Eye‐tracking är en metod för användartester. Det kan visa var testpersoner tittar, vad de missar och  vad som väcker uppmärksamhet. Ett problem med eye‐tracking i nuläget är dess dåliga precision.  Mobiler och andra mobila enheters skärmyta kan vara väldigt liten, vilket resulterar i att det inte finns  mycket rum för fel i en eye‐tracker. Syftet med den undersökning som rapporteras här är att  utvärdera problemen med eye‐tracking i utvärderingar av användargränssnitt för mobila enheter. För  att utvärdera detta har några tester utformade av mig utförts, där testpersonerna har fått välja  mellan att använda sin egen telefon, en iPhone 7 eller en iPad och sedan utfört några uppgifter på  olika applikationer/hemsidor. Pilottester från ett projekt vid namn CREDENTIAL har även bidragit till  denna studie där testpersonerna har fått utföra eye‐tracking‐tester på en Microsoft Surface Pro.  Resultaten är presenterade i form av grafiska representationer av datan, med hjälp av heat maps och  gaze plots. Resultaten visar hur problemen med eye‐tracking för mobila enheter kan störa  användartester för system på mobila enheter.

Os dispositivos médicos desempenham um papel crucial na gestão de doenças crônicas, e são utilizados por diferentes usuários, em configurações variadas de ambientes, para o tratamento de diferentes doenças com diferentes níveis de gravidade. Esta dissertação tem por objetivo contribuir na captação, mensuração e análise da percepção do usuário em relação ao uso do dispositivo médico. Como objetivos secundários, tem-se: (i) analisar na literatura abordagens e técnicas de avaliação da usabilidade de dispositivos médicos sob a perspectiva do usuário; (ii) desenvolver e ilustrar, através de um estudo de caso com pacientes de hemodiálise, uma metodologia para avaliação da usabilidade de dispositivos médicos; e (iii) apresentar um procedimento de análise para avaliar a usabilidade de dispositivos médicos na perspectiva do paciente de hemodiálise, identificando quais características do contexto de uso podem afetar esta avaliação. Para atingir os objetivos de pesquisa, a dissertação é composta por três artigos que contemplam cada um dos objetivos mencionados anteriormente. No primeiro artigo foram avaliados 42 estudos, na qual cinco abordagens foram mais comumente utilizadas: entrevista, testes de usabilidade, percurso cognitivo, observação e questionário. Para o segundo e terceiro artigos, um estudo de caso com pacientes de hemodiálise foi conduzido. Questionários estruturados foram aplicados para pacientes em ambientes reais de uso, contendo questões a cerca da percepção de uso (máquina, procedimento e ambiente). No segundo artigo uma metodologia para avaliação centrada no usuário de dispositivos médicos foi proposta. Um fluxo detalhado foi gerado, composto por três etapas: planejamento, estudo de campo e análise dos dados, desdobrados em nove subetapas. No terceiro artigo, duas técnicas estatísticas, a Análise de Variância Multivariada (MANOVA) e Análise Fatorial Exploratória (AFE), foram empregadas para investigar a existência de diferenças nos níveis de satisfação do usuário com os aspectos de uso, além da extração de um menor número de fatores para explicar a satisfação geral do usuário. / Medical devices play a crucial role in chronic disease management, and are used by different users in different environments settings for the treatment of different diseases with different levels of severity. This dissertation aims at contributing to the capture, user perception of measurement and analysis regarding the use of the medical device. As secondary objectives, we have: (i) review the literature approaches and techniques for assessing the usability of medical devices in the user's perspective; (Ii) develop and illustrate through a case study of hemodialysis patients, a methodology for evaluating the usability of medical devices; and (iii) present an analysis procedure to evaluate the usability of medical devices in the hemodialysis patient's perspective, identifying context of use characteristics may affect this assessment. To achieve the research objectives, the dissertation consists of three articles that address each of the objectives mentioned above. In the first article were evaluated 42 studies in which five approaches have been most commonly used: interview, usability testing, cognitive route, observation and questionnaire. For the second and third articles, a case study of hemodialysis patients was conducted. Structured questionnaires were administered to patients in actual use environments, with questions about the perception of use (machine, process and environment). In the second article a methodology to assess user-centric medical device has been proposed. A detailed flow was generated, consisting of three stages: planning, field of study and analysis of the data, broken down into nine sub-steps. In the third article, two technical statistics, Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) were employed to investigate the existence of differences in user satisfaction levels with aspects of use, and the extraction of a minor number of factors to explain the overall user satisfaction.

