With results, areas of knowledge and bottlenecks in their development are identified. Thus, it was observed that gender Jatropha L. despite the identification of its potential uses, many of its species are shown with few morphological studies on their basic units, which are invaluable in identifying the species and research development. To identify this bottleneck, the first chapter was performed a prospective study of the genus Jatropha L. focusing on biotechnology as an aggregating agent in agriculture. Data collection was performed on the basis of the Web of Science and Derwent Innovation Index. The recovered data were processed in Vantage Point program, and then analyzed. It was found that the number of scientific publications on gender exceeds the number of patent applications. Brazil has low number of publications and only one patent document. The institution that stood out with a significant number was the Indian Institute of Technology, located in India. Through the words of the authors and key codes are listed in the International Patent Classification can observe the focus of research and products are the oil transformation and improvement of the species Jatropha curcas. In the second chapter, there was a scientific and technological mapping on two species of the genus, are they, J. gossypiifolia and J. podagrica and thus understand the advances of knowledge on these species. The results showed that the number of publications on J. gossypiifolia overcomes J. podagrica. The main journals used for publication were Journal of Ethnopharmacology and Planta Medica. Countries that have excelled in volume publication on J. gossypiifolia were India, Brazil and Australia; and patent priority countries Japan and India. To J. podagrica, the countries with the highest number of publications were Nigeria, India and the United States; and as the priority countries the United States, China, Japan and Denmark. Brazil ranks 4th in rank with respect to J. podagrica. The research related to these countries, including Brazil, show results on its medicinal use, proof testing, synthesis and extraction of substances. With respect to research institutions, the Federal University of Maranhão stood out as the largest center for generating knowledge about J. gossyppifolia. The species J. podagrica own reference publications, the University of Ife and University of Ibadan (Nigeria). Brazil is coming up, the effort of the Federal University of Lavras, with three published articles. The main codes of the International Patent Classification (IPC) for Jatropha gossypiifolia are focused on preparations for medical purposes, dental or hygiene, specific therapeutic activity of chemical compounds or medicinal preparations; and specific use of cosmetics or similar preparations for personal hygiene. For Jatropha podagrica patents are for new plants or processes for obtaining them; breeding plants by tissue culture techniques; horticulture; cultivation of vegetables, flowers, rice, fruit, vines, hops or algae; forestry; irrigation. In the third chapter, the study was conducted on seed morphology, germination and seedling J.gossypiifolia and J. podagrica. It was found by analysis that the seeds have a certain distinctions may be different, and some features, such as oblong shape in J. gossypiifolia and elliptical in J. podagrica and its dimensions, length and weight. The species still show variation in the form of leaves and number of eophylls. The presence of epicotyl with tricomatosas stipules to the fullest extent to J. gossypiifolia and epicotyl glabrous with presence of stipules tricomatosas the petiole base for J. podagrica was another characteristic for distinguishing species under study. A espécie J. podagrica possui como referência em publicações, a University of Ife e University of Ibadan (Nigéria).

The implementation of the research output policy with reference to the university of Pretoria and the University of Venda

Maphalla, Onicca Mmudi January 2014 (has links)
In South Africa, writing and publishing scientific articles is an important activity of academic life. It not only enhances the academic status and profile of the author and his or her institution, but also contributes towards the subsidy transfers of the Department of Higher Education and Training to universities. Furthermore, academic promotion is increasingly subject to a strong track record of research publications. Most importantly, academic publishing is the primary vehicle for the advancement of scientific knowledge required to enhance the quality of life of the society and also to strengthen the economy. Therefore, the government introduced the Policy and Procedures for the Measurement of Research Output of Public Higher Education Institutions, 2003, as a tool to sustain and encourage research productivity in order to increase research output. However, despite the compelling advantages of academic publishing, research outputs of South African universities are very low and are largely contributed by a small number of academics. This dissertation set out to critically examine the implementation of the Policy and Procedures for the Measurement of Research Output of Public Higher Education Institutions, 2003, at the University of Pretoria and the University of Venda. The purpose of this study is to investigate the policy implementation challenges that exist in both universities in the effort to effectively implement the research output policy. The qualitative research methodology was adopted towards the realisation of the aims and objectives of the study. The study employs the 5-C Protocol Model of Policy Implementation as a critical apparatus for analysing data acquired through case studies, field interviews and textual analysis of relevant books and documents. This will provide the researcher with critical aspects of the policy that are important for the implementation process. Furthermore, the study recommends possible solutions and strategies for addressing the implementation challenges that were identified in the analysis. / Dissertation (MPhil)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / gm2014 / School of Public Management and Administration / unrestricted

