Tradição e modernidade: desanexação da Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade de São Paulo (EEUSP) / Tradition and Modernity: detaching the School of Nursing from the University of São Paulo (EEUSP)

Emiliane Silva Santiago 27 January 2011 (has links)
This study aimed at analyzing the historical process of the School of Nursings detachment from the University of São Paulo (USP), Medical School (FMUSP) to which it was annexed when created. To this end, a study was done in order to point out some background on nursing status at the time of the foundation of the Nursing School (EEUSP). This is a qualitative, historical and descriptive study. It intends to preserve the memory of the nursing profession and of the School, and to encourage the finding of the professions identity profession, through the analysis of several sources found within the process of detaching the School of Nursing. Among the documentation found, the \"Bulletin of the SESP (Public Health Special Service)\", photographs, letters from Miss Tennant and Mr. Soper, (representatives of the Rockefeller Foundation), old editions of the Medical-Social journal, reports from the Rockefeller Foundation related to the establishment of the Nursing School of Sao Paulo, Minutes of the FMUSP Technical and Administrative Committee and of the Congregation (its highest body), as well as the minutes of the Brazilian Nursing Association, São Paulo Section (ABEn - SP), of the Nursing School itself found in the file of the Rectory, and the minutes of the University Council, the highest body at the University of São Paulo (USP-CO). Analysis of several documents found facilitated the understanding related to the founding of this School of Nursing, University of São Paulo until its detachment from the Medical School. For this purpose, it was necessary to broaden perspectives and learn a little more about these institutions and their characters directly related to this history, some of their principals and first deans. The University of São Paulo was established by Decree no. 6233, on 25th January 1934, and gathered other colleges that already existed. The School of Nursing was planned to be created within this University, annexed to the Medical School, as Nursing did not have much autonomy at that time. The Medical School needed a hospital for practice of medical students. Therefore a hospital was also founded in the 40s and it became nowadays the largest health complex in Latin America, with thousands of beds and all medical and health specialties, a real excellence center. The principle of comprehensiveness. At the recommendation of President Juscelino Kubitschek that midwives are trained in nursing schools in a system of one phase of education policy and other diverse and because of the USP to maintain a reputable nursing school, with the entire infrastructure necessary for the formation of two professionals and the contributions of Maria Rosa Sousa Pinheiro was crucial to completing the process of detaching.

Assessing the awareness of and adherence to the Universal Safety Precautions (USP) among Health Care Workers (HCWs) in Kogi State Specialist Hospital (KSSH), Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria

Efifie, Uchechukwu E. January 2016 (has links)
Magister Public Health - MPH / Introduction: The Universal Safety Precautions (USP) are a set of principles including practices and protocols, which is meant to reduce or prevent occupational exposures to blood borne pathogens among health care workers (HCWs), during the course of their duties in health care settings. Globally and in Nigeria, significant number of HCWs are currently being exposed to blood and other body fluids while working in the hospital setting (Amoran, 2013; Samuel et al., 2008; Akinboro et al., 2012; Ajibola et al., 1994; Okechukwu et al., 2012). These exposures contribute annually to about 16,000 HCV infections and 66,000 HBV infections among HCWs worldwide (Prüss-Üstün et al., 2003) and about 1000 cases of HIV per annum in Nigeria since the first recorded case in 1984 (Okechukwu et al., 2012; Patricia et al., 2007). The objectives of the study were to describe the awareness of the USP among HCWs in Kogi State Specialist Hospital (KSSH), Lokoja and to describe the adherence to the USP among HCWs at KSSH. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among HCWs working in departments where contacts with patients' blood and other body fluids are possible in KSSH. An anonymous self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Analysis of the data collected was with Software Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) V23.0.0 for Mac. Results: Of the 125 participants that returned their questionnaires, 37.6% were nurses, 17.6% were doctors and the remainder were laboratory staff, dentists and hospital attendants. Sixty four percent (64%) of them were females, 49.6% had tertiary education while their average age was 38.5 years. Awareness of and adherence to the USP were observed to be 5.6% and 2.4% respectively. Statistically, complete awareness of the USP was not significantly associated with complete adherence to the USP. More so, 3% and 2.2% of the participants with the number of years in services within the ranges of 5-9 years and 1-4 years respectively had complete adherence to the USP. Statistically significant association was only noted between participants' age and complete adherence to the USP. Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) were the two USP principles with the lowest levels of awareness and adherence, with 46% and 47.6% on awareness respectively and, 43.8% and 44.6% on adherence respectively. Conclusion: The levels of awareness of and adherence to the USP among the HCWs in KSSH were observed to be very low. There is an urgent need for capacity building of the HCWs on the USP in the form of trainings, and in the long term, there is need to conduct a study to assess possible reasons for the observed outcome.

