Desenvolvimento e validação de um questionário para avaliar o nível de proficiência de alunos em mapeamento conceitual / Development and validation of a questionnaire to assess the level of student\'s understanding about concept maps

Joana Guilares de Aguiar 20 June 2012 (has links)
Concept Map (Cmap) is a technique to organize and represent knowledge through a propositional net. Although the fact that concept maps are used in formal education context few papers has mentioned the importance and necessity of a straight-forward training session on the technique, which allow to enjoy its benefits. This study develops an instrument to assess the level of knowledge of mappers after the straight-forward training session. The propositional clarity table, the half structured Cmap and the expanded collaborative learning were the three strategies responsible to guarantee the understanding of four central concepts in conceptual mapping: proposition, focal question, recursivity revision and hierarchy. Five statements\' questionnaire (five-level Likert\'s scale) was developed, validated (Cronbach\'s alpha 0.902) and tested to assess the students\' understanding about Cmaps. Those questionnaires (n = 232) was collected on the last class of Natural Science course offered to first year\'s students of the Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades (School of Arts, Science and Humanities - University of São Paulo) in 2009 and 2010. Four classes was systematic trained (experimental group) and one class does not received the same training (control group). The data analysis involved the statistical treatment to comparison between the means by Student\'s t-test and non-supervised exploratory multivariate analysis for pattern recognition by Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results of t-test confirmed the questionnaire capability to distinguish the students of experimental from control group. HCA clustered the students according to their knowlodge level in concept mapping. PCA not only agree with the HCA results but also demonstrated that the understanding of propositional clarity semantic and the importance of focal question are critical to students that desire to be proficiencies in Cmaps.

Categorização da quarta sessão de psicoterapias bem e mal sucedidas / Categorization of the fourth session of successful and unsuccessful psychotherapies

Patricia Rivoli Rossi 02 May 2012 (has links)
Discutiu-se assim a necessidade de ampliar a amostra e utilizar outros eixos do sistema, como o de temas / The Multidimensional System for coding Behaviors in Therapist-Client Interaction (SiMCCIT), developed by Zamignani and Meyer, intend to describe what happens in psychotherapy sessions using behavioral categories of therapists and clients. The question that this study intended to answer was if this system is able to identify differences between successful and unsuccessful therapies. The assessment of therapy success was made with a mixed criterion defined by: (a) the results of the Working Alliance Inventory (WAI); (b) presence of improved behavior and analysis and (c) report of other changes in client behavior. In the total of 25 therapies with the first four sessions audio recorded, six were considered successful, six unsuccessful and 13 intermediate. The fourth sessions of successful and unsuccessful therapies were categorized. The data suggest some differences between the successful and unsuccessful therapy sessions, although not statistically significant. In the successful therapy sessions it was noted that: the category Request Report tended to be slightly more frequent in all sessions, the category Request showed a slightly higher percentage, and there was a positive correlation between Facilitation and Empathy. In the sessions of unsuccessful therapies it was found that: clients reported more or less than in successful therapies, the more clients reported more therapists facilitated their reports and that the more therapist asked reflections, the more goals clients proposed to undertake. Because the differences in categorization were not statistically significant in cases considered different it was concluded that the axis of vocal verbal behavior of SiMCCIT did not differentiate the successful from unsuccessful therapies. Some variables hampered the ability of the system to differentiate between sessions of successful and unsuccessful therapies: the reduced number of the sample and the use of only one of the axes of the system. It was discussed the need to expand the sample and use other axes of the system, such as themes

Physiological demands during rugby union matches and practice sessions

Smit, R.F. (Ruan Faure) 14 December 2011 (has links)
Research studies indicate that, by determining the physiological load placed on athletes during competitions, it can aid in the development of strength and conditioning programmes, according to the specific demands placed on athletes (Deutch et al., 1998; Kay&Gill, 2004). Physiological data, specifically on rugby union players, are furthermore limited and more information is needed (Banfi et al., 2006; Deutch et al., 2007). The aim of the study was to investigate the physiological demands of South African male U/21 club rugby players and to establish the correlation between physiological demands experienced during rugby games and practice sessions. Scientific methods to describe physiological demands in sport that are used are heart-rates and blood-lactate measurements (Eniseler, 2005). A group of U/21 rugby players (n=15) of the University of Pretoria (Tuks) rugby club participated in this study. Components that were tested included blood-lactate concentrations and heart-rates during rugby match and practice sessions. The data of the Tuks U/21 team was statistically analysed with descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations). Significant differences between match and practice sessions, at a p-value of P < 0.05, were determined by a dependent t-test. An independent t-test was used to determine significant differences between the forward and backs group (Thomas&Nelson, 2005). The results showed that statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were found between mean heart-rate in the rugby match (154.40 ±13.53) and practice sessions (138.33±4.81). No significant differences were found between peak lactate measurements in the match (5.39 ±2.44) and practice sessions (4.93±1.83). Between the forward and backs group no statistical significance could be found for average heart-rate and blood-lactate levels in practice sessions and the match. The findings of the present study indicate that rugby union matches for club level U/21 players are an intermittent type of activity, with both the use of aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. Additional research on more amateur rugby clubs is needed to extend the knowledge of club level coaches. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Biokinetics, Sport and Leisure Sciences / unrestricted

