Mota, Gersivalda Mendonça da 28 February 2018 (has links)
In today's scenario of changes in society and in people's daily lives, we understand that these changes must also happen in the educational space. It has been found that many platforms and technological devices are available for educational use, among them YouTube, a social networking site that shares videos produced by different people. Thus, this research was designed to answer the question about the possibilities of using the social networking site Youtube in basic education. Its objective was to investigate the possibilities of using the social networking site Youtube with teachers of basic education in the municipality of Itabaiana, in Sergipe. To meet this demand, we sought to discuss the possibilities of using the Youtube social networking site in basic education, through a proposal to create and co-create videos with teachers through a training course. The work was based on the methodology of Research-training, used by it to be situated in a perspective of commitment and of implication of the researchers with their practices, allowing individual and / or collective changes. Through this methodology, an authorial training device was developed, the workshop entitled "Possibilities of using the Youtube social network in education", with a total workload of forty hours. In this workshop, it was possible to share knowledge about the possibilities of Youtube in the learning process, in addition to proposing the development of a channel so that teacher could produce and share on the internet videos with their students. In order to collect data from this research, we used as a technique the application of a questionnaire to know the profile of teachers, observation of teachers in the school space, production of research diaries and participant observation of the activities developed during the workshop. It was observed that teachers knew and even used the site in their classes, but just like any other didactic material, that is, to reproduce the information, leaving aside the possibility of being the author or co-author of new productions more related to their reality and its culture. As a result of the workshop offered, the participating teachers co-produced videos and culminated in school to socialize with the school community their productions, but not everyone was able to make available on the Youtube channel the productions made. We realize that non-sharing on Youtube is related to two factors: lack of immersion of teachers in cyberculture, regarding the use of this culture in education, and availability to carry out ongoing teacher training activities. Educational policies, whether at the municipal, state or federal level, have not contributed to the fact that teachers have, during their work hours, moments of continuous formation. In this way, the use of digital technologies in the classroom becomes increasingly distant from happening, because for the effective use of these technologies in education it is necessary a continuous training that goes beyond simple training or punctual capabilities.

Analysis of Location based QoE for Mobile video streaming from YouTube in 4G Networks

Satti, Narendra Siva Prasad Reddy, Singh, Saket Vikram January 2013 (has links)
Mobile Video streaming has become popular with the arrival of high capability smart phones on Mobile Networks. Users are streaming high definition (HD) videos and have high expectations on Mobile Quality of Experience (QoE). Fourth Generation Mobile Networks are being deployed recently in many regions of the world and have capability to efficiently handle high definition video traffic. YouTube is one of the most extensively used Video on Demand Service on smart phones where wide range of people do video streaming. Most of the QoE experiments on 4g networks have been conducted in lab environment but they do not capture the daily routine of user experience on viewing videos. The user experiments in this thesis are conducted in natural life settings to capture Quality of Experience based on context of the user location. User experiments are designed and conducted for collecting Mean Opinion scores (MOS) in four different context based locations and have been collected using Experience Sampling Method (ESM). The Contribution of thesis is applying linear mixed effect Modeling on data collected to develop Quality of Experience (QoE) models of video streaming for Mobile YouTube on 4G Network. This thesis is one of the first works on modeling QoE experience at different context based physical locations in natural settings for mobile YouTube video streaming in 4G networks.

Life Is Strange a mediated game reception analysis / Life Is Strange : a mediated game reception analysis

Mänder, Leili January 2017 (has links)
In this essay a mediated video game reception of the game Life Is Strange is made, with the purpose of examining the players' meaning-making processes from a gender perspective. The materials of this essay consist of videos from six different YouTube channels where each player film themselves whilst playing through Life Is Strange as a way to review and share the gaming experience. The results show how the meaning-making processes are littered with gender discourses and affects. The affects offset discourses by amplification or by revealing discord between available cultural narratives and the simulated reality of the game. Even though the game highlights themes like female-centric relationships, suicide, euthanasia, lesbianism, socio-economic circumstances, social accountability and men's violence against women, it successfully delivers highly involving, enjoyable and appreciated gameplay experience. The game is shown to provide players with a platform around which they can connect and continue to discuss, raise awareness and produce knowledge around these important topics. The fan generated culture will in turn, reach a much larger audience than the game sales numbers reflect. /
Treated in seminar at Stockholm University

