It is common that, in discussions on violence, the biological aspects are emphasized, printing in it an inatist character. We defend, however, the thesis that violence is not innate in the individuals, that they appropriate themselves of violent forms of relationship in the development process. Therefore, the school and the teachers, that play the basic role of mediators in the construction of the process of sociability of the individuals, can contribute in the construction of relations that do without violence. For the accomplishment of this work, we used the theoretical contributions of the dialectical and historical materialism, historical and cultural Psychology and the theory of the daily life of Agnes Heller. We investigated, by means of questionnaires, interviews and group processes, the following aspects: 1 -) the reality of violence in schools and its implications in the daily activity of the teacher; 2 -) the concept of violence underlying teacher s practices; 3 -) how the teachers think that people learn (if they learn) to relate by means of violence; and 4 -) which conceptions of development were underlying to the representation they had of violence. The intervention carried through during the development of this research, related to the process of continued formation of teachers, had as objective to offer theoretical-methodological subsidies to assist them in overcoming the daily-life representations of violence, in direction to a critical concept that contributed for confrontation, in the scope of the teacher s activity, of the situations permeated by the use of violence. In the group processes, it was possible to face many of the immediate questions in relation to violence in the school. However, for the construction of social relations in schools that do without the use of violence, it becomes necessary to develop formative actions to all the actors of the school: teachers, students, parents, direction, employees, and external agents: family, community agents, etc. In the research process, it was confirmed that teachers bore concepts of violence based on inatist or religious perspectives, that made it impossible for them to face it, even in those situations where we could intervene. One concludes, also, that it is possible to extend the limits of understanding of the phenomenon of violence by means of the appropriation of scientific knowledge that show that violence is historically and socially conditioned, or either: men, in its relations, are the ones who determine its use and reach. We observed that, in the path in direction to the abolition of violence, we will face the need to overcome alienation, given that, objectively, is has its roots in the economic and social structure and is not, therefore, a metaphysical entity. This work presented a concrete contribution of researchers, research assistants, professors, school board, family members and students who think it is possible to do without the use of the violence in the school and social relations / Este estudo caracteriza-se como uma pesquisa intervenção que teve como foco a violência nas escolas.

Violences in school context: a view freirean.

Alice Akemi Yamasaki 03 April 2007 (has links)
Some reflections are presented in this work trying to account for various kinds of violence observed to exist in the school context. Violence is here understood as a social and historical manifestation of a multiplicity of complex dimensions and factors, which interact with the cultural environment of the school. We are dealing here with a theoretical investigation primarily based on a documentary study of school violence and, additionally, in a study of municipal public schools in São Paulo. One of the main objectives with this study was to identify the various dimensions of violence in the school context. This was done by presenting a synthesis of available readings of the world (\"leitura do mundo\") concerning this topic, based on the analysis of various studies carried out after the 1990s. Moreover, another aim with this thesis was to characterize violence as a theme addressed by Paulo Freire in various of his works. Whereby he made explicitly identified some dimensions of violence both to denounce them as well as to point towards alternative possibilities to construct another possible world. In the review of the literature dealing with school violence, we gave priority to research results found in books and scientific articles. Thematic study and text analysis were included among the various methodological and social research techniques used in this work to support our theoretical constructs and also as guidelines for our documentary work. The concluded that school violence must be considered in two distinct planes. On the one hand, with reference to the material and objective losses and different kinds of physical aggresions. On the other hand, taking into account the symbolic dimension, one refers to the subtle imposition of inappropiate meanings attached to the violent acts in the community, with a particular emphasis on the rejection of \"otherness\", and a growing sense of insecurity, fear and distrust in the realm of interpersonal relations. Paulo Freire\'s prescription for overcoming this kind of violence lies, in the response potential of the oppressed to confront the necrophilic conscience inherent in violent gestures and actions. The oppressed, by assuming their vocation to be human, to value life, to raise over and above mean and individualistic values and interests. By assuming love as their preferred instrument of their struggle, they will be able to construct another civilization, more human, less oppresive and more just. Taking into account the reflections of Paulo Freire on the matter of school violence, here approached as a subject for investigation and reflection, lead us to understand that it is possible to historically confront it in both the social and school realms. This work points to a renewed potential of the public and popular school, when based in the critical and progressive conceptions and practices of education. A kind of school that must be (historically) constructed as a space of concietization, struggle and of confrontation against all the various manifestations of violence inflicted and adversely affecting the potential victims. We find that dialogue, dialogic and liberating education constitute some of the fertile ways we have at our disposal to attain our aims of diminishing both physical and symbolic violence in the school context and culture.

Skolattacker : Kommuners förberedelser för skolattacker / School attacks : Municipalities’ preparedness for active shooter events in schools

Grape, Sandra January 2023 (has links)
Introduction School attacks are a rare and complex phenomena, the occurrence of which is increasing in Sweden. School attacks may have extensive implications for the local community, but also for the perception of school as a safe and secure place. Cooperation between many organisations is necessary to prevent and prepare for a school attack, as well as minimise the effects during and after one occurs. Municipalities have a special role in the coordination and preventative work regarding serious accidents and injuries, along with the responisbility for school and education in the municipality. The governance of Sweden is complex, and encompasses many laws, regulations, directives, guidelines and advice. Due to the municipal self-governance, the organisation surrounding the prevention of school attacks may vary between differing municipalities. Purpose The purpose of the study is to examine the similarities and differences in the policies and action plans that exist to prevent and handle school attacks in a sample of municipalities.  Method Data has been collected through requesting public documents regarding ongoing deadly violence in schools (school attacks) from a sample of municipalities. Policy analysis was performed through use of qualitative content analysis of said documents. The information revealed during the data gathering has also been added to the study.  Result This study shows that the request of documentation was treated very differently by the municipalities. There were organisational differences between the municipalities regarding who answered the request, as well as the title and role of the person responsible for the creation and upkeep of the action plans. Both the design and the contents of the action plans varied between the municipalities. Despite this, there were indications of an interest to work preventative against school attacks, with special attention on the ongoing act and the events following an attack. All municipalities have at least partially conformed to the guidelines of Skolverket, though some municipalities also used previous research, most of which was American.  Conclusions All municipalities had some type of governance and action plan regarding violence in schools, though not all had specified school attacks as a phenomena. At the same time, there were large differences in how the action plans were created, who was responsible for the creation and maintenance thereof, as well as the organisations behind them.
