Bohmgahren, Cintia Neves January 2013 (has links)
The murals of the professor artists Aldo Locatelli (1915-1962) and João Fahrion (1898-1970), existent in the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) buildings – the Instituto de Artes and the Rectory – , despite of those works had already been restored in the 2000’s, the murals were not studied by the optic of the art historiography yet.

Demuth, Birgit, Rohde, Frank, Aßmann, Uwe 20 March 2024 (has links)

Taking Control, Women of Lorient, France Direct Their Lives Despite the German Occupation (June 1940-May 1945)

Le Corre-Cochran, Victoria Ann 31 March 2003 (has links)
This thesis argues that from June 1940 when German soldiers occupied Lorient, France until May 8, 1945 when the Lorient "Pocket" surrendered, although the women of this port city faced drastic changes, they took control of their everyday lives. They did what it took to feed and clothe their families, working, standing in lines, buying on the black market, bartering, demonstrating, and recycling. They developed relationships with German soldiers which ran the gamut. Due to aerial raids in the context of the Battle of the Atlantic, they sought shelter, buried their dead, took care of their wounded, looked for new lodging, and helped each other. They even tried to have some fun. After evacuation in early 1943, scattered to the four winds, in the American held "Lorient Sector," they served as advocates for others and made inquiries to the American 66th Infantry Division Counter-Intelligence Service. At the Liberation women were easy targets for blame, and some from Lorient were punished, notably for "horizontal collaboration" with Germans. When the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Liberation of Lorient was celebrated in 1995, the story of the women of Lorient was essentially left out. / Master of Arts

Oslavy uherského milénia 1896 / Celebrations of Hungarian Millennium in 1896

Šťovíčková, Anna January 2012 (has links)
In the year 1896 Hungary celebrated the 1000th anniversary of the Magyar settlement in the Carpathian Basin. The preparations started in the early 80's of 19th century. Originally they planned to celebrate in 1895, since it was decided that the conquest had happened in 895. But there was not enough time to prepare, so they postponed the festivities. Even though there was widespread development in industry and culture at the end of 19th century, the situation in Hungary was very complicated. The main problem was the relationship of Hungarians within the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, changes in that society, and the situation of national minorities and the working-class. During the celebrations of the millennial anniversary, these discussed topics were overlooked while everybody was occupied with the festivities. Hungarians tried to present their glorious past, their country's successful economy, industry, and culture to prove that Hungary was the foremost nation in the Carpathian Basin. The Hungarian parliament passed a law to celebrate the millennium that ordered, for example, the building of monuments around Hungary and the founding of The Museum of Fine Arts and 400 elementary schools. Throughout the country there were opening ceremonies, festivities, meetings, processions, parades, and unveilings...

Květen 1945 optikou deníku Mladá fronta v časové spirále 65 let / May 1945in optics of journal Mlada fronta in time-spiral of 65 years

Stoszková, Šárka January 2011 (has links)
The thesis "Looking through the lens of the Czech daily newspaper Mlada fronta for 65 years" examines the topic of the liberation of Czechoslovakia in May, 1945. The qualitative content analysis of selected texts available from the newspaper is used to explore the interpretation of the event in Mlada fronta. The thesis has concentrated on the development of attitudes, beliefs, ways of communications and journalistic transformation of media content concerning the liberation event over time. The main objective has been to answer the question as to whether the media portrayal of the event has remained constant or altered over the stated time period and which factors influenced the portrayal. In the conclusion of this thesis we can confirm that the monitored event has been described differently in different time periods respectively, in connection with political progress and the value of democracy in the country. The more totalitarian the regime, the more the newspaper has described freedom through preferred ideology, biased themes, dogmatic posture and offered interpretations that suited the ruling party. This indicates a form of totalitarian hegemony. During periods of greater totalitarianism, the newspaper tends to describe the theme of the freedom completely within that communist ideology. However,...
