Originated in Taiwan, HTC is a pride of Taiwan that it proves the Taiwanese company can be excellent not only in cellphone OEM/ODM industry but also it is possible to be an OBM which is known to the world. In April 2011, HTC (2498.TW) stock price reached as high as NT$1,300, while stockholders were rejoicing over the seeming success, soon when it came to Q4 2011, however, it announced an income drop of 41.1% compared to the previous quarter. From August till October 2012, the stock price had been lingering around NT$250 to NT$280. Close to Taiwan, Samsung from South Korea has become the number one in the mobile phone sales market in Q2 2012. Reported by Gartner, in Q2 2011, Samsung had taken the market share by 16.3% and it climbed to 21.6% in Q2 2012, which was its first time to defeat Nokia, whose market share was 19.9%. Today, Samsung has been the new leader in the mobile phone industry. Samsung arose from a humble beginning but it is now on the top of the world; however, once always compared side by side, is HTC still able to compete against Samsung today? Samsung has developed its unique competitive advantages to dominate the market. HTC, however, traditionally strong in design, is striving to “coming back,” which was the promise of HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou, in a letter addressing to the employees. Now it’s the high time to review HTC’s strategies in the market. The study collects the resources related to how Samsung, as a successful multinational firm, utilizes competitive strategies, and then analyzes the possibilities to apply those to HTC. It is expected to provide practical suggestions to HTC, with anticipation of its coming back.

In this thesis, the author will scrutinize the chaebol in Korean economy. Since their emergence, their existence has straddled between amity and antagonism. Even if they contributed to Korean economy, they still remain the criticism targets from people. Hence, this research is for investigating the reason and will seek for the better prospect. While I am researching, I tried to keep moderation perspective. Therefore, the author deals with Korean conglomerate’s strong points as well as the criticism points. In this process, research’s basis is on the case study with Samsung and also literature analysis. The propose of research is to reject the polarization perspective in order to avoid harmful consequences and to acknowledge chaebol’s efforts such as global strategies. Moreover, this research will not stretch the meaning of economic democratization and will approach from the co-existence perspective.

In 2001 the IT industries in the world were in a recession and world top companies were in a deficit storm, but Samsung Electronics(SEC) still could make huge income. The success factors of SEC includes leadership, company culture, recruiting, huge investment, e-business, and sports marketing, etc. This thesis tries to do case study about Samsung Group, one of the representative Jaebol(Korean big companies) of Korea, and the main objects of study are SEC and electronic-related subsidiary companies like SDI, SEM etc., to study Samsung Group¡¦s innovation strategy and R&D management. Firstly, this thesis divided the contents of SEC¡¦s Digital Convergence goal and strategy into B to B and B to C, and named as up-stream innovation and down-stream innovation respectively. As one of the main success factors of electronic industries is R&D, I empathize SEC¡¦s unusual technology learning or R&D strategy in the first part, that is R&D history of semiconductor, mobile phone, and TFT-LCD, and its R&D organization. Secondly is the so-called innovation strategy, and this thesis define it to be consisted of four main factors, that is domestic up-stream innovation, international down-stream innovation, domestic down-stream innovation, and international up-stream innovation, which is its innovation process. Finally, I analyzed SEC¡¦s financial ratio, to prove the above non-financial factors more specifically. As a result, Samsung invested huge money to R&D, which is needed for Digital Convergence product, like semiconductor, TFT-LCD, mobile phone etc, based on the vertical integration of group organization, growing to multinational company throughout the innovation strategy.

Lots of researches and reports analyzed the success of Samsung Electronics (SEC) mostly focusing on Samsung Group. This paper attempts to look into the relationship between SEC and Samsung Group in terms of SEC¡¦s capital management, and intends to find out if Samsung Group brings advantages to SEC. The analysis in this paper is divided into two parts: ¡]1¡^ examining the source and the use of SEC¡¦s capital by comparing with AUO and PSC¡F¡]2¡^scrutinizing SEC and the Group's financial performances. Firstly, from cash flow's point of view, AUO and PSC depend on substantial financing to meet their capital gap. Differences in working capital also cause impact on cash flow from operating activities. Same results are found similarly in analyzing the SEC and the Group. Moreover, regarding the purpose the capital, SEC evidently shows higher weights in cash outflows from investment activities than in property, plant and equipment. The difference mainly lies in the cross-investments between SEC and Samsung Group. On the other hand, based on the computation of financial ratios, SEC benefits from Samsung Group's integrated supply chains in comparison with AUO and PSC, especially in terms of account receivables and inventories. However, the same advantages are not shown in account payables conversely. It is inferred that SEC supports Samsung Group through giving looser credits. To sum up, as far as cash flows are concerned, SEC is capable of operating with sufficient working capital because of diversification and cross-investment within the Group. Meanwhile, SEC exhibits superior financial ratios than its peer companies as Group's cooperation. Subsequently, it is concluded that SEC gains much stronger competitive advantages from Samsung Group.

