The application of research resources in Peruvian sport journalism in the case of newspaper Líbero

Olaya Ravenna, Luis Enrique 01 December 2019 (has links)
In recent years, sports journalism has been gaining prominence and space within the Peruvian media; However, many times the work carried out by sports newspapers has left feelings that a rigorous research work is not really carried out. Following this, it was decided to address the case of one of the most representative national sports newspapers in the current market, the newspaper Líbero. This work seeks to identify if research resources are applied and how they are used in Peruvian daily sports journalism. For this, a qualitative methodology was used and a daily follow-up was carried out for 7 days. Likewise, an instrument was designed based on 3 categories of analysis that allowed us to identify what resources were used and in what way. An interview with the director of the media was also carried out to know its version and to be able to contrast the observations with what the newspaper manager mentions. Once the investigation was completed, it was concluded that Peruvian sports newspapers do present the use of research resources; however, its application is not rigorous or systematic. Likewise, the necessary deepening is not reached and many resources have a partial application. Immediacy is the priority within the work of the sports journalist and its texts reflect this. / Trabajo de investigación

Still on the Sidelines: the Female Experience in Sports Media

Blankenship, Sara K. 12 1900 (has links)
This qualitative study aims to analyze the lived reality of women working in sports media today. Through systematic analysis of 12 in-depth interviews, the findings of this study suggest that the adoption of technological advancements in news media and all associated outlets have created a leveling effect for women due to the demand for highly skilled individuals who can handle the digital demand of modern news production. This study suggests that longtime gender disparities in sports media are experiencing a bit of a reprieve due to the massive digital audience and the need for professionals who can deliver information quickly and efficiently and with accuracy. However, the persistent symbolic annihilation of women as well as hegemonic hiring practices that emphasize aesthetic appeal have created a difficult path for women to move off the sidelines and into roles with more creative and analytical breadth, even with a rapidly increasing demand for jobs in the media industry.

Are Sweden’s men’s and women’s national teams monitored in the same way? : A quantative content analysis of Sportbladets coverage during the football world cups in Russia 2018 and France 2019.

Vramsjö, Robin January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study was to compare how the Swedish men’s national football team and the Swedish women’s national football team are reported on in Sportbladet during their respective world cups. I also wanted to find out the differences in how they are framed respectively from a gender stereotypical point of view. The study were made by analysing all the articles written online at Sportbladets website during the periods of the men’s world cup in Russia 2018 (June 14th – July 15th) and women’s world cup in France 2019 (June 7th – July 7th). The gender of the reporters who wrote the articles were also part of the analysis, to conclude if the different genders are reporting differently regarding the framing. I used a quantitative content analysis as my method to answer my research questions. With this method, I was able to implement an analysis where I found out how many articles were written about the respective national teams, and which articles that were written by which gender. The results of my quantitative content analysis showed that the men’s national team got more articles written about them during their world cup, compared to what the women got in theirs. It also showed that both the women’s and men’s team are written about in a gender stereotypical manner in more than a third of the total amount of articles written. Although, the articles written without gender stereotypes were majority in total, with around half of all the articles. The results also showed that female and male journalists writes similarly about both national teams, with the only significant difference being that, when they used gender stereotypes, female journalists used female stereotypes more often than anything else, and male journalists used male stereotypes. The studie also came to the conclusion that Sportbladet writes in a positive way more often towards the women’s team, which was a surprise considering the historic aspect with female athletes being written about in a negative way throughout most of the 20th century.

“We still have a long way to go”: A comparative study of Swedish and Brazilian women sports journalists’ challenges and perspectives

