Tělo jako živý obraz / Body as a moving picture

Zemanová, Manuela January 2018 (has links)
Master's thesis "Body as a Moving Picture" focuses in its theoretical part on the phenomenon of gesture, expression, pose, body language and pathos as we can find it in works for classical authors to contemporary art. The practical part of the thesis describes pedagogically-psychological resources necessary for the realization of art projects in its first chapter. It aims to search different forms of action art and practically test their applicability with students in the lessons of Art Education. The second chapter is dedicated to the realization of art projects. The art projects are focused on a dialog with chosen works of art and the use of artefiletic techniques in practice and their overlap into the students' artistic creations. KEYWORDS gesture, expression, pose, patos, performance art, actionism

Analyse critique et enjeux théoriques du Théâtre des Orgies et des Mystères d’Hermann Nitsch : de 1957 à nos jours / Critical analysis and theoretical stakes in the Theater of the Orgies and Hermann Nitsch's mysteries : of 1957 in our days

Maselli, Bénédicte 15 January 2018 (has links)
Hermann Nitsch's Theatre of Orgies and Mysteries (Orgien Mysterien Theater) grew out of the painful context of post-Fascist Austria. Although Austria had welcomed annexation with Germany in 1938 and the Austrians had been eager collaborators with the Nazis from the outset, as soon as the war was over, they portrayed themselves as victims, denying responsibility for or active participation in Nazi crimes, preferring to blame everything on their German neighbours. In this loathsome atmosphere, in which the majority of the intellectuals of the time remained silent, Hermann Nitsch set up his Theater, using a highly radical, visual language.Contrary to what one might suppose, however, it was not political art.And in fact, after the initial visual shock, the Theater was, above all, philosophical and anthropological. Nitsch maintained that modern man, stripped of mythology, was no longer in harmony with his essence. Postmodern societies, which he deemed alienating, were responsible for a semantic breach between the material and the spiritual. The experience of the Theater, through ritual and its emphasis on anthropological principles of invariance, was a way for the individual to rid himself of societal determinism in order to gain access to continuous knowledge (Bataille). Thus, the Theatre of Orgies andMysteries is a multi-referential, transhistoric work situated on the cusp of micro- and macro-history. Nitsch has stated that "the creative process and the Theater must contribute towards forming a unity with the whole" so as to "erase the difference between immanence and transcendence". All of the activities proposed by Nitsch consist in rituals, sometimes of life and sometimes of death, but all with the aim of erasing the immanence/transcendence dichotomy. Hermann Nitsch's Theater adapts inborn symbolic language (in the Freudian sense) and old traditions in an attempt to demonstrate to the modernindividual that the universe that surrounds them, despite its diversity, is a coherent whole, a surviving continuity in which they participate.a

Beyond the Threshold: Allusions to the Òrìsà in Ana Mendieta's Silueta Series

January, LaTricia M. 01 January 2007 (has links)
The Cuban-born artist Ana Mendieta (1948-1985) created the Silueta Series during the 1970s and ‘80s. It consists of earth-body works in situ featuring the silhouette of the artist's body fashioned from mud, plants, rocks, gunpowder and other materials. Underlying the creation of the Silueta Series is Mendieta's belief that the elements are sentient and powerful beings. This perception is particularly strong in the Afro-Cuban religion Santeria, a creolized form of the Òrìsà tradition of the Yoruba of West Africa introduced to the Americas during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. While scholars have noted Mendieta's incorporation of Santeria in her art, a thorough analysis of the iconographical references to the deities have yet to be explored. This thesis aims to provide such an analysis of Mendieta's works; thus enriching the current discourse on the Silueta Series.

Limatola, Laura 16 November 2023 (has links)
[EN] This doctoral Thesis focuses on the Austrian artist, intellectual, composer, philosopher Hermann Nitsch and his controversial artistic production which started in the mid-twentieth century. The research is carried out from the perspective of the conservation of contemporary artworks of unstable and multi-material nature. The peculiarity of this kind of artwork and the problems resulting from their conservation are subjects which relate to the philosophical values intrinsic of each piece. The investigation and analysis of all the involved factors, both material and immaterial, represent a particularly challenging task for the conservator. This Thesis proposes at first an analysis of Hermann Nitsch's complex work, which often develops with dynamics, assuming the connotation of what he calls Gesamtkunstwerk, i.e. Total Work of Art. This is followed by the study of the "Museo Archivio Laboratorio per le Arti Contemporanee Hermann Nitsch" in Naples, where several works of the Viennese artist are collected, characterizing the different typologies of artworks, the used materials as well as the role that each object holds during the art installations. On the basis of these investigations, the final goal is to articulate the general concept of preventive conservation, including the documentation phase and the criteria for damage prevention, in order to ensure proper long-term conservation during storage. From the Idiot to the Dualized Madman : research about Interpretations of Madness in Russian Contemporary Art

