Práticas epistêmicas, comunidades epistêmicas de práticas e o conhecimento biológico: análise de uma atividade didática sobre dinâmica de crescimento populacional / Epistemic practices, epistemic communities of practices and biological knowledge: analysis of a didactic activity on population growth dynamics

Eloisa Cristina Gerolin 17 November 2017 (has links)
Based on the assumptions of sociocultural psychology, scientific literacy, social anthropology and the studies of sociology and philosophy of science, in this dissertation we seek to analyze how the epistemic practices of science mobilized in the teaching and learning of ecology are related to the epistemic practices commonly used in the scientific studies developed in this field of knowledge; and how engaging with such practices has given students the opportunity to appropriate aspects of the scientific culture. In this work we also try to understand how the involvement in a inquiry activity about population dynamics led to the formation of an epistemic community of practices, in which students and teachers worked in a collective and collaborative way, through the sharing and validation of sociocultural practices (epistemic practices), values, criteria, procedures, explanations, ideas, arguments, etc. This research was conducted as a qualitative case study. The data analyzed in this research were collected through audiovisual recordings during biology classes of high school (students aged 15 to 16 years) of a state public school in the city of São Paulo. Audio-visual recordings were transcribed, organized into units of analysis and interpreted through descriptors of analysis categories. Our results indicate that the sharing of a common objective (answering the research question of the inquiry activity), the engagement with epistemic practices and the validation and legitimation processes of techniques, tools, knowledge, procedures and evidence led the group to a process of establishing itself as an epistemic community of practices. In this process, the role of the teacher in the evaluation and legitimation of the students\' proposals is highlighted, promoting the consolidation of the community and establishing criteria for judging what counts as data, evidence and justification in the inquiry activity. This study also provided evidence of how the nature of the knowledge that thematicised the didactic activity influenced the expression of epistemic practices similar to those used in scientific studies on population dynamics. The discursive interactions of the students and the teacher showed an engagement with epistemic practices very similar to those of the ecological studies of population dynamics, such as the use and construction of graphs that express the dynamics of the population over time and the establishment of methodologies and techniques of counting and sampling of individuals.

Développement d’un biomarqueur de qualité spermatique chez deux espèces de crevettes Palaemonidae : état des lieux le long du continuum estuaire / littoral de la Seine / Development of biomarker of sperm quality in two shrimp species of Palaemonidae : inventory along the estuary / littoral continuum of the Seine

Erraud, Alexandre 25 May 2018 (has links)
The environment shapes the reproduction's strategy and performance of a population, influencing its fitness and a fortiori its survival. Therefore, biomarkers that alter reproductive functions represent a great interest in ecotoxicology. The reduction of male fertility in wildlife can represent a threat to the population's survival. Moreover, fcw methodologies are available for species that are relevant to address this issue on envimnmental biomonitoring programs, especially for crustaceans, despite their representativeness in the wildlife and their essential functions within ecosysterns. The present work aimed to propose methodologies based on the measurement of functionality and integrity spermatic biomarkers on Palaemonidae shrimps. We studied two species, an estuarine, Palaemon longirostris, and a coastal species. Palaemon serratus. due to their complementaiity on the continuum estuary-littoral ecosystem. Howevcr, crustaceans' sperm has many structuraI and functional characteristics, the number of transposable markers is limited. Thereafter, the research effort was refocused on the measurement of the DNA integrity and this inethod was evaluated for its adequacy for a biomonitoring study. We optitrtized and validate the Cornet assay for the Palaemonidae species, and the dynamic of the biological response in ternis of appearances, persistence, and possible effects on fitness was evaluated under controlled conditions in the laboratoiy. Furthermore, ex-vivo and in-vivo exposures were conducted using genotoxic models with different modes of action. On the one hand, results attested to the sensibility, the reproducibility and the integrating character of the response, on the other hand, no correlation between damaged sperm DNA and an altération of the pre-hatch stage of development was established. In paralIel, an in-situ approach was conducted to characterize the baseline level of the measured response, taking into consideration the specific constraints of each species' habitat. We were able to define a common baseline level and a threshold value for both species, highlighting the potential of the tool for inter-species transferability. This method was tested with native populations from the estuary and from the Seine Bay in 2015 and 20] 6. And, the results proved to be consistent with the contamination pressure and the hydro-sedimentary dynamics of the Seine Bay. Ultimately, the DNA integrity of sperm in Palaemonidae seems to be functional for in-situ deploytnents as a biomarker of exposure to genotoxic stress. Nevertheless, future studies should be conducted (1) to botter discern the implications of this spermatic damage on the recruitment of new cohorts and, (2) to test the transferability of the methodology to other shrimp species and on a wider geographical scale.

