Nem so de salario vivem as docentes de creche : em foco as lutas do Sindicato dos Trabalhadores no Serviço Publico Municipal de Campinas (STMC 1988-2001) / Daycare center female teachers survice not only by their wage : in focus the struggles of the Employees Trade Union in the Municipal Civil Service

Abstract: The central objective of the present research is the analysis of how the daycare center teaching profession has been formed in the middle of cultural resistance movements, taking into account that the teaching concept, sometimes in focus, is much more than the developed work with the young boys and girls from zero to three years old. In other words, the complex teaching political-cultural formation is contemplated in this analysis, through the chosen object Employees Trade Union in the Municipal Civil Service from Campinas, São Paulo, Brasil, which has been seen as a broader educational place, full of struggles and strains, in which the concept of the social classes has been formed. Searching this objective, I focus on this research, the documents of this Trade Union, from the period 1988 to 2001, which ones, most of them were found in the own institution. Besides these ones, three educational magazines and a poetry notebook has been part of this research, both were also published by the Trade Union and they can be found in my personal library. I have chosen these primary sources because they were produced directly by the women and men employees in the Municipal Civil Service from Campinas, São Paulo, Brasil. In this research, I conceive the daycare centre female teachers as culture formers, as historical subjects which have been formed on the working relationships- social classes, gender relationships, ages and ethnic relationships. In this sense, I analyze them as part of a social class. At the same time, I analyze the Trade Union history, through the focus on the times in its structure and organization, putting in first place the analysis on the gender relationships and the early childhood education. I begin the thesis with a letter, in which I bring back experiences lived by me, as a daycare center teacher. I have chosen, at the beginning of each chapter a minute written by the researched teachers, with the objective of contemplating their participation. These written minutes had a special place in the Trade Union documents. At the beginning of each chapter, I also register a poetry written by the municipal women civil servants, as a way of becoming the theoretical presented analysis richer. In the first chapter, I emphasize the Trade Union Institution as a place of the employees struggle and resistance and I also discuss the social class situation of the daycare center female teachers. Then, in the second chapter I focus on the concept of teaching in daycare center, through the bibliography in this area. In the third and last chapter I put into context the Employees Trade Union in the Municipal Civil Service from Campinas, having as the main subject the gender relationship and the early childhood education on the agenda in the institution struggles. I conclude this thesis with another letter, in which I focus the art of improve myself as a daycare center teacher, in the analysis of the research experiences lived in Doctorate. I finally emphasize that I discovered, in this research, that among the demands of these employees, not only the salary was present on the respective agenda, but also, there are so many different demands, such as a better teaching formation, showing us that daycare center female teachers survive not only by their wage. / Doutorado / Ciencias Sociais na Educação / Doutor em Educação

Entre a igualdade e a distinção = a trama social de uma grande empresa / Between equality and distinction : the social fabric of a large company embodied in the working unform

Abstract: The thesis examines the social uses and symbolic meanings which are present in the working uniform adopted by a large steel company, Usiminas, located in Ipatinga (MG). This uniform has the particularity of being one of the greatest symbols of prestige in the region, since all the employees wear it, regardless of hierarchy level or gender (even the president of the company wears it, under a discourse of equality). However, the rigid hierarchy of the company - inherited from the Japanese - points to differences (in position, salary, qualifications and exercise of power). Thus, to grasp the symbolic effectiveness of uniform, in the context in which it was implanted and used, this analysis articulates symbolic anthropology, material culture and social history, restoring the historical trajectory regarding its adoption in Brazilian factories, as well as the context in which Usiminas was constructed, allowing to consolidate the local elite and to rank the classes. In the process of symbolic disputes in urban areas, the uniform was useful to shape behaviors and "civilize" the workers. However, the control that it provides has been transformed into a status symbol. Among the strategies that favor the symbolic transubstantiation, there are the president's performances as "an equal" and the rituals which are richly drawn by the company. In a relational perspective of gender, the study reveals that the steel company was conceived as a locus of men. In spite of that, the progressive female participation in this space and the adoption of a "masculinized" uniform - which at first aimed to control the sexuality - have given new opportunities to women who have come to occupy positions of leadership in the company hierarchy. Following the dynamics of the society, the meaning of the uniform has changed over the generations, involving a mix of prestige, disputes and tensions. Bypassing various levels of the local society, the data show that, rather than an inert material to protect the workers, the uniform materializes gender and class relations, has an essentially dynamic social life, "impregnated" by memories, dreams and achievements, besides being marked by harassment, layoffs, fear and pain. / Doutorado / Doutor em Antropologia Social

Creche de empresa privada = um estudo exploratorio / On site day-care centers in private companies : an exploratory study

