Eco-Clusters as Driving Force for Greening Regional Economic Policy. Policy Paper no 27

Pohl, Alina 10 1900 (has links) (PDF)
This research investigates eco-clusters as driver for greening regional economic policy and examines necessary incentive structures to foster eco-innovation as well as growth and employment in the eco-industry sector. Eco-clusters are seen in context with sustainability and environmental friendly behavior as means for a socio-ecological transition in the long run. The main hypothesis implies that eco-clusters have to be policy driven and established top-down and therefore differ from cluster structures in other industries. Possible reasons are uncertainty on a developing market as well as external effects of eco-innovations; the latter are seen as radical innovations. Based on theoretic findings for the establishment of clusters and general research findings for eco-clusters and eco-innovations, it is differentiated between a spontaneous cluster emergence from private initiatives through self-reinforcing forces of companies in a region (bottom-up), and the formation of a policy-driven network with primarily regional objectives to stimulate the competitive advantage of the regional industrial location (top-down). The hypothesis will be proofed by empirical results gained through personal interviews and complemented by findings in current research literature. Finally, implications for incentive structures to green economic policy are identified. It is shown that eco-clusters are different to other clusters and crucial for a long-term sustainable change and thus need political commitment and public incentives. For empirical observation, eco-clusters in Austria were selected. This research relates to the ongoing debate on green growth and develops policy incentives for establishment of eco-clusters and thus greening of economic policy. / Series: WWWforEurope

[en] PARENTS MANAGING THE SCHOOL: DOES THIS CHANGE THE RELATIONSHIP? SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF A JEWISH INSTITUTION / [pt] PAIS NA GESTÃO DA ESCOLA: MUDAM AS RELAÇÕES? UMA ANÁLISE SOCIOLÓGICA DE UMA INSTITUIÇÃO JUDAICA

DIANA MANDELERT 06 October 2005 (has links)
[en] In the perspective of the researches which aim to analyse the family-school relations, the current work has the objective to study those relations in a jewish school where the family involvement is part of the structure. This investigation had as empirical material the survey Production Process in Teaching Quality. School, Family and Culture, from SOCED, Group pf Research in Sociology of Education. The survey was composed by three distinct questionnaires: students, parents and teachers, submitted in 9 schools annually appointed by the press as Top schools in Rio de Janeiro. On top of that, physical observations were done in the board of parents who has the final responsibility to manage the school, and interviews were conducted with the coordinators of the jewish school. Through the research it was possible to establish the influence of the social and cultural capital in the family- school relations, even in prestige schools as the ones in the survey. In the terms of parents management it was noticed clear segregation of educational from financial- administrative management. The first one being conducted by the school professionals and the second one by the administrative professionals supported by the board of parents. This segregation points out more to a symbolic rather than effective participation of the board of parents. The existence of this defined space of parent´s control gives the dimension of their importance in the children school background.

Tempo de armazenamento e manejo do painel no valor nutritivo de silagens de milho / Storage period and face management on the nutritional value of corn silage

Junges, Daniel 06 October 2014 (has links)
In the experiment I, the aim was to evaluate the effects of microbial additives and length of storage on the quality of corn silage. Whole-corn plants were ensiled without or with inoculants containing homofermentative (Lactobacillus plantarum + Enterococcus faecium + Pediococcus acidilactici + cellulolytic and hemicellulolytic enzymes) or heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus buchneri) applied at 1 × 105 cfu/g. Treated forages were packed and stored in experimental silos for 3, 7, 15, 30, 60, 210, 390, 480, and 570 days. Samples were evaluated for chemical composition, fermentation end-products, microbial counts, fermentation losses, aerobic stability, and ruminal degradability in situ. Inoculants did not affect most of the variables studied. However, L. buchneri increased acetic acid concentration and decreased aerobic deterioration of silages, as indicated by the lower heat accumulation during the exposure to air. Soluble carbohydrates decreased across the storage period, reflecting the conversion of soluble sugars to fermentation end-products. Concentrations of prolamin decreased, whereas ammonia and soluble protein concentrations increased over the storage period, indicating the proteolysis. The silage pH declined rapidly in the first seven days of storage and remained stable for the remaining storage period, unlike for acetic acid concentration that increased with storage period. On the other hand, counts of lactic acid bacteria and yeasts decreased during the storage. Gas production and dry matter loss increased with the length of storage. The storage period increased all variables stability aerobic. Most of significant improvements in stability aerobic were observed during the first 60 days of storage. Ruminal degradability of starch and, consequently, dry matter increased along the storage. In the experiment II, the aim was to evaluate the influence of strategy of silage unload on the performance of dairy cows. Corn silage from a bunker silo was separated at unloading as silage from the upper half of the silo (top) or from the lower half of the silo (bottom) and used to compose total mixed rations fed to 24 lactating cows allocated in 12 randomized blocks, arranged in a cross-over design with 21 periods. Cows were housed in a tie-stall barn. All diets contained 60% of corn silage and were iso-nitrogen (16.5% CP) and iso-starch (17.0% of starch). Dry matter intake, milk yield and composition were determined from day 15 to 21 in each period. Although silage from bottom led to higher total tract DM digestibility and lower milk urea nitrogen concentration (8.95 vs. 11.35 mg/dL), most of evaluated variables were not affected by treatments. Under optimal silo management, the strategy used to unload corn silage does not affect the performance of dairy cows.