Cazaux, Alice 19 June 2015 (has links)
This work proposes an interpretation of the current Russian artistic creation – 1990-2010 – with regard to his links with history of madness, through the analysis of characters that punctuate Russian cultural landscape. The latter characters are deemed insane – holly fools, Romantic artists, dissidents interned in the Soviet Union - or whether are traditional idiots figures - Ivan the fool, Dostoevsky’s Prince Myshkin. A bridge will be created linking these archetypes and certain contemporary practices, up to Pussy Riot’s punk prayer. This study focuses on the concept of idiocy as an artistic position which allows the artist to become a mediator of a political, religious or social truth. The creator, moving forward hidden, reveals semantic shifts made by the concepts of "madness" and "norm", in parallel with relations held between "art" and "politics." The history of madness in Russia will also be depicted through various forms of soaring - understood in a metaphysical point of view as an escapism of reason. Literature will be used as a base for a first analysis of the romantic image of the damned artist with flickering reason. This picture will then be undermined by postmodern creators who both deconstruct the myths of the holy fool and the artistic genius, by their incarnation of a stupid creator reproducing forms without understanding their meaning. Moreover, some of them require, directly or not, to the ancestral figure of the holly fool to develop critical postures, sometimes scandalous, against political and religious powers. Considering the violent reaction that can generate the current artistic practices, and through the study of representative problematic works, the causes of their rejection shall become explicit. This will make it possible to consider these creations – apparently breaking with the established order – in their anchor within a historical and literary tradition of madness.

Poéticas do sacrifício (1960-1978): excesso e martírio na arte da performance à luz dos escritos de Georges Bataille e do Acionismo de Viena / Poetics of sacrifice (1960-1978): excess and martyrdom in performance art according to the writings of Georges Bataille and the Vienna Actionism.

Pecorelli Filho, Biagio 15 March 2019 (has links)
Between the years of 1960 and 1978, several European and American artists have employed in their works practices that go back to ancient rituals of religious sacrifice. The photographic and videographic documents that remain of these actions arrive at the 21st century still exerting, in the meeting with the audiences of the present, a remarkable performativity that involves the production of rumors, sensationalisms and misunderstandings, but also the production of new performances of sacrifice This thesis proposes as a methodological starting point an archeology (Michel Foucault) of the documentary mass that involves the birth of the \"body art\" in France and in the United States between the 1960s and 1970s, in order to displace an ontology of performance (Peggy Phelan) which, even today, especially in the context of these poetics, evokes the notion of \"real\" to the center of the discussions that involves the relationship between document and performance. In this sense, the thesis presents the concept of a sacrificial monument: the image of a sacrificed body or the imagem of a sacrificing body which exerts upon the historical body of performance art a repetition, evoking this \"real\" as risk, disgust, pain, death, destruction, a wound which hurts - sacrifice. Divided into two parts, the thesis proposes as a hypothesis a turn point, within a primordial history of these poetics, from the sacrificing body - body under the sign of excess - to the sacrificed body - body under the sign of martyrdom -, that occurred in the early 1970\'s. The concept of sacrifice, for its turn, is developed here, on the one hand, from the writings of Georges Bataille and the strange position that he occupies in the course of a history of theories of modern religious sacrifice; and on the other hand, the concept is developed from the sacrificial monuments produced in the 1960s by four Austrian artists associated with the so-called Viennese Actionism. I belive that Bataille\'s sacrificial imagination and the sacrificial monuments by Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Günter Brus, Hermann Nitsch and Otto Muehl provide a critical gaze on the poetics and politcs of sacrifice of the past and the present.

Art et politique en Autriche : l'impact des oeuvres d'Alfred Hrdlicka, de Friedenreich Hundertwasser, de Günter Brus et de Valie Export sur l'Autriche de la Seconde République / Art and politics in Austria : the impact of art works by Alfred Hrdlicka, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Günter Brus and Valie Export on the Second Republic of Austria

Freytag, Sylvie 09 June 2017 (has links)
The research relates to the relation between the political actors and subversive art and their respective position on dominant themes such as anti-Semitism, the denial of the Nazi past, the status of women, ecology. From existing theories on relations between engaged art and politics, it is a question of studying the works of art of four artists representative on both policy statements and newer technologies through history from 1945 up to now, in the Second Republic of Austria : the sculptor Alfred Hrdlicka, the painter and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser, the Viennese actionist Günter Brus, the feminist Valie Export. Each one, in his own way, shakes up the established order through his aggressive art and writings. The aim is to specify the type and level of protest of these artists and to assess to what extent they have participated in the democratic debate and modernisation within Austrian society as well as in the identity building of Austria after 1945.
