Broilo Neto, Gilberto 15 August 2017 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2017-10-25T12:01:06Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Gilberto Broilo Neto.pdf: 2137616 bytes, checksum: dff4b5374bbd97c9f849d7dd7b3da707 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2017-10-25T12:01:07Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Gilberto Broilo Neto.pdf: 2137616 bytes, checksum: dff4b5374bbd97c9f849d7dd7b3da707 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-10-25 / This dissertation is about code-switching and footing in the north-american sitcom Friends. Both the switch of language and the identity positioning are objects of analysis for the Interactional Sociolinguistics area (GOFFMAN, 1981; HUDSON, 1996; DURANTI, 1997), which is the main theory of this investigation. Not only theoretical aspects of this background are used but also studies about humour (RASKIN, 1979; WRIGHT, 1875), sitcom (FURQUIM, 1999; SAVORELLI, 2010; VANDAELE, 1996), multimodalidality (GOODWIN, 2010; KRESS; LEEUWEN, 1996; VIEIRA; SILVESTRE, 2015), estereotypes (LAKOFF, 1987; SCHIAPPA; GREGG; HEWES, 2005), performance (TURNER, 1987), social generalization (BLUM, 2004), among others. In order to solve the problem of this research, which resides in understanding whether both code-switching and footing are strategies of humour in the sitcom Friends, we opted for the case study of this situational comedy and for the investigation of the communicative acts in which the switch of linguistic codes and identity repositiong are found. The general objective of this research is to examine the connection between humour creation and the situations in which there is evidence of code-switching between American English and British English, positioning between American English varieties and the multimodal positioning of communicative interactions in episodes of the sitcom Friends. The specific objectives are (a) to identify the constructs of cultural identity in the sitcom Friends, (b) to identify the situations of code-switching in the humour generation, (c) to analyse the situations of code-switching and the multimodal aspects of the communicative act and (d) to analyse the effects of humour, highlighting the intervenient cultural aspects related to such effects. In order to fulfill these objectives, we, also, based our research on the studies of framing (GOFFMAN, 1974), which are identified in the scenes of code-switching and footing, being transcribed according to the Conversation Analysis symbolic conventions (SACKS; SCHEGLOFF; JEFFERSON, 1974). The results show that, in the episodes of the series Friends analysed, both code-switching and footing are potential strategic mecanisms to create humour formed in several situations through different comical functions, such as: cultural satire, stereotyped caricature, reality representation, among others.

Inférence de la grammaire structurelle d’une émission TV récurrente à partir du contenu / Content-based inference of structural grammar for recurrent TV programs from a collection of episodes

Qu, Bingqing 03 December 2015 (has links)
TV program structuring raises as a major theme in last decade for the task of high quality indexing. In this thesis, we address the problem of unsupervised TV program structuring from the point of view of grammatical inference, i.e., discovering a common structural model shared by a collection of episodes of a recurrent program. Using grammatical inference makes it possible to rely on only minimal domain knowledge. In particular, we assume no prior knowledge on the structural elements that might be present in a recurrent program and very limited knowledge on the program type, e.g., to name structural elements, apart from the recurrence. With this assumption, we propose an unsupervised framework operating in two stages. The first stage aims at determining the structural elements that are relevant to the structure of a program. We address this issue making use of the property of element repetitiveness in recurrent programs, leveraging temporal density analysis to filter out irrelevant events and determine valid elements. Having discovered structural elements, the second stage is to infer a grammar of the program. We explore two inference techniques based either on multiple sequence alignment or on uniform resampling. A model of the structure is derived from the grammars and used to predict the structure of new episodes. Evaluations are performed on a selection of four different types of recurrent programs. Focusing on structural element determination, we analyze the effect on the number of determined structural elements, fixing the threshold applied on the density function as well as the size of collection of episodes. For structural grammar inference, we discuss the quality of the grammars obtained and show that they accurately reflect the structure of the program. We also demonstrate that the models obtained by grammatical inference can accurately predict the structure of unseen episodes, conducting a quantitative and comparative evaluation of the two methods by segmenting the new episodes into their structural components. Finally, considering the limitations of our work, we discuss a number of open issues in structure discovery and propose three new research directions to address in future work.

IDENTIDADE FEMININA GAÚCHA: REPRESENTAÇÕES DE GÊNERO NOS PROGRAMAS REGIONAIS BAH! / GAUCHA FEMALE IDENTITY: REPRESENTATIONS OF GENDER IN THE REGIONAL PROGRAMS BAH!

