Essa dissertação versa sobre a noção de arte afro-brasileira, tomando os principais estudos voltados à questão, exposições emblemáticas ao redor do tema e os contextos de fundação e expografia de duas instituições decisivas da área o Museu Afro-Brasileiro, em Salvador, e o Museu Afro Brasil, em São Paulo como meios privilegiados de acesso às disputas conceituais e políticas que a constituem. Subjaz ao entendimento geral do estudo que as dificuldades de conceituação dessa arte de muitos nomes negra, afrodescendente, afro-orientada, diaspórica, preta etc. e os distintos significados que lhe foram sendo atribuídos ao longo do século XX, se relacionam de maneira incerta, porém constante, com as ambiguidades que informam as relações raciais no Brasil. Os capítulos que compõem essa dissertação buscam se debruçar sobre esse mosaico de usos, interpretações e definições que dão corpo e sentido, ainda que instável, ao termo. Afinal, quando se faz ou se fala em arte afrobrasileira, do que se está falando e o que se está fazendo? English Abstract Toni Morrison deals with the topic of community to a greater or lesser extent in all of her books. Being influenced by her own upbringing, she has always been aware of the role community plays in one's life and its influence on an individual. Community can both save you and forsake you. The nature of black community has been changing, according to Morrison, and so has her view of it. Her writing career reflects these alternations, revealing a significant change in her perspective. Looking at her first novel, The Bluest Eye, published in 1970, her third novel written seven years later, Song of Solomon, and her seventh novel, Paradise, written in 1998, this thesis traces the way her position alters throughout the years. Being opposed to both radical separatism and blind assimilation, Morrison first proposed return to traditional African values as the possible cure for the black community destroyed by the forces of capitalist society. Later in her career, however, Morrison changes her ideology and suggests as a remedy a community that does not exclude the unworthy, but is open, caring, and inclusive. By evolving from individualism to individuality, communities that will include everyone can be created.

Esta pesquisa de mestrado se dedica a dialogar com conhecimentos ancestrais da Capoeira Angola, a fim de tramar suas contribuições para o campo da educação escolar. E assim, contribuir ao processo de implementação das leis 10.693/03 e 11.645/08, especialmente ao que se referem aos recursos didáticos que compreendam saberes de matrizes africana, indígena e afro-brasileira. Trata-se dum estudo de algumas imagens literárias da Mãe-Capoeira em verso e prosa, orais e escritas, e em desenho. Utilizando-se de uma linguagem espiral que mescla o vigor da tradição e o rigor da dissertação acadêmica, os materiais da pesquisa entraram em diálogo com a perspectiva mitohermenêutica de uma educação de sensibilidade; com produções orais e escritas sobre as singularidades das cosmovisões africana, ameríndia e afro-brasileira; e com algumas produções, orais e escritas, do feminismo negro. Neste diálogo, flertamos com imagens dos modos matriais afro-ameríndios de fazer-saber e en-sinar num jogo tenso com os modos patriarcais branco-ocidentais da escolarização. Nesse sentido, flertamos com imagens literárias da Mãe-Capoeira e da família-capoeira. E então, com imagens das partilhas iniciáticas e das ligas vitais Capoeira-mestre-discípula/o e pessoa-família extensa. Isto porque desejamos favorecer no prosseguimento da construção de uma noção afro-ameríndia de pessoa-comunal, de conhecimento como força vital, de força-alma-palavra e de educação circular. De modo a tramarmos reinvenções antirracistas, antimachistas e não adultocêntricas nas formas e matérias das práticas escolares e acadêmicas de educação. / This master study is dedicated to dialogue with the ancestral knowledge of Capoeira Angola, in order to plot their contributions to education field. And thus, contribute to the implementation process of law 10.693/03 and 11.645/08, especially as it relates to teaching resources comprising knowledge african, ameríndians and afro-brazilian matrices. It\'s a study of some literary images of Mãe Capoeira in verse and prose, written and oral, and drawing. Using a language that combines the spiral vigour of tradition and rigor of academic dissertation, research materials went into dialogue with the mitohermenêutica perspective of an sensitivity education, with oral and written productions about the african, amerindian and afro-brazilian worldviews singularities; and with some black feminism productions, written and oral. In this dialogue, flirt with afro-amerindian matrials images ways of making-knowledge and lead-up-to-lot in a tense game with the white-western patriarchal modes of schooling. In this sense, we flirt with literary images of the Mãe-Capoeira and family-capoeira. And then, with images of initiation shares and vital alloys Capoeira-master-disciple and person-family-extended. This is because we want to encourage the continuation construction of an afro-amerindian-communal-person notion, knowledge as a vital force, word-soul-force and circular education. In order to ploting anti-racist, antimachists and not adultcentrics reinventions in the forms and materials of school practices and academic education.

