abstract: Efficient separation techniques for organelles and bacteria in the micron- and sub-micron range are required for various analytical challenges. Mitochondria have a wide size range resulting from the sub-populations, some of which may be associated with diseases or aging. However, traditional methods can often not resolve within-species size variations. Strategies to separate mitochondrial sub-populations by size are thus needed to study the importance of this organelle in cellular functions. Additionally, challenges also exist in distinguishing the sub-populations of bio-species which differ in the surface charge while possessing similar size, such as Salmonella typhimurium (Salmonella). The surface charge of Salmonella wild-type is altered upon environmental stimulations, influencing the bacterial survival and virulence within the host tissue. Therefore, it is important to explore methods to identify the sub-populations of Salmonella. This work exploits insulator-based dielectrophoresis (iDEP) for the manipulation of mitochondria and Salmonella. The iDEP migration and trapping of mitochondria were investigated under both DC and low-frequency AC conditions, establishing that mitochondria exhibit negative DEP. Also, the first realization of size-based iDEP sorting experiments of mitochondria were demonstrated. As for Salmonella, the preliminary study revealed positive DEP behavior. Distinct trapping potential thresholds were found for the sub-populations with different surface charges. Further, DEP was integrated with a non-intuitive migration mechanism termed absolute negative mobility (ANM), inducing a deterministic trapping component which allows the directed transport of µm- and sub-µm sized (bio)particles in microfluidic devices with a nonlinear post array under the periodic action of electrokinetic and dielectrophoretic forces. Regimes were revealed both numerically and experimentally in which larger particles migrate against the average applied force, whereas smaller particles show normal response. Moreover, this deterministic ANM (dANM) was characterized with polystyrene beads demonstrating improved migration speed at least two orders of magnitude higher compared to previous ANM systems with similar sized colloids. In addition, dANM was induced for mitochondria with an AC-overlaid waveform representing the first demonstration of ANM migration with biological species. For all growth phases of peanut crop, the incident, reflected and transmitted photosynthetically active radiations were monitored, as well as the weekly production of the accumulated biomass, chemical energy, including roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds, with purpose of determining the radiation use efficiency and the radiation conversion efficiency of intercepted PAR for the cultivated plants. The results showed that EUR was about 1,33 g MJ-1 and ECR was about 2,5%. The values are coherent with those found in literature. In Botucatu conditions, the peanut crop intercepted, more or less 600 MJ m-2 of PAR, so that in the end of cycle, the biomass energy reached to 18 MJ m-2. In standard terms, the light extinction coefficient (k) was about 0.68, the harvest index, in energy basis, was about 0.38 and peanut yield, in peel, was equivalent to 4.5 t ha-£.

It (art) announces the reconciliation between spirit and nature, matter and form by means of the possibility of uniting these pairs of dimensions into the Content expressed in artistic productions. Thus, by means of the contemplation of beauty in art, the finite spirit comes to the possibility of rising to the infinite sphere and of unfolding the consciousness of liberty, and the freedom of knowledge. Therefore, the basis of our investigation entails the issue of art that is understood as a borderline between the finite sphere and the infinite field. / Ao propormos uma reflexão sobre a temática arte e liberdade, segundo o pensamento hegeliano, no que concerne ao primeiro volume dos Cursos de Estética, temos como finalidade, lançar uma discussão a respeito do modo como Hegel afirma a arte enquanto expressão da liberdade, já que por meio dela o Absoluto se manifesta na finitude. Ela anuncia a reconciliação entre espírito e natureza, matéria e forma, mediante a possibilidade de unir essas duas dimensões no Conteúdo por ela expresso em suas produções artísticas. Assim, mediante a contemplação do belo na arte o espírito finito encontra a possibilidade de ascender à esfera do infinito e desvelar a consciência da liberdade, o saber que se sabe livre. Sendo assim, o fio condutor de nossa investigação, versa sobre a problemática da arte, compreendida como uma instância fronteiriça situada entre a finitude e o domínio do infinito.