Holmqvist, Débora January 2020 (has links)
Sports journalism is a traditionally male-dominated environment. Previous research has shown that women sports journalists were outnumbered in newsrooms, had less career opportunities, have been exposed to harassment and must negotiate identity contradictions in order to succeed in their career. Most previous studies have explored English-speaking countries and little was done in Scandinavia and Latin America. This study aimed to analyze the perceptions and experiences of Swedish and Brazilian women sports journalists from gendered journalism cultures perspective, drawing a comparison between these countries. Through qualitative approach, this study conducted semi-structured interviews with seven women sports journalists from Sweden and Brazil and found that there are more similarities than differences between the two countries. Despite the different contexts, Swedish and Brazilian women sports journalists who participated in this study are overall satisfied with newsroom environment, they claimed that women journalists have gained more space, respect and voice in sports departments in comparison to when they started working in the field. However, they also pointed to some remaining issues such as sexist jokes and a feeling of having to prove their knowledge and capability. Another similarity observed was the perception that sports journalism has highly improved in relation to gender equality and, although the challenges still exist, they are less visible now. This study also found that the biggest difference observed between participants from Sweden and Brazil was the understanding of sexism and woman identity. While Swedish interviewees showed a more complex awareness of these concepts, Brazilians participants demonstrated some confusing comprehension, exposing more contradictions regarding these matters.

Arbetsplatsen där männen fortsatt dominerar : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om hur journalister uppfattar jämställdhet på sportredaktioner / The workplace where men continue to dominate : A qualitative interview study on how journalists view gender equality in sports editorial rooms

Johannesson, Jacob January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine whether male and female sport journalists in Sweden differ in their view of gender equality in sport editorials and how it could be achieved. Qualitative interwievs were conducted with seven men and women working as sport journalists in Sweden. The theoretical framework used are Kanter’s theory of tokenism, a theory about Suppression techniques and a Gender theory. The result shows that men and women have different perceptions of how to achieve gender equality in sport editorials. The majority of the female respondents experience the masculine culture as the reason why there is such a male dominance in the business. The male respondents experience the same issue, but claims that the male culture is not that comprehensive as before.

Sportjournalistik, möt TikTok – Underhållning i kvadrat : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys med nyhetsvärden i centrum

Lindberg, Filip, Esmailzadeh Anari, Pooria January 2023 (has links)
Since the birth of social media, journalism has been challenged through an increasing social media popularity. Newsrooms have consequently established a presence in social media of their own. A number of studies have examined the effect of social media logic on journalism and concluded that it makes the the news more entertaining at the expense of informative purposes. However, sports journalism has thus far been unexplored in this regard. This study explores how the already entertainment focused journalistic genre is affected by a move to social media, specifically TikTok, in a news value perspective. It also investigates what purposes a sports newsroom could have with a TikTok presence. Through a quantitative content analysis partly based on Harcup and O'Neills news values, and in light of social media logic, the study examines and tries to explain the differences in news values between the content on Sportbladet's web and TikTok account. The analyzed material is from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The findings show significant differences between the news values in the two distribution platforms, including a majority of agenda friendly, audiovisual and entertaining posts on TikTok and web articles including conflict, power elite, follow-ups and drama. Thus, a split up of news values is suggested: social and traditional. Additionally, two possible purposes with a TikTok presence are identified: marketing towards a younger audience, and establishment on a future main platform for news distribution. The social effects of both eventualities are discussed.

“Jävla idiot, du som ska vara expert” : En kvalitativ studie om kvinnliga sportjournalisters upplevelser på det sportjournalistiska fältet och på fotbollsmästerskapet 2022 i Qatar

Kloo, Wilma January 2023 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to draw attention to and study the prerequisites of female sports journalists in the field of sports journalism as well as their relationship with colleagues, fans and athletes. This has been done through semi-structured interviews with Swedish female sports journalists, where the questions have been based on how they experience being a woman in a male-dominated field, and how they experienced their coverage of the football championship in Qatar 2022. The method of this study is semi-structured interviews with Swedish female sports journalists, where the questions will be based on how they experience being a woman in a male-dominated field and how they experienced their coverage of the football world cup in Qatar 2022. The material is analyzed with Alan Bryman’s model of thematic analysis. Through the chosen analysis method, the data is reviewed and a coding of the transcribed material is carried out, where the coding involves a process where the data itself is broken down into different categories/themes.  The study shows that the prerequisites for female sports journalists are good but not at the same level as men's. The study also shows that there have been major changes in recent years where women are increasingly invited to the field. Female sports journalists still experience questioning from their colleagues and other journalists, as well as rude behavior from fans and audiences. During the World Cup in Qatar, the experiences of the journalists were different and it depended on their role during the championship.

