Therefore we performed: a) characterization of natural soil and crushed ceramic waste, encompassing particle size analysis, Atterberg limits, density of solids compaction test and b) soil mineralogical characterization of natural and ceramic waste through analysis by diffraction x-ray (XRD), and c) evaluate the mechanical behavior of natural soil sample and soil-aggregate mixture through the trials Simple compressive Strength (RCS) module and Resilience (MR). The results regarding the soil-residue mixture showed that (a) the larger the particle size the greater the residue compressive strength of the mixture, (b) the addition of industrial byproduct tends to soil generally, to reduce the modulus of resilience of mixture, (c) the soilceramic waste showed satisfactory results regarding the mechanical performance, allusive to natural soil, (d) considering the large amount of waste generated currently in production of ceramic bricks, one can conclude that this residue has potential as aggregate alternative in improving soils with low bearing capacity.

Rodrigo Martins 26 March 2007 (has links)
Finalmente, discutimos possíveis generalizações de superfícies regradas para altas dimensões / We study the local topology, topological triviality and singularities of ruled surfaces in \'R POT.3\'. In this work we compare the singularities of germs from \'R POT.2\' to \'R POT.3\' with the singularities appearing in the set of ruled surfaces, doing a local topology classification of the ruled surface and study the topological triviality of families of ruled surfaces. Finally we will try to give possible generalizations of ruled surfaces for higher dimensions.

Classificação de módulos de peso sobre álgebras de Weyl / Classification of weight modules over Weyl algebras

André Silva de Oliveira 28 April 2016 (has links)
In this dissertation, we introduce the classical Weyl algebras A = A_n and the generalized A = D(sigma, a). There are some important properties of these algebras, among others, that the n-th Weyl algebra A_n is a left Noetherian simple domain. We introduced the weight modules over A and study the projective weight A-modules. Started the classification of simple weight A-modules (this is, irreducible) by linear category C_O and its skeleton S_O in accordance with. The complete classification of simple weight A-modules is given using the action of certain localizations in the polynomial ring in accordance with. We classify the tame blocks in the category of locally-finite weight A-modules and determine the indecomposable A-modules in the tame blocks. Following, we describe indecomposable projective and injective weight A-modules and deduce the description of the blocks in the category of weight A-modules by quivers and relations.

As 2-álgebras de Lie simples de posto toral 3 / Simple Lie 2-algebras of toral rank 3

Carlos Rafael Payares Guevara 05 December 2016 (has links)
In this work we study the simple Lie 2-algebras of finite dimension, and toral rank 3 over an algebraically closed field characteristic 2. We surmise that the only simple Lie 2-algebra of this type is W(1, 3). So, our main objective is to study the truthful of this conjecture for these algebras of small dimensions. As a result, we prove that this conjecture is true for all these algebras less than or equal to 16 dimension, and also in some special cases when the dimension is 17.

Teoria de homotopia simples e torção de Whitehead / Simple-homotopy theory and Whitehead torsion

Luciana Vale Silva 26 April 2007 (has links)
A recíproca desta afirmação é então conjecturada. Nosso enfoque são os aspectos algébricos envolvidos nesta investigação / This work presents the simple-homotopy theory, developed by J. H. C. Whitehead, with the goal to get an method to classify spaces with the same homotopy type. So, with this motivation, Whitehead introduced the concept of simple-homotopy equivalence between simplicial complexes, that later was generalized for CW complexes, spaces created by himself. An immediate result of this theory is that, if two spaces have the same simple-homotopy type, they have the same homotopy type. Then, the reciprocal statement is conjectured. We will show that the conjecture is not true, but the research about its truthfulness produces a material that takes its own way. Our approach are the algebraic aspects involved in this research

Algumas conjecturas sobre ideais principais maximais de álgebras de Weyl / Some conjectures about principal maximal ideals of the Weyl álgebra