Introdução: O transplante de células tronco hematopoiéticas é capaz de curar as doenças hematológicas. O papel da repopulação linfocitária precoce no período pós transplan te visa combater a células neoplásicas que resistiram ao regime de condicionamento e prevenir as infecções oportunistas graves. Sendo assim, uma contagem elevada de linfócitos no período pós transplante é capaz de reduzir a mortalidade relacionada ao transplante (TRM), melhorar a sobrevida livre de doença e reduzir a taxa de recidiva. Objetivos: Avaliar a recuperação linfocitária precoce no D+21 e D+30 pós transplante correlacionado com a taxa de recidiva da doença de base, mortalidade, sobrevida global e livre de doença. Analisar a freqüência das complicações infecciosas neste período. Métodos: Analisado o número absoluto de linfócitos no D+21 e D+30 pós transplante de células tronco hematopoiéticas. Conforme dados da literatura definiu-se no D+21 e no D+30 aqueles com número absoluto de linfócitos abaixo e acima de 300 e se correlacionou os dados obtidos com a taxa de óbito, taxa de recidiva, sobrevida global em 5 anos, sobrevida livre de doença, em 5 anos, TRM em 100 dias. e mortalidade não relacionada a recaída (NRM). Resultados: Neste estudo foram incluídos 100 pacientes portadores das seguintes neoplasias hematológicas: leucemia mielóide aguda, leucemia linfocítica aguda, leucemias secundárias e síndrome mielodisplásica. Destes, 55 pacientes eram do sexo masculino e 45 do sexo feminino. A média de idade foi de 27,9 anos (mínima 9 meses e máxima 55 anos). A mediana do tempo de seguimento foi de 601 dias (IC 95% 106-1845). A mediana de CD 34 infundidos foi de 4,0 (IC 95% 2,4-5,7) e quanto a origem destas células CD 34 infundidas 85% foram de medula óssea (MO), 12% periférica (PBSC) e 3% sangue de cordão umbilical (SCU). Quanto ao tipo de condicionamento realizado 22% foram não mieloablativos e 78% mieloablativos.A mediana de linfócitos no D+21 foi de 460 (IC 95% 0 - 6250) e no D+30 foi de 760 (IC 95% 40-6370). Com relação a taxa de infecções observou-se que 19% das infecções foram de etiologia viral, 65 % bacteriana e 17% fúngicas. A sobrevida global (OS) em 5 anos foi de 44 % , sobrevida livre de doença (DFS) foi de 37,7% , a mortalidade relacionada ao transplante (TRM) em 100 dias foi de 32,5%. E a mortalidade não relacionada a recidiva (NRM) em 5 anos foi de 40,2%. No desfecho óbito observamos que 69% dos pacientes que foram a óbito no D+21 tinham linfócitos abaixo de 300, e 43,9% tinham linfócitos acima de 300 (p<0,05). Pacientes com valores menores que 300 no dia 30 tem 2,20 vezes o risco de irem a óbito quando comparados com aqueles com valores acima de 300 (IC 95% 1,03-4,69) ajustado para DECH e CD34. Pacientes com valores menores que 300 no dia 30 tem 3,76 vezes o risco de irem a óbito em menos de 100 dias quando comparados com aqueles com valores acima de 300 (IC 95% 1,23-11,46) Conclusões: A reconstituição linfocitária precoce (> 300) no D+21 e no D+30 melhora a sobrevida global e livre de doença, bem como reduz a taxa de recidiva da doença de base e reduz a mortalidade. / Background: The role of repopulating lymphocyte after allogenic stem cell transplantation (SCT) includes the prevention of serious infections and attacking residual tumor cells in the early post transplant phase. Therefore, the current study analysed the role of the absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) on day 21 and 30 after SCT in predicting transplant outcomes of patients in terms of the risk of transplant related mortality (TRM) recurrence of original disease and risk of opportunistic infections. Objective: Evaluate early lymphocyte recovery on D +21 and D +30 posttransplant correlated with the rate of recurrence of the underlying disease, mortality, overall survival and disease free survival. Analyzed the frequency of infectious complications in this period. Methods: Analyzed the absolute lymphocyte count in the D +21 and D +30 after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. According to literature data set the we correlate the absolute lymphocyte count in the D +21D +30 below and above 300 these data with the rate of death, relapse rate, overall survival in 5 years, disease-free survival in 5 years , TRM in 100 days and mortality unrelated to relapse (NRM). Results : Included in the study 100 patients with the following hematologic malignancies: acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, secondary leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome. Of these, 55 patients were male and 45 female. The average age was 27.9 years (minimum 9 months and maximum 55 years). The median follow-up was 601 days (95% CI 106-1845). The CD 34 median that was infused was 4.0 (95% CI 2.4 to 5.7).The source of stem cells infused was 85% of bone marrow (BM), peripheral 12% (PBSC) and 3 % of umbilical cord blood (UCB). Regarding the type of conditioning performed 22% were non myeloablative and 78% of lymphocytes were mieloablativos. The median of absolute lymphocyte count in the D +21 was 460 (95% CI 0 to 6250) and D +30 was 760 (95% CI 40- 6370 ). Regarding the rate of infections were observed 19% viral infections , bacterial in 65% and fungal in 17%. Overall survival (OS) at 5 years