Effect of the bandwidth on the accuracy of AOA estimation algorithms in a multipath environment

Ghazaany, Tahereh S., Zhu, Shaozhen (Sharon), Jones, Steven M.R., Abd-Alhameed, Raed, Noras, James M., Van Buren, T., Suggett, T., Marker, S. January 2014 (has links)
No / This paper investigates the effect of channel bandwidth on the accuracy of AOA estimation algorithms based on the detection of the direct path. The accurate detection of the Line of Sight (LOS) signal in a multipath environment is crucial for reliable direction finding. In this work, the estimation algorithms are applied to the LOS component in the time domain channel impulse response which is acquired by applying the inverse Fourier transform to the simulated channel transfer function in the desired bandwidth. Different channel bandwidths as well as two AOA estimation methods have been considered in the modelling to investigate the performance of the standard deviation of angle estimation error. It has been shown that increasing the bandwidth in all simulated channel scenarios improves the estimation accuracy. / Seven Technologies Group, KTP project grant No. 008734.

Development of Shared Situation Awareness Guidelines and Metrics as Developmental and Analytical Tools for Augmented and Virtual Reality User Interface Design in Human-Machine Teams

Van Dam, Jared Martindale Mccolskey 21 August 2023 (has links)
As the frontiers and futures of work evolve, humans and machines will begin to share a more cooperative working space where collaboration occurs freely amongst the constituent members. To this end, it is then necessary to determine how information should flow amongst team members to allow for the efficient sharing and accurate interpretation of information between humans and machines. Shared situation awareness (SSA), the degree to which individuals can access and interpret information from sources other than themselves, is a useful framework from which to build design guidelines for the aforementioned information exchange. In this work, we present initial Augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) design principles for shared situation awareness that can help designers both (1) design efficacious interfaces based on these fundamental principles, and (2) evaluate the effectiveness of candidate interface designs based on measurement tools we created via a scoping literature review. This work achieves these goals with focused studies that 1) show the importance of SSA in augmented reality-supported tasks, 2) describe design guidelines and measurement tools necessary to support SSA, and 3) validate the guidelines and measurement tools with a targeted user study that employs an SSA-derived AR interface to confirm the guidelines distilled from the literature review. / Doctor of Philosophy / As the way in which humans work and play changes, people and machines will need to work together in shared spaces where team members rely on one another to complete goals. To make this interaction happen in ways that benefit both humans and machines, we will need to figure out the best way for information to flow between team members, including both humans and machines. Shared situation awareness (SSA) is a helpful concept that allows us to understand how people can get and understand information from sources other than themselves. In this research, we present some basic ideas for designing augmented reality (AR) tools that help people work together in better ways using SSA as a guiding framework. These ideas can help designers (1) create AR tools that work well based on these basic ideas and (2) test how well different interface designs work using specially developed tools we made. We completed user studies to (1) show how important SSA is when using AR to help with tasks, (2) explain the design ideas and tools needed to support SSA, and (3) test these ideas and tools with a study that uses an AR tool, based on SSA, to make sure the guidelines we got from reading other research are correct.

Dynamic Simulations of Compact Gearbox for Robots

Urasim, Muhammad January 2024 (has links)
This thesis project is conducted in collaboration with Swepart Transmission AB, aimed to dynamically simulate the compact gearbox design with planetary gears meant to be used in robots. The primary objective of this project is to analyze operational principles of planetary gears and their suitability for mitigating lost motion (backlash). Simulations have been carried out using MSC Adams software where the input speed is 1400 rpm on the pinion gear, which is equal to 1100 deg/s when applied to the sun gear. An adjustment gear is mounted atop sun gear, which is used to adjust the position of the planet gears and it is locked with different variations of 0, 5 and 10 degrees of angular displacement to adjust the planet gears. Additionally, one of the planet gears is selected and the position of teeth in that planet gear is deviated by 10, 20, 30 and 40 micrometers and these new gears are then placed in position of the existing planet gear one by one. These models are then simulated to study the variations and effects of angular velocity on the ring gears, angular velocity of the adjustment gear, displacement in radial direction of the planet gear after it is adjusted, force and torque generated on contact between the planet gear and the ring gear over a period of 5 seconds using 1000 time steps.

