The competitive industrial scenarios required companies to improve efficiency, flexibility and quality of production systems (RON, 1998). In this context, job scheduling is deemed important to support planning and control of manufacturing systems. This dissertation addresses the scheduling problem in painting systems where setups depend on the job sequence. The first paper proposes an approach to release batches aimed at minimizing the sum of setup and painting costs. The released lots are scheduled using the Apparent Tardiness Cost (ATC) and Apparent Tardiness Cost with Setups (ATCS) rules. When applied to a painting process, the proposed approach increased efficiency measured by the Overall Equipment Effectiveness 32.84%. The second article proposes a modification to the ATCS rule by including a quality related parameter. This parameter is tailored to reduce delivery delays due to quality problems. This new heuristic, when applied to the same painting process, increased the OEE 2.74%, the delivery accuracy 2.11% and the percentage of completed packages at the end of the painting process 8%.

The competition in worldwide markets lead the companies to increase the competitiveness in order to take leading positions in their industries. In this sense, scheduling plays an important role leading the companies to reach their strategic goals through efficient utilization of manufacturing resources. This dissertation focuses on the scheduling unrelated parallel machines with sequence dependent setup times. First goal is to minimize the completion time and total weighted tardiness, through a three phase heuristic which (i) sort the jobs with WSPT, (ii) allocate the jobs to the machines and (iii) improve final solution with Tabu Search. Once applied to a real manufacturing environment composed by two unrelated parallel machines, in high vacuum plastic films metallisation process, the heuristic results in 1.1% of deviation from total weighted completion time and 4.6% of deviation from weighted tardiness, in relation to the optimal solution obtained from total enumeration. Next goal is the simultaneous minimization of weighted earliness and tardiness, through a three phase heuristic which (i) characterize the jobs, (ii) allocate the jobs to the machines with a modified version of Lee and Pinedo’s (1997) ATCS and (iii) improve final solution with Tabu Search. The application in real data results in 14% of deviation from the optimal solution obtained by enumeration. When applied to simulated scenarios of due date, processing and setup time, the heuristic results in average deviation of 18% from optimal solution obtained by enumeration to at least 70% of the simulations.

Enquanto a aula acontece... práticas juvenis (des)ordenando espaços e tempos escolares contemporaneosSevero, Rita Cristine Basso Soares January 2014 (has links)
This thesis has as its central interest the youth cultural practices in school spaces and times of two public schools in Porto Alegre. Taking such practices as a starting point to think about the meanings of contemporary schooling and the constitution of the identity of contemporary subjects - young – students I conducted my analysis from the following question: How youth practices, besides being reconfiguring spaces and school times, can produce the school, teachers and contemporary subjects - young - students ? Thus, this research is mainly aimed to analyze youth practices that occur in space and school time questioning the relationships that occur between subjects - young - students and rituals instituted by the school. Entered in the field of Cultural Studies , seek links with the field of studies on Youth and the field of anthropology, ethnography specifically under inspiration from authors such as Geertz , Clifford Gottschalk and whose works are in the postmodern anthropological current call. To thematize on youths, dialogue with the ideas of the authors and Urresti Margulis , Reguillo , Garbin , Canevacci , parents , among others . They point out that there is no single way to be young, but youths who vary according to social class , where the generations to which they belong and live cultural diversity . To weave my remarks about the school , I refer to studies of Aries , Varela and Uria , Dubet , Narodovisky Rock Veiga - Neto , Sacristan , Ramos do Ó , Xavier , Sibilia , among others . Thus, it was possible to consider throughout this research that the different dimensions of juvenile condition and are mediated embricadas the categories of space and time . Young people tend to transform physical spaces into social space for the production of particular structures of meaning. A perceived throughout the study , example was the sense that young people attach to them escola.Para school appears as a place of emotional and symbolic interactions , loaded with meanings . They point to the school as a privileged place , the place of sociability , or even the stage for expression of culture that elaborate , a reinvention of spaces and times of recreation , the corridors , the courtyard and even the classroom . Thus , I can infer that the tensions existing negotiations between the subjects who inhabit the school produce other meanings of school, teacher and student nowadays.