was 44%, disease-free survival (DFS) was 37.7%, transplant related mortality (TRM) in 100 days was 32.5%. Non relapsed mortality (NRM) at 5 years was 40.2%. The death rate found that 69% of patients who died at the D +21 had presented lymphocytes count below 300, and 43.9% were above 300 lymphocytes (p <0.05). Patients with counts less than 300 in D+30 presented 2.20 times risk of death when compared with those who presented values above 300 (95% CI 1.03 to 4.69) adjusted for GVHD and CD34. Patients presenting values less than 300 in 30 days have 3.76 times more risk of death in less than 100 days compared with those with values above 300 (95% CI 1.23 to 11.46). Conclusions: The early lymphocyte reconstitution (> 300) in D +21 D +30 improves overall survival and disease-free and reduces the relapse rate of the underlying disease and reduces mortality.

The basic principles of relative and absolute chronology are presented in this introduction as they form the foundation upon which the collection of papers, published in the present and subsequent issue of the Bulletin, base their chronological and cultural schemes. The goal here is to compare and contrast these principles with common misunderstandings and misuses. The need for empirical data for the construction of chronological sequences is stressed in order to place them within a single periodification scheme. Another topic of concern is a coherent terminology rather than the use of different terms with different meanings. Lastly, the papers in these two issues are focused on "The Formative Period: Recent Approaches and Evidence". / En esta introducción se presentan los principios de la cronología relativa y absoluta, ya que estos forman la base para el conjunto de trabajos reunidos en este y el siguiente número del Boletín, con el propósito de señalar malentendidos y usos poco precisados heredados de antaño. Se enfatiza la necesidad de exponer los datos empíricos en la construcción de las cronologías y secuencias para insertarlas en un sistema de periodización general. Parte de esta discusión es, también, la terminología, que debería destacarse por su coherencia en vez de que se cuente con opciones más o menos libres de expresiones con significados diversos. Por último, se presentan los trabajos incluidos en los dos números dedicados al tema "El Periodo Formativo: enfoques y evidencias recientes".

Através da noção de Abfall, de Schelling, apresentada no texto Filosofia e Religião (1804), esta tese procura mostrar a integralidade da fundamentação objetiva para a reconstrução do mundo ideal, ou do ideal da razão enquanto organismo vivo. Para tanto, num primeiro momento, reconstruiremos o caminho para o Sistema do Idealismo Transcendental e, com isso, apresentaremos a dialética da imaginação como forma sistemática do Eu enquanto princípio. Num segundo momento, mostraremos como essa forma sistemática é ampliada enquanto princípio ou como uma forma formante de sujeito e objeto no Absoluto. Num terceiro e conclusivo momento, mostraremos a fundamentação da essência da identidade alma-Absoluto na intuição intelectual, entendida como princípio e conhecimento que supera infinitamente toda determinação conceitual e, ao mesmo tempo, efetiva o princípio transcendental e a causa imanente da equipossibilidade volitiva e cognitiva do puro sujeitoobjeto. / Through Schellings notion of Abfall as presented in Philosophy and Religion (1804), this thesis seeks to show the integrality of the objective foundation of the ideal world\'s reconstruction or of the ideal of reason as a living organism, so that the finite, as it exists in the limitated and temporal world, presents itself in a way somehow infinite. It aims at the difficult that pervades the author\'s whole philosophy of identity: the problem of the sense of finitude and time sense in a philosophy where the Absolute does not go out of itself. Our thesis is that: if the reason ideal is the most distant of what can be determined, and if it realises itself just in individuo, then such realization is necessarily something universal in two vectors of only one action: on the one hand ideas are determined in individuo if and only if in the unity of the ideal of reason; on the other hand, ideas are determined in individuo by absolute freedom, because the Absolute refers to the producing individual through the eternal concept of individual; in other words, through the soul understood as a Potenz, that is protected inside subject of individual conscience. As a Potenz, the soul is unconditional freedom and as such the source of the concepts of class. Therefore well reconstruct the route to the System of Transcendental Idealism to show the dialectics of imagination as a systematic form of I as a principle. Secondly, well show how that systematic form is extended as a principle or a form forming the subject and object in the Absolute. Thirdly, we\'ll show the fundaments of the essence of the soul-Absolute identity on intellectual intuition understood as transcendental principle and knowledge that infinitely overcomes all temporal determination and, at the same time, realises the transcendental principle, and the immanent cause of the pure subject- object\'s volitive and cognitive equipossibility.