Ramverk i en MPA miljö : Jämförelse mellan React och Angular / Frameworks in a MPA environment : Comparison between React and Angular

Boström Nilsson, Richard January 2024 (has links)
The usage of e-commerce web applications is an ever-growing business model that has taken over some companies' main revenue source. When building these applications, the decision on which architectural option to choose for the application is made, such as multi-page or single-page, but there is also the option on what tools the developer will utilize. Some of these tools are React and Angular frameworks, which provide a unique experience when developing applications. React provides a structure that uses the FLUX pattern, and Angular provides an MVC pattern. Two artifacts have been created to compare these frameworks, run with the program XAMPP to have a database connection. By running a script that navigates the applications, an analysis of which frameworks are more fitting for a multi-paging and e-commerce environment could be decided, followed by an ethical discussion and potential future work.

Probing the modal characteristics of novel beam shapes

Mourka, Areti January 2014 (has links)
In this thesis, an investigation into the modal characteristics of novel beam shapes is presented. Sculpting the phase profile of a Gaussian beam can result in the generation of a beam with unique properties. Described in this thesis are Laguerre-Gaussian (LG), Hermite-Gaussian (HG) and Bessel beams (BBs). The diffraction of LG beam modes from a triangular aperture is explored and this effect can be used for the efficient measurement of the azimuthal mode index l that indicates the number of multiples of 2π of phase changes that the field displays around one circumference of the optical axis. In this study, only LG beams with zero radial mode index p, with p + 1 denoting the number of bright high intensity concentric rings around the optical axis, were considered. Then, a powerful approach to simultaneously determine both mode indices of a pure LG beam using the principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm on the observed far-field diffraction patterns was demonstrated. Owing to PCA algorithm, the shape of the diffracting element used to measure the mode indices is in fact of little importance and the crucial step is ‘training' any diffracting optical system and transforming the observed far-field diffraction patterns into the uncorrelated variables (principal components). Our PCA method is generic and it was extended to other families of light fields such as HG, Bessel and superposed beams. This reinforces the widespread applicability of this method for various applications. Finally, both theoretically and experimentally investigations using interferometry show the definitive linkage between both the radial and azimuthal mode indices of a partially coherent LG beam and the dislocation rings in the far-field cross-correlation function (CCF).

Estudo da reação (d,t) nos isótopos 100, 102 e 104 do rutênio / Reaction (d, t) study on 100, 102, 104 Ru

Duarte, Jose Luciano Miranda 21 August 1991 (has links)
Neutron-hole components in 99, 101, 103 Ru Isotopes were Investigated by (d,t) reactions at incident deuteron energies of 15.5 MeV and 16 MeV on, respectively, 100 Ru and 102,104 Ru. Outgoing triton groups were momentum analyzed by a magnetic spectrograph and dctectcd in nuclear emulsion plates with an energy resolution better than 8 keV. A total of 14, 36 and 46 leveis up to 1.4, 2.1 and 2.5 MeV excitation energy were identified, respectively, 99, 101, 103 Ru. The transferred orbital angular momenta, l, and the spectroscopic strengths were obtained by con1paring experimental angular distributions, measured at carefully chosen scattering angles between 8º and 46º, with Distorted Wave Born Approximation predictions. The analysis of the spectroscopic strength distributions corresponding to each l-value reveals a similar pattern among the three isotopes, although there is a shift of the highest strengths towards low energy, for increasing neutron number, indicating increasing deform at ion. Special attention is drawn to transitions to low-lying states with l=3 and l=1 character, associated with the next major shell, whose description is discussed in terms of a quasiparticle-prolate non-rigid rotor model with the Coriolis effect fully treated, and the Interacting Boson-Fermion Model.

