Sociální hnutí Pro-choice v Irsku a Švýcarsku / Social movement Pr-choice in Ireland and Switzerland

Mužíková, Markéta January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis entitled "Social Pro-choice movement in Ireland and Switzerland" aims to gain insight into Pro-choice organizations as a social movement in the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland. At first I tried to define what I actually mean by term "pro-choice". I also outlined some of the definitions of social movements and theories that deal with social movements and give an insight into their research. The next chapter is already devoted to the Ireland. Here I present a brief history of the republic, political system, economy, language, religion, and especially the history of the abortion law. In the next subsection about Pro-choice organizations I am writing about the creation and development of Pro-choice organizations in this country. And finally there is also the research part of this work, which is focusing on the frame analysis of the leaflets. The third chapter focuses on Switzerland. In this section are the same chapters focused on the history, politics, economics, language, religion, history, abortion law history, Pro- choice organizations history and the frame analysis. In the last chapter, I compared these two countries from the point of view of the frame analysis, their success and I could not ignore the political and cultural system. Key words: social movement, Pro-choice,...

Mentoring, Competencies, and Adjustment in Adolescents: American Part-Time Employment and European Apprenticeships

Vazsonyi, Alexander, Snider, J. Blake 01 January 2008 (has links)
Based on the conceptual argument that the European apprenticeship might explain cross-national variability in adolescent adjustment, the current investigation tested the relationships between mentoring experiences, namely joint activities with mentors as well as perceived mentoring behaviors by unrelated adults in the work setting, and measures of both psychosocial competencies (job skills, self esteem, and well-being) and measures of adjustment (alcohol use, drug use, and deviance). Data were collected from n = 2735 Swiss apprentices and n = 368 U.S. part-time employees who attended high school. Findings provide evidence that perceived mentoring behaviors by unrelated adults in the work setting in both developmental contexts were associated with both psychosocial competencies and adjustment indicators. Contrary to the idea that the European apprenticeship may provide a unique "protective" developmental experience for youth in comparison with U.S. adolescents who work part-time, adolescents in both contexts benefited equally from good mentoring experiences.

Measurement of long-range correlations in small systems with the ATLAS detector

Tu, Xiao January 2020 (has links)
Two-charged-particle correlations are measured as a function of pseudorapidity and azimuthal angle difference in pp collisions at √s = 13, 2.76 and 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. A long-range structure in the two-dimensional function centered at ∆φ = 0 and extending over a large range of ∆η referred to as the “ridge” is seen in the three data sets. A template fitting method is implemented to extract the Fourier harmonics of the flow and gives the dependence of the harmonics on the charged-particle multiplicities. In this method a rescaled correlation function from peripheral events representing the recoil component plus a cosine modulation representing the ridge is used to describe the whole one-dimensional correlation function. Different multiplicity intervals for the peripheral events are used to extract the harmonics. The results presented show that vn,n from correlation functions can be factorized into the products of single particle vn. Significant contributions from v₂, v₃ and v₄ are obtained and their dependences on multiplicity and transverse momentum are studied. It is also shown that there is significant vn even in the lowest multiplicity bins. In addition, the second harmonics v₂ in pp do not have a significant dependence on both the multiplicity and collision energy. Results of pp and pPb at the same energy are compared with each other in both multiplicity and pT distributions. Both chᵗʳᵏ−chᵗʳᵏ and chᵗʳᵏ-muon correlations are measured in pPb collisions at √sNN = 8.16 TeV. Long-range correlations are studied through template fitting procedure. chᵗʳᵏ-v₂ increases with the number of reconstructed charged tracks at low multiplicity and saturates at high multiplicity. Muon-v₂ is considerably smaller than chᵗʳᵏ-v₂ and only has a weak dependence on event multiplicity. Factorization in both cases works pretty well. Two-charged-particle correlation functions are also measured in Xe+Xe events at √sNN = 5.44 TeV. In the most central collisions direct Fourier decomposition is preferred to avoid negative recoil component that might appear in the template fitting method. vn reaches its maximum value in the mid-centrality region and becomes smaller at both low and high centralities. Results are compared with Pb+Pb events at √sNN = 5.02 TeV showing that vn obtained from these two systems have similar values and behaviors.

Das Bild von Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz in schwedischen Lehrbüchern für das Fach Deutsch am Gymnasium, Stufe 4 / Representation of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in Swedish German books for the upper secondary schoolÄndra

Anjou, Olle January 2021 (has links)
This paper presents an analysis on three German books that are written for stage 4 German learners at the Swedish high school. The analysis was made to find out how often Germany, Switzerland and Austria were presented in the books, as well as to find out with which Themes in the books they are associated with. The following Questions are in focus of this paper: -        What themes are being used to represent Germany, Switzerland, and Austria? -        What are the main themes in the schoolbooks? -        How do the Countries stand against one another?   The results show that the focus is mainly on Germany. The German history between 1945-1990 and German literature is frequently used when depicting Germany in schoolbooks for German class, stage 4, at the Swedish high school. Switzerland is presented through its four official languages German, French, Italian, and Romansh as well as goods such as clocks, chocolate, and cheese. Meanwhile is Austria mostly represented by famous people like Elfriede Jelinek or Lise Meitner. Lastly a comparation of the analyzed schoolbooks is presented. Some themes are recurring in all three books. At the same time, the books are differently structured and used different themes that were more or less relevant.   Key words Text analysis, German schoolbooks, representation of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, High School, Sweden

History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Switzerland

Kirby, Dale Z. 01 January 1971 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis gives an account of the establishment and development of the LDS Church in Switzerland without attempting to record a comprehensive chronological history. Instead, emphasis has been placed on beginnings and major historical developments. In 1850, T. B. H. Stenhouse began teaching the "restored gospel" in French-Switzerland, at Geneva. Proselyting began in German-Switzerland in 1854. Despite mob violence and opposition from the clergy, press and civil authorities, some 9,846 joined the Church and 4,700 of these emigrated to "Zion." The discouragement of emigration, along with new emphasis on missionary work and improved proselyting methods, brought an unprecedented growth in Church membership in mid-twentieth century. This enabled the erection of the Swiss Temple in 1955 and the organization of the Swiss Stake in 1961. These events and the erection of other chapels along with improved press coverage have caused the previously negative image of Mormonism in Switzerland to evolve into a positive one.

The Late Light Show with Long-Lived Particles: A Search for Displaced and Delayed Diphoton and Dielectron Vertices at the LHC

Kennedy, Kiley Elizabeth January 2022 (has links)
The Standard Model of particle physics constitutes the most accurate and comprehensive known description of the fundamental building blocks of the universe. However, overwhelming evidence suggests that the theory is incomplete and that new physics may be hiding at the TeV-scale. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN probes these high-energy scales, opening a potential gateway to access physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM). Long-lived particles (LLPs) arise in many promising BSM theories, but they remain weakly constrained at the LHC. This thesis presents a novel search for displaced and delayed diphoton and dielectron vertices originating from the decay of a neutral LLP. The analysis uses the full LHC Run 2 dataset of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb-1. The search harnesses the capabilities of the ATLAS Liquid Argon calorimeter to precisely measure the displacement and delay of the final state electromagnetic objects. The results are interpreted in a gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking model that features the pair-production of LLPs, with each LLP subsequently decaying into either a Higgs boson or a Z boson. Since no significant excess is observed above the background expectation, the results are used to set upper limits on the cross section of LLP pair-production for signals with an LLP mass between 100 and 725 GeV and lifetime between 0.25 ns and 1 μs. A model-independent limit is also set on the production of pairs of photons or electrons with a significantly delayed arrival at the calorimeter.