Cette recherche se penche sur l’expérience historique de la population afro-descendante et indienne originaire des Basses Terres de Charcas, faisant partie de la servitude dans la ville de La Plata, entre 1560 et 1650. À travers les principaux critères des discours normatifs, et d’autres discours sociaux, l’on peut ici discerner de quelle manière se construit l’image publique des personnes esclavisées. Dans la logique des relations de pouvoir, apparaît, avec des caractères distinctifs, le traitement particulier que cette société multi-ethnique réserve aux nombreux membres de la servitude. Bien qu’il rend compte de la violence des pratiques esclavagistes, ce travail cherche à démontrer que l’expérience du sujet captif n’est pas limitée à la sphère de la soumission mais possède une dimension sociale plus large. Même fortement conditionnée, son image n’est pas déterminée par des préjugés phénotypiques, et ne dépend pas de liens avec une quelconque ancestralité, mais, au contraire, s’inscrit dans un jeu de complexes interactions sociales face l’ordre colonial. / This research examines the historical experience of the Afro-descendant and indigenous population from the Lowlands of Charcas who were in servitude in the city of La Plata between 1560 and 1650. Through the main criteria of normative discourse, and of other social discourses, we can discern how the public image of the enslaved people was constructed. Whitin the logic of power relations, appears, with distinctive characteristics, the particular treatment that this multiethnic society gave to its noumerous members in situation of servitude. Although it takes into account the violence of slavery practices, this work seeks to demonstrate that the experience of the captive subject was not limited to the sphere of submission, but that it had a wider social dimension. Even strongly if conditioned by phenotypic prejudices, its image was not determined and did not depend on its ties to any ancestry, but, on the contrary, was part of a complex context of social interactions within the colonial order.

O primeiro é uma breve revisão da presença de artistas afrodescendentes na História da Arte do Brasil pretendendo tanto relembrar e revelar personagens quanto observar como as Artes Visuais produzidas por artistas afrodescendentes foram observadas, registradas e nomeadas ao longo dos séculos por pesquisadores, críticos e historiadores. O segundo propõe a reflexão acerca da transposição e do emprego do termo "afro-brasileiro" ou "afro-brasileira" dos Estados Unidos da América para o Brasil na área de Artes Visuais, com fins de categorização da produção de artistas afrodescendentes, que possuem ou não pesquisas temáticas, conceituais, estéticas e/ou poéticas voltadas às questões relacionadas à história do segmento afrodescendente da população. Por fim, o terceiro se presta a apresentar e a analisar as produções de artistas afrodescendentes brasileiros e estadunidenses que demonstraram interesse por elaborar obras cujas visualidades e estéticas estivessem em diálogo com as questões da diáspora africana ou mesmo, de forma simples, com suas origens africanas. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: This Ph.D. dissertation consists of a several points of investigations, with three main areas of inquiry being especially pertinent. The first is a brief review of the presence of Afro-descendent artists in the history of art in Brazil with the intention of both remembering and revealing people of this category. Moreover, I address how the visual arts produced by Afro-descendents were observed, registered, and documented over two decades by researchers, critics, and historians. The second inquiry proposes a reflection over the exportation and adoption of the term "afro-brazilian" from the United States of America to Brazil in the field of visual studies. The adoption of the terminology "afro-brazilian" has resulted in the categorization of work produced by Brazilians artists of afro-descent into a group based on a shared afro-descendent identity. Furthermore, "afro-brazilian" has been further used for the purposes of labeling thematic research, concepts, aesthetics and/or poetics surrounding the questions related to the history of the afro-descent population. Lastly, the third seeks to present and analyze the production of Brazilian and United States afro-descendent artists who demonstrate interest in creating works which visualize and dialogue with circumstances of the African diaspora or, simply, with