In such a scenario, mobile application development is one of most sought after platforms. Android is one of the largest platforms that run in most smart phones from manufacturers like Samsung, HTC etc. ToGo Cabs is an Android phone cab reservation application which targets the residents of the state of Kansas. While some cab services boast about their cab being just a call away, some other taxi services boast about the punctuality of their service. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, the passengers are just tired of waiting at different locations for the cab that they have just reserved to pick them up and take them home. What we need is a reliable mobile application which reserves a cab for us from a specific place at a certain time and which tells its users the status of the cab in order to keep them from waiting for long hours. ToGo Cabs serves just that purpose. ToGo Cabs allows the users to get a cab from any location in the state of Kansas, even if they seem to be lost. One does not have to spend hours on phone with the cab services to tell them where exactly you are located currently. The Global Positioning System takes care of the current location for the users. This application shows the route to the user, which the cab would take to reach to the destination. Once a user reserves a cab, he is acknowledged with a confirmation number which he can further use to check the cab status. The application provides the user the facility to e-mail or text his confirmation number. The application can also set a reminder notification just 15 minutes before the cab pick-up. The user can also check all the trips that he has made so far, from the application.

Under the government development policy, the pulling power of domestic market, and the technology support from Japan, Taiwan has surpass Korean, became the largest Large scale TFT LCD supplying country. The rising status of Taiwan has attracted a lot of international critical component supplier to establish branch in Taiwan, including Corning, Merk, Asahi, NEG, NH Techono Glass Corporation, Nitto optical, HOYA. Taiwan need to increase the self-supplying rate of equipment and control and manage the technology patent to be more competitive. Under the specific long-tern developing policy, Korea government creates a very suitable environment for industry-government-research cooperation. With unique conglomerate developing method, Korea LCD company has producing economic sales, well-known brand name, and vertical integration of key components, which made Korea replaced Japan to be the largest LCD panel supplying country since 1997. Korean¡¦s company keep on upgrade themselves by investing in R&D, under government¡¦s supporting policy, the country is expected to reach 80% self-supplying rate in related material, components and producing equipment, which totally makes Korea more competitive in panel industry. In order to understand the development model of Taiwan and Korean¡¦s company, this research take Taiwan AOU and Korean Samsung as study case to compare how different background and innovative ways influence company¡¦s business performance.

With increasing globalism, most firms are expanding operations into many different countries. Company operations are not single location; the plants, warehouses, and distribution centers are located in terms of the proximity of the resource base and the cost benefits derived from the most advantageous locations. Multinational enterprises were resulted because of markets of products in a specific nation were too mature to increase the sales volume. Firms could no longer gain profits from domestic markets and revenue from the domestic markets were shrinking. The development of a multinational enterprise must be relevant to its different foreign entry modes. Its selection is a complex process in that the firm must evaluate multiple factors, such as the extent of the risk of investing in a nation and how much the firm is involved in the host countries. The research aim of this thesis is to compare the cases ACER of Taiwan and Samsung Electronics co. (SEC) of Korea in terms of how each firm dealt with barriers to entry in the electronics industry and thus become strong competitors in the world. The thesis also focuses on the selection of foreign entry mode to achieve success in business expansion. This research focuses on the internationalization process of Acer, a Taiwanese firm and Samsung Electronics Co. (SEC), a Korean firm, in European markets.

The objective of this work is to demonstrate the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance in the manufacturing industry, when it is focused on increasing the production volume of its lines, in order to reduce the final cost of the finished product. This work was developed in the company Samsung SDI Brasil Ltda, which is a company of the Samsung SDI group from South Korea. Based on the bibliographic review, which presents the application of this quality tool in several types of productive activities, and the description of the specific process of the production of image tubes, this one proposes to a methodology of changes, using TPM as support center of the model, which duly adapted by the application of the tools that constitute the activities of a small working group, this certainly constitutes a new and efficient management system. The considerations make reference to the feasibility of the TPM applicability in the industry of transformation and production of tubes of images, in the segment of the electronics industry, among the several industrial activities, provided that the necessary adaptations are made for each type of products and / or activities, keeping their respective proportions and types of management, with the appropriate adaptations. / A realização deste trabalho é de vital importância para a manutenção e funcionamento da empresa a que se destina, pois trata do aprimoramento da quantidade de produção, bom atendimento a demanda de produção e certamente da inovação dos produtos, que precisam ser adaptados rapidamente, proporcionando condições de sobrevivência para a empresa num mundo globalizado. O objetivo deste trabalho, é demonstrar a implementação da Manutenção Produtiva Total na indústria de transformação, quando voltada para o aumento do volume de produção de suas linhas, com a finalidade de reduzir o custo final do produto acabado. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido na empresa Samsung SDI Brasil Ltda, essa que é uma empresa do grupo Samsung SDI da Coréia do Sul. Com base na revisão bibliográfica, onde se apresenta a aplicação desta ferramenta da qualidade em diversos tipos de atividades produtivas diferentes, e a descrição do processo específico da produção de tubos de imagens, este se propõe a uma metodologia de mudanças, utilizando a TPM como suporte central do modelo, que devidamente adaptada, pela aplicação das ferramentas que constituem as atividades de funcionamento de um pequeno grupo de trabalho, este certamente se constitui em um novo e eficiente sistema de gestão. As considerações fazem referências à viabilidade da aplicabilidade da TPM, na indústria de transformação e produção de tubos de imagens, no segmento da indústria eletroeletrônica, entre as diversas atividades industriais, desde que sejam realizadas as devidas adaptações para cada tipo de produtos e/ou atividades, guardando suas respectivas proporções e tipos de gestão, com as devidas adaptações.

