The Cracking and Tensile-Load-Bearing Behaviour of Concrete Reinforced with Sanded Carbon GridsFrenzel, Michael, Baumgärtel, Enrico, Marx, Steffen, Curbach, Manfred 04 October 2024 (has links)
This article presents the cracking and load-bearing behaviour of carbon-reinforced prismatic concrete tensile specimens. Grids with different geometries and impregnations were used as carbon reinforcement. In addition, the roving surfaces were partially coated with a fine sand to improve the bond between concrete and reinforcement. The article shows the influence of the different parameters on the developing cracks with respect to their width and spacing from each other. The material properties and tensile strengths of carbon concrete are also presented. These can be used for calculations. A fine-grained, commercially available shotcrete was used for the investigations. Based on the tests and results described in this article, an influence of the sanded carbon grids on the crack properties (crack widths, crack spacing) could be shown in comparison to unsanded carbon grids.

Defining the Inflammation Biomarkers of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Colorectal CarcinomasLi, Jianxu 14 December 2016 (has links)
Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD) are the two common forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). They share similar clinical and demographic features as well as harbor key differences in tissue damage and prognosis. Previous studies indicated that they contributed to the increased rick to Colorectal cancer (CRC). However, whether UC and CD share inflammatory signatures still remains controversial. In addition, no inflammatory signatures have been reported on CRC. To answer these questions, a comprehensive study has been conducted on collected microarray datasets. Our analysis suggests that although CD and UC share common inflammatory pathways, they also present difference. Especially, CD patients are likely to have type I response, while UC patients are inclined to undergo type II response. Pathway enrichment analysis on CRC uncovered two potential CRC-specific inflammatory pathways.

A qualitative study exploring care leavers' transition experiences from care to independencyNdure, Mariama, King, Lisa January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this study was to explore care leavers' experiences to independency after being discharged from public care. The study explored the services provided for young adults who have left public care and how they perceived the support provided for them during their transition and after. The study has also an interest on the care leavers' rights according to the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child. A qualitative study approach was used to collect data, due to the focus on the interpretation of the care leavers' experiences and to get in-depth information and descriptions about their experiences and perspectives. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four participants who have left care. Moreover, the findings show that the participants were disadvantaged in many areas during their transition and the support received were limited. From the findings, the care leavers were lacking stability, encouragement and both emotional and adequate practical support after being discharged from care.

Om samhällets ansvar för barnen : En undersökning om barnet i svensk rättsprocess utifrån internationell rätt / About society's responsibility for the children : A study about the child in Swedish legal process based on international lawViktorsson, Clara January 2019 (has links)
Every year tens of thousands of children and adolescents come in contact with different parts of the justice system in Sweden, as witnesses, victims and suspects. This essay aims at critically examine children’s rights in legal proceedings based on European union legislation and the United nations convention on the rights of the child. Political problems are increasingly being defined at the European level of cooperation and decisions regarding Sweden’s future are more often being made by the EU. In June of 2018, Sweden’s parliament voted for the convention on the rights of the child to become law. This analysis will use systematic literature searches to collect the material and two theories about children’s participation and their possibility to act independently will be applied. The study concludes that Sweden’s work with children in legal proceedings fall short in certain regards while they follow EU: s and UN: s laws and opinions in others. What seems to be largely lacking is commitment and knowledge regarding children’s needs.

Bluetooth Enhanced Data Rate Baseband Modeling and ImplementationZou, Lei January 2006 (has links)
<p>The main issue of this thesis is making the behaviour model of Bluetooth EDR (enhanced data rate) baseband signal processing. This Bluetooth baseband project is part of the soft defined radio project at electrical engineering department, Linköping University.</p><p>In this project, both the basic rate and EDR model were built and simulated. The GFSK and π/4 DQPSK digital modulation and demodulation were implemented in C code. The BER was tested to evaluate the demodulation results. Furthermore, the error correction (FEC) and the error checking (HEC,CRC) were also implemented according to the Bluetooth standards. The CRC flag was detected to test the payload demodulation results.</p><p>Especially, GFSK and π/4 DQPSK specifications have to be combined with each other at sample rate of ADC.</p><p>Finally, the basic rate and EDR model were simulated to measure the BER and CRC performance.</p><p>From the simulation results, the receiver filter, synchronization and channel condition were three key points in this Bluetooth EDR system implementation.</p><p>So we get further understanding about the Bluetooth system specification and DSP implementation methods.</p>

BARNKONVENTIONEN : 20 år senareKarlsson, Eleonor January 2010 (has links)
<p>On November 1989 the <strong>Convention on the Rights of the Child </strong>was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. Today more than 20 years later the convention is ratified by all countries in the world except the USA. A question asked is however if the convention after 20 years of development work has in fact accomplished some positive effects for children around the world?</p><p> </p><p>The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in selected states and to reach this aim some questions need to be answered:</p><p> </p><ol><li>What do the selected states do to realize the <strong>best interest of the child</strong>?</li><li>What do the selected states do to guarantee all children’s right to<strong> survival and development</strong>?</li><li>Do all children in the selected states have the same right to <strong>health and health services</strong>?</li><li>Do all children in the selected states have the same <strong>right to education</strong>?</li></ol><p> </p><p>The material studied in this thesis is those reports that are to be sent periodically to the Committee on the Rights of the Child by all states. The result of this study shows that the Convention on the Rights of the Child has made some positive progresses when it comes to the situation of the child in the world. In the selected states of this study the awareness of the Rights of the Children is noticeable and according to the periodic reports the states continue to work and develop the implementation of the convention.</p>

Application of Proximity Ligation Assay for Multidirectional Studies on Transforming Growth Factor-β PathwayZieba, Agata January 2012 (has links)
A comprehensive understanding of how the body and all its components function is essential when this knowledge is exploited for medical purposes. The achievements in biological and medical research during last decades has provided us with the complete human genome and identified signaling pathways that governs the cellular processes that facilitates the development and maintenance of higher order organisms. This has brought about the realization that diseases such as cancer is a consequence of genomic aberrations that effects these signaling pathways, endowing cancer cells with the capacity to circumvent homeostasis by acquiring features like self-sustained proliferation and insensitivity to apoptosis. The increased understanding of biology and medicine has been made possible by the development of advanced methods to carry out biological and clinical analyses. The demands of a method often differ regarding in what context it will be applied. It may be acceptable for method to be laborious and time consuming if it is used in basic research, but for medical purposes molecular methods need to be fast and straightforward to perform. Innovative technologies should preferentially address the demands of both researchers and clinicians and provide data not possible to obtain by other methods. An example of such a method is the in situ proximity ligation assay (in situ PLA). In this thesis I have used this method to determine the activity status, at the single-cell level, of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling pathway and activating protein-1 (AP-1) family of transcription factors. Both of these pathways are frequently involved in cancer development and progression. In addition to this research I herein also present further modifications of in situ PLA, and analyses thereof, to increase the utility and resolution of this assay.
