Propuesta de implementación de un sistema de gestión de almacenes en una empresa manufacturera del rubro minero / Proporsal of implementation of a warehouse management system in a manufacturing company in the mining heading

Reátegui Ruiz, Giamcarlo, Sánchez Chanllio, Carla Alejandra, Vilcherrez Barriga, Carlos Mario, Zavala Diaz, Jannisse Aylin 17 October 2019 (has links)
The company in question is a family business dedicated to the manufacture of rubber and polyurethane products mainly for the mining industry. The turnover corresponding to 2018 was 15.5 MM PEN approximately. The company has around 150 employees it also has two premises separated by a lot belonging to another company. Actually the company has canceled orders from customer of 165 thousand PEN because of a non-compliance on the delivery date. In addition within the product cost structure, the sandblasting process (outsourcing) has a higher cost compared to the average on the industry. Due to the growth of the mining industry and the lack of a warehouse management system in the company, there is a lack of space for a) the implementation of some process that is currently outsourced and b) to increase the capacity of the plant. The main purpose is to improve the spaces used in the company's mold warehouse, including the remodeling of storage environments in order to implement the sandblasting process in-house. The solution proposals are intended to improve the management of the warehouse by changing the arrangement of the location of the molds in it and the use of barcodes to know their status. This generates an increase in sales, improves customer service and reduces the cost of the sandblasting process since it would no longer be outsourced. The proposed implementation of the new warehouse management system implies the use of the 5S methodology, the use of information technologies (barcode, software, among others) and the implementation of racks that generate spaces for the installation of the area for the in-house sandblasting process. / Trabajo de investigación

Development of a recycling centerthrough design thinking

Nilsson, Filip January 2021 (has links)
Tarkett AB is one of the world's largest companies that manufacture floors and operates in over 100 countries. Tarkett Ronneby is one of two larger recycling centers the company possesses, and they are currently recycling all of the spare material and waste material from the manufacturing processes. Customers to Tarkett are lately offered to bring back used floors to recycle the material. Currently, Tarkett is annually importing and recycling 17 000 tons of material from the production and their customers, and the amount of material handled is estimated to increase to 30 000 tons per year. To handle the amount of material Tarkett Ronneby is going to build a new recycling center. The initial research questions for this master thesis were:• How to dimension the recycling center to handle the predetermined capacity?• How to organise the transport of materials to handle the predetermined capacity? On a higher level, this contribution has also highlighted several findings in relation to the following research question:• How can Design Thinking be used in practice to design a warehouse? To answer the question of whether design thinking can be used as a method for developing a recycling center, this was used as a method. Design thinking was used in all the steps of the development process - to know about both explicit and tacit needs related to the development of the recycling center. Company visits allowed to emphasise with the different stakeholders for the solution, getting in touch with employees and learn more about the processes connected to the recycling center. During the ideation phase, brainstorming has been used to create ideas focusing on smaller parts of a solution. The generated ideas have been combined to create final ideas which were prototyped in a digital environment and the first two were also simulated in discrete-event simulation software. The result was more insights into the problem and an iteration to the define phase was conducted. The iterative nature of the Design Thinking process also meant that new needs were stated along the process and the research questions were redefined to the following:• How shall the predetermined units be stored to fit in the predetermined storage area?To solve this question, the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) was used to systematically explore solution strategies for the given problem and propose original ideas. The result is a final prototype in a digital environment showing how the structure of the units stored in the recycling center will look like. According to the model the warehouse will only consist of stackable units and the tent will consist of both stackable and non-stackable units. From the results, it is clear that an investment must be done to store the desired amount of units in the tent and in narrow aisle forklifts. The main future work will be to contact the forklift supplier used at Tarkett Ronneby, STILL, and order GX-X/GX-Q-forklifts, lay a concrete slab, and to update the placing software to cope with the changes and to maintain a high placing accuracy of the units.