Digital wallets have become a trendy topic, and a popular method of paying in physical stores. The aim of the study is to gain a deeper understanding of the attitude of Swedish consumers towards digital wallets Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. With the help of semi-structured interviews and previous research, users' attitudes could be more thoroughly established and the question asked for the study was answered. Factors that influence the user's attitude are based on previous research and theory. The factors that have been identified are usability, availability and security. With the help of the semi-structured interviews, it is possible to determine that most user's attitudes to the security of the services are poor. A poorer attitude to one or more factors will make the user's attitude to the whole of the services less favorable. The results also show that respondents feel some uncertainty when it comes to loss of account information. / Digitala plånböcker har blivit ett högaktuellt ämne, och en populär metod för att betala i fysiska butiker. Syftet med studien är att få en mer djupgående förståelse för svenska konsumenters inställning gentemot digitala plånböckerna Apple Pay och Samsung Pay. Med hjälp av semistrukturerade intervjuer och tidigare forskning har användarnas inställning kunnat fastställas grundligare och frågeställningen för studien besvarats. Faktorer som påverkar användarens inställning är baserade på tidigare forskning samt teori. De faktorer som har identifierats är användarvänlighet , tillgänglighet samt säkerhet. Med hjälp av de semistrukturerade intervjuerna går det att fastställa att de flesta användares inställning till säkerheten i tjänsterna är dåliga. En sämre inställning till en eller flera faktorer, leder till att användarens inställningen till helheten av tjänsterna blir mindre bra. Resultatet visar även att respondenterna känner en viss osäkerhet när det kommer till förlust av kontoinformation.

Digital forensics is a niche field of study that encompasses such things as extraction, analysis and presentation of digital information, that could be used to produce forensic evidence. There are several companies whose sole specialization is providing technical software solutions to detectives to help them quickly analyze retrieved devices that might contain evidence, instead of having to send the devices to forensic labs. However, there are still many areas that aren’t fully explored within the digital forensics industry, such as using personal health data. A factor that confounds this problem is that there are many different mobile devices running different operating systems and different versions of different applications. This report examines footstep data extraction and visualization on Android. Whether this data could be used as evidence according to law enforcement agencies is also investigated. Following a literature study to gain knowledge of the field of digital forensics, an experiment was conducted to gather data on a device through the Samsung Health application. This data was extracted and converted into a database, which was visualized using a prototype in the form of charts. Finally a technical trainer and former police officer was interviewed regarding whether the prototype could be seen as a proof-of-concept for future implementation among digital forensics solution providers. It was concluded that step data visualized in the form of graphs would be useful as forensic evidence for law enforcement detectives and juries. / Digital forensik är ett studieområde som omfattar extraktion, analys och presentation av digital information, som kan användas för att producera forensiskt bevis. Det finns flera firmor som specialiserar i att utrusta detektiver med mjukvarulösningar som kan analysera enheter som kan innehålla bevis, istället för att skicka enheten till ett forensiskt lab. Det finns dock många områden som inte är helt utforskade inom digital forensik, som användning av personlig hälsodata. En faktor som utökar detta problem är att det finns många olika mobila enheter som kör olika operativsystem med olika versioner av olika applikationer. Denna rapport undersöker fotstegsdata extraktion och visualisering på Android. Om denna data kan användas som bevis av rättsväsende blir också utforskat. Efter en litteraturstudie för att få mer kunskap inom digital forensik, utfördes ett experiment för att samla data på en enhet genom Samsung Health- applikationen. Detta data extraherades och konverterades till en databas, som visualiserades genom en prototyp i form av grafer. Slutligen intervjuades en teknisk tränare och ex-polis för att se om prototypen skulle kunna ses som ett bevis på att digital forensik skulle kunna implementera stöd för fotstegsdata i framtiden. Slutsatsen drogs att stegsdata visualiserat i form av grafer skulle vara användbara som forensiskt bevis för detektiver och juryer.
