Lodní doprava na kanálu Rýn - Mohan - Dunaj / Shipping on the Rhine-Main-Danube-Canal

This paper surveys the inland water transportation on the Rhine-Main-Danube-Canal. Beginning with a consideration of the inland water transportation in Europe in the analysis, it briefly describes the canal's evolution and fundamental terms, which are related to the water-ways. The last part of the first chapter is dedicated to the comparison of several traffic carriers. In the second chapter the two predecessors of the Rhine-Main-Danube-Canal and the motivations to their construction are reviewed. In the more detailed inspection of the formation of the RMD-Canal, the crucial institutions, which are involved in this domain, are described. Besides the corporation "Rhein-Main-Donau AG", the "Deutscher Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverein Rhein-Main-Donau e.V." and the "Wasser- und Schifffahrtsdirektion Süd" belong to it. The third part of the available paper analyzes the shipping on the RMD-Canal and on the German part of the Danube out of an economic-geographical perception. Regarded are not only differences in shipping on the Rhine, on the canal itself and on the Danube, but also the charges for using the canal and for the locking of ships. Moreover, the RMD-Canal is observed out of the traffic-geographical aspect, whilst also analysing the prognoses in comparison to the reality of the amount of shipping. The present time situation is illustrated by the example of the amount of cargo, which has been transported in the last years. At the end of the paper the problematic passage between Straubing and Vilshofen and the solution of the abolishment of this bottleneck is described.

Les technologies de captage, transport et stockage du CO2 ont pour finalité de capter le CO2 issu des industries afin de le stocker géologiquement et ainsi, réduire l impact de ces activités sur le réchauffement climatique. L Axe-Seine (Paris Le Havre) est un territoire très industrialisé et fortement émetteur de CO2. Dans ce territoire, les décideurs locaux envisagent l utilisation des technologies de CTSC afin de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre. L objectif de notre recherche est de comprendre les futurs possibles de ces technologies dans l Axe-Seine. Dans cette perspective, cette thèse analyse tout d'abord le fonctionnement des technologies de CTSC dans une approche de sociologie des sciences et des techniques et les promesses technoscientifiques initiales associées à ce dispositif technique. Ensuite, cette recherche examine les dynamiques socio-spatiales de la vallée de la Seine concernant l'environnement. Enfin, cette thèse par une exploration des récits relatifs aux technologies de CTSC par les promoteurs de ce dispositif technique et des parties prenantes locales, identifie les hybridations potentielles entre ce dispositif technique et les dynamiques socio-spatiales de l'Axe-Seine. Ainsi est-il possible de décrire les futurs possibles des technologies dans l'Axe-Seine. Par ailleurs, dans cette recherche nous questionnons également la place des sciences sociales au côté des sciences de la vie et de la matière dans la dynamique de l'innovation technologique. / Carbon Capture and Storage enables industrial facilities to capture their CO2 emissions in order to geologically store it and then reduce their impact on global warming. The Seine Waterway Axis (from Paris to Le Havre) counts a lot of industrial facilities emitting huge quantities of CO2. From 2006 local stakeholders of this territory are willing to develop CCS to a commercial scale in order to reduce CO2 emissions.In our research we aim to understand potential futures of CCS technology in the Seine Waterway Axis. In this Phd thesis we first analyse initial technoscientific promises related to Carbon Capture and Storage in using Science and Technology Studies theoretical framework. Then we focus on the Seine Waterway Axis territorial dynamics regarding sustainable development. Finnaly, we focus on narratives related to Carbon Capture and Storage in the Seine Waterway Axis in order to identify hybridations between CCS implementations and territorial dynamics. These cross analysis will enable us to describe potential future of CCS establishment in the Seine Waterway Axis.

Collaboration and More-Than-Human Interactions in Conservation Research About National Historic Waterways in Ontario

Relationships between humans and the environment are messy and complex. This thesis makes sense of this complexity by using relational approaches to bridge social-ecological systems research with insights from the more-than-human social sciences and humanities. I focus on the case of environmental governance and conservation research in two of Ontario's National Historic Waterways: the Rideau Canal and the Trent-Severn Waterway. I analyze knowledge maps of factors that influence the environment of the waterways and the perception of relationships between humans and non-humans in the context of research. Through social-ecological network analysis, it was revealed different that groups conceptualize the Rideau Canal differently, but that all groups overemphasized social factors when identifying components that influence the environment. Knowledge maps, representing participants' mental models of the Rideau Canal, are used to generate narratives to inform policy and engagement strategies. Social-ecological network analysis was also used to make visible the different types of relationships between humans and non-humans in the context of conservation research. This unveiled a paradox of conservation. Attempts to produce evidence to conserve non-human populations and habitats are anchored in tense encounters, and sometimes procedures that are harmful for the individuals targeted by the research. I mobilize relational approaches and concepts from the social sciences to propose practical and theoretical insights and pathways for conservation research to become more-than-human. Such work necessitates the explicit recognition of the contributions of non-humans in research processes.

