The Application of the Extended Technology Acceptance Model in Different Cultural Contexts to Understand Mobile Payment Adoption : A comparative study between China and Sweden

Zhang, Yusha, Zalar, Klavdija January 2020 (has links)
Rapid technological progress has transformed our daily activities. One of these is how we pay for goods. Mobile payment is a payment option with great potential, but it is still struggling to become part of individuals' daily life. Previous research shows that adoption and acceptance of mobile payment vary widely between different countries. It is important to understand the determinants of mobile payment adoption, as cultural differences between countries may be one of the primary reasons for the different degrees of user mobile payment adoption. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors, which influence user adoption of mobile payment in one Asian country, China, and one European country, Sweden. In addition, the aim of the study is to explore the difference in mobile payment adoption from the cultural point of view at an individual level. In this study, two research questions are proposed: what influences user intention to adopt mobile payment in the context of China and Sweden, and how does an individual culture influence user adoption of mobile payment in the context of China and Sweden. The research was conducted with a combination of an extended UTAUT (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) model with the added concept of Perceived Information security and Hofstede's cultural theory. Altogether, it was studied how these concepts influence Behavioural intention.  Based on the literature review of mobile payment adoption by users and Hofstede's culture theory, this study uses qualitative research to interpret the phenomenon on a deeper level with the intention of explaining it. Through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, several conclusions were drawn. The analysis of the results showed that the proposed research model applies to China and Sweden. Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, and Social Influence have influenced the user mobile payment adoption in both studied countries, and Perceived Information Security has a strong influence on users in Sweden. The results also show that Power Distance, Collectivism, and Masculinity have a strong moderating effect on the behavioural intention of users in China, while Collectivism and Femininity have a strong moderating effect on the behavioural intention of users in Sweden. On this basis, it is suggested that cultural factors be incorporated into the research model of technology acceptance, and further research should be conducted in different countries to provide different perspectives.

Mobile Payment Adoption During The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Quantitative Study In Germany

Herget, Niklas, Steinmüller Krey, Philip January 2021 (has links)
Background: Emerging in December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic profoundly changed consumer behaviour leading to social distancing and mitigating physical contact. Statistics show an increased use of contactless and mobile payment usage and adoption during the pandemic. It is unclear how valid previous models on mobile payment adoption explain adoption behaviour in emergency situations. While there are few studies approaching the adoption behaviour during the pandemic, there is also little previous research on mobile payment adoption prior to the pandemic in Germany. Purpose: The present thesis intends to advance several previously researched technological adoption frameworks to focus on and measure consumers’ perception of mobile payment technology adopting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, our model provides a basis to understand mobile payment adoption in Germany during the pandemic. Method: Based on hypotheses derived from an adapted UTAUT2 model, we conducted quantitative deductive research reaching 258 questionnaire participants based in Germany. The empirical data was analysed through structural equation modelling. Conclusion: The findings show that Performance Expectancy still represents the primary driver of intention to adopt mobile payments during the pandemic, yet it is strongly supported by the initially contextualised Contamination Avoidance element and complemented by Habit, Effort Expectancy. Practitioners benefit from the study to better tailor campaigns in accordance with the main driver of adoption behaviour, while our findings contribute new insights into technology adoption in Germany during emergency situations.

Exploring Factors of eHealth Innovation Adoption: A Qualitative Study of Pregnant Women in Sweden

Wang, Runfen January 2021 (has links)
Pregnancy is a sensitive period in women’s lives; pregnant women encounter various physical changes and emotional challenges during pregnancy. The vision for Sweden’s eHealth initiative is to be the best in the world in using eHealth to make it easier for people to achieve a healthy wellbeing and equal welfare by 2025. However, there is a lack of empirical studies in the area, especially studies associated with both eHealth and pregnancy in a Swedish context. Therefore, the thesis intended to seek the factors that affect a pregnant woman to adopt an eHealth innovation by applying qualitative interviews. Eleven women were selected including both women who are currently pregnant and women who have experienced pregnancy in recent years. Semi-structed interviews were chosen to gain more in-depth insights of the challenges during pregnancy. The data analysis followed the framework of Unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). Rogers’ innovation diffusion theory was discussed in relation to the study as well. The results based on the date from the study showed that the real drive for pregnant women to adopt an eHealth innovation is the dissatisfaction with the current solution, namely prenatal care in the Swedish public health care system. Other moderating factors that affect their intention for adoption are relevant knowledge, expertise support and trialability. The results revealed that women with foreign background were more likely to be dissatisfied with prenatal care in Sweden, and that professionals’ involvement in using the innovation and the possibility of experimenting with it will increase the intention of innovation adoption. Age, experience, and personality were not supported in having an impact on innovation adoption in this study. The limitations of the study are transferability and confirmability, where credibility, dependability and authenticity are high in this study.

Innovations in Surgical Training: A Study on the Acceptance of Head-Mounted Smart Cameras : Perspectives from Surgical Workshops in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Vejbrink Kildal, Hedvig, Fisshatzion, Anna January 2024 (has links)
Addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals is critical for improving access to safe surgery in low- and middle-income countries. Patient safety precautions in surgical training include restricting the number of trainees present in the operating room, imposing limitations on how many surgeons can be trained simultaneously. The use of head-mounted cameras is suggested as a means to enhance and make surgical training more accessible by enabling remote viewing of surgical procedures from the surgeon's point-of-view. This research explores healthcare professionals' acceptance of incorporating a head-mounted smart camera as a complementary tool in surgical training. The case study, conducted during three surgical training workshops in Kenya and Ethiopia, utilized a modified UTAUT model. Questionnaires and five semi-structured interviews were employed, revealing a high level of technology acceptance. While some drawbacks were noted, overall positivity was expressed. The smart camera did in many ways align well with the needs of surgeons and anesthesiologists. Challenges mainly revolved around facilitating conditions such as poor connectivity and costs. Although the smart camera in many aspects enhanced the efficiency of surgical training, the findings highlight its inability to fully replace direct observation in the operating room.
