We tried to study some images of the sea in galician-portugueses textes between the XIIIth and XVth centuries; some cantigas d'amigo, the barcarolas or marinhas and a few textes of moral sense and hagiographal caracter. Our aim was to confront those images socially shared with considerable part of the bistoriography about the portuguese Age of Discoveries that assures that Portugal, since Middle Ages, has manifest a maritime "vocation". The metaphor of the family in relation to the footwashing in John 13:1-20.

16 April 2008 (has links)
Family life plays an integral part in our society. In the South African context we live in a society where there seems to be a break down in society. This is prevalent in our schools where we see so many children come from single parent homes. The father figure is absent. It is only when we encounter a personal relationship with Christ that we discover how the family unit is stabilized. In the light of this, the whole research is based on the metaphor of the family in the Fourth Gospel, and how it is employed at micro-, meso- or macro-level in the gospel. JG van der Watt's book, Family of the king. Dynamics of metaphor in the Gospel according to John (2000) forms the basis of this research. He points out that the metaphor of the family is the most essential imagery in the gospel. The footwashing pericope in John 13:1-20 fits into the family metaphor as Jesus calls those closest to him, namely his disciples in a warm friendly environment to inform them of his impending hour and what impact it will have on them. Chapter 1 centers around the research premise. Elements featuring in this chapter are: the introduction, problem statement, aim of research, methodology and further development of the study. The significance of why Jesus washed the feet of the disciples and the setting he uses in drawing his disciples aside. Furthermore, in the light of the metaphor of the family he draws their attention to the hour at hand. Various interpretations are then employed on micro-, meso- and macro-level from a narratological point of view. In Chapter 2 the function of the family in Jewish and Graeco-Roman cultures are discussed. Aspects such as the patron-client relationship and how this filters through to the family are taken in consideration. Family responsibility and how each member of the family has a role to play in ensuring the cohesion of the family life. The hierarchy of this function and this responsibility stems from the father right down to the slaves. This is important in the footwashing pericope, because Jesus breaks with conventional norms to take the place of a slave in washing the feet of the disciples. Purposes for footwashing are discussed and why it is significant in John 13. Chapter 3 contains the discussion of the meaning and function of the metaphors in general and specific in the Gospel of John. In this chapter the following are considered: theoretical considerations of a metaphor, definitions and nature of a metaphor, types of metaphors and how they function as well as the imagery of the family metaphor. John emphasizes in this gospel the divinity of Jesus and his relationship with God. He used household entities centered around a meal to portray, not only Jesus' relationship on a personal level with his disciples, but also on a divine level or spiritual level in their identification with Christ, in him washing the feet of the disciples. Furthermore, the chapter focuses on the aspects of family members' responsibility in the household as well as the care and love the members show towards each other. Chapter 4 is the focal point of the research and contains a detailed exegesis of John 13:1-20 to explain the function of the family on macro- and meso-level. The metaphor that links with the metaphor of the family, such as the metaphor of water and the significance of water in the Fourth Gospel as well as the metaphor of bread, life and the hour, are also discussed. In the final chapter of my research the focus is on the implications the text has for our society. In the footwashing pericope, the example Jesus sets in washing his disciples feet, is one of service. By identifying with Jesus Christ on a personal level we are called upon to be in his service and to serve one another. More importantly is our acceptance of Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. We are also called upon to exercise the love of God in our hearts to those around us. / Dr. S.J. Nortjie-Meyer

Jotvingiai XIII a. ir tolesnis jų likimas / The Jatvingians in the 13th c. and their Subsequent History

Ševeliov, Oleg 04 March 2009 (has links)
Kernavės zooarcheologija / Zooarchaeology in kernavė

Suncovas, Vaidotas 01 July 2014 (has links)
Darbe analizuojama zooarcheologinė medžiaga iš XIII-XIV a. / Zooarchaeological material from the Upper and Lower town of XIII-XIVth century Kernavė archaeological complex has been analysed. Analysis of taxonomic and anatomical element distributions was taken into consideration. Element parts were separated according the meat value. The study revealed that there were no regulation of slaughtering, butchering, selling, and disposal of animal body waste parts. Residents raised livestock on or near their property and slaughtered the animals and processed the meat near their homes. Cattle were the main domestic animal to be raised. Wild animals were probably transported differently from domestic animals, not all parts (mainly of medium and lower value) were available to the town residents.

