Precious Metal-free Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

Exploring new technologies that can meet the world’s energy demands in an efficient and clean manner is critically important due to the depletion of natural resources and environmental concerns. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are low-cost and clean technology options that use solar energy efficiently and are being intensively studied. How to further reduce the cost of this technology while enhancing device performance is one of the demanding issues for large scale application and commercialization of DSSCs. In this research dissertation, four main contributions are made in this regard with the motivation to reduce further cost of DSSC technology. Firstly, ~10% efficiencies were achieved after developing understanding of key concepts and procedures involved in DSSCs fabrication. These efficiencies were achieved after step-by-step modifications in the DSSC design. Secondly, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were successfully employed as an alternative to Pt in the counter electrodes of DSSCs. DSSCs fabricated with CNTs were ~86% as efficient as Pt-based cells. Non-aligned CNTs were successfully grown using four different CVD methods and finally, multi-walled vertically aligned CNTs (MW-VACNTs) were synthesized using water-assisted chemical vapor deposition (WA-CVD). Thirdly, carbon derived from pyrolysis of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) was successfully employed in counter electrodes of DSSCs instead of Pt. DSSCs with NCC were ~58% as efficient as Pt-based DSSCs. Fourthly, novel organic metal-free dyes were designed and employed instead of commonly used Ru-based dyes. DSSCs with these novel sensitizers were ~62% as efficient as those using the conventional Ru-based dyes. Characterization techniques including current-voltage measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetery (CV), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used.

Numerical Modeling and Characterization of Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanotube Arrays

Since their discoveries, carbon nanotubes have been widely studied, but mostly in the forms of 1D individual carbon nanotube (CNT). From practical application point of view, it is highly desirable to produce carbon nanotubes in large scales. This has resulted in a new class of carbon nanotube material, called the vertically aligned carbon nanotube arrays (VA-CNTs). To date, our ability to design and model this complex material is still limited. The classical molecular mechanics methods used to model individual CNTs are not applicable to the modeling of VA-CNT structures due to the significant computational efforts required. This research is to develop efficient structural mechanics approaches to design, model and characterize the mechanical responses of the VA-CNTs. The structural beam and shell mechanics are generally applicable to the well aligned VA-CNTs prepared by template synthesis while the structural solid elements are more applicable to much complex, super-long VA-CNTs from template-free synthesis. VA-CNTs are also highly “tunable” from the structure standpoint. The architectures and geometric parameters of the VA-CNTs have been thoroughly examined, including tube configuration, tube diameter, tube height, nanotube array density, tube distribution pattern, among many other factors. Overall, the structural mechanics approaches are simple and robust methods for design and characterization of these novel carbon nanomaterials

Valorisation des analogies lexicales entre l'anglais et les langues romanes : étude prospective pour un dispositif plurilingue d'apprentissage du FLE dans le domaine de la santé / Emphasising lexical analogies between English and Romance languages : prospective study towards a plurilingual learning device of French for healthcare