Abstract: The coexistence of different social classes within the same educational environment is an uncommon situation in Brazil, given the acute social inequalities in our country; therefore, different social spaces are produced for these groups, that rarely have access to material and cultural assets. Due to this situation, the present research was aimed at identifying what the routine in a on-site day care center in a private company is like and how the interaction vamongst children from different social classes takes place. Through an exploratory survey, a variety of situations regarding the environment at the day care center were observed, with focus on those days when parents meetings took place. On those moments, the children's parents were among others from different social classes including their teachers. Another resource used in this master's dissertation was the bibliographic database on day care centers at the work place; furthermore, there was a visit to a day care facility in northern Italy in order to find empirical data on the historical background of this day care center. Moreover, there was an effort to look for data in Brazilian newspapers about day care centers in the workplace. The final conclusions of this research show that, the relationship among adults experienced by the mothers and teachers of the day care center showed as a tension point the dichotomy between the activities of looking after and educating the children.. Moreover, our research revealed the search by the teachers involved for professional recognition from the children's mothers. This survey also reveals the "competition" between childhood time and capital time faced by children at the day care center in their mother's workplace. The topic of day care centers at companies has so far been little explored from an educational perspective. This research aims to contribute to the construction of knowledge in such institutions, which must attend to not only to the working parent's rights but also to the children's rights. / Mestrado / Educação, Sociedade, Politica e Cultura / Mestre em Educação

Crítica do princípio da melhoria da condição social do trabalhador / Crítica do princípio da melhoria da condição social do trabalhador.

Aparecido Batista de Oliveira 13 January 2014 (has links)
This research aimed to study the principle of improvement of workers social conditions, as a central and teleological element of Labor Law in order to analise relevant aspects for the sociological, historical and legal contextualization of this branch of Law and also to contribute to the development of social justice rationality. Based on the intrinsic relationship of Labor Law with the production capitalist system and also based on the class conflict which is inherent in the previously mentioned system, the role of this branch of Law was questioned as an emancipation tool for the working class or as a tool for preserving the interests of the capital. The purpose of the doctrine of reconciliation of social classes and some of the key aspects of its implementation in Brazil were scrutinized. Reflections of state transformations were analyzed and therefore the right to the principle of improvement of the workers social conditions were also analyzed, based on changes which would alter a liberal regulatory framework into a social one, through the impact of neoliberal ideology and of the restructuring of productive decades. The dynamics of normative principles and in particular the principle of improvement of workers social condition and the analysis of important aspects of its relationship with other central principles of Labor Law were addressed. The main technical and legal situations of application of the principle being studied were rewied from the perspective of Social Law and from the perspective of contribution to strengthening of the working class. Finally, a reflection, under the light of the principle of improvement of workers social condition, about the issues of outsourcing, labor turnover and excessive working hours presented.

A dialética estado-direitos humanos: limites e possibilidades

The many contemporary state forms agree with the speech of protection of these rights, but the State itself is today its main violator. The contemporary age is heiress of the legal and policitical thought of enlightened modernity, in special of its positivist source. Capitalistic social inequality, disguised by only formal equality, reproduces a process of reification of the human being, equalized to mere merchandise. In this context, human rights represent a form of resistance to the system but the mere defense of rights already established, or the search of new rights, shall not lead to lose of sight the amplest and estructural horizon of search of efective equality. Today the fight is to hinder the human rights retrocession, but always inside the limits of State power that, removed the mystifying veil of the supposedly neutral institucionality, it is the power of the ruling classes. In a future social context, not divided in classes and characterized for an equalitarian social experience, the expression human rights will sound as an old and exceeded eccentricity, meaningless, therefore its enjoyment will be daily and truly universal.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Charleyne Biondi_FGV Thesis.pdf: 1367662 bytes, checksum: d28f77f22cfa2df9c598cf0409aae2c6 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-04-24 / The e-business market is one of the fastest growing markets in Brazil, with e-business sales accounting for BRL 14.8 billion in 2010 and a growth of 40% per year (+1000% over the past 7 years). Sales-event clubs and collective bargaining websites are one of the most dynamic segments of the e-business market: the number of new players is increasing rapidly, with over 1200 collective bargaining websites currently operating in Brazil. In that context, growth and differentiation seem to be two key success factors for Coquelux. According to webshopper (23rd Edition, e-bit), growth can be achieved by targeting middle and low-income consumers from class C, who represent 50% of the total e-commerce sales. But Coquelux, which is specialized in desire and luxury brands, has built its reputation and competitive advantage through its 'exclusivity', by targeting wealthier consumers from classes A and B who are attracted by its fashionable and high-end positioning. The evolution (growth?) of this market and the development of its competition naturally raise a strategic question for Coquelux’s managers: can Coquelux grow and still maintain its competitive advantage? Should it grow by expanding its consumer base to class C? If so, how? Consumers from classes A, B or C must be targeted through the same online communication channels. Recent studies from the ABEP/ABIPEME emphasized the importance of social networks as a tool for converting new clients and gaining their loyalty, regardless of their social class. However, high-income and low-income e-consumers do not have the same consumption habits, do not respond to the same type of marketing strategies, and most importantly, do not share the same values. Thus, it seems difficult to expand Coquelux’s consumer base to class C without changing its marketing strategies and altering its image Three options were identified for Coquelux: reinforcing its leadership on the luxury segment and focusing on a small niche market (1), which would threaten its survival in the long run; completely changing its strategy and competing for a mass market through commercial brands (2), which requires major financial investments that managers don’t have access to; or finding an intermediary solution (3). This thesis’ recommendation for the third option consists in focusing on premium brands (rather than luxury) in order to increase sales volume (Coquelux’s most profitable sales happened with local desire brands) with products that appeal to class B but also attract the emerging class C which is looking for brand recognition. It could thus implement a slow entry strategy towards the mass market without damaging its main competitive advantage.