Séguin-Grignon, Marie-Noëlle 12 1900 (has links)
There is a high rate of drug resistance in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) which may be associated with TP53 alterations. The « Ubiquitin specific peptidases » (USP) are involved in several cancers but their roles in AML are not elucidated. Gene expression analysis of 21 USP and genes of the USP7-MDM2-TP53-CDKN1A axis by quantitative RT-PCR in 111 AML samples, showed a deregulation of USP44, USP1, USP28 and CDKN1A in respectively 72%, 44%, 25% and 42% of cases. CDKN1A, an important TP53 target, may have a role in treatment resistance. We have developed an experimental model to assess the response of leukemic cells to doxorubicin and nutlin 3, a non genotoxic TP53 modulator, in relation to the CDKN1A expression level. This preliminary work suggests that some members of the USP family and CDKN1A could represent novel therapeutic targets in AML.

Tempos da política: memórias de militantes estudantis do Instituto de Psicologia da Universidade de São Paulo / Political times: memories of student activists from the University of São Paulo\'s Psychology School

Mortada, Samir Perez 05 May 2008 (has links)
This research presents the memories of student activists from the University of São Paulo\'s Psychology School. Methodologically inspired upon Ecléa Bosi\'s book Memory and Society: Recollections of the Old, it aims at establishing temporal interlocutions on political experience during undergraduate years, starting from the recollections of different times and contexts of engagement. Ten testimonies have been accomplished (open ones and with scripts). The main part of this work is made up of three of these interviews, done with older militants who were active in the 1960s and 1970s. Starting from these remembrances, we have striven to set up fields of meaning, themes for study which would enable an interaction between the present and the past. These are: conditions of student life, the university, student politics, the social contrasts experienced by students, the psychology undergraduate course, the suffering of militants, the political destiny of older and younger militants. During our interpretation, passages of other interviews come up (also open and with scripts), which have been done with six younger militants, active in the 1980s and 1990s. Considering the trajectory of the researcher, this study intends to be an attempt, though somewhat over-mature, of student militancy; it aims at contributing to recover the past in its political and transformational sense, especially in regard to issues that involve student militants of today

A Física Moderna e Contemporânea no Ensino Médio: Caminhos para a sala de aula / The modern and contemporary physics in high school : paths to the classroom

Garcia, Ligia Valente de Sá 29 May 2009 (has links)
A significant problem for the introduction of Modern Physics contents in secondary schools physics is considered to be the appropriated selection of themes in curriculum design. To discuss this difficulty, we investigated how contents selections in this field have been accounted in recent physics text books and in local alternative propositions, in physics teaching research area. For analyzing these materials, we considered three major aspects: the introduction of the new ideas and conceptions of science of the twenty century, the concern of technological aspects that could contribute to the comprehension of contemporary world and the potential for discussion of social problems involving modern science impact in society. These three categories are also the major justifications for considering modern and contemporary physics in high school education. We also present two classroom propositions that we developed considering these same categories in selected themes, involving the E=mc2 equation and nuclear physics aspects. The results obtained in these analyze and interventions could contribute for the discussion, selection and future designs of high school curriculum.

