Ser bolsista no exterior : trajetoria de pesquisadores brasileiros na França / To be a grantee in another country : the trajectory of brazilian researchers in France

Garcia, Deomara Cristina Damasceno 14 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador:Leticia Bicalho Canedo / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Educação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-14T13:28:03Z (GMT). / Abstract: This research, that is part of the project "International Circulation and formation of Brazilian ruling classes" - FAPESP, was studied the trajectory of 14 brazilian grantees that, in the condition of temporary migrants, participated of a specialization in French institutions of academic excellency. The research was developed on the basis of questionnaires, interviews and analyses of "Currículo Lattes". In this research was possible to prove the meaning of the public agencies of promotion in the academic trajectory of each researcher. The objective was to understand the involvement of these grantees in projects of international cooperation and the possible implications in its world visions, as well as in the transformation of the possibilities of its professional careers in the national academic field. Two sources in the division of the groups of the interviewed ones were identified. The first source considered the position of the individuals in the dimension of the academic enrollment: the "youngest", students with continuous formation, searching for the establishment of a position in the academic field, aimed to reach a function of professor in a public university; and the "oldest", already acting in activities of education and research, were aiming for foreign specialization to obtain an international insertion and to establish scientific interchange; and to open new lines of research, aiming to the maintenance and improvement in the national academic field. The second source considered the mobilized dispositions for the grantees in the perfectioning of its academic trajectories and to surpass the difficulties to manage the daily situations in the other country. It was concluded that the process of international circulation implied in magnifying of the world vision, for both groups: either seeing the reality in new shapes, as well as to learn to dealing with the temporary relations and in the proficiency in the new language; in the possibilities in its professional careers: either in the formation of new social nets and a legitimacy in the national academic field as well as the experience in the international. / Mestrado / Educação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e Arte / Mestre em Educação

The Female Colonizer and Othered Woman in Isak Dinesen's Out of Africa, Jean Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea, Tayeb Salih's Season of Migration to the North, and Paule Marshall's The Chosen Place, The Timeless People

Sloan, Lindsay L 12 April 2010 (has links)
The central issue of this thesis is the complicated relationship between the colonized individual and the constitutive as well as emblematic female colonizer in Isak Dinesen's Out of Africa, Jean Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea, Tayeb Salih's Season of Migration to the North, and Paule Marshall's The Chosen Place, The Timeless People. Each of these novels displays colonization by a female (or females) and relates back to historical colonialism, but each characterizes the relationship between the oppressors and oppressed differently. Dinesen's and Rhys's works stem from historical colonization in which European colonizers conquered and ruled other territories; Annette and her daughter Antoinette, females born into slave-holding families in Wide Sargasso Sea, are fictional but empowered as a result of an actual colonial past, while the colonizer in Dinesen's memoir is Dinesen (née Karen Blixen), for she recounts her own autobiographical experience as a plantation owner living in Kenya in the early 1900s. Salih's and Marshall's novels are also based on the damaging effects of a colonial history, but simultaneously portray women who suffer from subordination and oppression within their own communities; Marshall details the relationship between an African-Caribbean woman and an American female colonizer, while Salih presents the tumultuous affairs between four European female colonizers and an African-Sudanese man. Additionally, Salih's novel focuses on Othered Sudanese women who are expected to adhere to the patriarchal laws of the tribe, but who prove themselves as agents by disavowing these laws. This thesis relies on postcolonial, feminist, and womanist methodologies.

