_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / From the Bible Pauperum, incunabula of the fifteenth century, this analysis runs images of the Adoration of the Magi, the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, based on the text of Matthew (2: 1-12). The Gospel of Luke and some apocryphal texts served as a comparative basis for issues related to the Nativity of Christ regarding the Epiphany. Comparisons in search of the similarities and differences were based on information found in these reports. The existence of the Magi, their identity, their number, their origin and existence of the Star of Bethlehem, were the subject of iconographic study, aided by a corpus of images selected, which included a woodcut of the Epiphany Bible Pauperum and various representations, tempers and frescoes of Italian painting of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Special attention was devoted to painting of the Adoration of the Magi 1375 by Paolo da Modena, who compose the collection of paintings from the Art Museum of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand.

Louis Le Vau et les nouvelles ambitions de l’architecture française (1634-1654) / Louis Le Vau and the New Ambitions of French Architecture (1634-1654)

Cojannot, Alexandre 10 December 2011 (has links)
Louis Le Vau (1612-1670) is one of the most famous artists of Seventeenth-Century France. His reputation is due both to his various town houses in Paris (hôtel Lambert for instance) and in Ile-de-France, and to his part of Premier Architecte of the king Louis XIV, especially on the building sites of the Louvre and Versailles. An amount of publications have dealt with his life and with his architectural works. Still, many major aspects of his career remain rather obscure. This PhD aims at considering Louis Le Vau as a whole, at unifying erudition and critical analysis within a close chronological frame. The twenty first years of Le Vau’s career are here considered, begining with his first work known today, the hôtel Bautru in 1634, and ending with Le Vau starting his permanent service of the king in 1654. Through the study of his youth and of his professional beginnings till 1639 (Part I), through the analysis of his builder’s activity on the Ile Saint-Louis (part II) and lastly, of his conquest of the whole town of Paris and of the Court society, the focus of this PhD is not only on the architectural identity of the young Le Vau, but on the links one can establish between his works and the artistical, social and political ambitions in France in the middle of the seventeenth century.

Estudi dels documents dels pintors i altres artífexs valencians. Segles XIII, XIV i XV (1238-1450)

Mocholi Roselló, Asunción 04 October 2010 (has links)
Mocholi Roselló, A. L'histoire dans le livre des médailles de Louis XIV (éditions de 1702 et de 1723) / The history in the book of medals of Louis the Fourteenth (The 1702 and 1723 editions)

Gagnon, Léa 09 December 2019 (has links)
Metallic history has led to a certain number of critical publications which have mainly focused on the numismatic value of the Petite Académie project, somehow moving away from the created book to concentrate on the metal. Although doser studies have recently been made of the book, its literary and historiographical dimension has seldom been raised. Thus The history in the book of medals of Louis the Fourteenth has corne into being. Therefore, this study intends to place the academicians work in a traditional historiographical context where antique codes prevail. The book clearly takes its inspiration from them while toying with them, magnifying or ruling them out depending on what they could bring to the glory of absolutism. The importance of the writers in this collective work should also be mentioned. They will progressively be moved aside as printing time gets doser. The institutionai framework will be pushed in the background, behind the king. However, it remains eue that the debates conducted within the minutes show the individuality of each writer at the origin of the creation. Finally, as the making of the book is based on a certain number of reforms and pre-established rules, its evolution will be explained. In Tact, the writing principles endure from the manuscripts to the publications and yet they may evolve into new ways of expression as the writing proceeds. Despite everything they may contradict one another in their application and have then to prove adaptable.

Exploring players’ experiences with learning English in Final Fantasy XIV

Fahlström, Oliver, Sheikhi Pour, Anahita January 2023 (has links)
The objective of this study was to investigate how players experience learning English through playing the popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. It also discussed the improvement in English skills achieved through playing the game, exploring what aspects they have improved and how they were able to do that. This research may interest individuals seeking to understand how video games can improve language skills. Moreover, it is relevant to those who play MMORPGs, a genre where players can experience and practice real-life situations and roles. The research has been done through conducting semi-structured qualitative online interviews with six informants from different backgrounds and English levels. During the interviews, informants were questioned about their experience with learning English while playing Final Fantasy XIV. The results suggested that they improved their vocabulary knowledge and their communication skills through using productive skills with other players. Furthermore, players had different experiences on how they have learned, a few of them learned through repetition and exposure to the game’s content.

The development impact of the domestic workers skills development project on its participants

Wessels, Tersia Susara 31 December 2006 (has links)
The Domestic Workers Skills Development Project, funded by the National Skills Fund, was designed to improve the skill levels of domestic workers in South Africa. It also was intended to address their historical lack of education and to advance their socio-economic circumstances. This study investigates the implementation of this project within the framework of community development. Basadi Pele Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, was a participant in this project. The central question was how to empower marginalised women through skills development. This implies a learning process for domestic workers and all involved. Different learning theories are investigated to develop an understanding of how these illiterate adult women learned during this opportunity. The conclusion reached by this study is that a gender sensitive environment, created by government institutions and the NGO involved, enabled domestic workers to change their lives and circumstances; enhancing this project and contributing to its success. / Development Studies / M.A. (Development Studies)

Foreign policy, public diplomacy and the media : the case of South Africa, with specific reference to the denial of visas to the Dalai Lama

Van der Westhuizen, Sanet 06 1900 (has links)
This study illustrates the link between foreign policy, public diplomacy and the media, with reference to the South African Government’s refusal in 2009 and 2011 to issue visas to the Dalai Lama. The research question is: How do the South African media frame foreign policy and how do administrators react to this actuality? As there seems to be a void in South African international political communications, this is where this study purports to contribute. The aim is to investigate how the media frames foreign policy, specifically regarding the case study. Therefore, the media, human rights and foreign policies, and the diplomatic practices of the South African government are studied. The objective is not necessarily to prove or disprove the causal effect of media and public opinion on foreign policy but rather to illustrate the interaction between these elements in the case of the South African government’s denial of visas to the Dalai Lama. / Political Sciences / M.A. (International Politics)

Holy Spirit and church in First Corinthians : the role of the Holy Spirit in creating unity with special reference to 1 Cor. 12-14

Shumilin, Alexander 11 1900 (has links)
The main goal of this study is to demonstrate the role of the Holy Spirit in building up Church unity, based on the exegesis of I Corinthians. The current theme is urgent; however, little attention has been paid to it in research literature. We have noted that it is not human wisdom but the Holy Spirit who is the key to our faith, salvation, and understanding of divine mysteries. The Holy Spirit along with Christ brings forward the building of the Church and guides it. One Spirit is the foundation for Church unity. The Holy Spirit administers spiritual gifts according to His will and establishes their orderly operation. Seeking the guidance of the Spirit, trusting and obeying Him brings unity, whereas following different authorities, mistrusting and disobeying Him results in disunity. / Biblical and Ancient Studies / M.