Role of Students’ Participation on Learning Physics in Active Learning Classes

Nainabasti, Binod 10 October 2016 (has links)
Students’ interactions can be an influential component of students’ success in an interactive learning environment. From a participation perspective, learning is viewed in terms of how students transform their participation. However, many of the seminal papers discussing the participationist framework are vague on specific details about what student participation really looks like on a fine-grained scale. As part of a large project to understand the role of student participation in learning, this study gathered data that quantified students’ participation in three broad areas of two student-centered introductory calculus-based physics classes structured around the Investigative Science Learning Environment (ISLE) philosophy. These three broad areas of classes were in-class learning activities, class review sessions that happened at the beginning of every class, and the informal learning community that formed outside of class time. Using video data, classroom observations, and students’ self-reported social network data, this study quantified students’ participation in these three aspects of the class throughout two semesters. The relationship between behaviors of students’ engagement in various settings of an active learning environment and (a) their conceptual understanding (measured by FCI gain) and (b) academic success in the courses as measured by exam scores and scores on out-of-class assignments were investigated. The results from the analysis of the student interaction in the learning process show that three class components, viz. the Review Session, Learning Activities, and Informal Learning Community, play distinct roles in learning. Students who come in the class with better content knowledge do not necessarily participate more in the learning activities of active learning classrooms. Learning Communities serve as a “support network” for students to finish assignments and help students to pass the course. Group discussions, which are facilitated by students themselves, better help students in gaining conceptual understanding. Since patterns of students’ participation do not change significantly over time, instructors should try to ensure greater participation by incorporating different learning activities in the active learning classroom.

Políticas para servidores web baseados em sessões visando qualidade e diferenciação de serviços / Policies to web servers based on sessions aiming quality and differentiation of services

Alessandra Kelli Barbato 25 April 2008 (has links)
This work considers policies for Web servers based on sessions, aiming at the guarantees of Quality of Service (QoS) to the systems users. Two types of policies are considered: the responsible for the differentiation of services and the responsible for the admission control. Some scheduling algorithms had been developed to offer better services for the priority sessions: the Session Based Scheduling Algorithm (SBSA) and the Session Based Scheduling Algorithm with Differentiation of Services (SBSA-DS). In relation to the admission control, two new policies had been considered, which use different parameters to help the decisions and have as objective guarantee the finalization of as many priority sessions as possible. From the obtained results of the experiments realized by mean of simulation, it is evidenced that the use of the developed algorithms and policies improves the attendance of the sessions that deserve preferential service. Therefore, in Web servers worried in the guarantee the QoS for their users, which interact with the system by sessions, the use of these new techniques reveals adequate

IP Multimedia Subsystem / IP Multimedia Subsystem

Bendíček, Martin January 2008 (has links)
This Master’s thesis deals with IMS architecture problems. This thesis describes its creation and progress, also structure of this architecture is mentioned. Text of this thesis describes function of the most important parts of the architecture, such as Proxy-CSCF, Interrogating-CSCF, Serving-CSCF and HSS. IMS architecture uses SIP protocol for establishment, maintenance and closing session and Diameter protocol for network management functions. That is why this thesis also describes characteristics of these two protocols. Next part of the thesis is focused on Open-source platform Open IMS Core and its installation. Open IMS Core platform was developed for testing IMS technologies within an internal project at the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS in Berlin. Nowadays it is used by major part of vendors and providers for testing their products and services. As a main theme of this thesis, there was made a simple network, which consists of three users. This network is established on fundamentals of IMS and it was made in Open IMS Core. So in one chapter is outlined a process of its creation. There is described a process of adding a user list to database server HSS. In the next part there are mentioned some information about setup of virtual IMS terminal. Eventually there are shown some possibilities of how to catch traffic in the network. In this chapter there are also state diagrams, which describe a process of registration of IMS terminal and also a process of establishment, maintenance and closing session.