Trata-se de compreender como se articula um sistema de filosofia que, emerso da Crítica kantiana, não pode nem fazer apelo aos objetos da metafísica especial, nem pressupor qualquer positividade, como a lógica e a coisa em si, constituindo-se, pois, como uma doutrina-da-ciência. Ao nosso ver, essa articulação tem seu núcleo central em um primado da prática: a Fundação da Ciência do Prático, terceira parte da Fundação de toda a Doutrina-da-Ciência, tem seu lugar no sistema ao solucionar as contradições e limites que o saber teórico deixou e que, como mera teoria, é incapaz de dar conta , mostrando que é apenas a partir do primado da faculdade prática, fundada na exigência do eu absoluto de realizar a infinitude e na lei do eu de refletir sobre si mesmo como realizando tal idéia, que se funda o sistema do saber humano e, portanto, a representação. Parece-nos que este momento da exposição da doutrina-daciência de 1794 permite a descrição do idealismo transcendental de Fichte como um idealismo crítico, herdeiro da filosofia kantiana. / Our aim is to understand how Fichte´s system of philophy is articulated, provided that it, coming from Kant´s Critic, cannot make appeal either to the objects of special metaphysics or pressuposes any positivity like logics or the thing in itself and therefore arrives at a Doctrine of Science (Wissenschaftslehre). In our interpretation, this articulation is centered on the primacy of practice: the \"Foundation of the Science of Practice\", third part of the Foundation of the Entire Doctrine of Science, fits in the system as it solves the contradictions and limits of the theoretical knowledge by showing that only the primacy of the practical faculty, grounded in the necessity of the realization of infinity by the absolute I and in the law of self-reflection as the realization of this idea, can found the system of human knowledge and hence the representation. It seems that this moment of the exposition of 1794´s Doctrine of Science allows the description of Fichte´s transcendental idealism as a critic idealism, heir of kantian philosophy.

However, when we read the poem Works and Days, we find a discourse that seeks to ground human action in an absolute conception of justice. And precisely because of this, it provides an important background for the construction of the conception of justice present in the Republic. Hence, this dissertation intends to establish parallelisms between the conception of justice of the poet Hesiod and the one Plato presents in the Republic with the objective of determining if, in fact, the poet's conception is so opposed to that of the philosopher as he presents it in the mentioned dialogue. / Nos livros II e III da República, Platão examina os métodos dos poetas e seus efeitos diante do público e ao fazê-lo conclui que não são compatíveis com seu objetivo educacional, pois se opõem à sua concepção ética e ao seu projeto político. No entanto, quando fazemos uma leitura do poema Os trabalhos e os dias, encontramos um discurso que procura fundamentar a ação humana numa concepção absoluta de justiça. E justamente por isso, fornece um importante pano de fundo para a construção da concepção de justiça presente na República. Em virtude disso, esta dissertação pretende estabelecer os paralelismos entre a concepção de justiça do poeta Hesíodo e a que Platão apresenta na República com o objetivo de determinar se efetivamente a concepção do poeta é tão oposta à do filósofo como ele a apresenta no mencionado diálogo.
