The Practices of Food Financialisation : How abstract becomes concrete in the food systemSavonen, Sofia January 2023 (has links)
The 21st century has witnessed a significant growth of financial activity in the food system. Although these developments have been mirrored with a rise in interest towards studying financialisation, there is still much to uncover of its complex workings in an equally complex system. Many studies have focused on the measurement of financialisation, but less have ventured to assess the practical nature of financialisation: how it spreads, who spreads it and what are its effects for the system it is colonising. This study creates a model to understand these practicalities. To test this model, I use quantitative soybean commodity chain data by the Trase database combined with a qualitative case study on Bunge Ltd., one of the biggest soybean traders and processors globally.Contrary to how financialisation is often treated, this study strengthens the understanding of financialisation as a deliberate process put in practice by the actors and structures in its host system. It is a process inherent to the foundations of the current neoliberal world order and globalised capitalist system, which it influences and is influenced by. To assess the practice of the financialisation process, in this thesis I have created a model that can be adapted to systems and commodities within as well as beyond the food system.

How character gameplay identities are preserved across genres : A case study of Pokémon Trainer in Super Smash Bros.Le Therisien, Cédric, Young-Rogers, James January 2023 (has links)
Deeper understanding of character gameplay identity is crucial for designers in an industry where crossover content is more commonplace than ever. Despite its relevance, however, research in the field of game design has yet to be widely conducted on character gameplay identity. Consequently, this study explores how a character’s gameplay identity is preserved across genres through the use of gameplay mechanics. This was achieved by using Pokémon Trainer as a case study, examining how they were adapted from the Pokémon games into the Super Smash Bros. games. By analysing gameplay and select online sources, we conducted a close reading of the Pokémon Trainer, granting insight into the various mechanics that the game designers use to retain the character’s gameplay identity. We have broken these mechanics down into systems, which we then analysed and categorised according to systems theory, giving further insight into the nature of gameplay systems. The results from our analyses show that understanding a character’s gameplay identity can be adapted through multiple different types of gameplay mechanics, and that systems theory is a useful tool to categorise different types of gameplay mechanics.

“It's just that we have to stand together in society, against the purchase of sex” Methods and Interventions Used by Service Providers Working with Women Affected by Sex Trafficking in Germany : A qualitative study of social services organisations in GermanyAbdi, Amal, Waldner, Relana January 2023 (has links)
This study aims to explore the working methods used by service providers in Germany when working with women affected by sex trafficking, as well as connected challenges and how these can be tackled. The authors used a qualitative research approach, semi-structured interviews were used as a data collection tool. The participants of the study consisted of four service providers working with women affected by sex trafficking in Germany. The collected empirical data was analysed with the ecological systems theory. The collected data was divided into three themes: methods and interventions, challenges, and tackling challenges and desired changes. These themes represented the most important information collected within this study. These findings illustrate trust-building as the most important method to effectively work with women affected by sex trafficking. Besides that, one of the key challenges identified was lack of awareness and misconceptions on the issue of sex trafficking.

If suit people are going to listen. A strengths-based perspective on Indigenous homeless youthTenning, Jillian 24 August 2021 (has links)
Indigenous youth are overrepresented within homelessness and form approximately 20 percent of the total youth homeless population in Canada that uses emergency shelters. While extensive studies have been conducted and new practices have been put in place in an effort to reduce the number of individuals experiencing homelessness, the number of Indigenous youth journeying into homelessness continues to increase. This suggests that the solutions implemented to date have inadequately addressed the needs of Indigenous youth and the situations integral to their worlds.
The purpose of this research was to explore Indigenous youths’ experiences of homelessness that promote positive identity development. It used a community-based Indigenous methodology. Building on research by Indigenous and non-Indigenous academics with the stories of Indigenous homeless youth, this research was centered at the intersection of Indigenous youth homelessness and their engagement in behaviours affected by past and present events that impact their processes of identity development. With its strengths-based lens, it deepens understandings of how Indigenous homeless youth create prosocial outcomes that bolster their self-esteem and encourage positive identity development that will support them in young adulthood and stages beyond. Indigenous youth prosocial outcomes must include holistic health outcomes that encompass spiritual, physical, mental and emotional well-being. Ultimately, this research challenges existing conversations held in society regarding Indigenous youths’ behaviours exhibited in homelessness and contributes to Indigenous resurgence, equitable colonial-Indigenous relationships, and reconciliation consistent with the goals put forth in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s recommendations. / Graduate / 2023-08-30

INVESTIGATING THE INSTITUTIONAL POSITIONS OF WRITING CENTERS: APPLYING A FRAMEWORK OF INSTITUTIONAL CHANGEKirse, Nicholas 01 December 2022 (has links)
In this study, I will first examine the institutional position of writing centers as they were published on starting in 1993 in order to gauge how those writing centers report successfully integrating into their institutions. Once a precursory set of trends and integration factors have been identified, I will then interview current writing center professionals about the institutional position of their own writing centers to determine if the parameters for the successful integration of writing center into their institutions have changed. To better describe and analyze these parameters for integration, I will apply a theoretical framework of my own design that uses systems theory, network theory, and organizational learning to create a more nuanced and critical understanding of how and why these parameters for integration change and what key factors writing center professionals should consider when examining their own writing center’s institutional position and integration.

The Influence of Socio-Demographic Variables On Recreational Trip Type, Trip Length and Trip FrequencyHemingway, Maret Kovask 05 1900 (has links)
To date, the greatest success in predicting recreational travel patterns has been made by the Systems Theory Model. However, discrepancies still occur primarily due to the lack of accurate and extensive information on the socio-demographic variables that influence recreational travel. The research verified the assumption that socio-demographic variables warrant consideration in a recreational model. The analysis indicates specifically the types of socio-demographic variables that influence the various types of recreational travel. Due to a small sample size the results are not directly applicable to the model, however, they establish the types of socio-demographic variables that warrant consideration in a large sample survey. / Thesis / Bachelor of Arts (BA)

Implementeringsforskning och förskolan : En del av specialpedagogens roll eller onödig kunskap? / Implementation Research and Preschool : A Part of the Role of Special Education Teacher or Unnecessary Knowledge?Nordin, Linnéa, Lindberg, Elin January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to contribute to increased knowledge about how and to what extent special educators in preschool describe that they work with the implementation of, for example, guidelines, concepts, working methods and materials. The study also aimed to make visible the collaboration of special educators with other professional roles and how this in turn may affect the work with implementation. The theoretical starting point for the study is based on systems theory. The previous research that was considered relevant to the study is presented based on three different areas: The role of the special education teacher - not entirely clear, Implementation research and Implementation within educational activities. The study is based on qualitative interviews with 9 special educators who are all active in the preschool. To analyze the data and present the results, thematic analysis has been used. The result of the thematic analysis led to three main themes that together depict the informants' description of the work with and their thoughts on implementation. The three main themes that were created based on the data were: Different paths to decisions, The active role of the special education teacher and Implementation in a changing world. The results indicate that knowledge of implementation and implementation processes is important for the special education professional role but also for other professional roles in the preschool, such as the principal. The result also indicates that more knowledge about implementation and how different professional competences can cooperate regarding implementation is needed in preschooleducation. Awareness of how individuals are affected by change is also important for special educators in the work with implementation.