Sémantická blízkost pro vědecké články / Semantic Relatedness of Scientific Articles

Dresto, Erik January 2011 (has links)
The main goal of the thesis is to explore basic methods which can be used to find semantically related scientific articles. All the methods are explained in detail, compared and in the end evaluated by the standard metrics. Based on the evaluation, a new method for computing semantic similarity of scientific articles is proposed. The proposed method is based on the current state-of-the-art methods and adds the another important factor for computing similarity - citations. Using citations is important, since they represent a static bond between the articles. Finally, the proposed method is evaluated on the real data and compared with other described methods.

Orientador: Mariângela Spotti Lopes Fujita / Banca: Maria Isabel Asperti Nardi / Banca: Maria Cristiane Barbosa Galvão / Abstract: The teaching of indexing procedures by means of the "Documentary Reading Model for Indexing of Scientific Articles" offers to the apprentice indexer strategies of reading and development of his previous professional knowledgement. The "Documentary Reading Model for Indexing of Scientific Articles by Fujita (2003a) is a proposal of improvement and evolution of the methodology of indexing through the indexer's metacognition (non-automatized behaviour as the reader is conscious of how the reading is being carried out), using the knowledgement of textual structures of the reader, relying on strategies of systematic approach of concepts offered in his education. Considering the learning of the documentary reading process in classroom, it is searched into the applicability of this Model as pedagogical resource to apprentice indexers. By means of introspective technique of data collecting of the Interative Verbal Protocol, observing the process of apprehending the methodology, this research reveals difficulties by the apprentice and his development towards more satisfactory grades of carring out the indexing task. It was chosen three students from the second class of Librarianship that had not attended the discipline "Indexing and Abstracting" and were intested in taking part in the applying of the Verbal Protocol combined with the indexing task. The analysis of the Verbal Protocol's transcriptions shows that the apprentices had difficulties in identifying the concepts of this Model: to choose terms to represent the concepts, to understand the terminology of the medical science and to to set up the terms' form (singular or phrases). Such difficulty is relating to the using of the Reading Model adapted from the original where there was inversion of the concepts action and object. The Interactive Verbal Protocol consists of an innovative methodology functioning as pedagogical resource... (Complete abstract, click electronic address below) / Mestre

Analyse des relations entre concepts scientifiques et structure rhétorique dans des articles de recherche appartenant à un champ disciplinaire des Sciences de l’éducation / Analysis of relationships between scientific concepts and rhetorical structure in research articles belonging to a disciplinary field of Education sciences

Ait Saidi, Salima 02 December 2015 (has links)
Sándor, A. Kaplan, G. Randeau, 2006, D. Siepman, 2007, A. Tutin, 2007-2010), robust parsing (S. Aït-Mokhtar, J. Chanod, R. Roux, 2002). / Our research focuses on two interrelated objectives. The first one aims at providing assistance to the evaluation of scientific writings because of; the numbers of publication, which keep on rising, the boundaries between the areas become and it's becoming more and more difficult to find relevant publications so as the practical need for assessments is appearing as unavoidable. We also have to find new ways to help the evaluation of the research work, through a wide range of indications different from those usually used for research assessment, notably, through the identification of the research problem. These indications that announce the formulation of the research problem in scientific articles can be identified as "speech formulas." Our research does not extend to the formulation of the scientific problem because of the complexity of this concept and the difficulty of defining it from the point of view of information extraction. We propose a model of the speech forms that we have integrated into the parser Xerox Incremental Parser (XIP) in pattern recognition rules. We used a corpus of Educational Sciences Research articles from the Scientext corpus to detect these speeches formulas. The choice of field is motivated by my participation in the European project EERQI which aims to strengthen and enhance the worldwide visibility and competitiveness of European research in education. Different methodological approaches were adopted to perform a fine linguistic study of these formulas as: discourse analysis (Mr. Pecman, 2004, K. Hyland, 2005, Á, Sándor A. Kaplan, G. Randeau, 2006, D. Siepman, 2007, A. Tutin, 2007-2010), robust parsing (S. Aït-Mokhtar, J. Chanod, R. Roux, 2002). Thus, the goal is to implement an applicative approach aiming at helping expert reading through the identification, typology and functioning of lexical associations which convey the research problem.