ensino fundamental. A problemática central esteve voltada para o campo do cotidiano
No
no dia a dia.
No entanto, no campo educativo, sentimos a
colaborativa. / ABSTRACT The current work seeks to think over about the practices that are developing since the
arrival of digital mobile technologies in the day-to-day of three public elementary
schools. The central problematic is directed towards the day-to-day of the school field,
sorely marked by strategies that come from instances of power and tactics developed by
the interagents/practitioners. In the domain of strategies the government sends to the
public schools network programs and projects that insert mobile digital devices without
a more careful thought about the specificities of these technologies, without thoughts
about the infrastructure of schools, mainly concerning if the school has access to
broadband internet or not. Moreover there is no clear proposal about the role of the
insertion of these technologies in education. In the domain of tactics there is the school
and it ́s interagents/practitioners that confronted with limited devices, precariousness of
all sorts of infrastructure, lack of comprehension of the importance of the insertion of
these technologies for the educational field and lack of training that contemplates
structuring aspects of this process, end up producing or reproducing practices with what
is sent to them or with what they have at disposal. Therefore, the general objective of
this work is to comprehend how the practitioners of this day-to-day in school redesigned
their concepts and practices since the insertion of the digital mobile technologies,
identifying if there was a movement towards the construction of new territories by the
practitioners, based on the day-to-day of school, potentiated by these technologies. The
methodology has as one of its main characteristics the search of ways to potentiate the
thought about the investigated study field, and for such a goal, searched a more open
referential that makes possible ways to comprehend this day-to-day from its complexity.
One of our tactics was calling the interagents/practitioners for interviews. All the
interviews were done informally in a way the interviewed could talk about day-to-day
work, his or her anxieties, problematic that emerged day-to-day and the tactics used
when confronted to the emergency of mobile technologies that occur in the day-to-day.As a result, the research points to the creation of territories where digital passes to be
structuring practices in the construction of content and knowledge with collaborative
potential. The times/spaces of the school day-to-day are amplified when the
interagents/practitioners and the schools are inserted in the digital context of networks,
when integration among students, professors and schools in the digital environment are
promoted, or yet, when the necessity of digital content construction needs other
rhythms, other processes, or other relations for its effectiveness. We realize that the
arrival of digital mobile technologies in schools, the ones sent by the government or
those brought by students hands, strengthens and boosts inside the schools social
practices that are in process in society in a general way. However, in the educational
field, it is felt the necessity of a bigger investment in more integrated politics that ensure
infrastructure in the schools, mainly broadband, and investments so that professors are
more stregthened theoretically and critically to develop their own projects and build free
knowledge, in a critical, creative, ethical and collaborative way.

This research aimed at to investigate the process of inserting music as a curriculum subject in a full-time public school. More specifically, it aimed at: to examine the conceptions of the school community’s members about the practices of school music education; to identify the different musical and musical educational practices developed in/by the school; to understand the contributions of music teaching to the development of an integrated curriculum; and to understand the relationships between music teaching and the school project of holistic education. A qualitative case study with a public state school of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil was carried out. This school is one of schools that are part of the Integrated Public School Project (EPI), in Santa Catarina. Data were collected through observation, semistructured interviews and analysis of written documents. Data analysis was developed by means of establishing a set of categories related to the insertion of music subject in the school curriculum, focusing the occupation of the school “space” and the constitution the “place” of music at school, as well as the schooling process of music. The theoretical framework was constituted by the concept of “school times” elaborated by Gimeno Sacristán (2008), as well as by concepts of full-time education, holistic education and integrated curriculum. Results show that, by analyzing the process of inserting music as a curriculum subject from the perspective of the “school times”, it was possible to understand how happened the confirmation of music in the curriculum of the school, contributing to the conquest of the rightful place of music as a school subject.

