Sebetvorba v Nietzscheho Ecce homo / Self-creation in Nietzsche's Ecce Homo

Mára, Vítězslav January 2022 (has links)
(EN) In the last of his finished works, Nietzsche presents a special sort of retrospect of his past and, at the same time, prospect of his future. The aim of the thesis is to examine the possibility that Nietzsche attempts to present some of the results of his preceeding inquires in practice and provides readers with a guideline for creation of practical philosophy in accord with their own constitution, being aware of external and internal dangers of the project. By means of an exemplary self-interpretation, Nietzsche demonstrates the process of human self-becoming.

Nová studie orbitálních a dlouhodobých změn dvojhvězdy s hvězdou se závojem phi Persei / A new study of orbital and long-term variations of the Be star phi Persei

Jonák, Juraj January 2022 (has links)
The well-known spectroscopic binary ϕ Per is a peculiar compact system, composed of a Be star with an O-type subdwarf companion. A set of nearly 400 spectra in the red and blue regions from Ondřejov and Potsdam Observatories as well as spectra published in the BeSS database were examined. From the radial velocities of Hα, Hβ, and Hγ emission lines and FUV observations from the IUE and HST, a new precise ephemeris was determined. The revised values of M sin3 (i) are 11.84 and 1.48 M (with uncertainties of 0.64 and 0.09 M ), re- spectively, for the primary and secondary. In addition, the system shows cyclic variations (with a time scale of about 5 years) in the profiles of Balmer lines, manifested in their radial velocities, central intensities and V/R ratios. Understanding complex stellar systems requires combining multiple types of ob- servations and creating models of sufficient complexity. In our case, a combination of interferometric visibilities from the CHARA/VEGA array, spectral energy dis- tribution as well as individual spectral lines were used. Radiative-transfer compu- tations were performed with the program PYSHELLSPEC, and physical parameters of the ϕ Per primary and the surrounding disc were derived. They correspond to an evolved system, in which most of mass was transferred from the secondary to...

Russian international arms trade: Opportunism or strategy?

Jaroš, Milan January 2022 (has links)
This master's thesis focuses on Russian international trade of conventional weapons. Arms trade had played an important role during the Cold War as a tool to gain influence. Currently, Russia is using it to regain the influence it had lost after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in various regions around the world. At the same time, Russia is the second largest arms exporter after the United States. The thesis briefly addresses past Russian arms trade, but the main focus is on the decade between 2010 and 2020. It answers the question whether Russia currently uses its arms trade opportunistically to only maximalise its economic profit or whether it serves as a part of a larger strategy to balance the influence of the United States. The work focuses on Asia, the MENA region, and Latin America. It analyses circumstances surrounding arms deliveries from Russia into the countries in these regions. The thesis consists of several case studies, which illustrate the evolution of Russian approach towards arms trade. It reaches the conclusion that, for Russia, international arms trade is an important tool to help reach its foreign policy goals. Russia maintains strong and stable relations with the most important trade partners to support its defence industry. At the same time, other countries receive...

Unamunian Microcosms: Four Short Stories in a New Translation into English

Davis, Emily A. 04 May 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Spanish writer Miguel de Unamuno's short fiction is neglected in both the academic and nonacademic communities, and it is especially underrepresented in English-language translation. This thesis constitutes a comprehensive approach to four short stories: "El que se enterró," "La manchita de la uña," "Mecanópolis," and "Batracófilos y batracófobos." A detailed exploration of thematic resonances among them, and between these and other works by Unamuno, precedes side-by-side translations of all four texts, of which only "Mecanópolis" has been previously published in English translation.