Cette étude lexicologique prospective s'inscrit dans la didactique des L3. L’objectif est d’élaborer un interlexique anglais-espagnol-français-italien-portugais composé des adjectifs, noms et verbes anglais fréquents dans les écrits scientifiques de la santé, et de leurs équivalents de traduction analogues en espagnol, français, italien et portugais. Deux mots sont analogues s’ils ont le même sens et une forme similaire.Les rapports entre les concepts d'analogie, de similarité et d'identité sont examinés, les types d'analogies intralinguistiques et interlinguistiques illustrés et les principales analogies et dissemblances entre l’anglais, le français et les langues romanes exposées. L'existence de celles-ci est justifiée par les origines indoeuropéennes et surtout d'intenses contacts de langues. Après avoir rappelé l’importance de l’analogie dans l’apprentissage, nous montrons le lien entre notre recherche et deux types d’approches didactiques des langues : l'intercompréhension, qui développe la compréhension de langues voisines, et les approches sur corpus qui permettent de mieux connaitre et faire connaitre la phraséologie scientifique.Les 2000 lemmes anglais les plus fréquents ont été extraits du corpus scientifique anglais de ScienText, leurs 2208 acceptions fréquentes délimitées sur la base du profil combinatoire et triées en deux catégories sémantiques : lexique de spécialité et lexique scientifique transdisciplinaire. Les lemmes anglais ont été traduits dans les quatre langues romanes, et la similarité mesurée en fonction de la sous-chaine maximale commune (SMC).L’interlexique contient 47 % des acceptions fréquentes. Par couples de langues, l’analogie est encore plus élevée : anglais – français, 66 %, anglais-italien, 65 %, anglais-espagnol, 63 %, anglais-portugais, 58 %. Ce lexique analogue pourrait donc servir comme base de transfert dans des activités de FLE L3 pour des professionnels de la santé, et l’anglais L2 semble être une passerelle possible vers les langues romanes. Des activités plurilingues sont construites sur des concordances extraites des corpus multilingues alignés EMEA et Europarl. Un questionnement métalinguistique en anglais sensibilise à des traits (morpho)syntaxiques du français ; les analogies des deux langues sont systématiquement mises en relief, et dans les cas d'opacité, celles des autres langues romanes avec l’anglais. / This prospective lexicological investigation belongs to the field of L3 French didactics. The purpose is to elaborate a French-Italian-Portuguese-Spanish interlexicon out of the frequent adjectives, nouns and verbs of the healthcare scientific writings, and their analogue translation equivalents in French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Two words are analogue if they have the same meaning and a similar form.Related concepts of analogy, similarity and identity are discussed, types of intralinguistic and cross-linguistic analogies reviewed, and the main analogies and differences between English, French and Romance languages detailed. Their many analogies are justified by Indo-European origins and mostly by intense language contacts. Once the importance of analogy in learning procedures has been highlighted, we show how this research and two types of didactic approaches connect together: intercomprehension, which develops comprehension skills in neighbor languages, and corpus approaches which enable to get a closer insight into scientific phraseology.The 2000 most frequent English lemmas were extracted from the ScienText English scientific corpus, their 2208 frequent acceptions explored from their combinatory profile and sorted out in two semantic categories: healthcare subject-specific vocabulary and science specific trans-disciplinary vocabulary. The English lemmas were translated into the four Romance languages, and similarity measurements were carried out with the longest common substring method.The interlexicon contains 47% of the frequent acceptions. Analogy is even higher by language pairs: English – French, 66%, English – Italian, 65%, English - Spanish, 63%, English – Portuguese, 58%. Consequently, this analogue vocabulary could form a transfer basis in learning activities of L3 French for health care providers, and L2 English seems to be a possible bridge language toward Romance languages. Plurilingual activities are built on concordances extracted from multilingual aligned corpora (EMEA, Europarl). Metalinguistic questions in English point out (morpho)syntactic features of French; the analogies between both languages are systematically enhanced, and in case of lexical opacity, those between English and the other Romance languages.

Un premier objectif de cette thèse est la constitution de ressources linguistiques pour un système de traduction automatique statistique factorisée français - roumain. Un deuxième objectif est l’étude de l’impact des informations linguistiques exploitées dans le processus d’alignement lexical et de traduction. Cette étude est motivée, d’une part, par le manque de systèmes de traduction automatique pour la paire de langues étudiées et, d’autre part, par le nombre important d’erreurs générées par les systèmes de traduction automatique actuels. Les ressources linguistiques requises par ce système sont des corpus parallèles alignés au niveau propositionnel et lexical. Ces corpus sont également segmentés lexicalement, lemmatisés et étiquetés au niveau morphosyntaxique. / Our first aim is to build linguistic resources for a French - Romanian factored phrase - based statistical machine translation system. Our second aim is to study the impact of exploited linguistic information in the lexical alignment and translation process. On the one hand, this study is motivated by the lack of such systems for the studied languages. On the other hand, it is motivated by the high number of errors provided by the current machine translation systems. The linguistic resources required by the system are tokenized, lemmatized, tagged, word, and sentence - aligned parallel corpora.

The knowledge continuum as an enabler for growth and sustainability in the South African basic education system / Mariè Steenhuisen.