their African roots. The presentation and analysis of these works were completed chronologically, with particular attention placed on observing the biographies, themes, and research interests of the selected artists. In this way, I have comprised a body of afro-descendent artists who, due to their related interests and artistic practice, construct an art genre of afro-Brazilians, afro-Americans, or even, African (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Resumen: Esta investigación doctoral propuesto tiene algunos puntos de investigación, tres de los más relevantes. La primera es una breve reseña de la presencia de artistas de ascendencia africana en la historia de Brasil Arte intención de tanto recordar y revelan personajes y ver cómo se observaron, registran y nombrados durante siglos por los investigadores, críticos e historiadores de las artes visuales producidos por artistas afro-descendientes. La segunda propone una reflexión sobre la aplicación y el uso del término "afro-brasileña" o "afro-brasileña" de Estados Unidos a Brasil en el campo de las Artes Visuales, con fines de categorización de la producción de los artistas afrodescendientes que tienen o investigación no temático, conceptual, estética y / o poética centrada en temas relacionados con la historia del segmento de ascendencia africana de la población. O conhecimento visual que aqui se construiu a partir dessas fontes será o motivo dessa investigação. Para esta pesquisa, tomo como ponto de partida poéticas visuais e padrões gráficos presentes em algumas expressões tradicionais africanas bi e tridimensionais, especialmente a escultura e a estampa. O recorte temporal contempla produções modernas e contemporâneas, na tentativa de identificar e refletir acerca de determinados processos de reconstrução de identidades artísticas brasileiras a partir de grafias afro. A identificação de elementos poéticos e gráficos remanescentes tanto na escultura quanto na gravura que se relacionam à cultura afro no Brasil e sua ancestralidade, seja como ponto de partida, seja como inspiração plástica e ou conceitual, bem como os modos de produção e fruição que envolvem tais expressões artísticas, constituem-se como bases estruturantes para reflexões sobre a produção artística desses autores. / Abstract: This thesis aims to investigate dialogues with African ancestry and its poiesis that integrate contemporary and modern engraving and sculpture produced in Brazil during the twentieth century. The visual knowledge that here is built from these sources will be the motivation for such investigations. For this research, I take a visual poetics starting point alongside graphic patterns present in both bi and three-dimensional traditional African expressions. The time frame includes modern and contemporary productions in an attempt to identify and reflect on certain reconstruction processes of Brazilian artistic identities from African design. The identification of poetic elements and remaining design, both in sculpture and in engravings that relate to African culture in Brazil and their ancestry, whether as a starting point or as plastic and or conceptual inspiration, as well as the production processes and art distribution that undermine such artistic expressions, constitute structural basis for reflection on the artistic production of these authors. / Doutor

Estas relações são estudadas a partir de dois panos de fundo: o ritual de lamentação das almas, o ‘terno das almas’, um grupo de mulheres que rezam pelas almas dos mortos durante a Quaresma até a Sexta-Feira da Paixão relembrando a morte de Jesus, do qual Hildete é a responsável; e o jarê, religião de matriz africana existente somente na Chapada Diamantina e classificado, na literatura, como ‘candomblé de caboclo’ cujos líderes espirituais são chamados de ‘curadores’ ou ‘curadeiras’. Carmozina é curadeira e dona de um dos mais importantes terreiros da cidade, Marina, por sua vez, é a segunda na hierarquia do terreiro e também participa do terno das almas comandado por Hildete. Pela lente do terno, do jarê e das trajetórias de vida, a tese busca entender os diferentes destinos que recaem sobre o espírito ou a alma depois da morte. A partir do ritual de lamentação e da devoção na qual ele se insere, observamos a vinculação entre devotas e almas na jornada anímica no Purgatório. Os destinos pós-morte dos espíritos, por sua vez, são estudados por intermédio de temas como reencarnação e a permanência ilegítima do espírito sobre a Terra, a qual é capaz de