Relative identities: father-daughter incest in Medieval English religious literature

Mann, Erin Irene 01 July 2011 (has links)
Medieval tales of father-daughter incest depict more than offensively dominant fathers and voiceless, victimized young women: these stories often contain moments of surprising counternarrative. My analysis of incest narratives foregrounds striking instances of feminine resistance, where daughters act independently, speak unrestrainedly, adopt masculine behaviors, and invert masculine gazes. I argue that daughters of incestuous fathers participate in a complex back-and-forth of attraction and rejection that thrusts the fraught nature of the incest into sharp relief, revealing the ways in which medieval families--as well as the medieval church and state--constructed and deconstructed identities and sexualities. Extending Judith Butler's insights on how incest tales interrogate state and kinship networks, I show how the liminal position of daughters in the family destabilizes the sex/gender system as it functioned in both the family and the larger world, secular and sacred. My dissertation thus relocates daughters from the periphery to the center of the medieval family. Christian thematics likewise provide a key framework for both my argument and medieval audiences: biblical translations and retellings, saints' lives, and moral exempla offered familiar points of reference. By revealing how authors and artists employed well-known religious stories to impart political readings of sexuality and of the family, the four chapters of my dissertation assert daughters' key role in medieval Christian culture. I examine both Anglo-Saxon texts--the biblical epic Genesis A and the prose Life of Euphrosyne--as well as the late medieval poem Cursor mundi and Chaucer's Clerk's Tale. My readings are enhanced by recourse to the medieval visual record offered by three manuscripts that illustrate the Lot story--British Library MS Cotton Claudius B.iv, the Old English Hexateuch, and Oxford Bodleian Library MSS Junius 11(the Genesis A manuscript) and Bodley 270b, a Biblé moralisée. Artistic renderings of father-daughter incest are no less unsettled than their literary counterparts, and demonstrate that the position of daughters was so fundamentally unstable that it often varied not only within an era, but also within a single manuscript. I argue that authors and artists radically reimagined the fundamental texts of the Middle Ages, including the Old Testament, to establish new narratives of sin and salvation, self and other, and power and submission.

Azzoug, Jade 13 September 2019 (has links)
This thesis focuses on Agence France-Presse (AFP), the leading news agency in France and one of the third largest in the world. The aim is to look at how AFP -- which has neither capital nor shareholders, which is subject to the contradictory rationales of politics, commerce and journalism, and which has always been close to the state public power, has been able at the same time to develop and grow, becoming a reference for media from around the world, with a presence on all continents and representing France and the French language across the globe.“AFP is a global news agency delivering fast, accurate, in-depth coverage of the events shaping our world from conflicts to politics, economics, sports, entertainment and the latest breakthroughs in health, science and technology. With 2,400 staff spread across almost every country, AFP covers the world 24 hours a day in six languages. AFP delivers the news in video, text, photos, multimedia and graphics to a wide range of customers including newspapers and magazines, radio and TV channels, web sites and portals, mobile operators, corporate clients as well as public institutions.”

Access, barriers to participation and success among adult students at a Technical, Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) College in the Western Cape, South Africa: Keeping the dream alive

Andrews, Priscilla January 2019 (has links)
Magister Educationis (Adult Learning and Global Change) - MEd(AL) / The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) in the White Paper for Post-School Education and Training outlines access, participation and barriers as critical issues in post-school education (DHET, 2013). The main aim of this research paper was to investigate the relationships between access, barriers to participation and success among adult students registered for the National Accredited Technical Diploma (NATED) specialisation in Early Childhood Development (ECD) at a TVET College in the Western Cape. Although I concentrated on the interplay between the adult students’ experiences related to access, participation and barriers, my primary interest relates to how and why adult students succeed despite the barriers that they encounter.

Architectural Agency Through Real Estate Development

Gondaliya, Hitali 15 July 2020 (has links)
In today’s world, architects are facing a problem of diminished control over the built environment. Across the industry, architects are forfeiting influence to developers, contractors, and lawyers due to increased concerns about innumerable risks. Architecture, for the most part, is dependent on other professions to create opportunities, and thus is not directly responsible for positive change. For architecture to accrue influence on how our built environment evolves into the future, it must understand and take a larger role within the real estate development process. The problem this thesis presents is that the position of architecture within this economics dominated power structure limits architects’ agency to affect a property’s use or influence its future use. The research delves into the standard development model, the real estate development process, design and construction, and operations of real estate practices in order to identify opportunities for architecture to engage in and enhance the process. This thesis proposes to understand a development process in Northampton, Massachusetts. It will illustrate that the opportunities and advantages of architect practicing as a developer to design and execute projects in the real world. Thus, for the research to be implemented through design, the chosen site includes several opportunities for a socially focused mixed-use development which responds well with the site and the surrounding context of Northampton.