Τὸ βδἐλυγμα tὴζ ἐρημὡδ εωv in Mark 13:14 : its historical reference and its impact in Mark 13 and in the context of Mark's gospel

Such, W. A. January 1998 (has links)
In spite of the wealth of material on Mark 13:14 the phrase [greek characters] has not been syntactically exegeted sufficiently in respect to chapter 13, nor its place assessed in the formation of Mark's gospel. Our study demonstrates the fundamental significance of v.14 as the syntactical focal point of vv.5-13, that content, temporal indicators and link words are shaped syntactically in w.5-13 to peak at v.14, and that [greek characters] is uniquely to of v.4. A realization of this connection is the single indispensable clue unlocking eschatological notions in chapter 13. Further, by positing that v.14, coupled with v.26-27, produces a double focus in the chapter, we demonstrate its importance for vv.15-37. The advent of [greek characters] is the sign launching the end-time setting in motion an imminent parousia. This sign is connected with the Jerusalem temple's destruction by the Roman commander Titus in September 70 C.E. Titus is the referent in 13:14, though our contention is that originally in pre-Markan material in v.l4, the reference was to the crisis in 39-41 C.E. when the emperor Gaius Caligula attempted to erect an image of himself in the temple in Jerusalem. Mark obtained material from this episode and adapted it to indicate not the deified image of a Roman emperor but an individual abominator, Titus, who was [greek characters]. An examination of Josephus' War demonstrates that Judeans inhabiting the region after September 70 C.E. were in a position to flee according to 13:14b. Mark's Jewish Gentile community, located in Syria or one of the Transjordanian Hellenistic cities, must brace itself for a worsening period of turmoil in the light of the operational end-time sign in the temple in Jerusalem. The task of the community is to proclaim the gospel among the nations (13:10). Their final vindication will occur with the parousia of the Son of Man.

Massini-Cagliari, Gladis 24 August 1995 (has links)
Orientador: Ester Miriam Scarpa / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem / Made available in DSpace on 2018-07-20T15:43:26Z (GMT). Como conseqüência deste movimento de alçamento da regra de atribuição do acento do módulo pós-Iexical ao lexical, há a alteração do dominio de aplicação desta regra: do grupo clítico, em Latim, à palavra, em Português Arcaico e atual / Abstract: This thesis aims to outline the historical route of Portuguese stress, through the analysis of three crucial points in the language temporal continuum: the first and initial point is LATIN; the second one is ARCHAIC PORTUGUESE, an intermediary point in the evolution ofthe language; the third and final point is the present stage of Brazilian Portuguese. An emphasis is given to the description of Archaic Portuguese stress atribution process, because there is no comprehensive study about the prosody of the language in that moment, and because that is a strategic point in determining the Portuguese stress historical evolution: it is the very first moment when some of the aspects of the prosody of the language can be studied since the first poetic texts in Portuguese were written in those days. The corpus is constituted by alI the "cantigas de amigo" of the Cancioneiro da Biblioteca Nacional de Lisboa, composed between the enq of the XIIth century and the beginning of the XIVth century. Arguments that support the selection and delimitation of the corpus are presented in Chapter 1. In this chapter, the main characteristics of the corpus (its kind of writing, its physical presentation, its insertion in the historical and literary panorama) and the verse making roles folIowed by the "trovadores" at those days are also considered. Chapter 2 provides the theoretical framework adopted here, presenting the conceptions of linguistic change - parametric change, folIowing Lightfoot (1991) - and of (nonlinear) phonology - specialIy Hayes' (1991) metrical theory and Mohanan's (1986) lexical theory. In Ghapter 3, the analysis of stress in the three periods focused here is developed, with special reference to the Archaic Portuguese. The analysis shows that alI these three periods of the language adopt the same rhythmic basic foot (the moraic trochee) - and the same choice referring to the setting of alI other rhythmic parameters value. The only exception is the valúe of the extrametrical constituent parameter: syllables, in Latin; segments, in Archaic Portuguese: syllables and segments, in Brazilian Portuguese. In this scenario. we conclude that there is no change in the stress role from Latin to Brazilian Portuguese. The changes verified in the extrametrical constituent parameter value setting are. in fact, consequence of a major linguistic change, not in the formulation of the stress role itself, but in the module of its application, in the Grammar. Latin stress role applies postlexicalIy; Archaic Portuguese stress rule, in the lexical component. The causes of this movement upwards in the stress role module of application that can be pointed out are changes in the quantity of some sylIables in many words (originated by the loss of Latin quantity distinctions between vowels), changes in the basic form of various words (caused by several factors), and the reanalysis observed in the metrical form of some words, that have not changed superficially. As a consequence of this movement upwards of the stress role from postlexical to lexical module of role application. there is the alteration in the domain of application of this role: from clitic group, in Latin, to the word in Archaic and Brazilian Portuguese / Doutorado / Doutor em Linguística