Analogie et saisie discursive de l'expérience sonore : du sensible à l'intelligible / Analogy experience of sound and speech : from perception to meaning

Pinard, Dominique 08 December 2018 (has links)
Like any human experience, the relationship to sound calls for language, which contributes to engaging it in the lives of individuals and communities. Speakers, though, often claim to encounter special difficulties when talking about acoustic phenomena. Should this situation be attributed to the essential irreductibility of percept to speech, to possible deficiencies of language in the field of auditory experience or to the specificity of a situation in which speech, bound both by signans and signatum to sound, has to reactivate the semiotic process at its source? Highlighting the fact that talking about soundsalways means talking about our relation to acoustic phenomena, this study is based on a corpus analysis and focuses on the way speech bears witness to and takes part in the central contribution of acoustic experience to “being in the world“. Based on the cognitive approach of analogy (Hofstadter, Sander, 2013), it focuses - from acoustic to musical points of view - on the links between auditory categorization processes and the different modalities of “speech on sound“. If, as the analysis suggests, analogies which play a part in auditory perception are the same as those which contribute to the significant useof sound in language, can speech on sound enable us to better understand what is at stake in the original link binding, in and by acoustic experience, the exploration of the sensitive universe to the adventure of meaning ?

Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis Using Strain-Space Plasticity Coupled With Damage

Dawari, Balkrishna Maruti 11 1900 (has links)
The Thesis deals with Strain-Space Plasticity and its implementation in Nonlinear Finite Element frame-work coupled with damage. Conventional Stress-Space Plasticity, though very popular amongst commercial nonlinear FEM software package, has severe limitations especially in dealing with perfect-plasticity situations and also for softening behaviour. Strain-Space Plasticity, when fully evolved, has the potential to replace the Stress-space Plasticity. The thesis is a welcome addition in furthering the understanding of Strain-Space Plasticity and its illustration to analyze practical engineering problems. Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM) is an evolving area of Solid Mechanics with great potential for application in failure and integrity analyses. Research activities have been initiated by several research groups world-wide, thus demonstrating its acceptance as an area of mechanics in its own right .This thesis further demonstrates coupling of Continuum Damage Mechanics with Strain-Space Plasticity. The thesis has been organized into 11 chapters with a good review of Plasticity (Stress-Space as well as Strain-Space), CDM, Stainless-steel Plasticity as well as Adhesive Plasticity. Main research contributions include: Formulation, FEM implementation and benchmarking of Strain Space Plasticity for Plane-Stress, Plane Strain, Axi-symmetric as well as 3-D case. Both isotropic and kinematic hardening models have been implemented. Further, these implementations have been extended by coupling with Damage. Special illustrations have been made to practical situations involving constitutive modeling of Stainless-steel and structural-adhesive.

Bellavance, Marjolaine 12 1900 (has links)
In the present social context, the identification and the comprehension of palliative care workers representations is at the base of their professional education and behaviours as well as of the many changes occurring in health care institutions. The aim of the present research is to describe and better comprehend the representations of a group of health care professionals working in a continuum of palliative care services in the Quebec health care and social services network. It is also to propose educational and organizational interventions in order to bring workers closer to the palliative care philosophy. Semi directed interviews and a content analysis revealed a large variety of representations that were both similar and different in each group as well as in the different groups. Many different meanings were given to each theme explored. The health care workers palliative care representations contain a variety of highly practical knowings and knowledges that bring together a vast majority of common sense meanings. One point is crucial: palliative care philosophy education should be at the base of palliative care interventions. The education content should take into account the multiple non scientific and ambiguous components of daily work in a palliative care settings since they are part of the process conducting to the appropriation of the palliative care philosophy.

Distribuição longitudinal de adultos de Odonata em riachos no Cerrado: uma hipótese ecofisiológica / Longitudinal distribution of adult Odonata in Cerrado streams: an ecophysiologic hypothesis

Batista, Joana Darc 06 July 2006 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 texto completo.pdf: 986817 bytes, checksum: e4ef3e7967a1c4ddb759b319e3255b70 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-07-06 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The longitudinal distribution of adult Odonata was examined in streams of different channel width in the Pindaíba River Basin, in the municipalities of Barra do Garças and Nova Xavantina. The general purpose was to evaluate the existence of environmental gradients that affect the longitudinal distribution of Odonata, and to establish testable predictions to this predator group regarding the River Continuum Concept. Two hypotheses were tested: (1) increasing channel width longitudinally along the basin causes an increase of light input, and, assuming restraints and distinct abilities, there would be a decrease of Zygoptera and increase of Anisoptera species richness. (2) Dragonflies are affected by the gradient generated through river continuum mechanisms, increasing species richness in medium-sized streams. I sampled 19 sites in rivers and streams from 1st to 6th orders, and in each site I sample once in the dry and once in the rainy seasons. Quantitative survey was conducted through scan method in fixed areas, counting visually on Odonata adults along 100 meters of the waterbody, divided into 20 stretches of 5 meters each. Channel width and depth measures were taken at the beginning, middle, and end of each 20-meter region. A total of 549 individuals were collected, distributed in one family, 13 genera and 17 species of Anisoptera, and six families, 15 genera and 30 species of Zygoptera. The abundance and proportion of Zygoptera species decrease while Anisoptera increase with channel width and mean depth of rivers and streams. The channel width was considered the best predictor of Odonata species distribution. The distribution of Odonata, species richness, did not corroborate the hypotheses of higher species richness in the middle courses of streams. The results obtained in this study confirm the thermoregulation hypothesis as a determining factor in the distribution of Odonata species in the system.