Com o crescente aumento do número de dispositivos móveis no mercado, surge a possibilidade dos usuários carregarem consigo diversos livros em formato digital. Estes livros, originalmente desenvolvidos para outros formatos, apresentam vícios, e em alguns casos falhas, que prejudicam e confundem o usuário. Por este motivo surgem os livros digitais interativos, que nada mais são do que livros projetados especificamente para estes dispositivos móveis. Mas junto com estes produtos surgem dúvidas a respeito de quais embasamentos devem ser utilizados. Neste contexto, a presente pesquisa analisa se os conhecimentos relacionados a experiência do usuário, ao design de interação, ao design de informação, e ao design de interface, vinculados as bases teóricas utilizadas para o desenvolvimento de livros impressos, jornais/revistas digitais e aplicativos, podem orientar o processo de projeto e desenvolvimento de livros digitais interativos. O resultado desta analise permite realizar um levantamento, e consequentemente criar um guia de diretrizes que servirá como embasamento para o futuros desenvolvimento de livros digitais interativos. / The increasing number of mobile devices on the market, arises the possibility for users to carry several books in a digital format. These books, originally developed for other formats, have addictions, and in some cases failures, that hinder and confuse the user. In this scenario arise the interactive digital books, which are nothing more than books designed specifically for these mobile devices. But along with these products new doubts show up. In this context, the present study examines whether the knowledge related to the user experience, the interaction design, the information design, and interface design, tied the theoretical bases used for the development of printed books, newspapers / magazines and digital applications can guide the process of design and development of interactive digital books. The result of this analysis allows to conduct this work, and thus create guidelines that will serve as basis for the future development of interactive digital books.

Este relatório apresenta o desenvolvimento e os resultados de uma pesquisa sobre a usabilidade do Dosvox, sistema gratuito desenvolvido na UFRJ e utilizado por cegos no desempenho de suas tarefas com o uso de computadores, inclusive para interação com a Web. Por meio de pesquisa exploratória baseada na observação da interação de estudantes cegos com a Web, foram identificados problemas de usabilidade na interface do Dosvox e do Webvox, programa que faz parte do sistema e é utilizado no acesso a sítios eletrônicos na Web. Embora tenha havido uma grande preocupação em se desenvolver o Dosvox com foco no usuário iniciante, em entrevistas estruturadas com os desenvolvedores descobriu-se que os problemas estavam relacionados com o fato de a interface ser projetada de acordo com o modelo mental desses profissionais de Informática. Isso dificulta o seu uso por pessoas menos habituadas com estes conceitos. Somou-se a esses resultados informações encontradas na observação de cegos especialistas em acessibilidade usando o Dosvox na interação com a Web. Após a observação, foram realizadas entrevistas estruturadas, permitindo que fossem apontados outros problemas do sistema, além de caminhos de melhoria para a usabilidade do Dosvox. / This report presents development and results of a research about usability of Dosvox, free system developed in the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and used by blind people in the performance of their tasks with the use of computers, including the interaction with the Web. Through exploratory research based on the observation of the interaction of blind students with the Web, usability problems were identified in the Dosvox interface and in the Webvox, that is a program which is part of the system and is used to access the electronic sites on the Web. While there has been a major concern to develop the Dosvox with focus on novice users, structured interviews with the system developers discovered that the problems were related to the fact that the interface is designed in accordance with the mental model of these Information Technology professionals. This fact hampers its use by people less accustomed to these concepts. In addition to these results, information found on observation of blind specialists in accessibility using Dosvox in the interaction with the Web was realized. After this observation, structured interviews were conducted, an other problems in the system were highlighted, added to proposals of usability improving to Dosvox.

A presente pesquisa Design de jornal impresso: a relação entre formato e usabilidade tem como principal objetivo reforçar a importância do envolvimento do usuário no design de produtos, através da compreensão da influência que o formato definido pelo tamanho das páginas e organização dos cadernos exerce sobre a usabilidade do jornal impresso. São apresentados os aspectos tecnológicos e econômicos relacionados a esse produto e verificado a influência exercida por eles sobre o formato. É feito um mapeamento sobre os principais aspectos do design de jornais e sobre os diferentes formatos de jornais, suas origens e sua relevância para o design de jornais. Busca-se mapear o formato dos jornais em diferentes mercados e os possíveis impactos das mudanças de formato na circulação, no conteúdo e na publicidade dos jornais impressos. Faz-se uma revisão do panorama atual dos jornais eletrônicos e suas possíveis interferências nos hábitos de leitura. Revisa-se a bibliografia referente à usabilidade, concentrando-se na metodologia de design de documentos e sua aplicabilidade para testes de usabilidade em jornais impressos. Por fim, descreve-se a pesquisa de campo através de entrevistas com especialistas em design de jornais, de observações sistemáticas em gráficas de jornal e sobre o mercado de jornais impressos da cidade do Rio de Janeiro e de testes de usabilidade aplicados a jornais. Conclui-se que, considerando o público participante dos testes profissionais que trabalham com impressão de jornais , apenas o aspecto do formato relacionado à organização dos cadernos parece exercer influência sobre a usabilidade dos jornais. / This research Newspapers design: the relationship between format and usability - has a main objective to reinforce the importance of user involvement in product design, by understanding the influence that the format defined here by the size of the pages and sections organization has on the usability of the printed newspaper. Presents the technological and economic aspects related to this product and verifies the influence exerted by them on the format. Maps the main aspects of newspaper design and the different formats of newspapers, its origins and its relevance to its design. It attempts to map the format of the newspapers in different markets and the possible impact of format changes in the circulation, content and advertising of printed newspapers. Reviews of the current landscape of electronic journals and their possible interference in reading habits. Reviews also the literature on usability, focusing on documents design methodology and its application in usability tests for newspapers. Finally, describes the field research through interviews with newspaper design experts, systematic observations in newspaper printing facilities and on the newspaper market in the city of Rio de Janeiro and application of usability testing for newspapers. It concludes that, considering the public participating in trials professionals who work printing newspapers only aspect of the format related to the sections organizations seems to exert influence on the usability of the newspapers.