Investigating the Substrate Specificity of the Equivalent Papain-like Protease 2 Domain of nsp3 across Alpha- and Beta-Coronaviruses

Jozlyn Clasman (6632228) 11 June 2019 (has links)
<div>The papain-like protease (PLP) domain of nonstructural protein 3 (nsp3) of the coronavirus (CoV) genome promotes viral replication by processing the CoV polyprotein (protease) and also antagonize innate immune responses by deubiquitinating (DUB) and deISGylating (deISG) host substrates. Selectively removing the DUB/deISG activities of PLP while keeping the protease activity intact is a potential strategy for designing a live attenuated virus. However, it is unclear in the literature the precise mechanism by which PLPs support CoV evasion of the innate immune system. Deciphering the substrate specificity of PLPs for host ubiquitin (Ub) and interferon stimulated gene 15 (ISG15) can therefore help in the design of PLP mutants that selectively lack one activity for evaluating the DUB and deISG mechanism in CoV pathogenesis and replication. </div><div> In this dissertation, we investigate the structure and function of the single PLP (PLpro) from beta-CoVs, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), which are dangerous viral pathogens that emerged from a zoonotic source to cause infectious disease in the human population. Additionally, we translate the knowledge gained to the equivalent PLP2 from alpha-CoV porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV), which cause fatal disease in suckling piglets on industrial pork farms and household cats, respectively. The primary objective of this work is to rationally design PLP mutants across beta- and alpha-CoVs to help attenuate CoV infection, as no antiviral or vaccine exist for human CoVs and the efficacy of PEDV vaccines are an ongoing research topic. </div><div><br></div><div>In Chapter 1, different human, animal, and the bat origin CoV strains are introduced. The CoV life-cycle and virion structure are outlined, along with the replicase complex for viral replication. The multidomain nsp3 from alpha- and beta-CoV genomes are also described with a focus on the PLP domain and its proposed cleavage sites of the viral polyprotein. The discovery of the first viral protease DUB and the multiple activities of PLPs are defined, which includes a proposed model of how DUB versus deISG activities may act in the innate immune response. This leads into the therapeutic potential of PLP for an antiviral or live attenuated vaccine, which is followed by the introduction of live attenuated vaccines and the reverse genetics system. Next, proof of concept studies on PLP2 mutants are described and the introduction is concluded by stating the ultimate goal for the design of PLP mutants.</div><div><br></div><div>In Chapter 2, we hypothesize that the flanking ubiquitin-like (Ubl2) domain of MERS-CoV PLpro is not required for its enzymatic function. We characterize the specific activity, kinetics, substrate specificity, and inhibition of the PLpro enzyme with and without the Ubl2 domain and reveal that the Ubl2 domain does not significantly alter PLpro function. We determine the structure of the core PLpro, smallest catalytic unit to 1.9 Å resolution and observed no structural changes compared to the wild-type. Additionally, we demonstrate that a purported MERS-CoV PLpro inhibitor is nonselective in non-reducing conditions and should not be pursed for therapeutic use. We show that the core PLpro enzyme i.e. without the Ubl2 domain is a stable and robust construct for crystallization and is also thermally stable based on thermal melting studies with utility for structure-based drug design. </div><div><br></div><div>In Chapter 3, we shed light on the specificity of SARS-CoV PLpro towards Ub versus ISG15 by characterizing the specific activity and kinetic parameters of SARS-CoV PLpro mutants. In addition, the structure of SARS-CoV PLpro in complex with the C-terminal domain of ISG15 is determined and compared with the Ub-bound structure. Based on the structure and kinetic results, the altered specificities of SARS-CoV PLpro mutants Arg167Glu, Met209Ala, and Gln233Glu are compared with the wild-type. Arg167Glu mutant exhibits DUB hyperactivity and is expected to adopt a more favorable interaction with the Arg42 of Ub. At the same time, ARG167GLU contains a shorter side-chain that hinders interaction with the unique Trp123 of ISG15 for deISG activity compared to the wild-type. These results aid in the development of SARS-CoV PLpro mutants that have directed shifts in substrate specificity for Ub versus ISG15. </div><div><br></div><div>In Chapter 4, the process and antiviral activity of ISGylation is reviewed and how viruses can modulate host-derived versus virus-derived machineries to counteract ISGylation for viral infection. MERS-CoV PLpro is cross-reactive for Ub, but less is known about its specificity towards ISG15. In this study, we determine the structure of MERS-CoV PLpro bound with ISG15 to 2.3 Å resolution and reveal a small hydrophobic pocket of ISG15 that consists of P130 and W123, which differs from Ub hydrophobic patch. We design and determine the kinetic parameters for 13 PLpro mutants and reveal that MERS-CoV PLpro only has a single ubiquitin recognition (SUb1) site. Kinetic studies show that removing the charge of the R1649 greatly enhances DUB/protease activity while mutating in an Arg near R42 of Ub or ISG15 hydrophobic region is detrimental to both DUB/deISG activities. Kinetic experiments and probe-reactivity assays showed that Val1691Arg, Val1691Lys, and His1652Arg mutants are drastically reduced DUB/deISG activities compared to the wild-type. Overall, MERS-CoV PLpro mutants with alter kinetic profiles will be useful for discovery tools and DUB/deISG deficient mutants are great candidates for removing host cell antagonism activity by PLpro for live attenuated vaccines.</div><div><br></div><div>In Chapter 5, the goal is to translate the knowledge gained in Chapters 2-4 on beta-CoVs PLpro and evaluate the substrate specificity of alpha-CoVs FIPV and PEDV PLP2 for mutagenesis experiments. First, we design and purify the core PLP2 enzymes for kinetics. PLP2s are efficient DUBs that prefer Ub to ISG15 in vitro, and this preference is conserved in beta-CoV MHV PLP2 as well as alpha-CoV NL63 PLP2. We determine the structure of alpha-CoV PEDV PLP2 to 1.95 Å resolution and reveal the unique Zn-finger coordinating Cys3-His arrangement of the alpha-CoV genus that differs from past beta-CoV PLP crystal structures. To determine residues of the SUb1 site, we generate a homology model of FIPV PLP2 and overlay our PLP2 structures with MERS-CoV PLpro bound with Ub. In addition, we create electrostatic surface maps across coronaviral PLP subfamilies to evaluate the charge distribution of the SUb1 for the rational design of several FIPV and PEDV PLP2 mutants. We evaluate the turnover of PLP mutants for FRET-based substrates and reveal that His101ArgFIPV and Asn101ArgPEDV are drastically reduced in Ub-AMC activity while their peptide activities are within 2-fold of the wild-type. These mutants show delayed reactivity for Ub probes and no longer cleave Ub-chains displaying isopeptide bonds compared to the wild-type. Results from this study reveal a hot spot in both alpha- and beta-CoVs that can be used to selectively remove DUB activity of PLPs for generating a DUB deficient PLP enzyme. </div><div><br></div><div>In this dissertation, we investigate the substrate specificity of PLPs across alpha- and beta-CoVs and develop a fingerprint for Ub and also shed light on ISG15 recognition. Specifically, hot spots were identified in the SUb1 site of different PLPs, which recognize R42 and hydrophobic Ile44 of Ub. Position 97-98 of PLPs can be used to remove DUB activity by substituting an Arg, but usually effect protease function. Substituting an Arg at position 101 and 136 of coronaviral PLPs serve as the best strategy to remove DUB function while not hindering active site functionality. The DUB/deISG deficient mutants described will be useful for inhibiting the ability of PLPs to function in the innate immune response. Ultimately, this work provides a guide for identifying attenuating mutants in existing CoVs for live attenuated vaccines and also a blueprint for engineering PLPs from new emerging CoVs. </div>

