An Extensible Technology Framework for Cyber Security Education

Cyber security education has evolved over the last decade to include new methods of teaching and technology to prepare students. Instructors in this field of study often deal with a subject matter that has rigid principles, but changing ways of applying those principles. This makes maintaining courses difficult. This case study explored the kind of teaching methods, technology, and means used to explain these concepts. This study shows that generally, cyber security courses require more time to keep up to date. It also evaluates one effort, the NxSecLab, on how it attempted to relieve the administrative issues in teaching these concepts. The proposed framework in this model looks at ways on how to ease the administrative burden in cyber security education by using a central engine to coordinate learning management with infrastructure-as-a-service resources.

The Use Made by LDS Institute Instructors of Statements and Messages of the Modern Prophets in Answering Current Issues of Importance to College Students

This study was designed to evaluate the L.D.S. institute instructors use of statements made by leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These leaders have instructed Church school teachers to teach what the prophets have said and not the teachers own ideas or views on doctrine.The data from this study show the following: (1) Approximately twenty per cent of instructor responses in selecting the stated principles of the Church on a current issue are incorrect; (2) The ability of the instructors to recognize prophet's statements from non-prophet's statements is seventy-three per cent; (3) Over ninty per cent of the instructors use prophet's messages in their teaching and counseling but have no organized procedure; (4) Over fifty per cent of the instructors feel the course outlines are not adequate on current issues, and (5) Ninty-three per cent would like an alphabetized syllabus of prophet's statements on current issues. The main recommendation is that instruction, methods, and materials be prepared to assist the Church teacher in teaching messages of the Modern Prophets.

Denna uppsats handlar om vilka matematiksvårigheter elever i årskurs 1–3 visar och hur lärare stödjer elever med matematiksvårigheter i undervisningen. Syftet med denna studie är att fördjupa våra kunskaper om hur lärare inom årskurserna 1–3 arbetar med elever som har matematiksvårigheter. Vi har i denna studie använt en kvalitativ metod med semistrukturerade intervjuer. Intervjuerna gjordes med sju lärare för att få en förståelse för begreppet matematiksvårigheter och vilka undervisningsmetoder de använder. Syftet med denna studie är att tydliggöra hur lärare arbetar med elever som har matematiksvårigheter. Utifrån våra intervjuer fick vi en tydligare förståelse för vilka problematiska områden lärarna anser att elever med matematiksvårigheter har svårt för. I resultatet framkom det att lärarna använder olika undervisningsmetoder med laborativt material för att skapa en rolig och lärorik undervisning. Resultatet visade även att samtliga lärare i studien väljer att anpassa undervisningen utifrån den grupp elever de har och vad för metoder som passar för elever med matematiksvårigheter. Slutligen arbetar alla lärare för att skapa en inkluderande undervisning genom att anpassa alla moment i matematikundervisningen efter elevernas behov och förutsättningar. / This essay is about what mathematical difficulties pupils in grades 1–3 show and how teachers support pupils with mathematical difficulties in teaching. The purpose of this study is to deepen our knowledge of how teachers in grades 1–3 work with pupils who have mathematical difficulties. In this study, we used a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews. The interviews were done with seven teachers to gain an understanding of the concept of mathematical difficulties and what teaching methods they use. Based on our interviews, we gained a clearer understanding of which problematic areas the teachers find difficult for pupils with mathematical difficulties. The results showed that the teachers use different teaching methods with laboratory material to create a fun and educational teaching. The results also showed that all teachers in the study choose to adapt the teaching based on the group of pupils they have and what methods are suitable for pupils with mathematical difficulties. Finally, all teachers work to create an inclusive teaching by adapting all elements of the mathematical subject according to the pupils' needs and qualification.