Henriques, Mariana Nogueira 16 March 2016 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research discusses which senses about the identity of the gaucha women are mobilized by RBS TV, from the special programs "Bah! A very gaucho program", Bah! I Am from the South" and "Bah! A very special fandango", shown on September 20th 2013 and 2014 and on September 19th 2015, respectively. The main objective is to analyze the ways in which the senses about the gaucha women are produced, which contribute to the construction and representation of this identity. The specific objectives are: to verify the production conditions that contribute to build this identity in the programs; recognize the elements used by RBS TV to represent the female characters of the program; identify the discourses used by RBS TV in Bah! for the representation of the gaucho identity, particularly the identity of the woman; and characterize the identity processes that update the representation of contemporary gaucho from the identity of the woman. For this purpose, by developing an own methodological model, from the perspective of the cultural studies, we conducted a cultural media analysis to observe our object through three main instances: television making, textual products and the context in which it appears. From the research we infer that the three main senses: concealment, objectification and masculinization form a stereotypical female identity. Also, we realize that the special programs follow the intention of perpetuating a hegemonic masculine identity transmitting a false idea of female empowerment, seeking to generate audience and recognition. Eu Sou do Sul e Bah!

Hur härmar man ”en färg”? : En samtalsanalytisk studie av ansiktsrelaterade åtgärder, roller och humor i Bäst i test / How to ‟imitate a color”? : A conversation analysis of face-work, roles and humor in Bäst i test

Löf Nyqvist, Philip January 2022 (has links)

Programová nabídka Československé televize od roku 1968 do jara 1970 / The TV program of the Czechoslovak television from the year 1968 till April of 1970

Pecáková, Andrea January 2016 (has links)
The thesis titled "The TV program of the Czechoslovak television from the year 1968 till April of 1970" deals with the program offer from the period of so-called Prague Spring until the end of April 1970 when the second transmitter circuit was ready to start. I chose this time period because of frequent changes in politics and society, which was reflected in the media content, and thus in the TV content. This time segment is divided into four time periods in which I monitor the program offer of the TV. The first period is the period of Prague Spring, the second one is from September 1969 to April 1970 when Gustáv Husák became the first secretary of the ÚV KSČ, the third one is from May 1969 to August 1970 when Jan Zelenka became the director of Czechoslovak television (he was considered as the first normalization director) and the fourth period is from September 1969 to April 1970, when the second transmitter circuit was ready to start. The main aims of this thesis are detailed description and comparison of TV offers in these four periods. To achieve the objectives a comparative analysis is used. I analyze mostly weekly magazines Československá televize of the years 1968, 1969 and 1970. The information gained from these magazines is accompanied by other written sources, pictorial records programs...

A representação da Educação Física na mídia televisiva / The representation of physical education in the television media

Cássia Marques Cândido 10 August 2015 (has links)
This research focuses on the professional image of the physical education teacher, considering the notoriety that this profession has acquired on television in the last years. The purpose is to clarify some of the meanings related to the approach of physical education in the context of two programs aired by television channel Rede Globo. The first was based on the eighteenth season of the television series/soap opera "Malhação" and the second on TV frame Medida Certa Measure right / 90 days to reset the body", displayed by the program Fantástico in 2011. The data had taken through access to the TV channel website, which provides for a certain period, the chapters of the mentioned soap opera, as well as editions of that TV show. The method used to guide the analysis of the production process of the senses was the theoretical referential of Discourse Analysis from the perspective of Orlandi. This method allows us to tread ways able to show the explicit and implicit senses coexisting in the speech. So were trodden paths to specific understanding of each phenomenon, that is, for data taken from Malhação were used transcription of dialogues, scenes of presentation and consideration of the camera plans used in their production. For the data from the TV frame Medida Certa were used transcription lines and construction of categories analyzed from an existing grid, considering the title, the speaker, what is said, the intermediary and the strategies used for publication of speech. The results became clear that the senses concerning the physical education present in the eighteenth season of Malhação were inspired by the competitive paradigm area. The outdated stereotypes about the professional and profession were also preserved because the sense for the elderly professor of physical education has been reduced to augmentation of features related to academic outdated. In addition, the results obtained from the analysis of the second phenomenon could clarify that physical education has been dealt with the use of scientific discourse from strategies ruled by examples tested by journalists and offered to viewers. The proposal contained in the TV frame Medida Certa contributed to the representation of physical education as a profession based on biological perspective that is established against the imposition of a risk to the subject, rising as a source of salvation and being separated from cultural and social issues. Besides highlighting meanings that allude to physical education represented in the media in the current moment, the study provided reflections about some principles that regulate the establishment of bodily practices in physical education.
