Sulphur dioxide capture under fluidized bed combustion conditions / Tholakele Prisca NgelekaNgeleka, Tholakele Prisca January 2005 (has links)
An investigation was undertaken to determine the feasibility of increasing the hydrogen
production rate by coupling the water gas shift (WGS) process to the hybrid sulphur process
(HyS). This investigation also involved the technical and economical analysis of the water gas
shift and the H2 separation by means of Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process. A technical
analysis of the water gas shift reaction was determined under the operating conditions selected
on the basis of some information available in the literature. The high temperature system (HTS)
and low temperature system (LTS) reactors were assumed to be operated at temperatures of
350ºC and 200ºC, respectively. The operating pressure for both reactors was assumed to be 30
atmospheres. The H2 production rate of the partial oxidation (POX) and the WGS processes was
242T/D, which is approximately two times the amount produced by the HyS process alone. The
PSA was used for the purification process leading to a hydrogen product with a purity of
99.99%. From the total H2 produced by the POX and the WGS processes only 90 percent of H2
is recovered in the PSA. The unrecovered H2 leaves the PSA as a purge gas together with CO2
and traces of CH4, CO, and saturated H2O. The estimated capital cost of the WGS plant with
PSA is about US$50 million. The production cost is highly dependent on the cost of all of the
required raw materials and utilities involved. The production cost obtained was US $1.41/kg H2
based on the input cost of synthesis gas as produced by the POX process. In this case the
production cost of synthesis gas based on US $6/GJ for natural gas and US $0/Ton for oxygen
was estimated to be US $0.154/kg. By increasing the oxygen and natural gas cost, the
corresponding increase in synthesis gas has resulted in an increase in H2 production cost of US $1.84/kg. / Thesis (M.Sc. (Chemical Engineering))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2006.

The Development of a Curriculum for the Teaching of Dance Music at a College LevelHall, Gene, 1913- 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to set forth certain principals or rules, Which, if adhered to, will be a beginning in the training of the young musician who would make the playing of dance music his profession. Be it understood that this is only an embryonic work and as such it should not be considered a final and irrevocable treatise on this topic. Actual work and development in this field will probably see many of the practices recommended herein relegated to a less important stage while items not mentioned, or perhaps mentioned and treated without undue stress, may come to the foreground of importance. It is hoped that this work will help in paving the way for a sincere and unprejudiced program of training for the young dance musician. However, before venturing into any discussion concerning dance music, it is necessary to have a clear understanding as to what fields of music are included in the term dance music.

Provedení golfového švihu u pacientů s amputací dolní končetiny / Golf swing in subjects with amputation of lower extremityRichtrová, Michaela January 2014 (has links)
Author: Bc. Michaela Richtrová Tittle: Golf swing in subjects with amputation of lower extremity Objectives: The study aims at evaluation of the technique of golf swing used by patients with a different type and level of lower extremity amputation as compared to able-bodied golfers. Another objective is determination of the relation between individual phases of the golf swing and weight transfer, using different golf clubs, as compared to able-bodied golfers. Method: By its topic the work is a pilot study. The research has been divided into three descriptive case studies. The experimental group included two amateur golfers and one professional golfer. The control group was represented by an able-bodied golfer. Evaluation of kinematic parameters (trajectory of shoulders, hips, knee joints) was based on the Qualysis Motion Capture System. Evaluation of dynamic parameters (weight transfer) in the course of golf swing was made using two dynamometric Kistler platforms. Results: The measuring has demonstrated that in terms of both kinematics and dynamics, the mode of movement of a patient with a trans-tibial amputation during a golf swing corresponds to that of an able-bodied golfer. The same results were achieved by the patient also with the use of another type of golf club. A change, both in terms of...

Previous issue date: 2010-05-24 / We started from the idea that sexuality is part of the relation individuals establish with
the world, observing the current appearance of several movements in defense of a greater sexual
freedom and changes facing the different ways of sexuality. The amount of value judgments
inserted in what refers to sexuality goes through the biological, religious and juridical fields and
is crossed by culture and language, bringing therefore a discussion about new/old ways of
sexuality, as the case of Swing. In the face of this, we started to consider that people who choose
living the swing practice not only put in question these values which were obtained by influence
from these several fields, but also raise a discussion regarding the constitution of identity,
besides giving a new meaning to sexual practice. Therefore, the research aimed at trying to
understand how the identity of swing practitioners is constituted, the meaning given by them
and concomitantly how they see the normative institutions and the attempts of influence over
their behaviors, observing if there is or not the formation of a post-conventional identity. In
order to guide our discussions, we used the theory of identity proposed by Antonio da Costa
Ciampa, expressed by the syntagma of identity-metamorphosis-emancipation. As it often occurs
in researches oriented by Ciampa, we also used the life history narrative methodology of study
to answer the questions related to the research. Then, it was possible to identify our thematic
main point, that is, the relation between sexuality and identity, on the interview with the couple
Jose and Mila . By reporting their life histories, they showed the existential course of several
characters who constituted their respective identities until they became swingers. By
considering that the swing theme brings many other inquiries, the research also approached
what is traditionally understood by marriage; the double standard of morality, which is related
to the aggravated differentiation between the sexual roles of men and women; what is
understood by loyalty and the social attributions of followers of the swing practice / Partimos da idéia de que a sexualidade faz parte da relação que os indivíduos
estabelecem com o mundo, tendo observado atualmente o surgimento de vários movimentos na
defesa de uma maior liberdade sexual e mudanças frente as diferentes formas de sexualidade. A

