow-up in the daily work and gain a deeper understanding of why it´s important to do customer follow-up. The question at issue is: Why is customer follow-up important for a real estate agent? How does a real estate agent follow-up the customers in practice? Method This study is based on a qualitative method, because the main question in the study requires a description of the reality. Interviews, with a low degree of structure and standardization, have been made with professional real estate agents. The approach to the study is deductive, i.e. it´s based on theory. Result &amp; Conclusions The main reason estate agents use follow-up is to maintain the relationship with the customer so it can generate profit to the realtor in different ways. This happens through satisfied customers who becomes loyal customers, returns when it´s time for the next property transaction and becomes recommended to the customers friends and acquaintances. Suggestions for future research Exploring the customers´ views on follow-up. Investigate to what extent the follow-up have positive or negative effect on customer relationships. Develop measurable data on how profitable it really is to work with followup. Contribution of the thesis The study has highlighted the issue of how important it is for a seller to work with customer follow-up. We also have mapped how estate agents use customer follow-up in their everyday work.

Bariéry při vzdělávání vietnamských žáků ve vybrané základní škole / Barriers in Education of Vietnamese Pupils in a selected primary school

Troušková, Ivanka January 2020 (has links)
Presented Diploma Thesis deals with the topic of Barriers in the Education Process of Vietnamese Pupils in a Selected Primary School. At the theoretical level the work deals with the teaching process and its factors. It also deals with the barriers in the teaching process. The aim of the work is to find out whether the teachers of the selected school perceive any barriers when teaching Vietnamese students and to propose recommendations that would help to minimize or even eliminate the identified barriers in practice. The aim of the work was achieved in the practical part of the work on the basis of a qualitative research survey during which teachers of the selected primary school having experience with the education of Vietnamese students were addressed. It was found that among the most frequently mentioned barriers in the teaching of Vietnamese students belongs the language barrier. Among the cultural barriers teachers mention pupils' non-verbal expressions. They may be incorrectly given the wrong meanings. At the same time teachers don't describe cultural barriers as striking as the language barrier. Ignorance of the Czech language and some specifics in the culture and behavior were identified as barriers in the integration of Vietnamese pupils into the class team. The teachers of the selected...