Plant-based diets on social media : How content on social media influence for maintaining a lifestyle

Holmgren, Hanna January 2017 (has links)
Plant-based food has recently been a frequently addressed topic for scientific research, mainly because of its benefits for the environmental sustainability, human health and animal welfare. Nonetheless, there is limited research on how people maintain a plant-based diet, as well as research gaps on the topic in relation to media and communication studies. The purpose of this research is to provide new empirical data on how social media can inspire and/or influence a person to maintain a plant-based lifestyle. Using a qualitative method of in-depth interviews, the aim is to understand how content on social media motivates people to make sustainable movements in their real life. In other words, the research will provide insights on how a lifestyle can be upheld with the help of social media. As a theoretical basis for the study, the following theories have been applied: The uses and gratification theory, cultivation analysis theory and social cognitive theory. The findings suggest that social media is a useful tool for a person that wants to maintain a plant-based diet. Facebook, YouTube and Instagram are preferred online platforms for seeking and sharing information about the lifestyle and the most interesting contents for upholding a plant-based diet are food pictures, personal blogs and vlogs, documentaries about the environment and animal welfare, as well as product news and different discussions in virtual groups. The result also shows that people are most likely to change a behaviour after seeing content on social media that makes them emotional, in a positive or negative way.

Lingán Laura, Dara Milena 10 September 2020 (has links)
Currently, there are brands that make use of femvertising in their advertising spots, in a way that defies gender stereotypes present in society, in order to achieve female empowerment. Also, there are investigations that analyze the presence of femvertising in different advertising spots related to beauty or self-love; but no research has been published that analyzes any advertisement related to gender stereotypes present in the workplace. On the other hand, there is little research that studies the effects of femvertising, that is, if it really fulfills its objective of empowering women. This work will analyze the effectiveness of the femvertising present in the advertising spot ‘Mujeres Presentes’ published on YouTube that seeks to empower women in the workplace. For this, the perception of the professors of the Faculties of Engineering and Health Sciences the UPC, careers considered male will be examined. Therefore, this research will be positioned in the phenomenological paradigm and the method that will be used will be qualitative, so that a deep understanding of the experiences lived by the teachers is sought. Finally, semi-structured interviews were carried out with the intention of knowing if the place really empowers the teachers or if they feel identified. / Trabajo de investigación

Imagining information: the uses of storytelling

Higgins, Stefan 13 January 2021 (has links)
This thesis investigates a cultural logic of information. In a world saturated with information, how is representation defined, and what kinds of boundaries does it consequently set up for establishing what can be known? I argue that a cultural logic of information articulates a common cultural definition for representation: information is understood as either a “true” representation of reality, or a substitute for reality itself. As a result, information comes to be conflated with knowledge. But, in contrast to calls (scholarly and otherwise) to police the boundaries of information, I argue 1) that information is exceedingly difficult to separate, in kind, from storytelling, because 2) the provision of information almost always entails scrambles for narrative representation, which 3) are always staged in the terms of genre. The function of these conclusions is the constant undermining of this cultural logic. I examine the intersection of a variety of cultural and theoretical objects, including: Fox News and “Make America Great Again”; scientific modelling of climate change; Claude Shannon’s mathematical theory of communication; Karl Ove Knausgaard’s My Struggle; YouTube “lifestyle” communities; and the documentary “The Act of Killing.” I suggest that a methodology that accounts for the imbrication of information and storytelling better accounts for the vicissitudes of, and ideological struggles over, these cultural phenomena. It does so, in particular, by engaging with the subjective experience of information, and assessing how subjects imagine their relations to information and to networks. The purpose of this argument is to intervene in conversations about the articulation of life in control societies. / Graduate / 2021-06-20