Understanding voter participation in swing states in the United States : A theory consuming study to understand the factors explaining the difference of voter turnout in swing statesBrewer, Denice January 2019 (has links)
This thesis will apply a theory consuming method studying voter turnout between swing states in the United States. To accomplish the theory consuming study, the study is divided into two phases. It will start testing Downs’ rational choice theory and apply this to voter turnout. It will then move on to applying the independent variables, socioeconomic background and voting laws to understand voter turnout from this perspective. The study starts with the hypothesis that Downs’ rational choice theory should be able to explain swing states’ voter participation. However, the research shows rational choice theory cannot explain the voter turnout in swing states. In the second phase, the study tests socioeconomic background and voting laws. These two independent variables better explain the voter turnout in swing states. Being well educated while being well off financially have a bigger impact than what rational choice theory can explain. It does not matter if P is overestimated and C is almost nil, it did not help to explain the voter difference in swing states, even though according to the theory, swing states should vote accordingly. To be able to increase voter turnout in swing states with a low voter turnout, not only does voting laws have to become more liberal, but one law in particular seems to make the biggest difference: the possibility to register on election day. However, changing voting laws are not enough. The largest impact is your socioeconomic background. A high educational attainment and being financially stable over the poverty level are the core reasons for voter turnout. Taking people out of poverty and creating opportunities for all to attend college is where higher voter turnout starts.

COFDM Demodulator for DVB-T Receiver and Low-Power Bus Repeater Design Using Charge Recycle TechniqueTseng, Yung-Mu 07 July 2006 (has links)
The first topic of this thesis presents a bus driver design which is based on a charge recycle technique. The proposed design is mainly composed of a differential low swing circuit and a charge recycling circuit. The differential low swing signaling has been adopted to achieve low power and robust data transmission. The charge recycle is utilized to reduce power dissipation on long lines for the differential low swing signaling.
The second topic is the coded orthogonal frequency division multiplex demodulation (COFDM) demodulator compliant with the European digital video broadcasting over terrestrial (DVB-T). It can recover the frequency offset of COFDM signal and dynamically select the FFT stages to synchronize the start of a symbol. The proposed design mainly contains four blocks : a time synchronization block, a frequency synchronization block, a 2K/8K FFT processor, and a channel estimation block.

Pricing Power Derivatives: Electricity Swing OptionsAydin, Nadi Serhan 01 June 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The Swing options are the natural outcomes of the increasing uncertainty in the power markets, which came along with the deregulation process triggered by the UK government&rsquo / s action
in 1990 to privatize the national electricity supply industry. Since then, the ways of handling the risks in the price generation process have been explored extensively. Producer-consumers of the power market felt confident as they were naturally hedged against the price fluctuations surrounding the large consumers. Companies with high power consumption liabilities on their books demanded tailored financial products that would shelter them from the upside risks while not preventing them from benefiting the low prices.
Furthermore, more effective risk management practices are strongly dependent upon the successful parameterization of the underlying stochastic processes, which is also key to the effective pricing of derivatives traded in the market. In this thesis, we refer to the electricity spot price model developed jointly by Hambly, Howison and Kluge ([13]), which incorporates jumps and still maintains the analytical tractability. We also derive the forward curve dynamics implied by the spot price model and explore the effects on the forward curve dynamics of the spikes in spot price. As the main discussion of this thesis, the Grid Approach, which is a generalization of the Trinomial Forest Method, is applied to the electricity Swing options. We investigate the effects of spikes on the per right values of the Swing options with various number of exercise rights, as well as the sensitivities of the model-implied prices to several parameters.

Advanced pressure swing adsorption system with fiber sorbents for hydrogen recoveryBessho, Naoki 29 October 2010 (has links)
A new concept of a "fiber sorbent" has been investigated. The fiber sorbent is produced as a pseudo-monolithic material comprising polymer (cellulose acetate, CA) and zeolite (NaY) by applying hollow fiber spinning technology. Phase separation of the polymer solution provides an appropriately porous structure throughout the fiber matrix. In addition, the zeolite crystals are homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix with high loading. The zeolite is the main contributor to sorption capacity of the fiber sorbent. Mass transfer processes in the fiber sorbent module are analyzed for hydrogen recovery and compared with results for an equivalent size packed bed with identical diameter and length. The model indicates advantageous cases for application of fiber sorbent module over packed bed technology that allows system downsizing and energy saving by changing the outer and bore diameters to maintain or even reduce the pressure drop. The CA-NaY fiber sorbent was spun successfully with highly porous structure and high CO2 sorption capacity. The fiber sorbent enables the shell-side void space for thermal moderation to heat of adsorption, while this cannot be applied to the packed bed. The poly(vinyl alcohol) coated CA-NaY demonstrated the thermal moderation with paraffin wax, which was carefully selected and melt at slightly above operating temperature, in the shell-side in a rapidly cycled pressure swing adsorption. So this new approach is attractive for some hydrogen recovery applications as an alternative to traditional zeolite pellets.