Marcus Weydson Pinheiro 18 November 2018 (has links)
This study, which is embedded in the field of Translation Studies, corroborates the recognition of the Brazilian Sign Language, the so-called Libras, thanks to its inclusion in the Brazilian curricula of Higher Education institutions. The main objective of this research is to identify and point out the function of translation in Libras as a strategy for understanding and interpreting the text type scientific article in Portuguese in the subject âPsychology and Education of Deaf Peopleâ, within the framework of the subjects studied in area of the discipline Fundamentals of Education, part of the Libras Undergraduate Course curriculum (Teachers Training Program) at Federal University of Cearà (UFC). With special attention given to deaf students, this research intends to investigate if and how the translation of scientific texts in the Portuguese/Libras direction serves as an instrument to reach the levels of comprehension necessary to carry out the activities that require reading, translation and text/discourse production with the specific text type scientific article originally written in Portuguese. To reach the main objective of this work, this research was methodologically based on an action-research (VIEIRA, 2009), starting with, on the one hand, analyzes of extratextual and intratextual factors of a source text (ST) in Portuguese and the corresponding target text (TT) in Libras. These analyzes were carried out by six (6) deaf students regularly enrolled in the discipline âPsychology and Education of Deaf Peopleâ at UFC, who were previously instructed on the theoretical foundations proposed by Nord (2016) in the field of the Functionalist Approach to Translation. On the other hand, as part of the methodology, questionnaires were applied to the same 6 (six) deaf students, and also to the teacher of the subject âPsychology and Education of Deaf Peopleâ. As a theoretical support in the field of translation, in this research we make use of the fundamental principles of the Scope Theory, conceived by Reiss & Vermeer (1996), and of the Functionalist Approach to Translation, with our attention focused specifically on Nordâs works (2012; 2014; 2016). Our concern is based on one of our hypotheses: the need for preparation of teachers who teach the discipline âPsychology and Education of Deaf Peopleâ in the UFC Libras Undergraduate Course on questions related to the use of translation as a strategy for deaf students to be able to achieve better learning objectives by being confronted with scientific articles written in Portuguese. Because of the complexity of the text type scientific article (e. g. technical and/or scientific language, formal Portuguese language register, specific terms etc.), teachers need to present, to the students, translations of the texts in Libras, exhibited in DVD format. Thus, in our hypotheses we envisage that the students involved usually use Portuguese as a second language, thus lacking in-depth knowledge that could enable them to easily understand scientific articles written in that language. They also lack knowledge and experience with textual analyzes that take into account the different intratextual and extratextual factors such as those proposed by Nord (2016). We understand this need as a current challenge for the UFC Libras Undergraduate Course; we also think that, if measures are adopted leading to a practical understanding of these exercises, aided by theories from the field of Translation Studies, future deaf professionals that will graduate from the UFC Libras Undergraduate Course will have a more complete training and a better command of reading comprehension 11 in Portuguese. This will also certainly be reflected in the performance of their future role as educators, in which they should be committed to include deaf children and young people in society in general, nevertheless without neglecting the characteristics of the culture of deaf people. In general, our results indicate that the target group participating in the action-research is not familiar with a textual analysis model regarding both ST and TT, such as that provided by Nordâs Functionalist Approach to Translation (2016); this fact certainly makes it difficult for deaf students to understand the contents presented in the original Portuguese texts and the corresponding translation into Libras. Specifically, we can conclude, among other things, that the deaf students that we examined/interviewed during our action-research: a) need to become acquainted with the Brazilian Portuguese syntactic structures and vocabulary as well; b) need to be aware of the peculiarities of their natural/mother tongue as compared to Brazilian Portuguese as a second language; c) need to make more careful readings of scientific articles; d) lack deeper knowledge about typical concepts that are used in Text Linguistics; e) declare to increase their knowledge of specialized terminology in Libras through the scientific articles translated from LP to Libras; f) assume the importance of inclusive/and bilingual school for deaf people as a preparation for Higher Education; g) use different electronic media to obtain a better reading comprehension of scientific articles; h) majorly do not consider themselves capable of translating scientific articles from LP to Libras; i) recognize that translation is a tool that really brings advantages to reading comprehension.