Luciene Nogueira Bertoncello 07 July 2006 (has links)
Seja d:= \'\\partial\'/\'\\partial IND.x\'+ \'beta\\partial\'/\'partial IND.y\'uma derivação simples de K[x,y], onde K é um corpo de característica zero. Doering, Lequain e Ripoll ([1]) provaram que exite um \'gama\'\'PERTENCE A\' K[x,y] tal que o operador S = \'\\partial\'/\'\\partial x\'+\'beta\\partial\'/\'\\partial y\'+\'gama\'\'PERTENCE A\'\'A IND.2\'\':= K[x,y]\' < \'\\partial\'/partial IND.x\', \'\\partial\'/\'partial\'/\'partial IND y\'\'>\'gera um ideal à esquerda maximal principal de \'A IND.2\'. Desta maneira mostraram, para n=2, que a seguinte conjectura é verdadeira: Seja d:=\'\\partial\'/ \'\\partial IND.x\"IND.1\"+\"alfa\'IND.2\'\'\\partial\'/\'\\partial\'IND.x\'\'IND.2\"+...+ alfa IND.n\"\\partial\'/\'\\partial IND.x\'\'IND.n\" uma derivaçào simples de K[\'x IND.1\'...\'x IND n\']. Então, A IND.n\'(d+\'gama\') é um ideal à esquerda maximal principal de Á IND.n\', para algum \'gama\'\'PERTENCE A\'K[\'x IND.1\',...\'x IND.n\']. Nós mostramos que esta conjectura é verdadeira em alguns casos particulares / Let d: =\'\\partial/\'/\'\\partial IND.x\'+ \'beta\\partial IND.y\' be a simple derivation of K[x,y], where K is a field of characteristic zero. Doering, Lequain e Ripol ([1]) proved that there exists a polynomial um \'gama\'\'IT BELONGS\' K[x,y] such that the operador S =\'\\partial\'/\'\\partial x\'+\'beta\\partial\'/\'\\partial y\'\'gama\'\'IT BELONGS\'\' á ind.2\':= K[x,y]\' < \'\\partial\'/\'partial IND.x\',\'partial\'/\'partial\'/\'partial IND y\'> \'generates a principal maximal left ideal of A IND.2\'. In this way, they showed that, for n=2, the following conjectures is tru: Let d:=\'\\partial\'/\'\\partial IND.x\"+\"alfaÍND.2\"\\partial\'/ \"\\partial\' IND.x\'IND.2\"+ álfa IND.n\"\\partial IND.xÍND.n\"be a simple derivation of K[\'x IND.1\',...,\'x IND n\']. Then, \'A IND.n\'(d+\'gama\') is a principal maximal left ideal of \'A IND.n\',for some \'gama\"IT BELONGS\'K[x IND.1\',...,\'x IND.n\']. We show that this conjecture is true in some cases

A tent of blue and souls in pain : creative responses to prison experience with emphasis upon existential and autobiographical elements within selected South African prison writings

Folli, Rosemary Anne 18 February 2014 (has links)
M.A. (English) / This dissertation aims to examine the nature of the unique creative response to the prison experience. Different modes of artistic expression will be analyzed to show that there is no single literary response to incarceration, and to demonstrate the truth of Oscar Wilde's assertion that "technique is really personality".' To this end, autobiographical and existential elements inherent in selected prison writings will be the main focus of this study, since the concern of both the autobiographer and the existential philosopher is with the dynamic, emergent personality. The totalizing prison situation is totalitarian in essence, since this kind of prison regime assumes responsibility for all aspects of the imprisoned human being, its aim being to annihilate the individual self. In the face of this threat, a human being often feels the need to assert his humanity and selfhood. The creative response can provide a means of reinstating the self. The autobiographer, who concentrates upon the 'becoming' self, must needs be a philosopher, existential in essence, in the search for the 'autos', the self, in relation to the 'bios', one's life. This is realized through 'graphe', language, which enables the writer to probe his/her depths and order his/her disparate experiences into some kind of balance, merging past and present. The fragmented world of the prisoner particularly lends itself to creative expression as the writer attempts to impose some order upon his/her broken life.

Cybernetic thinking and share-price prediction

Hartley, R. T. January 1974 (has links)
The thesis presents the application of cybernetic thinking to the central problem of investment analysis; that of share-price prediction. Cybernetics is seen as an inter-disciplinary study (as opposed to multi-disciplinary) in which the barriers between living and non-living systems are ignored. Suggestions from two independant studies in investment analysis are taken tip and a theory of investment is proposed with a view to utilising the suggestions. The theory is formalised using the simple linear perceptron and methods based on logical calculi are used to analyse the perceptron formulation. The theory is then tested by allowing the perceptron to make predictions and the results of these predictions are discussed in the light of the theoretical analysis. Finally suggestions are made for alternative approaches to investment analysis which could lead to better results.

Evaluating Agent Strategies for the TAC Supply Chain Management Competition / Evaluating Agent Strategies for the TAC Supply Chain Management Competition

Allblom, Viktor January 2004 (has links)
The TAC Supply Chain Management game was designed to capture many of the challenges involved in dynamic supply chain practices. To evaluate the game I created four different agents, which operate according to simple but very different strategies. In addition, an advanced agent was created to see if the game was advanced enough not to be dominated by simple strategies. While the game is advanced enough to resist simple strategies, it is so simplified that it will never help solve any real world problems unless it is expanded to include more factors/problems of supply chain management. / contact me at: pt00val@student.bth.se or viktor@allblom.info

A simple and low cost platform to perform Power Analysis Attacks

Carmona, Manuel Bejarano January 2012 (has links)
Power Analysis Attacks use the fact that power consumption in modern microprocessors and cryptographic devices depends on the instructions executed on them and so, it varies with time. This leak- age is mainly used to deduce cryptographic keys as well as algorithms by direct observation of power traces. Power Analysis is a recent field of study that has been developed for the last decade. Since then, the techniques used have evolved into more complex forms, that some- times require a variety of skills that makes the subject difficult to start with. Nowadays it is changeling to tackle the problem without expen- sive equipment; what is more, the off-the-shelf solutions to do Power Analysis Attacks are rare and expensive. This thesis aim to provide a low cost and open platform as an entry point to Power Analysis for a price under 10 USD. Besides that, it is designed to be able to per- form Simple Power Analysis and Differential Power Analysis attacks to a 8 bit microcontroller, including the software needed to automate the process of taking the measurements. Finally, the platform can be extended to cover a wide range of microcontrollers, microprocessors and cryptographic devices by simple insertion in a bread board, which makes it the perfect device for new comers to the field.
