Women's narratives from Jeju Island : a practical theological reflection

Yang, Jae A. January 2014 (has links)
This research seeks to establish a postfoundational practical theology and the corresponding narrative approach to the contextual experience narratives of Jeju women. Its approach helps the readers to understand the co-researchers’ interpreted experience and to open their future narratives. This research attempts to discover the privileged values, themes, and social-constructed meaning of the co-researchers’ narratives. The postfoundational epistemology, which is proposed by Van Huyssteen and the “Seven movements” proposed by J.C Müller, has been used as a guideline. The research begins with the co-researchers’ storied experiences as a basic source of context. The co-researchers' context of Jeju Island has a very unique tradition, culture, religion and history. In order to investigate how they interpret their experiences situated in their own contexts, the researcher not only considers Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutic theory of three mimesis, composed of pre-figuration, configuration, and re-figuration, alongside social constructionism, but also employs Michael White’s narrative therapy theory of deconstruction and re-authoring conversation for delineating thickened and alternative stories. The examination of the research context of Jeju Island, its history of Sasamsageon, as well as its tradition and culture in chapter four are conducted for the purpose of understanding and discovering the necessary meaning of the co-researchers’ narratives and values. In order to listen to the Jeju women’s experience narratives in their contexts, I have chosen four people who have lived in Jeju Island for a long generation. According to the perspective of the narrative approach, an attempt is made to focus on the personal meaning-making that the co-researchers assign to specific events in their lives and on how the co-researchers tell the story of these meaning-making and interpret their experiences. These co-researchers’ stories are to say about their relationship with their families and communities. The stories also include some background of their lives, particularly concentrating on the recent struggles they experienced and their understanding of their own relationships with God. Based on the co-researchers’ narratives and the process of the research, in regard to the goal of this postfoundational narrative research, i.e., looking for the meaning of the co-researchers’ narratives and creating new meaning through discourse, in chapter six, I present not only the interpretation of what they say, but also the meaning and understanding of the co-researchers’ own stories that are developed by means of discoursing with the given context. This research is presented for how to cultivate the alternative interpretations, which allowed the co-researchers to explore preferred views of their futures through discourse and conversation. And then I explicate the three interventions and interactions used for empowering and opening to the better future. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / gm2014 / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Position and potential of service-dominant logic

Löbler, Helge 02 February 2017 (has links)
This work offers a framework for researchers by linking service-dominant (S-D) logic to an intersubjective stream of philosophy of science. Service-dominant logic has resonated in marketing, but no existing research has attempted to link S-D logic with basic meta-theory to provide a framework. Since the range of philosophies of science (isms) referred to in the marketing literature is broad, varying from ‘realism’ to ‘relativism’, from ‘positivism’ to ‘constructivism’ and from ‘structuralism’ to ‘post-structuralism/postmodernism’, first the different isms are grouped into four main groups/streams and then S-D logic is analyzed and classified according to these streams. The four streams are: object-orientation (realism, positivism, empiricism, and so on); subject orientation (constructivism, interpretivism, and so forth); intersubjective orientation (social constructionism, pancritical rationalism, methodological constructivism, and so on); and sign orientation (post-structuralism, postmodernism, and variations). S-D logic is mainly underpinned by an intersubjective orientation and has a huge potential for further development both in and for marketing if seen from a sign-orientated, post-structural perspective and linked to the theory of practices.

Učitelé jako spolutvůrci asistenta pedagoga / Teachers as co-creators of the teaching assistant profession

Pomahačová, Hana January 2020 (has links)
Hana Pomahačová ABSTRACT This master thesis deals with teachers as co-creators of the profession of teaching assistant. This profession of teaching assistant, in our milieu, is a new profession, still not quite established. However, it is a highly important part of the inclusive education. The goal of this work is especially to contribute to a further discussion about the profession of teaching assistant. The work is based on the constructionist paradigm, the profession of a teaching assistant is dealt as a social construct profession and the teachers are seen as one of actors - co-creators of this construction, whose everyday professional lives are touched with inclusion and thus also with the work of a teaching assistant. This means, that the attention is brought especially to the way, how the profession of a teaching assistant is understood in everyday life and which kind of acting comes out of this understanding. The theoretical part is focused on brief definition of basic terms, as the profession of teaching assistant, its legislation framework, inclusive education, social constructionism and other actors creating the profession of teaching assistant are interpreted. In the practical part the attention is focused on one of these actors, namely the teacher of the firs grade of elementary schools. Based...