Consequences of Short Term Mobility Across Heterogeneous Risk Environments: The 2014 West African Ebola OutbreakJanuary 2018 (has links)
abstract: In this dissertation the potential impact of some social, cultural and economic factors on
Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) dynamics and control are studied. In Chapter two, the inability
to detect and isolate a large fraction of EVD-infected individuals before symptoms onset is
addressed. A mathematical model, calibrated with data from the 2014 West African outbreak,
is used to show the dynamics of EVD control under various quarantine and isolation
effectiveness regimes. It is shown that in order to make a difference it must reach a high
proportion of the infected population. The effect of EVD-dead bodies has been incorporated
in the quarantine effectiveness. In Chapter four, the potential impact of differential
risk is assessed. A two-patch model without explicitly incorporate quarantine is used to
assess the impact of mobility on communities at risk of EVD. It is shown that the
overall EVD burden may lessen when mobility in this artificial high-low risk society is allowed.
The cost that individuals in the low-risk patch must pay, as measured by secondary
cases is highlighted. In Chapter five a model explicitly incorporating patch-specific quarantine
levels is used to show that quarantine a large enough proportion of the population
under effective isolation leads to a measurable reduction of secondary cases in the presence
of mobility. It is shown that sharing limited resources can improve the effectiveness of
EVD effective control in the two-patch high-low risk system. Identifying the conditions
under which the low-risk community would be willing to accept the increases in EVD risk,
needed to reduce the total number of secondary cases in a community composed of two
patches with highly differentiated risks has not been addressed. In summary, this dissertation
looks at EVD dynamics within an idealized highly polarized world where resources
are primarily in the hands of a low-risk community – a community of lower density, higher
levels of education and reasonable health services – that shares a “border” with a high-risk
community that lacks minimal resources to survive an EVD outbreak. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Applied Mathematics 2018

MODELAGEM E PREVISÃO POR MEIO DE METODOLOGIA BOX&JENKINS: UMA FERRAMENTA DE GESTÃO / MODELING AND FORECAST BY MEANS OF BOX & JENKINS METHODOLOGY: A MANAGEMENT TOOLKirchner, Rosane Maria 11 December 2006 (has links)
Independently of the company size it is necessary to establish goals, parameters and strategies. It is important to have guidance, a plan that conducts the actions for the
present as a way to reach the goals for the future. Moreover, the planning of the company requires organization, controls, tools which assist helpful favor the decisionmaking and the necessary reconducts. The modeling and consequently the forecast are indispensable tools for the management, such, proves it contribution of the Box & Jenkins methodology. The market is highly competitive and selective, demanding not
only efficiency, but mainly effectiveness. Actions directed to the magnifying of the quality of an organization are as important as the capacity to foresee, to know, to measure and to analyze the resolutivity of the used methodologies. In this context this present research is realized, searching to know the behavior of the company invoicing from an agricultural company and its two branch offices, molding and, in such a way, allowing putting into practice forecasts. Thus, the methodology applied consists of the use of historical data from the invoicing of the same ones. For the Main company, of Beta Company was found an ARMA(1,1) model, being this the most parsimonious. In CB Branch office the SARIMA (1,0,0) * (2,0,0) was the model that better described the data and in SL Branch office, the model SARIMA (1,0,0) *
(1,0,0). Realizing the forecast and comparing with the real data placed by the company, it was verified the efficiency of the model, being that all the values meet up with the confidence interval of 95%. Taking into base the results gained in this research, it is possible to affirm that the methodology used constitutes of an important tool, being able to be used by the managers of the respective companies,
supplying subsidies to the planning of the following months.
A modelagem e

The aim of this study is to identify IF the economic growth in Brazil over the long term has been somewhat restricted by the Balance of Payments. The research questions that guide this work can be expressed as follows: the economic growth of Brazil in the period marked between the years 1951 to 2008 is restricted by the Balance of Payments? To answer this question we work with the approach of external sector restricted growth proposed, among others, by Lima and Carvalho (2009). Regarding the statistical tests, we used the method of the Vector Error Correction (VEC). We conclude that for the period studied the rate of economic growth in Brazil was restricted by the external sector, confirming the theory about the approach of external sector restricted growth, in relations to the economic history of Brazil