The first chapter portrays the historical trajectory of the University of São Paulo and its Superintendence of Social Service, as well the debate about student assistance regarding the feasibility of free higher education as a human right. The second chapter presents a reflection on the changes caused by productive restructuration in the work progress. Finally, the third chapter analyzes the consequences of service system informatization, besides go on with the analysis of intensification and precarization process of the Social Workers work. The conclusion of our analysis suggests that we are facing a change that uses science and technology in service of big capital, intensifying and precarizing the life and work conditions, which cause physical and mental tiredness. Thus Social Workers as salaried public employee experience the same deleterious effect that experiences the private sector employees. Under these circumstances, we can say that financial capital, and its accumulation strategy, there isn t borders, because it invades as the private sphere as the public sphere, which suggests the need of further reflection on how to resist and to face the dismantling of universal rights / Este estudo teve como objetivos problematizar e aprofundar a reflexão sobre os fenômenos contemporâneos da intensificação, precarização e informatização dos processos de trabalho no cotidiano das assistentes sociais da SAS-USP.

Bargmann Netto, Domingos Luiz 06 October 2000 (has links)
This thesis focuses the audiovisual production pragmactical aspects mainly the video one wich is being made in the University of São Paulo (USP) academic environment. / This research presents the memories of student activists from the University of São Paulo\'s Psychology School.