The Broken Dream : The Failure of the American Dream in The Grapes of Wrath from a Caste and Class perspective

Johansson, Therése January 2010 (has links)
The paper aims to investigate the failure of the American Dream in the novel The Grapes of Wrath and the factors that affect it. Thus, the thesis of the paper is that it is the classes and castes of Californian that prevent the Joad family from fulfilling the American Dream. The thesis will be discussed from four focal points of the American Dream: Freedom, Equality, Individualism and Family and Ideal Home. The novel takes place during the Great Depression, a time when many Americans were homeless and unemployed. An attempt will be made to define the American Dream and give a background to it. Furthermore, the binary pair of “self” and “other” will be used as an instrument of analysis.

Race, class and inequality: an exploration of the scholarship of Professor Bernard Magubane

Tanyanyiwa, Precious January 2011 (has links)
This thesis begins with the assumption that the theory of academic dependency provides an adequate framework within which the relationship between social science communities in the North and South can be understood. Present problems of social scientists in the South have very often been attributed to this dependence and it has been concluded that academic dependence has resulted in an uncritical and imitative approach to ideas and concepts from the West (Alatas, 2000). This dependence has also resulted in the general regression among social scientists based in the South and in a marginalisation of their works within the social science community no matter how significant and original they may be. The problematic invisibility of the works of prominent South African scholars is a dimension of a wider crisis of academic dependence, if unchecked this current trend will also reinforce academic dependence. From the nature of the problems generated by academic dependence, it is obvious that there is a need for an intellectual emancipation movement. This movement may take different forms that may range from but are not limited to a commitment to endogeneity which involves among other things, knowledge production that takes South African local conditions seriously enough to be the basis for the development of distinct conceptual ideas and theories. This requires transcending the tendency to use ‘the local’ primarily as a tool for data collection and theoretical framing done from the global north. Secondly, there is a need to take the local, indigenous, ontological narratives seriously enough to serve as source codes for works of distinct epistemological value and exemplary ideas within the global project of knowledge production. Endogeneity in the context of African knowledge production should also involve an intellectual standpoint derived from a rootedness in the African conditions; a centring of African ontological discourses and experiences as the basis of intellectual work (Adesina, 2008: 135). In this study, it is suggested that the recommendations highlighted above can only succeed if scholars make an effort to actually engage with locally produced knowledge. There is therefore a need to make greater efforts to know each other’s work on Africa. This demand is not to appease individual egos but it is essential for progress in scientific work. African communities will benefit from drawing with greater catholicity from the well–spring of knowledge about Africa generated by Africans. In the South African context, transcending academic dependence in the new generation of young academics requires engagement with the work of our local scholars who have devoted their lives to knowledge production. This thesis explores the scholarship of Professor Bernard Magubane by engaging with his works on race, class and inequality by locating his works within the wider debates on race, class and inequality in South Africa. The specific contributions of Professor Magubane to the enterprise of knowledge production are identified and discussed in relation to his critique of Western social science in its application to Africa. The making of Professor Magubane’s life, his career, scholarship and biography details are analysed with the intention of showing their influence on Magubane as a Scholar. The examination of Professor Magubane’s intellectual and biographical accounts help to explain the details, contexts and implications of his theoretical paradigm shifts. This helps prove that Professor Magubane’s experiences and theoretical positions were socially and historically constituted. The research from which this thesis derives is part of an NRF-funded project, on Endogeneity and Modern Sociology in South Africa, under the direction of Professor Jimi Adesina.