A Perceptional Comparison of Wood in Separate Infrastructure Markets

Decision-makers involved in material choice decisions in the United States infrastructure were surveyed to identify factors which are important in the material choice decision and to determine the perceptions of wood in various infrastructure applications. This information led to the development of strategies to increase the use of wood in infrastructure markets across the US. The highway, marine/inland waterway, railroad and utility systems composed the four markets representing the US infrastructure. A total of 2344 questionnaires were mailed nationwide. The perceptions of wood were further defined through personal interviews with 112 individuals in four geographically dispersed states. The most important factors in material choice decisions were durability, maintenance and cost. Environmental impact, ease of design and innovativeness of material were less important in the material choice decision. Highway and marine/inland waterway respondents perceived wood to be among the lowest materials in overall performance. Railroad and utility respondents perceived wood to have significantly better overall performance than highway and marine/inland waterway respondents. Respondents perceived wood's advantages to be its aesthetically pleasing appearance, low initial cost, ease in repair and ease in field modification. They perceived the disadvantages of wood to be high life-cycle costs, high maintenance requirements and low biological decay resistance. Several strategies are suggested to increase wood use in infrastructure, including: greater market approach by the wood products industry, improved timber structure design details, and increased service life of wood through improved chemical preservative treatments. / Master of Science

