Nanocelluloses as potential materials for specialty papers / Use of nanocellulose as potential material for specialty papers

Bardet, Raphael 14 November 2014 (has links)
The original feature of this work is to investigate the contribution of two families ofnanocellulose for their application within specialty papers. It exists two families ofnanocellulose, i.e. Cellulose Nanocrystals (CNCs) and Cellulose Nanofibers (CNFs). It resultsin different properties in suspension and solid states. CNFs with their ability to formentangled network are used as dispersive network for particles. In contrast, the self-assemblyproperties of CNC are used to obtain iridescent films. First, the films based on nanocellulosewere considered as model layers. Then, results were implemented at the industrial scalewithin the papermaking process. It is proposed to use CNF based coating for savingopacifying pigments in lightweight paper, and manufacturing iridescent pigment to impartanti-counterfeiting properties. These sustainable and cost-effective approaches were thenvalidated at pilot scale.

Industrial applications of functional nanocelluloses / Applications industrielles de nanocelluloses fonctionnellesI

Reverdy, Charlène 16 November 2017 (has links)
The aim of this work is to implement new properties to a paper based material via the use of functional nanocelluloses. Nanocelluloses are nanoparticles extracted from wood and distinguished in two categories: Cellulose Nanofibrils (CNFs) and Cellulose Nanocrystals (CNCs). This work has only been carried out with CNFs. The chemical reactivity of CNFs was used to functionalize them with organotrialkoxysilanes. The entangled network and highly viscous suspension of CNFs was also used to synthesize silsesquioxane particles with limited size to impart (super)hydrophobic and antimicrobial properties. Knowledge obtained through the study of model CNFs films was then applied to paper based material coating. The functional CNFs were evaluated for its use in an antimicrobial, anti-adherent, greaseproof or superhydrophobic paper surface.

INTERESTS, PERSONAL STYLES, VALUES, SPECIALTY CHOICE, AND MAJOR SATISFACTION AMONG MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS

KATO, YUKA 01 December 2015 (has links)
This study examined how vocational interests, vocational personal styles and work values impact on major satisfaction and specialization choice of 256 students in Master of Social Work programs from several regions of the United States. Participants completed the General Occupational Themes (GOTs) and the Personal Style Scales (PSSs) of the Strong Interest Inventory (SII; Donnay et al., 2005), the Values Scale (VS; Super & Nevill, 1989), and the modified Academic Major Satisfaction Scale (AMSS; Nauta, 2007). A series of logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine factors predicting major satisfaction, and a series of discriminant function analyses were conducted to investigate factors involved in distinguishing the three specialization groups (clinical social work-health/mental health/special population; clinical social work-children/youth/family; and non-profit organization administration/management, policy, community development). The results supported the importance of person-environment fit (P-E fit) in the membership of the MSW programs, the MSW students’ major satisfaction, and their specialization choices. The results also showed the validity and the utility of the GOTs, the PSSs, and the VS. Beyond three-letter Holland codes, further utilization of the GOTs and integration of the PSSs and the VS seem to be essential. Significant roles of work values of the VS were also noted. Implications for future research and career counseling are discussed. Recommendations for administrators of MSW programs are offered to more effectively recruit students, support their process of selecting a specialization, train them during the program, and provide additional training to professional social workers.

Vybrané formy prodeje biopotravin - specializované prodejny / Selected forms of Selling the Organic Food - Specialty stores

HANZALOVÁ, Dana January 2014 (has links)
The main aim of my thesis on the topic "Selected forms of Selling the Organic Food - specialty stores" is to assess the actual state of organic food sales in specialty stores in terms of assortment, conditions and sales culture. Likewise, this work allow the reader to learn what is the difference between Czech and foreign quality organic food, who is a typical customer buying organic food, what are comments of organic food vendors, etc. Furthermore, this theme is dealing with regional sales or sales of fair trade products. In the end, we design measures that would help to further expansion, for example, sales of organic food. The goal is not to extend the organic food popularity, but to make consumers aware of benefits of buying organic food just in speciality stores or in health food stores.

Lesson Study and the Co-Construction of Pedagogical Knowledge Among Secondary Specialty Teachers

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: Teacher learning in the workplace is situated within a complex context involving the individual and multiple aspects of an educational organization. The present action research study uses a socio-constructionist inquiry lens to further research the local and multifaceted nature of professional learning in schools. The goal is to re-conceptualize professional development away from reductionist approaches that assume teacher practice can be isolated, packaged, and directly transferable into the classroom. The present study examines how lesson study can structure interdisciplinary professional learning to address the current gap in the literature regarding professional development of secondary specialty teachers. Five teachers participated in two lesson study cycles for a period of 13-weeks. This study focused on how teachers co-construct pedagogical knowledge and the extent to which they make changes to their practice. Using a sequential mixed methods research design, this study collected qualitative and quantitative data in three phases. In the initial phase, participants completed a demographical survey and shared a digital ethnography of their philosophy of teaching. Phase two consisted of video recordings for two lesson study cycles. Phase three involved a second survey and semi-structured interviews. Classroom observations were conducted during the first and last phase of the study. All qualitative data was analyzed inductively using open and thematic coding. Cross-case analysis was employed at the analysis stage to integrate data tools for the purpose of complementarity. Results suggest lesson study was an effective, job-embedded model that supports active and continuous professional development that is sustained and transferrable to the classroom. The type of disposition reported and displayed by teachers changed positively over time having transformational effects in the depth of relationships among teachers, increasing co-creation of pedagogical knowledge, and increasing reflectiveness. Teachers' level of openness to learning related to higher levels of effective practices implemented during lessons. Further research is needed to examine the ways in which teacher disposition influences professional learning when secondary specialty teachers engage in lesson study. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ed.D. Validação da versão para a língua portuguesa do Functional Measure for Amputees Questionnaire (FMA) / Brazilian-Portuguese Validation of Functional Measure for Amputees Questionnaire (FMA)

Eneida Ritsuko Ono Kageyama 13 November 2007 (has links)
The aim of the study was to translate a cross-cultural version of the Functional Measure for Amputees Questionnaire (FMA) into Brazilian-Portuguese and evaluate its reliability and validity for assessing lower limb amputees patients. Methods: The FMA were translated, back-translated, evaluated by a multidisciplinary committee and pre-tested. The translated e adapted version was submitted to field test on a study group composed of 44 lower limb amputees patients; their average age was 47,5±17,2. The amputation level was transtibial in 27 patients and 17 in transfemoral patients. The cause of amputation related to trauma in 20 individuals, 17 with vascular insufficiency, four infection and three with malignant tumor. The average of physical therapy treatment was 6,2 months. Test-retest reliability, internal consistency was investigated. Results: the cultural adaptation of the FMA was successfully accomplished. In the field test the inter- and intra-observer showed high reliability; the mean of kappa values was superior to 0,80 and in 25% of the questionnaire was one suggesting excellent agreement beyond chance. The internal consistency for the question about Locomotor Capabilities Index was 0,79 showing a consistency in relation to mobility. Conclusion: the Brazilian-Portuguese version of the FMA questionnaire appears to be culturally appropriate and the adapted instrument demonstrated to be a reliable instrument to measure the functional outcome of Brazilian lower limb amputees patients after rehabilitation.