Efetuou-se tal verificação por meio de três parâmetros: eficácia ( teste de assimilação do texto ), eficiência ( tempo de leitura ) e satisfação ( opinião do leitor ), os quais possibilitaram determinar o nível de usabilidade da interface de um objeto dentro de uma escala com intervalo de níveis (Ótimo, Bom, Satisfatório e Péssimo ). Os dados dos grupos amostrais obtidos foram tratados por estatística inferencial, sendo dois grupos para cada uma das fontes tipográficas as quais foram lidas em cada um dos suportes. O texto padronizado utilizado faz parte de um conjunto de textos utilizados na Oftalmologia para testes de velocidade de leitura. Os resultados obtidos permitiram verificar que não há influência significativa no nível de usabilidade de leitura de um texto padronizado composto com diferentes fontes tipográficas. O tempo médio de leitura da amostra foi 51,87 ( ± 16,51 ) segundos, em uma escala que variou de 1-106,13 segundos. O número de acertos médios nas cinco questões do teste de interpretação foi 2,90 ( ± 1,64 ) numa escala de 0-5 acertos. A taxa média de satisfação dos leitores em relação as fontes tipográficas verificadas foi 66,24 % ( ± 20,94 ), numa escala de 0-100%. O método utilizado para se calcular a taxa de usabilidade das fontes foi a média aritmética entre as taxas percentuais dos três parâmetros já descritos. As taxas de usabilidade foram distribuídas na escala de usabilidade de quatro níveis onde se verificou que todas fontes apresentaram uma taxa de usabilidade próxima a 60 %, equivalendo, portanto, a um bom nível de usabilidade. Concluiu-se que os traços comuns das letras e a equiparação da altura-x pode equilibrar o nível de usabilidade de diferentes fontes tipográficas na leitura tarefa. / Research to verify the usability level of typographic compositions of texts with four fonts (Rockwell, Garamond, Franklin Gothic and Bodoni) on the task of reading, as in white paper media reading as in digital display reading (LCD). Such verification was performed by three parameters: effectiveness (interpretation test), efficiency (reading time) and satisfaction (reader's opinion), which had enabled to determine the usability level of the interface of an object within a scale range of levels (Excellent, Good, Satisfying and Poorly). The data sample groups obtained were processed by inferential statistical, being two groups for each of the typographical fonts, which had been read in each media. The standardized text is part of a set of texts used in Ophthalmology to measure the reading speed. The results obtained allowed to verify that there is no influence on reading usability of a standardized text composed with different typographical fonts. The average reading time of the subjects was 51.87 (± 16.51) seconds on a scale ranging from 1 to 106.13 seconds. The average hits on the five questions from the interpretation test was 2.90 (± 1.64) on a scale 0-5 hits. The average rate of satisfaction of the readers about the typographic fonts checked was 66.24% (± 20.94), on a scale of 0-100%. The usability rates were distributed in a four-level usability scale, where it was found that all the fonts showed a close usability rate near to 60%, indicating a good level of usability. It concluded that the commonality between letterforms and equalization of x-height balances the level of usability among different fonts in task reading.

The teachers at Linköpings University are currently using an emailclient to handle the sharing of information between teachers involved ina course. This is inefficient due to the difficulty of sharing existinginformation with new course memebers, sharing new information with existingcourse members and finding specific information is an issue because of thelack of course separation. Some features, such as handing over a courseto a new leading teacher, are also lacking which makes course managementdifficult. To solve this issue, we have developed a web application whichfocuses on its usability and efficiency to make it easier for coursestaff to share course information. By performing usability and efficiencytests where test subjects used the new application as well as the oldemail system we established that the newly developed application with itsadditional features became an improvement over the old email system.

This report examines the relationship between usability and subjective judgments about aesthetic and emotional aspects of users of a web production. Through the development of two prototypes that reflects different aspects of usability and subjective assessments examined the consequences of a differentiation of the concepts and Usability and Likeability. Thereafter, an evaluation of the two prototypes are made through user testing. Finally, the results of the evaluation is presented and are related to the concepts of usability and likeability.