VoIP Server HW/SW Codesign for Multicore Computing

Iqbal, Arshad January 2012 (has links)
Modern technologies are growing and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology is able to function in heterogeneous networks. VoIP gained wide popularity because it offers cheap calling rates compared to traditional telephone system and the number of VoIP subscribers has increased significantly in recent years. End users need reliable and acceptable call quality in real time communication with best Quality of Service (QoS). Server complexity is increasing to handle all client requests simultaneously and needs huge processing power. VoIP Servers will increase processing power but the engineering tradeoff needs to be considered e.g. increasing hardware will increase hardware complexity, energy consumption, network management, space requirement and overall system complexity. Modern System-on-Chip (SoC) uses multiple core technology to resolve the complexity of hardware computation. With enterprises needing to reduce overall costs while simultaneously improving call setup time, the amalgamation of VoIP with SoC can play a major role in the business market. The proposed VoIP Server model with multiple processing capabilities embedded in it is tailored for multicore hardware to achieve the required result. The model uses SystemC-2.2.0 and TLM-2.0 as a platform and consists of three main modules. TLM is built on top of SystemC in an overlay architectural fashion. SystemC provides a bridge between software and hardware co-design and increases HW & SW productivity, driven by fast concurrent programming in real time. The proposed multicore VoIP Server model implements a round robin algorithm to distribute transactions between cores and clients via Load Balancer. Primary focus of the multicore model is the processing of call setup time delays on a VoIP Server. Experiments were performed using OpenSIP Server to measure Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) messages and call setup time processing delays. Simulations were performed at the KTH Ferlin system and based on the theoretical measurements from the OpenSIP Server experiments. Results of the proposed multicore VoIP Server model shows improvement in the processing of call setup time delays.

Intern träningsbelastning under en försäsong hos ett fotbollslag i Damallsvenskan : Förhållande mellan intern träningsbelastning och wellness / Internal training load during pre-season within a football team in Damallsvenskan : Relationship between internal training load and wellness

Glas, Jessica January 2021 (has links)
Introduction: Monitoring football players training load is important, lack of recovery and high training load can result in injury or illness.Aim: Describe internal training load, acute chronic workload ratio (ACWR) and wellness of female elite football players. Investigate the relationship between daily training load and wellness. Method: Seventeen players estimated session ratings of perceived exertion (sRPE) after each football session and muscle soreness, sleep quality and mental stress before every session during twelve weeks of pre-season training. Internal training load and ACWR were calculat- ed using sRPE multiplied by training minutes. Results: Weekly training load for outfield players was 1697,22±632,07AU, for goalkeepers 1570,69±580,50AU. Outfield players total wellness score was 23,58±2,62, goalkeepers score was 21,2±3,35. ACWR was between 0,31-1,30 for outfield players, 0,36-1,35 for goalkeep- ers. Week correlations were seen between internal training load and muscle soreness (r=- 0,24, p<0,001) and mental stress (r=-0,18, p<0,001) in outfield players. Conclusion: The study describes internal training load, ACWR and wellness of a female elite football team. Large variations were seen weekly training load, which could be an increased risk of injury. ACWR can be a guide when planning training load. Internal training load doesn't seem to have a big impact on the players wellbeing.

Improved Internet Security Protocols Using Cryptographic One-Way Hash Chains

Alabrah, Amerah 01 January 2014 (has links)
In this dissertation, new approaches that utilize the one-way cryptographic hash functions in designing improved network security protocols are investigated. The proposed approaches are designed to be scalable and easy to implement in modern technology. The first contribution explores session cookies with emphasis on the threat of session hijacking attacks resulting from session cookie theft or sniffing. In the proposed scheme, these cookies are replaced by easily computed authentication credentials using Lamport's well-known one-time passwords. The basic idea in this scheme revolves around utilizing sparse caching units, where authentication credentials pertaining to cookies are stored and fetched once needed, thereby, mitigating computational overhead generally associated with one-way hash constructions. The second and third proposed schemes rely on dividing the one-way hash construction into a hierarchical two-tier construction. Each tier component is responsible for some aspect of authentication generated by using two different hash functions. By utilizing different cryptographic hash functions arranged in two tiers, the hierarchical two-tier protocol (our second contribution) gives significant performance improvement over previously proposed solutions for securing Internet cookies. Through indexing authentication credentials by their position within the hash chain in a multi-dimensional chain, the third contribution achieves improved performance. In the fourth proposed scheme, an attempt is made to apply the one-way hash construction to achieve user and broadcast authentication in wireless sensor networks. Due to known energy and memory constraints, the one-way hash scheme is modified to mitigate computational overhead so it can be easily applied in this particular setting. The fifth scheme tries to reap the benefits of the sparse cache-supported scheme and the hierarchical scheme. The resulting hybrid approach achieves efficient performance at the lowest cost of caching possible. In the sixth proposal, an authentication scheme tailored for the multi-server single sign-on (SSO) environment is presented. The scheme utilizes the one-way hash construction in a Merkle Hash Tree and a hash calendar to avoid impersonation and session hijacking attacks. The scheme also explores the optimal configuration of the one-way hash chain in this particular environment. All the proposed protocols are validated by extensive experimental analyses. These analyses are obtained by running simulations depicting the many scenarios envisioned. Additionally, these simulations are supported by relevant analytical models derived by mathematical formulas taking into consideration the environment under investigation.

Lärares erfarenheter av läxor som ett didaktiskt verktyg och uppfattningar om internationell forskning / Teachers' experiences of homework as a didactic tool and insights on international research

Sandberg Jonasson, Janine, Steen-Möller, Ludvig January 2024 (has links)