Konstruktioner av föräldrar till placerade barn : En kvalitativ innehållsanalys av socialtjänstens utredningar vid begäran om upphörande av vård enligt LVU / Constructions of parents to children in foster care. : A qualitative content analysis of the social services investigations in case of application of termination of care in accordance with the Care of young persons (special provisions) act.

Lind, Anna, Åslund, Fanny January 2022 (has links)

The educational difficulties of Korean missionary children on the mission field : a narrative-pastoral approach

Youn, Hee-kyung 13 June 2011 (has links)
This study is a narrative research within the postfoundationalist and social constructionist paradigm which underpin the narrative approach to theology. The present research listened to the stories of Korean missionary children to ascertain their educational difficulties on the mission field. The history of Korean missionary abroad is not a long one. Korean missionaries, having little previous experience, often have difficulty in deciding how to raise their children. They also have difficulty to know the educational options available and which to choose. Up till now there are only a few Korean missionary children who have grown up on the mission field until adulthood. Missionary families face various education options on the mission field, and options are different in terms of each situation on the field. Today, there are up to 12,000 Korean missionary children around the world. Of these, approximately 60% attend schools on the mission fields and 40-50% are at MK/International schools. Most of MK/International schools are mainly based on the western education system, using mediocre English. Yet, Korean missionary children have a different background from Western, specifically in terms of language, culture, society, race and the educational systems they are used to. Most of Korean missionary parents have high expectations for their children’s education with a good academic career. It poses several problems to Korean missionary children’s education. Considering the struggle with education that Korean missionary children experience on the mission field this study aims to contribute towards the understanding of their situation, and thus to help them through their research process. To be effective, this study focused on a small number, specifically five Korean young adult missionary children who have grown up in Africa, currently living in South Africa, South Korea and North America. In order to gain a deeper understanding of educational issues Korean missionary children experience, children were selected from different educational backgrounds. With the co-researchers, individual, face-to face-interviews were held in Korea and in South Africa, and networking has been used when a face-to-face relationship was not possible. The internet phone was frequently used in the research process. The influences of traditions of interpretation over the co-researchers were discussed from the collaboration with them, and alternative interpretations emerged on their traditions through interdisciplinary conversation. Through this narrative research process the co-researchers were lead to understanding and empowerment, and they developed new meanings for their preferred stories for the future. As the narrative approach is open-ended rather than results-oriented, this research is not closed ended, but rather allows for growth and development to take place. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Enochsson, Elin, Sundquist-Boox, Matilda January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to increase the knowledge about men’s violence against women in intimate partner relationship. The thesis is answering the following questions: how does research published within the timeperiod of 2010- 2021 describe and discuss the definition, meaning and extent of men’s violence against women in intimate partner relationship, what theoretical perspecitives and reasons can be found within the research and what does the research have to say about interventions to remedy the problem. Three theoretical perspectives are applied to analyse the data: intersectionality, power and social constructionism. The method used in this thesis is a thematic analysis. The result of this study shows that research do not agree upon how men’s violence against women in intimate relatioships should be understood and conceptualized and that there is a tendency to mix different concepts which creates confusion. The study shows that there are two major perspectives which dominates the field; the gender power perspective and family violence perspective. Furthermore, this thesis shows that there are no exact numbers regarding how widespread this problem is. Though, research agrees upon that tolerant attitudes towards violence and stereotypical gender roles contributes to a high level of violence towards women. Finally, this thesis shows that empowerment- oriented interventions are dominating in the field but is not without risks for women to take part in.