Norm subsidiarity in the practice of diplomacy : a case analysis of Iran's nuclear programme

Kuun, Jacques January 2019 (has links)
This research studies norm subsidiarity in the practice of diplomacy. Norm subsidiarity is a concept found within norm diffusion scholarship. It is argued that this scholarship gives a privileged position to materially strong actors in its explanation of norm diffusion. The role of weaker states to support international norms is often ignored. Norm subsidiarity explains how materially weaker states support international norms to protect their autonomy from stronger actors. This research demonstrates the application of norm subsidiarity by tracing the history and context surrounding the diplomacy of Iran’s nuclear programme from its inception in 1957 to the present. Iran has successfully supported the norm of the peaceful use of nuclear energy by continuing to develop its nuclear programme. This is despite overwhelming international pressure from much stronger states who seek to stop this programme. The analysis shows that Iran’s actions can be described as a process of norm subsidiarity. This provides credibility to the argument that weaker states can play an important role in successfully supporting international norms, despite the desires of much stronger states. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2019. / Political Sciences / MA / Unrestricted

Children΄s voices on agency and influence in the Swedish preschool context. : A children's rights perspective.

Hristia, Evdokia January 2021 (has links)
This thesis aims to examine children’s perspectives about their agency and influence in the Swedish preschool context and what can be seen as hindrances by them that can challenge their agency and influence at the preschool. According to the United Nations Rights of the Child and specifically paragraph 1 in Article 12, children should be heard in every matter that affects them. Therefore, this research has been motivated by children’s right to influence and perform their agency on matters that affect them, especially at preschool, as it is a significant part of their everyday lives. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four 6-year-old children at a preschool located in Sweden. This qualitative work draws on a constructionist ontological position to examine how children construct social reality. Using thematic analysis, two main themes emerged: “children as agentic” and “children as non-agentic”. Moreover, from the first theme, two subthemes arose: “free play” and “agency in preschool everyday life” identified in which children perceive that they can perform agency and influence/participate at the preschool. The three subthemes that arose from the second theme were: "the teachers decide", “routines that hinder children’s agency” and "Learning activities" that present children's perceptions on what can hinder their agency and influence/participation at the preschool. The results showed that children perceive their agency as limited with mainly free play their area of performing agency. They perceive their pedagogues as the main decision-makers at the preschool and rigidly planned routines as hindrances of their agency.

Berufsfeld Sportmanagement: Multidimensionale Analyse einer kompetenzorientierten, berufsfeldadäquaten Hochschulbildung

Wohlfart, Olivia 21 December 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this publication-based dissertation is to investigate a field-adequate and competence-oriented higher education in sport management. Legitimized by the demands of a competence-oriented higher education through the Bologna-Reform, and on the basis of Agency-Theory, I assume a metaphor-ical contract between employers (principal) and sport management study programs (agent) in which the principal commissions the agent with the field-adequate qualification of graduates. Applying a mixed-methods design, seven scientific publications are used to investigate which competencies characterize the professional field of sport management, to what extent sport management degree programs in Ger-many are competence-oriented, and whether these succeed in qualifying sport management students in a way that is competence-oriented and appropriate to the needs of the professional field. The studies emphasize the relevance of generic competencies for sport managers as well as a lack of transparency in terms of content, objectives, and differentiation of sport management programs. The results also show that graduates perceive their competence-development as particularly highly developed concerning ge-neric competencies. With the results, existing information asymmetries between the actors are reduced and concrete implications for contract design are presented. The study thus supports the advancing professionalization of the young scientific discipline as well as the legitimization of sport management programs in the professional field of sport management. The following measures of a competence-oriented and field-adequate higher education in sport management are decisive, which are discussed in conclusion: (I) development of generic competencies, (II) clear differentiation between Bachelor and Mas-ter programs, and (III) specification of subject-specific competencies.