O presente estudo avalia a percepção de potenciais usuários da Hidrovia Tocantins-Araguaia sobre seus possíveis impactos econômicos, sociais e ambientais em 7 municípios, no Estado do Tocantins. Foram entrevistados 24 indivíduos representantes do poder público, da iniciativa privada, de entidades de classe e de organizações não-governamentais ambientalistas. Como evidência de campo, verificou-se que, no rio Araguaia, a limitada infra-estrutura operacional, instalada em 1998, está completamente deteriorada e que as embarcações estão sem uso desde 2000. No rio Tocantins, verificou-se a inexistência de eclusas que permitam vencer os desníveis naturais mais agressivos, aumentando a navegabilidade e possibilitando o tráfego dos comboios. Diante disso, pode-se afirmar que a Hidrovia ainda está longe de se consolidar como um modal de transporte alternativo para o Estado. Quanto à opinião dos entrevistados, de modo geral,consideram interessante, oportuna e estratégica a presença da Hidrovia Tocantins-Araguaia em seus municípios, principalmente para o transporte de insumos e produtos. A despeito da pouca nformação de que dispunham sobre sua dimensão, potencial e impactos, manifestaram expectativas positivas quanto aos aspectos econômicos e sociais e negativas quanto aos ambientais. Vários assinalaram que o lento processo de implantação compromete sua inserção nos projetos institucionais ou empresariais e causa descrença sobre sua consolidação. A análise estatística dos dados de campo, realizada através de uma regressão do tipo stepwise, revela que os agentes econômicos relacionam a importância da Hidrovia Tocantins-Araguaia para seus municípios aos impactos econômicos, sociais e ambientais que ela possa causar. Os resultados individuais mostraram-se significativos, segundo o nível de probabilidade "p", para as variáveis selecionadas pelo modelo, sob α = 0,20(erro tipo I) estabelecido à priori. Foram significativos e positivos os coeficientes das variáveis geração de emprego e renda, oferta de serviços estruturais municipais e valor das propriedades ribeirinhas e, negativos, os coeficientes das variáveis conhecimento e informação sobre a hidrovia, atividades de indústria e comércio, atividades de turismo e oferta de serviços sociais municipais. A variável atividades de agricultura não foi significativa. O grupo focal, realizado com a finalidade de ampliar a discussão qualitativa sobre a Hidrovia Tocantins-Araguaia, foi consensual em relação aos benefícios econômicos e sociais proporcionados ao Estado do Tocantins e aos circunvizinhos. Porém, alertou sobre os possíveis impactos negativos no meio ambiente, especialmente no Rio Araguaia. Em linhas gerais, o estudo permitiu concluir pela necessidade e benefícios de serem consideradas as impressões qualitativas dos potenciais usuários na avaliação de viabilidade econômica de projetos de infra-estrutura de transporte. Tais impressões serviriam como parâmetros de ponderação dos aspectos quantitativos levantados pelo empreendedor, favorecendo a escolha do empreendimento mais adequado sob o ponto de vista econômico, social e ambiental. Sobre a implantação efetiva da Hidrovia Tocantins-Araguaia, no Estado do Tocantins, alerta-se para os impactos que ela possa causar. Ainda que sob o ponto de vista comum sejam esperados benefícios econômicos e sociais, sob o ponto de vista ambiental a sensação é de perda de qualidade. O Rio Araguaia, pela sua juventude e fragilidade dos ecossistemas que congrega,exige tratamento especial, baseado num cuidadoso plano de intervenções, que respeite suas características naturais, bem como as das espécies e populações que o habitam, inclusive a humana. O Rio Tocantins, ainda que menos indefeso pela sua maior idade, precisa de tratamento adequado, uma vez que dele depende não só a Hidrovia Tocantins e o projeto multimodal de transporte mas,também, todo o projeto de geração de energia hidrelétrica do Estado. / The present study aims to evaluate the perception of potential users of the Tocantins-Araguaia Waterway concerning the possibility of economic, social and environmental impacts in 7 municipalities, in the State of Tocantins. For this purpose, 24 individuals representing the government, private sector and non-government environmental organizations, have been interviewed. Field evidences shows that in the Araguaia River the limited operational infrastructure, installed in 1998, is completely deteriorated and that the ships have not been used since the year 2000. It has been, in the Tocantins River, noticed the nonexistence of dams, which allow to regulate the more aggressive natural differences in the river levels, increasing the navigability of the convoys. Therefore, it can be stated that the waterway is still far from it’s consolidation as a transportation alternative for this State. As for the opinion of those who have been interviewed, in general, the presence of the Tocantins- Araguaia Waterway in their municipalities is considered interesting and strategic, mainly for the transportation of inputs and finished goods. Despite the little information available as to its dimension, potential and impacts, positive expectation have been manifested as to economic and social aspects, and negative as to environmental aspects. Several of them stated that the slow process of implantation difficult its introduction in the projects or enterprises and causes the incredibility over its consolidation. The statistical analysis of the field data, made through a stepwise regression reveals that the economic agents relates the importance of the Tocantins-Araguaia Waterway for their municipalities to the economic, social and environmental impacts that it might cause. The individual results are significant, according to the confidence level p , for the variables selected by the model, under α = 0,20 (tipe I error) à priori determined. The coefficients of the variables job creation and income improvement, municipal social service offer and the value of the water side properties were significant and positive and the coefficients of the variables knowledge and information on waterway, commercial and industrial activities, tourism activities, and the municipal social service offer, were negative. The variable agricultural activities was not significant. The focal group about Tocantins-Araguaia Waterway was consensual over the economic and social benefits for the State of Tocantins. However, the group warned about possible negative impacts in the environment, especially in the Araguaia River. In general, the study permitted to conclude for the necessity and benefits to consider the qualitative impressions of the potential users in the evaluation of the economic viability of transportation infrastructure projects. Such impressions would serve as parameters of the qualitative aspects brought forward by the entrepreneur, improving the choice of the most adequate enterprise under the economic, social and environmental aspects. As for the effective implantation of the Tocantins-Araguaia Waterway, in the State of Tocantins, the impacts that it may cause should be brought forward. Although economic and social benefits are expected, the perception is of loss of the environmental quality. The Araguaia River, because of its youth and ecosystems fragility, demands a special treatment, based on a careful plan of interventions, that respects its natural characteristics, as well as the species and populations that inhabit it, including the human. The Tocantins River also needs a proper treatment due to the Tocantins Waterway, the multimodal transportation and the hydroelectric generation projects of the State, which depends on it.