How CEO Values and TMT Diversity Jointly Influence the Corporate Strategy Making Process

Hoffmann, Werner H., Meusburger, Lukas January 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Understanding managerial behavior and its underlying motivations is of key interest in times where the role of business in society is generally viewed critically. While CEO influence on strategy making processes is almost undisputed, little attention has explicitly been paid to how CEO values and the characteristics of the top management team (TMT) interact in shaping corporate strategy making. This is surprising if one follows the assumption that top managers who work closely together will by necessity influence each other's actions. Hence, we would expect the CEO-TMT interface to be vital in understanding how leadership influences strategy making. To address this, we propose a model in which the personal values of the CEO have a direct effect on the characteristics of corporate strategy making processes yet where this association is moderated by TMT diversity. We test the model with data from Austria and Germany obtained through a large-scale survey conducted in spring 2015 and a follow-up survey conducted in fall 2015 and find general support for our model. CEO values geared towards self-transcendence (as opposed to selfinterest) seem to be associated with more formal strategy making processes, while values geared towards openness to change (as opposed to conservation) are found to be associated with more flexible and less externally open ones. TMT diversity moderates all of these relationships. Our results add to upper echelon theory as well as to strategy process research and highlight promising avenues for future research.

Estudo comparativo entre duas técnicas para montagem do modelo de gesso de arcadas superiores em articulador semi-ajustável / A comparative study between two techniques to mount the maxillary cast in semi-adjustable articulator

Costa, Rogério Ribas da 20 November 2001 (has links)
This study assessed the ability of two techniques to mount the maxillary cast in the articulator, a conventional technique and one of direct transfer of the maxillary arch impression from the patient\'s mouth to the articulator. A single female subject, 39 years old, with a partially edentulous arch, Kennedy´s Class I, was used in this investigation. It was obtained 20 casts in each technique, totaling 40 cast mountings in the articulators. With the maxillary cast mounted, each articulator was photographed in the same right side of the lateral skull cephalometric radiograph of the patient with the face-bow mounted in her face. The measures obtained by the photographic and cephalometric tracings were evaluated by calculating the angle made by the intersection of the maxillary occlusal plane with craniofacial horizontal reference plane (Frankfort´s plane) on the patient´s cephalogram and comparing it with the angle between the occlusal plane of the cast with the upper member of the articulators in both techniques using the UTHSCSA Image Tool computerized program. The measuring data was submitted to the statistical analysis. The results of this study demonstrated a better capacity of reproduction of that angle when a direct transfer technique is used. In the same way, it was found a significant low level of reproducibility in mounting the maxillary cast when a conventional technique is used.

The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, resistivity measurements and mechanical properties by instrumented indentation and conventional Vickers measurement. The X-ray pattern and EDS analysis revealed the presence of Y-123, Y-211 and BaCeO3. Er substitution did not affect the superconducting properties. No difference in hardness was observed for the ab and a(b)c-plane. Elastic modulus of the a(b)c-plane was 10 % higher than of the ab-plane. Difference in indentation fracture toughness obtained by conventional Vickers indentation of the ab and a(b)c-planes was observed. The 5 % Er addition did not affect significantly the mechanical properties of melt-textured samples when compared with pure melt-textured Y Ba2Cu3O7. We have also studied fluctuations on the electrical conductivity in the samples. Two samples with different disorder states were studied. To identify power-law divergences of the conductivity, the results were analyzed in terms of the temperature derivative of the resistivity (d=dT ) and of the logarithmic temperature derivative of the conductivity (d(ln)=dT ). For sample with extreme granularity, we have observed for J k ab configuration a regime corresponding to the exponent u 1:6 0:1. For homogeneous sample, the fluctuations above the critical temperature are highly anisotropic: Gaussian regimes are observed for J ab configuration and critical regimes for J k ab configuration. Also, the data showed the occurrence of a two-stage transition, but it was not observed power-law behavior in the regime of near-zero resistance state.

Moraes, Renan Manhabosco January 2017 (has links)
The change in the behavior of consumers with the advent of technology and social networks generates a great empowerment of themselves, substantially altering the relationship form of companies to their final audience. Attentive to this market, media companies undergo profound changes, both from the point of view of delivering content to their audience, as well as in their administrative, strategic and financial format. Thus, the present dissertation presents approaches supported by multivariate techniques for the composition of commercial and remuneration teams of the sales group of a communication company. In article 1, the objective is to generate a model to estimate the commercial awards of the sales teams of the RBS Group radios. To do this, we initially generate groupings of radio stations from the RBS Group in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina based on their profiles of similarities. For each cluster generated, a multiple linear regression of the commercial award is generated, validated through cross validation through the adjusted R2 and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). The second article addresses the clustering of RBS Group top clients and the impact on the composition of business teams through the variable selection method. The original 7 variables were evaluated through the variable selection method "Omit one variable at a time"; the best Silhouette Index (SI) average, metric used to evaluate the quality of the generated clusters, was obtained when 3 variables were retained. Clusters generated by such variables reflect customers' buying behavior of media; the clusters were considered satisfactory when evaluated by RBS Group experts.

Importance of fish community structure, nutrients and browning for shallow lake ecosystem dynamics : A modelling perspective

Karlberg, Ylva January 2019 (has links)
In a changing climate, it is increasingly important to be able to model environmental effects on food webs, and to do that, one must have appropriate dynamic models. I present a shallow lake ecosystem model where producers, grazers, carnivores, piscivores, and detritivores are coupled through resource (light, nutrients and detritus) fluxes between the benthic and pelagic habitats and through carnivore life history events (ontogenetic habitat and diet shifts). The two habitats each contain primary producers, grazers, carnivores and detritivores. Within the habitats, there is strong top-down regulation, but across habitat boundaries, bottom-up interactions drive production. In the absence of piscivores, stage-structured carnivores cause intriguing patters of alternative stable states. Notably, the model predicts a lesser dependence on benthic production with detritus presence. Model predictions are largely in agreement with empirical studies. The results have implications for management of freshwater, and for the interpretation of previous models.