The poor state and failure of the basic education system in South Africa gave rise to this research. The wave of knowledge loss experienced in the last two decades is expected to carry on and will continue to deplete the basic education system’s knowledge base, severely affecting the already poor quality of education as well as the future economic growth and sustainability in South Africa. The main research objective was to establish whether future growth and sustainability in the basic education system in South Africa is achievable; which factors it is influenced by; and how knowledge continuity could impact on future growth and sustainability. A multidisciplinary approach focusing on organisational performance, knowledge management, individual and organisational behaviour and organisational development was followed. The nature of growth and sustainability and knowledge continuity in organisations was explored by following a contextualisation theory-building process. The main objective of the empirical research study was to determine by means of quantitative research the degree to which the influencing factors would enhance or impede growth and sustainability in an organisation. A quantitative survey method was followed. A questionnaire was developed and the survey was performed in 6 primary and secondary schools of the basic education system in South Africa. The questionnaire was found to be reliable with a Cronbach’s alpha of .8060. In the descriptive factor analysis process, principal component factor analysis was conducted, which described the five constructs that would influence growth and sustainability. These constructs’ dimensions produced significant intercorrelations which indicate that the dimensions are for the most part intercorrelated with each other in contributing to growth and sustainability. The multiple regression analysis indicated that knowledge loss would have an exceptionally strong impact on knowledge; and that knowledge, information and performance would significantly predict growth and sustainability. Organisations should change the focus for growth from physical assets to the development of intellectual capital, and knowledge continuity should form part of an organisations’ business strategy and mission. Knowledge continuity will only be successful if a culture conducive of trust and knowledge sharing and transfer exist, and are supported by effective and appropriate human resource practices and incentives. A structural equation model development strategy produced a knowledge continuity model aimed at enabling future growth and sustainability, based on the constructs confirmed in the factor analysis. The model indicated that there is a direct causal relationship between knowledge, information and performance with growth and sustainability. The regression analysis showed that most of the intercorrelations are significant, thus confirming the theory. The newly developed questionnaire and structural equation model should enable organisations to measure the degree to which the enhancing individual and organisational behavioural factors of growth and sustainability are in place and provide the measurement outcomes that would identify the factors that need to be focused on to improve and enable future growth and sustainability in an organisation. / Thesis (MBA)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013.