Utomhusundervisning? "Yes, You Get Fresh Air and You Learn Things" : A qualitative study about teachers´ and pupils in grade 4-6

Johansson (Segervall), Camilla E M January 2004 (has links)

Nordén, Christian January 2013 (has links)
Organization's are constantly under change in order to meet internal and external demands. These changes affect the organization's employees in different ways. As technology development, increased use of the internet as a communication platform, organizations more frequently uses the web as a communication channel. Within the health sector, web-based information and communication services are called E-health. In Sweden, the website 1177.se is such an E-health service. This essay aims to examine how the organization Landstinget i Östergötland implement and establish the national website 1177.se in their daily business. The implementation is examined from two perspectives, both from healthcare employee perspective and also from the perspective of employees of the organization's information department. To fulfill of the purpose of the essay a qualitative interview-study has been carried out. In total, 12 employees were interviewed, chosen from three different departments within Landstinget i Östergötland. The results illustrates the respondents view of the organization, internal communication, the importance of distinct establishment and the need of making objectives clear, as central themes for the implementation of 1177.se. The Information department is working to get more employees to use 1177.se in their daily work, while employees on health care services is seeking more clarity about the acctual use of the web-site. It is concluded that the perceived difficulty communicating consistently with everyone in a large decentralized organization and that the benefits of the website is not perceived equally between the departments. Information quality, ”training in use” and the managers role as ambassadors is pointed out as crucial in the implementationprocess on the three departments.

Temporal Convolutional Networks for Nanopore DNA Sequencing

Santiago Garcia, Eric, Salomonsson Aspåker, Hannes January 2020 (has links)
Nanopore DNA sequencing is a novel method forsequencing DNA where an electronic signal is modulated bynucleotides passing through nanosized pores embedded in a mem-brane. While current state-of-the-art solutions employ recurrentneural networks to analyse the signal, temporal convolutionalnetworks have recently been shown to match or outperformrecurrent networks in signal processing tasks. In this project, weinvestigate the performance of temporal convolutional networkson a simplified version of the sequencing task, where thegoal is to predict the nucleotides passing through the pore ateach instance in time, without reconstructing the correspondingDNA sequence. The impact of several network parameters onpredictive performance is analysed to determine an optimalarchitecture. While the implemented networks are shown tobe proficient at predicting nucleotides within the pore, thecurrent implementation is unlikely to outperform state-of-the-art solutions without further improvement. / Kandidatexjobb i elektroteknik 2020, KTH, Stockholm

The fungal communities associated with Red-cockaded Woodpeckers and their excavations: descriptive and experimental evidence of symbiosis

Jusino, Michelle Alice 29 July 2014 (has links)
Cavity-excavating birds, such as woodpeckers, are ecosystem engineers and are often assumed to rely upon wood decay fungi to assist in softening the wood of potential excavation sites. Endangered red-cockaded woodpeckers (Picoides borealis; RCWs) are the only birds known to solely excavate through the sapwood and into the heartwood of living pine trees and generally take many years to complete their excavations. These birds may have developed a partnership with wood-inhabiting fungi to facilitate the excavation process. Past attempts to understand the complex relationships between cavity excavators and fungi relied on visual surveys of fruiting bodies, or evidence of decay, resulting in a one bird, one fungus paradigm. Using molecular methods, I investigated the relationships between RCWs and fungi, and found that the relationships between cavity-excavators and fungi involve multiple fungal species and are far more complex than previously imagined. Through a field survey, I showed that RCW excavations contain distinct communities of fungi, and propose two hypotheses to explain this result, (1) RCWs select trees with distinct fungal communities (tree selection hypothesis), or (2) RCWs promote distinct fungal communities via their excavations (bird facilitation hypothesis). By swabbing the birds, I found that RCWs carry fungal communities similar to those found in their completed excavations, demonstrating that RCWs may directly facilitate fungal dispersal during the excavation process. Through a test of the bird introduction hypothesis which implemented human-made experimental drilled cavity starts (incomplete excavations), half of which were inaccessible to the birds, I showed that RCW accessibility influences fungal community development in excavations. This experimental evidence demonstrates that the relationship between RCWs and fungal communities is a multipartite symbiosis may be mutualistic. Finally, by tracking fungal community development in experimental cavity starts through time, I also demonstrated that the fungal communities found in RCW excavations undergo succession, and that this process is influenced by the birds. The relationships described in this body of work provide the basis for future studies on cavity excavators and fungi, and also have implications for a diverse community of secondary cavity nesters, wood-inhabiting fungi, forest ecology, and the conservation of biodiversity. / Ph.
