Gröger, Steffen 19 April 2016 (has links)

Towards guidelines for TEI encoding of text artefacts in Egyptology

Werning, Daniel A. January 2016 (has links)
The presentation presents the state of discussion for guidelines for TEI XML encoding of Ancient Egyptian text artefacts in Egyptology as of middle of 2016. It introduces Egyptological projects actively involved in the development of TEI encoding recommendations and online thesauri/ontologies. Special attention is paid to the TEI encoding of toponyms, personal names, relative and absolute dates, as well as language varieties and script varieties. Furthermore, the presentation introduces the current state of an EpiDoc Cheatsheet for Egyptology compiled by Daniel A. Werning, which gives recommendations for the encoding of traditional philological markup in Egyptology which, in turn, is largely conform to the EpiDoc Guidelines (v8.21). A specific topic, in this respect, is the adaptation of the TEI ‘regularization’ tag <reg> to the needs of Egyptology.

Veit, Joachim, Richts, Kristina 03 December 2019 (has links)
Starting from the description of the development of MEI (which has to be seen in parallel with TEI) the paper deals with the perspectives of the usage of this format, which was designed for scholarly purposes and, in the library context, has high potentials especially in the header-section. The role of facsimiles in editions illustrates how this format might contribute to a new way of collaboration between the scholarly and the library world.

Vetenskapsakademien / Cataloguing a special collection by the means of TEI : A methodological study performed on the Swedenborg Archives at the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences

Berggren, Maria January 2008 (has links)
In this thesis, the TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) encoding scheme is investigated as a system for storing metadata about manuscript material and 18th century first prints in the Swedenborg Archives at the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences. The aim of the study is to test the functionality of TEI as a metadata system in cataloguing a special collection. Some criteria of functionality are formulated, and examples of encoded catalogue entries are described and analysed. It is demonstrated how descriptive metadata have been registered within the TEI header, while structural metadata have been recorded within the text element of the TEI file. On the whole, TEI is considered to be a functional tool that matches the present purposes. Some weaknesses are pointed to, however: For example, the TEI encoding scheme is not perceived to be fully satisfying for presenting descriptive metadata about manuscripts and prints in the same volume, and, moreover, it is not considered fully appropriate for describing abstract logical text structure in relation to the physical structure of the document. Lastly, TEI is compared to two other metadata systems, the AACR2, ch. 4, and AMREMM. A general conclusion is that the TEI offers a set of guidelines that can easily be adapted to specific needs, while a system for cataloguing in a more proper sense must also contain a set of rules concerning what categories of data are to be included, and in what form it is to be done. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Strategy for developing digital services : EHRIS digitization project

Ruth Cimpa, Barbara January 2012 (has links)
This master's thesis focuses on the development of a strategy for aninformation service in the area of digitization of cultural heritage andresearch, with a web based platform as implementation of the strategy. Viathe platform, digital collections and research are presented and shared.Services around the platform are provided. Support activities comprise thewhole chain of digitization, from digitization to archival of the digitizedobjects. The information service aims for a new approach to combine ICT andestablished research; research and industrial practice were combined andcooperation of participants from various backgrounds was enabled. Thestrategy and organization of such information service was described using a“quality management system”, standard ISO 9001. The development of theplatform followed engineering practices. A guideline for the platform wasestablished as part of the quality management system. On the platform, initialcollections were encoded by the humanities' text encoding standard TEI, thatbases on XML, and analysis with them were done. / Program: Masters programme: Library and Information Science, Digital Library and Information Services