Since there is a continuous shrinking of feature sizes in ultra-large scale integrated (ULSI) circuits, requirements on materials and technology are going to rise dramatically in the near future. In particular, at the interconnect system this calls for new concepts and materials. Therefore, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered as a promising material to replace partly or entirely metal interconnects in such devices. The present thesis aims to make a contribution to the CNT growth control with the thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method and the integration of CNTs as vertical interconnects (vias) in ULSI circuits. Different support/catalyst systems are examined in processes for catalyst pretreatment and CNT growth. The investigations focus on the catalyst formation and the interactions at the interfaces. Those effects are related to the CNT growth. To get an insight into interactions at interfaces, film structure, composition, and CNT growth characteristics, samples are extensively characterized by techniques like AFM, SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy. Screening studies on nanoparticle formation and CNT growth with the well known system SiO2/Ni are presented. This system is characterized by a weak support/catalyst interaction, which leads to undirected growth of multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs). By contrast, at the Ta/Ni system a strong interaction causes a wetting of catalyst nanoparticles and vertically aligned MWCNT growth. At the system W/Ni a strong interaction at the interface is found as well, but there it induces Stranski-Krastanov catalyst film reformation upon pretreatment and complete CNT growth inhibition. Studies on the SiO2/Cr/Ni system reveal that Cr and Ni act as a bi-catalyst system, which leads to a novel nanostructure defined as interlayer CNT (ICNT) structure. The ICNT films are characterized by well crystallized vertically aligned MWCNTs, which grow out a Cr/Ni layer lifted off as a continuous and very smooth layer from the substrate with the growth. Besides, this nanostructure offers new possibilities for the integration of CNTs in different electronic applications. Based on the presented possibilities of manipulating CNT growth, an integration technology was derived to fabricate CNT vias. The technology uses a surface mediated site-selective CVD for the growth of MWCNTs in via structures. Developments are demonstrated with the fabrication of via test vehicles and the site-selective growth of MWCNTs in vias on 4 inch wafers. Furthermore, the known resistance problem of CNT vias, caused by too low CNT density, is addressed by a new approach. A CNT/metal heterostructure is considered, where the metal is implemented through atomic layer deposition (ALD). The first results of the coating of CNTs with readily reducible copper oxide nanoparticles are presented and discussed. / Aufgrund der kontinuierlichen Verkleinerung von Strukturen in extrem hoch integrierten (engl. Ultra-Large Scale Integration − ULSI) Schaltkreisen werden die Anforderungen an die Materialien und die Technologie in naher Zukunft dramatisch ansteigen. Besonders im Leitbahnsystem sind neue Materialien und Konzepte gefragt. Kohlenstoffnanoröhren (engl. Carbon Nanotubes − CNT) stellen hierbei ein vielversprechendes Material dar, um teilweise oder sogar vollständig metallische Leitbahnen zu ersetzen. Die vorliegende Arbeit liefert einen Beitrag zur CNT-Wachstumskontrolle mit der thermischen Gasphasenabscheidung (engl. Chemical Vapor Deposition − CVD) sowie der Integration von CNTs als vertikale Leitungsverbindungen (Via) in ULSI-Schaltkreisen. Verschiedene Untergrund/Katalysator-Systeme werden in Prozessen zur Katalysatorvorbehandlung sowie zum CNT-Wachstum betrachtet. Die Untersuchungen richten sich insbesondere auf die Katalysatorformierung und die Wechselwirkungen an den Grenzflächen. Diese werden mit dem CNT-Wachstum in Verbindung gebracht. Für Untersuchungen von Grenzflächeninteraktionen, Schichtstruktur, Zusammensetzung sowie CNT-Wachstumscharakteristik werden Analysen mit AFM, REM, TEM, XRD, XPS und Raman-Spektroskopie genutzt. Zunächst werden Voruntersuchungen an dem gut bekannten System SiO2/Ni zur Nanopartikelformierung und CNTWachstum vorgestellt. Dieses System ist gekennzeichnet durch eine schwache Wechselwirkung zwischen Untergrund und Katalysator sowie ungerichtetem Wachstum von mehrwandigen CNTs (MWCNTs). Im Gegensatz dazu hat bei dem System Ta/Ni eine starke Interaktion an der Grenzfläche eine Katalysatornanopartikelbenetzung und vertikales MWCNT-Wachstum zur Folge. Für das W/Ni-System gelten ebenfalls starke Interaktionen an der Grenzfläche. Bei diesem System wird allerdings eine Stranski-Krastanov-Schichtformierung des Katalysators und eine vollständige Unterbindung von CNT-Wachstum erreicht. Bei dem System SiO2/Cr/Ni agieren Cr und Ni als Bi- Katalysatorsystem. Dies führt zu einer neuartigen Nanostruktur, die als Zwischenschicht-CNT (engl. Interlayer Carbon Nanotubes − ICNTs) Struktur definiert wird. Die Schichten sind durch eine gute Qualität von gerichteten MWCNTs charakterisiert, die aus einer geschlossenen, sehr glatten und von den CNTs getragenen Cr/Ni-Schicht herauswachsen. Darüber hinaus bietet die Struktur neue Möglichkeiten für die Integration von CNTs in verschiedene elektronische Anwendungen. Auf der Grundlage der vorgestellten Manipulationsmöglichkeiten von CNT-Wachstum wurde eine Integrationstechnologie für CNTs in Vias abgeleitet. Der Ansatz ist eine oberflächeninduzierte selektive CVD von vertikal gerichteten MWCNTs in Via-Strukturen. Diese Technologie wird mit der Herstellung von einem Via-Testvehikel und dem selektiven CNT-Wachstum in Vias auf 4 Zoll Wafern demonstriert. Um das Widerstandsproblem von CNT-Vias, verursacht durch eine zu niedrige CNT-Dichte, zu reduzieren, wird eine Technologieerweiterung vorgeschlagen. Der Ansatz geht von einer CNT/Metall-Heterostruktur aus, bei der das Metall mit Hilfe der Atomlagenabscheidung (engl. Atomic Layer Deposition − ALD) implementiert wird. Es werden erste Ergebnisse zur CNT-Beschichtung mit reduzierbaren Kupferoxidnanopartikeln vorgestellt und diskutiert.