Saliba, Elias January 2021 (has links)
At SSI-Schäfer System International in Norrköping, continuous improvements and projectsare underway to streamline the customer's production. An area of improvement that has beenparticularly interesting in recent times has been the production flow between the warehousemanagement system (the shuttle system) and the packing stations and at the packing stations. This report presents a case study on improvement potential and measures for improvementpotential, based on existing company documentation and interviews at the company, as wellas surveys of the production flow at the customer. The implementation of the study is dividedinto four main phases, I. Mapping of production, II. Presentation of identified potential forimprovement and waste, III. Identification of rotor causes for improvement potential andwaste and IV. Development of improvement proposals. The first two phases are to understandthe production and present identified potential for improvement and waste. In the third phase, rotor causes for improvement potential and waste are identified, in the fourth phase, improvement proposals are presented.Presentation of identified improvement potential and waste resulted in the project being ableto focus on 5 important improvement potentials, 1. Deadlocks, 2. Tote boxes that get stuck, 3.Pull the large box, 4. Stop sequencer 1, 5. Printers at GTP-stations (packing stations).Identification of rotor causes for improvement potential and waste was carried out usingIshikawa diagrams for each improvement potential together with operators at theGTP-stations and the RM-team. This resulted in 1. Lack of transferpoints, 2. Weightdistribution in the tote boxes, 3. The operators do not have access to the conveyor belt, 4.Tote boxes are not looped, 5. Placement of printers. To address the potential forimprovement, the following improvements were proposed: 1. Build another lift, 2. Mountwasher and plug, 3. Adjust the autobag machine, 4. Loop the tote boxes, 5. Place printers ontable extensions or shelf closer to operators at GTP-stations. It is recommended that thecompany continue its work by further examining proposed improvement proposals toimplement improvement proposals to reduce the potential for improvement and waste.

A study on how a model can be developed in order to make a warehouse cost index useful in a company with geographically dispersed warehouses

Pavlovic, Anica, Johnsson, Sara January 2015 (has links)
Background: Globalization has created a growing need for companies to remain competitive. It’s becoming more important to manage costs effectively in organizations. Based on a case company problems regarding measurement and comparability of management in warehouse costs between geographically dispersed countries has been identified. Currently there’s no method available for comparison of cost-efficiency of warehouse costs in different countries. The country-specific characteristics create differences. In order to achieve comparability adapted financial control is needed. Purpose: The purpose is to develop a model that enables a homogeneous measurement for management of warehouse costs in different countries. With the intention to make possible comparability between geographically dispersed warehouses. The case study will develop a complement to the existing decision-making. With the aim to support the organization’s decision-making process for warehouse optimization. Method: A motivation for methodological choices made during the study will be presented here. We have first evaluated the existing instrument and then implemented the model in relation to criteria for content- and process characteristics, in order to achieve the aims of the study. Material for the study was collected through the multinational company and by semi-structured interviews with three employees from the company. The section justifies the choice of theory and empirical content used. In the analysis a justification for whether the development of the model leads to the study’s conclusion. Conclusion: Organizations have previously used performance measurements for their financial control of warehouse costs. The increased globalization has complicated the comparability due to country-specific variables that affect costs. Warehouse cost indexes have been developed through a model that takes into account a standardized basket of goods that are relatable to warehouse costs. The capital structure becomes neutralized and internal benchmarking enables such that all warehouse costs can be compared in order to how cost-efficient each and every are.

[en] WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (WMS): THEORETICAL CONCEPTS AND IMPLEMENTATION AT A DISTRIBUTION CENTER / [pt] WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (WMS): CONCEITOS TEÓRICOS E IMPLEMENTAÇÃO EM UM CENTRO DE DISTRIBUIÇÃO

MONICA COUTINHO DE BARROS 25 October 2005 (has links)
[en] Nowadays, in a competitive business environment, when the information of technology is well used it becomes of a great value among companies that search for excellence in customer relationship attendance. Therefore, more and more often, the companies are searching for alternatives to ease the management of activities, increasing control, reducing costs and getting important information that can result in quicker decisions and consequently improve the level of the service. Recently, the WMS is being implemented in general by the biggest logistics operators. A Booz Allen & Hamilton´s research in partnership with the Center of Studies in Logistic in 2001 (CEL-Coppead) evidenced that up to 50% of the logistic operators have already been using this technology (Costa et al., 2001). Due to the growth of WMS use and the possibility for the author to participate in an implementation of this technology in a company during her Master Research, the objectives of this work are: to map the operation of the Alpha Company´s Distribution Center (DC) before WMS implementation; and analyze the WMS implementation process in a DC that is in operation. Since the author was part of the team in the implementation of WMS in the Alpha Company, the methodology used for the elaboration of this work included: bibliographical research, visits in loco to the Alpha Company´s DC and non structuralized interviews with the involved parts in the operation. As a result of this work, we have an analysis of the operation before and during the implementation of the WMS in line with the main results of the simulations, given that until the present moment, due to strategic changes in implementation chronogram the WMS still has not become a reality in the Alpha Company.