Exploring rock climbing discourses

Potgieter, Stephan Andries 30 September 2008 (has links)
Climbing has been part of human nature since time immemorial, our ancestors used it to escape predators, to flee from flooding valleys, to gather food and to move to new territories. However it was not until the middle 1700’s that man started to use climbing not as a means to ensure survival, but as a source of pleasure and desire to climb and explore. For almost two centuries climbing has evolved through, what has often been referred to as a trial and error method, into a state of the art, modern day sport with various sub disciplines like sport climbing, trad - climbing, ice climbing, free climbing and bouldering. In its purest form it is one of the most awe inspiring sports to watch and take part in, and for those select few that dedicate their lives to it, it is a means to make a living, and a way to live on into eternity. Over the past 15 years climbing has become a widely practised and one of the fastest growing sports around the world, and is practised by people from all walks of life, from pre-primary school children right through to retired pensioners, from unemployed students to the most successful business men and women. With this growing interest among the population there also came a growing interest in the use of climbing for various other purposes like psycho-therapy, rehabilitation, team building. But more importantly, for this study, it has urged the researcher to ask what are the discursive resources and strategies that are employed by modern day climbers, seeing as the climbing community consists of such a large variety of people. This study was done from a Discursive Psychology perspective, and was strongly influenced by the work of Jonathan Potter and Derek Edwards, as well as the work of the Rhetoric Group from Loughborough University. The Discursive Psychology approach focuses on management and accomplishment of action and interaction through talk. Discourse is viewed as a resource that functions to accomplish action and Discursive Analysis focuses on the manner that discursive resources are being employed to achieve certain actions in interaction. For Discursive Psychology it is important to view both the material context and embodiment as important in the construction of action. So too in Rock Climbing are these two aspects very important and very relevant because of the prominence of physical activity in the sport. The research focused on how climbers talk during climbing and what discursive resources and strategies they employ during rock climbing discourses. The most prominent of these resources and strategies that were found in the analysis were laughter, pauses and delays, intensifiers ( words that are used to emphasize and pinpoint other words), loud uttering of words, change-of-state tokens, disclaimers, discourse markers, extreme case formulations, agreement-implicative acknowledgement tokens, hedge words / devices, speech-overlapping, previous experiences, and footing. This research hopes to offer alternative explanations in sport and psychology, by studying naturally occurring conversations between climbers, instead of the more traditional pre – and – post experience testing that has dominated studies in psychology for so long. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Psychology / unrestricted

”Tidigare sköt man i benet för att skrämmas, nu skjuter man i huvudet för att döda” : En kvalitativ innehållsanalys om hur gängkriminalitet framställs i massmedia / "Earlier they were shooting in the leg to scare, but now they are shooting in the head to kill" : A qualitative content analysis on how gang crime is presented in mass media.

Badan, Madeleine, Eriksson, Felicia January 2021 (has links)
Gang crime is a featured topic in mass media and in many cases creates headlines. We have chosen to carry out a thematic analysis in order to be able to investigate how gang crime is presented through a limited selection of articles in the media, for the reason that previous research shows low research engagement regarding the media's message of crime and social disorder. Furthermore, it is also investigated if and how women in gang crime are portrayed in the media because the man is used as a norm in criminology. The study has been conducted with a constructionist point of view that is used as a scientific point of departure where it is stated that concepts and knowledge are socially constructed and therefore not possible to reproduce the image of an object in an objective way. The result was analyzed with concepts derived from social constructionist theory and agenda theory. Previous research shows how mass media chooses to produce publications according to interests, which has consequences for both areas of society and for social groups. To achieve our aim, we have used 14 articles published in three of Sweden's largest newspapers. The articles have been analyzed with a systematic analysis scheme with five themes. We have based our research on the concept of gang crime, the media's effects and norms. The result shows how the mass media constructs different realities through attributes for the public that can lead to prejudice towards both social groups and specific areas which is linked to feelings such as concerns and insecurities in the public.

Sjöstrand, Viktoria, Börjesson, Julia January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to visualize how preschool teachers discuss violence-representative play and popular culture in preschools through focus groups. We aim to provide visibility and contribute knowledge on how preschool teachers discuss and express their interpretations and experiences of violence-representative play in preschools. The theoretical framework of the study is based on social constructionism and discourse theory, which suggests that understanding is developed through social interactions where discourses emerge in the social world. Data collection was carried out through focus groups with a total of six preschool teachers. The collected material was then processed using critical discourse analysis to identify the discourses that emerge in the teacher’s language. The discourse identified through the critical discourse analysis were: Play as processing, Popular culture as pedagogical potential, The youngest and most innocent children, Play within controlled boundaries, Prohibition as a balancing act, Play as an indicator of when preschool teachers need to take action. The conclusion of the study is that violence-representative play will always exist in preschools, regardless of whether it is prohibited or not. As the teachers themselves discuss, children bring popular culture into their play, and it is there for up to educators to determine the significance of play for children.