La politique extérieure de l'Inde en Afrique / The Indian foreign policy in Africa

Depuis 2001 et la recomposition des équilibres de puissance, l'Inde s'affirme comme l'un des acteurs qui compte dans un espace international de plus en plus multipolaire. Les mouvements de fond actuels provoquent une redistribution de cette puissance imposant de nouvelles alliances et de nouveaux jeux de pouvoirs. L'Inde n'est pas étrangère à cette tendance et encore plus depuis l'arrivée au pouvoir, en 2014, de l'actuel Premier ministre, Narendra Modi. Ce dernier conduit une politique extérieure ambitieuse pour que son pays accède à un statut de puissance mondiale. C'est dans ce cadre que se pose notre problématique qui est de savoir dans quelle mesure la place de l'Afrique dans la politique étrangère indienne permet-elle justement à l'Inde de parvenir à se hisser à ce statut de puissance. Pour y répondre, cette thèse investigue trois directions. D'abord, la place de l'océan Indien dans la relation indo-africaine doit rendre compte du rôle de l'Afrique dans la volonté indienne de faire de cet océan un espace pacifique et sécurisé sur lequel l'Inde puisse être un acteur incontournable face à des acteurs politiques puissants et hétérogènes. Ensuite, cette thèse s'attache à déterminer le rôle que l'Afrique joue dans la volonté de l'Inde d'être une puissance ayant une capacité d'influence politique sur la scène internationale au travers des instances internationales, de ses relations bilatérales avec les États africains et de la diaspora indienne installée dans ces pays. Enfin, cette recherche de statut passe par le champ économique et la nécessaire évaluation de l'empreinte économique que l'Inde souhaite imprimer en Afrique pour mieux asseoir ses capacités d'influence. Cette étude doit permettre de donner un éclairage sur la politique extérieure indienne à l'heure où les États-Unis réévaluent leur implication dans l'océan Indien, où la Chine met en place la « One Belt, One Road » et où l'Inde et le Japon viennent de s'unir pour proposer un nouveau partenariat à l'Afrique. / Since 2001 and the reshuffling of the balance of power, India has become one of the influential actors in an increasingly multipolar international context. The current groundswells are reshuffling powers between Nations in shaping new alliances and new power games. India is, more than ever, involved in this trend since the current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, came to power in 2014. He conducts an ambitious foreign policy as a means to make his country a global and respected power. The context of the issue detailed in this document is: to what extent does Africa's place in India's foreign policy enables India to reach this status of power? This thesis investigates the following three themes: Firstly, the Indian Ocean's place in the Indo-African relationship should reflect Africa's role in India's will to make the Indian Ocean region a peaceful and secured space in which India is a decisive player in front of powerful and heterogeneous political actors. Secondly, this thesis focuses on assessing Africa's role in India's initiatives to be an influential player on politics on the international agenda through international bodies, its bilateral relations with African states and the Indian diaspora settled down in these countries. Thirdly, India's search for that particular status goes through the economic area and the assessment of India's economic footprint in Africa to better establish its influence on that Continent. This study tries to shed the light on India's foreign policy while the United States are reassessing their involvement in the Indian Ocean, and while China is setting up its "One Belt, One Road" and India and Japan have just come together to propose a new partnership to Africa.