Nilsson, Marita January 2018 (has links)
This essay describes the debate about the principle ofprovenance and its multiple forms, and the transformationsof these forms, due to the coming of electronic informations. The thesis intended to explain the definitions of the principlein a modern information management and there explore howthey operate proactively to assure provenance. The qualitative investigation was carried out at tenmunicipality final archives, where each municipalityarchivist was being interviewed. The study expounds in whatway the digitisation has simplified the methods to conductassured provenance, where automated metadata shows therelationships of the information to function and process. Theessay also debates the difficulties that appear when digitalinformation are being organized in different ways thananalogue information, and how this fact requires a newinterpretation of the principle of provenance. The researcher concludes that the investigated archives, ensure respect des fonds when it concerns the content of thearchives, but not when it comes to the whole content of theinformation management. The result of the study also showsthat the respect of original order as a reflection of theorganization, has to be understood throughout all content ofthe management and its logical order, rather than the visiblecontent that the archives embrace. Furthermore the thesisobserves the importance of proactivity, regarding theclarification of the relationships between the information andthe processes that produce and use them. This could beachieved with early application of metadata and developmentof systems that keep metadata trough all processes. Theconclusion of the essay is that this is not pursued in theextension that is required.

A descriptive inquiry into the educational focus of a nursing college

Mouton, Chautnette 06 1900 (has links)
Text in English / The question the researcher set out to answer during this research study was: "What is the Educational Focus of a Nursing College, when viewed within Bevis and Watson's Humanistic·Educative-Caring Curriculum Paradigm versus a Stimulus-Response Curriculum Paradigm?" To answer this question, an exploratory, descriptive and contextual study was undertaken. The population consisted of tutors employed at a College of Nursing. From this population a purposive sample was drawn. Data was collected by means of formal, semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire. Content analysis was used to analyse the data. It was found that during the first year of students' education and training, the Educational Focus of the College was on training but during the second year, the focus changed to the transitional phase. The transitional phase is situated between training and education. During the third and fourth year, the focus was also in transition, but the way students learn was at the training phase. / Health Studies / M.A. (Advanced Nursing Sciences)

… except death, taxes and the GDPR : En kvalitativ studie av huruvida hänsyn har tagits till informationskultur under arbetet inför GDPR på två svenska universitet

Paulsrud, Ludvig January 2018 (has links)
I studien används Gillian Oliver and Fiorella Foscarinis definition av informationskultur, vilket de definierar som ”values accorded to information, and attitudes towards it, specifically within organisational contexts.” / The aim of this thesis is to examine if information culture is a theoretical construct that can assist in creating a proactive recordkeeping environment. It also aims to investigate if information culture can be of help to an organization that goes through changes that affect its recordkeeping practices. The study uses Gillian Oliver and Fiorella Foscarini’s definition of information culture, which they define as ”values accorded to information, and attitudes towards it, specifically within organisational contexts.” The preparations for the GDPR (EU) 2016/67 at two Swedish universities functions as the case that the author uses to explore these questions. Using a qualitative method, interviewing five people, the author examined the interviewees’ values towards information and how the organizations had prepared for the GDPR. The study suggests that there is need for cooperation between archivists and people from other professions, such as IT and law, when preparing for complex recordkeeping issues such as the GDPR. However, the study shows that an archivist is not always involved in an organization’s change management effort.  The study shows that there is a difference between adopting an information culture perspective when managing change and using information culture as Oliver and Foscarini intend it be used. Their approach addresses organizations and structures that are already established. The problem areas that Oliver and Foscarini think an archivist should avoid focusing its change management efforts on, because they are hard to change, are shown to be as important to work with as other problem areas when managing change in an organization. Just because a level of the information culture framework that Oliver and Foscarini have developed is difficult to affect in an organization does not mean that it is hard to incorporate into a change management effort. In contrast to other change management theories, an information culture perspective highlights aspects that are directly connected to the role of the archivist. Instead of generic advice, such as “cooperation”, information culture specifically advices the archivist to “cooperate with the IT department”. Information culture is a theoretical construct that embraces other established theories. From a recordkeeping perspective, an information culture approach is therefore paradoxically both broad and exact at the same time.