Sportjournalistikens könsrepresentationer : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om hur lokalredaktioners sportreportrar arbetar för en jämställd sportbevakning / The gender representations of sports journalism : A qualitative interview study on how sports reporters at local newspapers work for equal sports coverage.

Peterson, Olle, Lundell, Axel January 2023 (has links)
Historically, sport has been a male phenomenon and this has also left an impression onsports coverage from the media. There has always been an imbalance in reportingbetween the sexes, but in recent years it has been possible to see an improvement froman equality perspective. The purpose of this essay is to find out how the local sportsnewsrooms work for equal sports coverage, and what obstacles and difficulties there areto get the reporting completely equal. To answer the study's questions, a structuredinterview is conducted with three sports managers and five sports journalists from fourdifferent local newsrooms in Sweden, to get their views on the job towards equal sportscoverage. The essay uses four different theories that are used as a basis and help when theinterview answers are analyzed in the results and the discussion. The theories used arethe agenda theory, framing theory, the gender theory and the gatekeeping theory. Theprevious research shows varying results on equal sports coverage. Several studies haveconcluded that there are more female sports journalists who are making an effort formore equal coverage, while other studies believe that interest in women's sports hasincreased after newspapers made a stronger investment in women's sports. The essay uses a qualitative interview study and a thematic analysis to be able tointerpret the experiences and perceptions of the interviewees. The method is best suitedwhen it comes to studying people's behavior and values in society, which fits well withthe essay's purpose. The results show that the local sports editors work daily for equal sports coverage, butthat it is not as simple as one might think. There are a number of factors that emerged inthe results that make it more difficult to achieve completely equal coverage. The numberof elite teams each catchment area has, the inroads of commercialization and theeconomy of the newspaper, as well as old norms and how it has looked throughouthistory are the factors that all interviewees highlight as playing a big role in why thereporting is still not equal between the sexes. This essay shows that the problem stillexists but that it has gotten better, and that hard work is being done to get as equal areporting as possible.

The strong men and the good looking women : Quantitative content analysis of the visual representation of athletes in Swedish digital sports journalism / De starka männen och de snygga kvinnorna : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av den visuella representationen av atleter i svensk sportjournalistik

Sandell, Alicia January 2021 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to examine if the quantity of female athletes is lesser than male athletes and if there are any gender differences in this visual representation of athletes in Swedish digital sports journalism. The thesis also aims to investigate if the visual representation of female athletes has changed over time in connection to the #MeToo movement.   Research questions: RQ1: Are there any differences in the quantity of visual coverage given to female athletes and male athletes in Swedish sports media?  RQ2: Is there any difference in the visual portrayal of female athletes in comparison to male athletes? RQ3: Has the visual coverage of female athletes in Swedish sports media changed or remained the same since the #MeToo movement?   Theories: Agenda setting theory, Framing theory, Hegemonic masculinity and emphasized femininity, Gender performance, Gatekeeping and Media logic   Method: The study is based on visual quantitative content analysis. The empirical material of the analysis consists of 224 photographs from digital sports articles, originated from the two Swedish sports newspapers Sportbladet and SVT Sport. The articles were collected from the digital platform Retriever through a digital article search with the keyword “sport”. After collecting the data, it was processed in data program IBM SPSS Statistics, where cross tabulations were created. The results were analyzed and discussed in order to reaching a conclusion.   Conclusion: There is a higher quantity of male athletes than female athletes in Swedish sports media. There are small differences in the way female athletes and male athletes are visually portrayed. However, these differences show that female athletes are more often are shown in an emphasized feminine way, which contributes to proving the dominance of hegemonic masculinity. There are no major changes in the visual portrayal of female athletes before and after the #MeToo, however the result shows a somewhat equal coverage even before the #MeToo movement happened. The results of the study are partially supported by previous research and theory on the subject where female athletes are underrepresented and sexualized. Slutsats: Det förekommer fler manliga idrottare än kvinnliga idrottare i bilderna i svenska sportjournalistik.