gerar doenças e perturbações nos vivos. Por fim, a tese se aproxima da relação entre os mortos e as entidades cultuadas no jarê, os caboclos, com a ajuda das mulheres que incorporam estas entidades. / This thesis presents an ethnographical analysis on the trajectories of three women, Hildete, Marina and Carmozina, and the relationships established by them and other Andaraí city residents, located in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, with souls, spirits and caboclos, entities that are present in their lives and that made their way of life. These relationships are studied from two backgrounds: the mourning ritual called terno das almas, a group of women who pray for the souls of the dead during Lent until the Friday of the Passion recalling the death of Jesus, which Hildete is responsible; and the jarê, African matrix religion that only exists in Chapada Diamantina and is classified in the literature as candomblé de caboclo, whose spiritual leaders are called curadores or curadeiras. Carmozina is curadeira and owner of one of the most important terreiros of the city; Marina is the second in the hierarchy of the terreiro and attends the ritual leaded by Hildete. By the path of the mourning ritual, the jarê and women’s life trajectories, the thesis seeks an understanding of different destinations of spirits and souls after death. From the mourning ritual and devotion, we observe links between the devotees of the Holy Souls and the journey of the soul in Purgatory. The postmortem destinations of spirits, in turn, are studied through themes such as reincarnation and the illegitimate permanence of the spirit on Earth that is capable of causing diseases and other disorders in living humans. Finally, the thesis examines aspects of the relationship between the dead and the caboclos from the point of view of women engaged in jarê religion.

Contudo, pode-se observar que, apesar do sangue miscigenado correr nas veias de grande parte da população, poucos se reconhecem como tal, trazendo à tona um tipo de preconceito muitas vezes não assumido, denominado de preconceito de ter preconceito. Esta situação evidencia a triste condição dos brasileiros os quais, muitas vezes, não sabem ao certo quem eles realmente são. Este estudo, de natureza qualitativa, procurou resgatar as noções de corporeidade pertencentes a adeptos das religiões afro-brasileiras, por meio dos banhos rituais, visando à identificação da forte presença da cultura afro-brasileira na formação da história do Brasil. Para tanto, foram realizadas observações em dez terreiros na cidade de Rio Claro/SP, e realizadas entrevistas com dezoito fiéis, procurando resgatar a presença das noções de corpo no discurso dos mesmos. Os resultados mostraram que os adeptos destas religiões possuem uma relação de muita intimidade e apreço por seus corpos, sendo eles considerados como instrumentos utilizados na comunicação entre vivos e mortos, por meio de rituais propícios. Os rituais de purificação, por sua vez, atuam como facilitadores desta conexão, abreviando a caminhada do ser em direção a sua evolução espiritual. / It can be acknowledged that Brazilian people are the outcome of an almost accidental miscegenation of Europeans, Africans and Amerindians; this authentic syncretism accounts for the richness of Brazilian culture which is worldly recognized as a racial democracy. However, it can verified that, despite the diverse blood that runs in the veins of large part of the population, few people recognize such trait, which brings about a sort of an unveiled prejudice called the prejudice of having prejudice. This feature reveals Brazilians' distressing condition of not knowing who they really are. This qualitative study is an attempt to restore the notions of corporeity of Afro-Brazilian religion followers through bath rituals, and aims at identifying the strong influence of the Afro-Brazilian culture on the development of Brazilian history. For this study, ten religious yards in Rio Claro/SP were examined and eighteen religious followers were interviewed and asked about the notions of body in their speech. The results showed that the followers of these religions have a very intimate care and concern for their own bodies which are the instruments they use in order to allow the communication between the living and the dead through appropriate rituals. The rituals of purification are performed as path aids for this connection, shortening the progression of human beings toward their spiritual evolution.