Mapeamento de genes análogos de resistência a patógenos em feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) / Mapping resistance gene analogs in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

Santini, Luciane 27 January 2010 (has links)
In the presenty study, the NBS-profiling method was used for the development of RGA (Resistance Gene Analogs) markers in two populations of Phaseolus vulgaris, one derived from a cross between \'Bat 93\' and \'Jalo EEP558\' (BJ) and the other derived from a cross between \'Carioca\' and \'Flor de Mayo (CFM). After their identification, 32 RGA markers were mapped on the BJ population and 40 on the CFM population. Nine of the markers assigned to the linkage map of the BJ population were located in the proximity to clusters of resistance already identified by other researchers. We carried out the sequencing of 32 out of the RGA detected, being 16 from each population. Five sequences derived from the BJ population and three sequences from the CFM population showed similarity to resistance proteins identified in P. vulgaris, Glycine max and Medicago truncaluta. The linkage map here generated for the CFM population was used for the positioning of QTL (Quantitative Trait Loci) for resistance to angular leaf spot (Pseudocercospora griseola (Sacc.) Crous & Braun) and powdery mildew (Erysiphe polygoni DC.). Twelve QTL were mapped, five associated to the response to the angular leaf spot and seven to the powdery mildew.

Modelling of directional thermal radiation and angular correction on land surface temperature from space / Modélisation du rayonnement thermique directionnel et corrections angulaires de la température de surface mesurée à distance

Ren, Huazhong 24 May 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is the modeling of surface directional thermal radiation and angular correction on the LST by using empirical and physical methods as well as the analysis of field validation. The work has conducted to some conclusions. The directional emissivity of natural surfaces was obtained from MODIS emissivity product and then used in the split-window algorithm for angular correction on LST. The parameterization models of directional emissivity and thermal radiation were developed. As for the non-isothermal pixels, the daytime-TISI method was proposed to retrieve directional emissivity and effective temperature from multi-angular middle and thermal infrared data. This was validated using an airborne dataset. The kernel-driven BRDF model was checked in the thermal infrared domain and its extension was used to make angular normalization on the LST. A new model, namely FovMod that concerns on the footprint of ground sensor, was developed to simulate directional brightness temperature of row crop canopy. Based on simulation result of the FovMod, an optimal footprintfor field validation of LST was obtained. This thesis has systematically investigated the topic of directional thermal radiation and angular correction on surface temperature and its findings will improve the retrieval accuracy of temperature and emissivity from remotely sensed data and will also provide suggestion for the future design of airborne or spaceborne multi-angular thermal infrared sensors and also for the ground measurement of surface parameters.

Estudo de bandas rotacionais nos núcleos ímpar-ímpar 132,134La / Study of rotational bands in odd-odd nuclei 132,134La

Oliveira, Jose Roberto Brandao de 19 December 1989 (has links)
The odd-odd nuclei 132,134La were studied by means of in-beam -ray spectroscopy techniques, using (HI, xn) reactions with 10,11B (40-48 MeV), 14N (55 MeV) beams on 128,128Te and 122 Sn targets. A band, probably based on the h11/2 and h11/2 configuration, was observed in each La isotope showing moderate signature splitting. Another band was observed in 132La with essentially no signature splitting. The results are compared with the triaxial Cranking Shell Model predictions. The relation between triaxiality and signature splitting in the A ~ 130 transitional mass region is discussed.

Dybeck, Markus January 2017 (has links)
Omnia HR is a HR-platform developed for Microsoft SharePoint. In this article, the creation of a smaller part for the platform – the onboarding – is described. When a new employee is hired, the company need to do some tasks before the new employees first day, that’s what the onboarding is all about. In this project conditions to administrate and handle these tasks were made.   The project was written in the programing language TypeScript, developed by Microsoft. TypeScript is superset of JavaScript and is transpiled down to pure JavaScript with support for the latest functions. In this rapport pros and cons by using TypeScript for a project is discussed, and if it actually makes the process easier or if it’s just as good to use regular JavaScript.