To get an insight into interactions at interfaces, film structure, composition, and CNT growth characteristics, samples are extensively characterized by techniques like AFM, SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy. Screening studies on nanoparticle formation and CNT growth with the well known system SiO2/Ni are presented. This system is characterized by a weak support/catalyst interaction, which leads to undirected growth of multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs). By contrast, at the Ta/Ni system a strong interaction causes a wetting of catalyst nanoparticles and vertically aligned MWCNT growth. At the system W/Ni a strong interaction at the interface is found as well, but there it induces Stranski-Krastanov catalyst film reformation upon pretreatment and complete CNT growth inhibition. Studies on the SiO2/Cr/Ni system reveal that Cr and Ni act as a bi-catalyst system, which leads to a novel nanostructure defined as interlayer CNT (ICNT) structure. The ICNT films are characterized by well crystallized vertically aligned MWCNTs, which grow out a Cr/Ni layer lifted off as a continuous and very smooth layer from the substrate with the growth. Besides, this nanostructure offers new possibilities for the integration of CNTs in different electronic applications. Based on the presented possibilities of manipulating CNT growth, an integration technology was derived to fabricate CNT vias. The technology uses a surface mediated site-selective CVD for the growth of MWCNTs in via structures. Developments are demonstrated with the fabrication of via test vehicles and the site-selective growth of MWCNTs in vias on 4 inch wafers. Furthermore, the known resistance problem of CNT vias, caused by too low CNT density, is addressed by a new approach. A CNT/metal heterostructure is considered, where the metal is implemented through atomic layer deposition (ALD). The first results of the coating of CNTs with readily reducible copper oxide nanoparticles are presented and discussed. / Aufgrund der kontinuierlichen Verkleinerung von Strukturen in extrem hoch integrierten (engl. Ultra-Large Scale Integration − ULSI) Schaltkreisen werden die Anforderungen an die Materialien und die Technologie in naher Zukunft dramatisch ansteigen. Besonders im Leitbahnsystem sind neue Materialien und Konzepte gefragt. Kohlenstoffnanoröhren (engl. Carbon Nanotubes − CNT) stellen hierbei ein vielversprechendes Material dar, um teilweise oder sogar vollständig metallische Leitbahnen zu ersetzen. Die vorliegende Arbeit liefert einen Beitrag zur CNT-Wachstumskontrolle mit der thermischen Gasphasenabscheidung (engl. Chemical Vapor Deposition − CVD) sowie der Integration von CNTs als vertikale Leitungsverbindungen (Via) in ULSI-Schaltkreisen. Verschiedene Untergrund/Katalysator-Systeme werden in Prozessen zur Katalysatorvorbehandlung sowie zum CNT-Wachstum betrachtet. Die Untersuchungen richten sich insbesondere auf die Katalysatorformierung und die Wechselwirkungen an den Grenzflächen. Diese werden mit dem CNT-Wachstum in Verbindung gebracht. Für Untersuchungen von Grenzflächeninteraktionen, Schichtstruktur, Zusammensetzung sowie CNT-Wachstumscharakteristik werden Analysen mit AFM, REM, TEM, XRD, XPS und Raman-Spektroskopie genutzt. Zunächst werden Voruntersuchungen an dem gut bekannten System SiO2/Ni zur Nanopartikelformierung und CNTWachstum vorgestellt. Dieses System ist gekennzeichnet durch eine schwache Wechselwirkung zwischen Untergrund und Katalysator sowie ungerichtetem Wachstum von mehrwandigen CNTs (MWCNTs). Im Gegensatz dazu hat bei dem System Ta/Ni eine starke Interaktion an der Grenzfläche eine Katalysatornanopartikelbenetzung und vertikales MWCNT-Wachstum zur Folge. Für das W/Ni-System gelten ebenfalls starke Interaktionen an der Grenzfläche. Bei diesem System wird allerdings eine Stranski-Krastanov-Schichtformierung des Katalysators und eine vollständige Unterbindung von CNT-Wachstum erreicht. Bei dem System SiO2/Cr/Ni agieren Cr und Ni als Bi- Katalysatorsystem. Dies führt zu einer neuartigen Nanostruktur, die als Zwischenschicht-CNT (engl. Interlayer Carbon Nanotubes − ICNTs) Struktur definiert wird. Die Schichten sind durch eine gute Qualität von gerichteten MWCNTs charakterisiert, die aus einer geschlossenen, sehr glatten und von den CNTs getragenen Cr/Ni-Schicht herauswachsen. Darüber hinaus bietet die Struktur neue Möglichkeiten für die Integration von CNTs in verschiedene elektronische Anwendungen. Auf der Grundlage der vorgestellten Manipulationsmöglichkeiten von CNT-Wachstum wurde eine Integrationstechnologie für CNTs in Vias abgeleitet. Der Ansatz ist eine oberflächeninduzierte selektive CVD von vertikal gerichteten MWCNTs in Via-Strukturen. Diese Technologie wird mit der Herstellung von einem Via-Testvehikel und dem selektiven CNT-Wachstum in Vias auf 4 Zoll Wafern demonstriert. Um das Widerstandsproblem von CNT-Vias, verursacht durch eine zu niedrige CNT-Dichte, zu reduzieren, wird eine Technologieerweiterung vorgeschlagen. Der Ansatz geht von einer CNT/Metall-Heterostruktur aus, bei der das Metall mit Hilfe der Atomlagenabscheidung (engl. Atomic Layer Deposition − ALD) implementiert wird. Es werden erste Ergebnisse zur CNT-Beschichtung mit reduzierbaren Kupferoxidnanopartikeln vorgestellt und diskutiert.