Os aspectos ambientais relacionados às atividades cotidianas de marinas de águas interiores, de terminais hidroviários de passageiros, de embarcações de lazer e de turismo e de outras instalações de apoio, como os estaleiros fluviais, indicam a necessidade da adoção de modelos sustentáveis de gerenciamento destas organizações, pois suas atividades ocorrem diretamente nos corpos d\'água e nas margens de rios e reservatórios, áreas estratégicas para o equilíbrio dos ecossistemas aquáticos e protegidas por uma legislação ambiental rigorosa. Este trabalho sugere alternativas tecnológicas e propõe a implementação de um programa de gestão de resíduos e efluentes, visando adequar a infra-estrutura e a operação de marinas, de terminais de passageiros e de embarcações de turismo, lazer e recreio, à série de normas ISO 14000 e a legislação ambiental, em relação à destinação dos resíduos sólidos, dos resíduos oleosos e dos efluentes sanitários gerados. As propostas foram fundamentadas em dados provenientes de uma avaliação sobre a situação atual das instalações receptoras, dos equipamentos e da gestão de resíduos e efluentes, realizada em uma marina e em uma empresa de navegação de turismo que operam no reservatório de Bariri, na Hidrovia Tietê-Paraná. Os resultados deste trabalho demonstram a importância da implementação de programas de treinamento e de controle dos resíduos e dos efluentes gerados nas atividades em terra e a bordo. Esses programas baseiam-se na redução da geração dos resíduos, na segregação, na reutilização e na reciclagem dos materiais, assim como na educação ambiental e no tratamento e destinação final adequada dos resíduos e efluentes, possibilitando, desta forma, a prevenção, o controle e o combate da poluição dos recursos hídricos, além de proporcionar o aumento da atratividade do empreendimento e da segurança e satisfação de usuários e de funcionários. / The environmental aspects related to the daily operations in small craft inland harbors, in passenger waterway terminals, in leisure and tour vessels, in addition to other supporting facilities such as fluvial shipyards, indicate the need for adoption of sustainable models of management of such organizations, due to the fact that their activities are directly related to water bodies and to river banks and reservoirs, which are strategic areas for the aquatic ecosystems balance and protected by a strict environmental legislation. This study focus on technological options and proposes the implementation of a management program of waste and sewage in order to adapt the facilities and the operation of the marinas, passenger terminals and recreational boating to the ISO 14000 serial rules and to the environmental legislation in relation to the destination of solid wastes, oily residues and sewage effluents. The proposals were based on data from an investigation about the current situation of the facilities, the equipment, and the waste and sewage management, carried on both a marina and a tour navigation company which operate in the Bariri reservoir in the Tietê-Paraná Waterway. The results of this study demonstrate the importance of the implementation of programs for training and controlling the waste and sewage produced in shore and off-shore activities. These programs are based on the reduction of the production of waste, on the segregation, on the reutilization and the recycling of the materials, as well as on environmental education and on the treatment and final destination of waste and sewage. Thus, it’s notorious that the growth of nature production, material landscapes and productive forces lead to a progressive increase of the work division and social antagonisms, in front of a dialectic common to different geographic spaces. The capital accumulation in the beginning of the 21st century is based on the reorganization of technical, scientific, informative and public private proceedings, resulting in an unequal development among the different territories. The actions, articulations and investments on private capital are factors that enable the existence of these contradictions. The Tietê-Paraná Waterway and the inside ports of Pederneiras-SP, Anhembi-SP e Santa Maria da Serra-SP represents the use of the intermodality aiming the improvement on merchandises transportation, the integration of different territories and intensification of spatial and economical interactions.

It is seen that the organizations survival status rely heavily on their ability to add value for stakeholders. The companies management methods proposed to determine objectives, information management, planning, and execution of strategies. This study aimed to analyze the structure of the flow of information in the operational management of water transport Manaus load using the analysis approach of social networks through Soft UCINET 6.4. The method that this research used to answer the research questions was the survey or evaluation research and had quantitative character and exploratory. The results were achieved, the network is designed and calculated its structural measures - indicators showing the dynamic flow of information in relational process between its actors. / A análise de redes sociais tem crescido a cada dia, onde encontra aplicação em quase todas as áreas do conhecimento e particularmente na ciência da informação. É perceptível que as organizações no estado de sobrevivência dependem muito de sua capacidade de agregar valor para as partes interessadas. Os métodos de administração das empresas propõe a determinação de objetivos, gerenciamento da informação, planejamento, e execução das estratégias. Assim, este estudo teve como objetivo analisar a estrutura do fluxo de informações na gestão operacional do transporte aquaviário de carga de Manaus usando a abordagem de Análise de Redes Sociais por meio do Soft UCINET 6.5. O método que esta pesquisa utilizou para responder as perguntas de pesquisas foi a Survey ou Pesquisa de Avaliação e teve caráter quantitativo e tipo exploratório. Os resultados foram alcançados, a rede foi desenhada e calculada suas medidas estruturais - indicadores, mostrando a dinâmica do fluxo de informações no processo relacional entre seus atores.