This dissertation investigates the semantic coherence in the indexing of journal articles in the public health area, in Portuguese, indexed in the Scientific Production Repository of the National School of Public Health Sergio Arouca (ENSP) of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), aiming to contribute With the semantic interoperability between the repositories of this Foundation. The research is based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the areas of thematic representation and documentary linguistics, within the scope of the Organization of Knowledge in CI, as well as in Bibliometrics, and its goals are: (a) to verify comparatively the semantic coherence in the indexing of articles Scientists in the field of public health; (B) to investigate the occurrence of indexation terms in light of quantitative bibliometric models used in indexing in Information Science; (C) provide evidence of the importance of the discursive genre scientific journal article in the area of public health; (D) identify the terms-figure and background terms of the articles analyzed for a better understanding of the informativeness of scientific texts; (E) contribute to the advancement of knowledge about phenomena that guide the indexing of scientific information, particularly on semantic coherence in indexing information in the health area. For that, 10 articles from Brazilian scientific journals, published in open access between 2012-2014 and registered in the Scientific Production Repository of the ENSP / Fiocruz, were analyzed. The articles were processed in the software RankWord and WordSmith 6.0, applying later the laws of Zipf and Goffman Transition Point to identify the terms of high semantic load of the texts. The terms selected in each article were compared in the 5 (five) indicators used in the research: Goffman Region T; Expressions WordSmith 6.0, Keywords; DeCS (Descriptors in Health Sciences) and Title. The results were compiled using the discourse plan of the sentences, with emphasis on terms used as foregrounding and in terms used as background, helping to verify the degree of coherence between the articles. The data collected reveal a low degree of semantic coherence in most articles studied. We suggest an investigation with an expanded sample to confirm the data obtained, especially when dealing with articles published in Portuguese in the health area and its importance in national scientific communication.

For purposes of analysis, Two text versions were selected, prepared in 2011 and 2013, resulting respectively from Project ART (Application and theoretical reflection in the classroom: linguistic analysis as support for the text production of students from a public school in the State of Paraná) and DAT (Diagnostics and Theoretical Application in the Classroom: income verification and evaluation of the teaching of linguistic analysis and textual production of middle school students from a public school in the State of Paraná). From these productions, we organized cuts due to the occurrence of and in which the sense deriving from the connector was different from that conveyed by Traditional Grammar. The proposal of this work resides in the analysis of the connective in the cuts, based on theoreticians such as Quirk and Greenbaum (1987), Neves (2000; 2006) and Corbari (2005), with the purpose of evaluating whether the cutouts accommodate uses of and where it is possible to measure different semantic manifestations of the additive, considering that it is a linguistic element that triggers semantic-argumentative relations not foreseen by traditional grammar, such as cause, explication, conclusion, among others. We verified that, in fact, the e translates semantic possibilities different from those predicted by the Traditional Grammar and that these possibilities can be modified by reason of the textual genre in which the connective manifests and the degree of engagement that the producer of the statement chooses to demonstrate or not.