Resonemang kring variation i lärandet: Waldorf-, Freinet- och Bifrostpedagoger

The aim of the study is to investigate reasoning about variation in learning, made by Waldorf, Freinet- and Bifrost pedagogues. The focal points are how the pedagogues reason about variation in learning and why they want to use variation. It is a qualitative study, and it is done through interviews with one Waldorf pedagogue, one Freinet pedagogue and one Bifrost pedagogue. The conversation with each pedagogue is complemented by literature that describes and discusses each pedagogue’s specific teaching method.The results of the study are linked to different theories and reasoning by scientists and professors. Two scientists are Ference Marton and Shirley Booth who investigated variation in learning. A professor is Tamás Bartfai who reason about the importance of supporting children’s creativity and the possibility of finding a variation of alternatives, which is done through encouraging children’s belief that there always could be another option or solution. Together with these, other theories and reasoning are linked to the results of the investigation.The three pedagogues reason that variation is created by opportunities and choices, that help children develop their creative sides and to see things from other perspectives. This has a positive impact on the students’ personal growth, since it encourages the student to learn and gives her or him the motivation and curiosity that is needed in order to make learning joyful.

Students’ perceptions of and attitudes to drama in English language education

The purpose of this dissertation is to explore vocational upper secondary students’ perceptions of and attitudes to using drama activities as a part of English language education. Data collection for this project was performed during a teaching practice period at a vocational school in the south of Sweden with the exception of interviews that took place afterwards.The participating students perceived the use of drama activities as something positive.Significant factors in the analysis were mainly the effects of role play, the importance of beneficial group dynamics and the influence of the school setting. A key point that emerges from this dissertation is the benefit of varying lessons and working towards reducing students’ anxiety to speak.

Since reading is a girly thing: A study on boys’ underachievement in reading literacy in relation to PISA

Underachievement in reading literacy for boys in secondary school seems to be a generalnorm in many countries around the world today. PISA’s studies highlight that Sweden also isone of countries that has big differences in between the genders in reading literacy; moreover,the results showed that almost every third boy is underperforming in reading literacy. A lot ofstudies have been made on this subject and the researchers have tried to find the source to theproblem. However, no one seems to have found the solution to the problem just yet.Therefore, we became interested in finding out how teachers can remedy boys’ lowerperformances in reading, in Swedish language classrooms. Through the use of a researchsynthesis and a pilot study, the question whether teachers can remedy boys’ underachievementin reading literacy is dealt by carefully analyzing articles, journals and books. “Keyboard or Pencil?” A comparative study between the use of CALL and non-CALL vocabulary teaching methods

Vocabulary learning is viewed as one of the most important subject in language development. (Rusanganwa, 2012). Therefore, this study aims to raise awareness of different methods used in vocabulary teaching. Those different methods are the use of CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) and non-CALL, the methods that does not require the use of technology. This study presents a literature review on vocabulary teaching methods and the importance of vocabulary. Moreover, it presents a review on CALL and the use of it as a vocabulary teaching method. A comparative study was done between two different schools in a CALL-classroom and a non-CALL classroom both in year five, to observe pupils’ vocabulary acquisition and variation in methodology. Furthermore, two interviews were conducted to gather data of the teacher’s perspective on the advantage and disadvantages of the different vocabulary teaching methods. The results revealed that both methods have some disadvantages but are also rich in advantages if used correctly and adapted to the students’ needs and circumstances. In addition, the variation in methods formed a major role in pupils’ vocabulary acquisition. In conclusion, the teacher should be familiar with the pupils’ in order to help them develop their vocabulary acquisition.

The Relationship Between Teaching and Attainment of Knowledge and Skill Performance by Nurse Aides in a Rural Area

The problem of the study was to determine the relationship between teaching methods and attainment of knowledge and skill performance of nurse aides in rural area nursing homes. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement in skills performance and knowledge gain in the population cited above. The skill to be learned was operation of an electronic thermometer. The analysis of variance used on the pretest for written performance showed a significant difference at the .01 level; however, the analysis of covariance done on the posttest results showed no significant difference, indicating that the initial difference was of no consequence to the results obtained on the posttests. The paired comparison t test of the group means obtained from written tests showed that the programmed instruction group was superior to either the control or teacher-taught groups at the .001 level. Overall the programmed instruction tool was more effective in teaching skill and learning of cognitive knowledge. This report concluded that the evidence seems to support the use of programmed instruction as a means of economically and effectively teaching nurse aides who work in a rural area nursing home.
