The scope of this study is to describe the argumentative strategies students use in a debate situation in order to construct knowledge. This study was carried out in two different learning contexts; a classic role in the first debate, where some participants take a position in favour of a component of the dilemma to be faced and others defend the contrary position. And a second debate of role-playing, in which participants adopt a professional role and attitude in the dramatization of a professional meeting with the purpose of reaching agreement to solve a practical case. The aims of this research focuses on a) finding out the participants' declarative knowledge about debate as a methodology to contruct knowledge, b) studying written and oral argumentative strategies of firstyear undergraduate students, c) analyzing the content and structure of oral argumentation when it is understood as a sequence of argument, counterargument and refutation, d) analyzing the types of counterarguments and refutations, argumentative sequences, patterns of interaction and e) analyzing the polyphonic incorporation (other voices) in the initial texts, oral discussions and final texts. In order to achieve these aims, an ex post facto methodology has been adopted, with a descriptive-explanatory approach, and a combined design of data analysis with quantitative and qualitative techniques. For each aim several levels of analysis were carried out: for the whole students (n=77), for each seminary group and according to two types of debates. The results indicate an improvement in the argumentative writing strategies development due to group interaction effects, as well as significant changes in points of view on the issues discussed. In terms of oral argument speech, participants expressed the same argument structure and similar sequences and interaction patterns in both debates. However, in some thematic episodes there is an adaptation to the demands of the task that involves changes in the interaction patterns. Moreover, there are also significant differences between the different voices from the readings and discussions, both in written and oral students' production.

[en] BUILDING A THEORETICAL AND ANALYTICAL MODEL OF THE ARGUMENTATIVE DISCOURSE IN THE EARLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GRADES: A SOCIOCOGNITIVE AND SOCIODISCURSIVE APPROACH OF OPINION ESSAY / [pt] CONSTRUINDO UM MODELO TEÓRICO E ANALÍTICO DO DISCURSO ARGUMENTATIVO NAS PRIMEIRAS SÉRIES DO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL: UMA ABORDAGEM SOCIOCOGNITIVA E SOCIODISCURSIVA DO TEXTO DE OPINIÃO.TEREZINHA MARIA BARROSO SANTOS 31 March 2006 (has links)
15 anos).
contexto escolar.
do discurso escrito; (2) as influências do modelo
conversacional de mudança de turno na escrita do aprendiz;
A análise orienta-
aprendiz, no tocante à atitude epistemológica e
evidencialidade.
determinar a dimensão pragmática, discursiva e
[en] In the field of Psychology and Didactics of Language many
researches on the acquisition and learning process of
argumentative discourse among elementary school students
have led us to approach this discursive competence based
on the parameters of adult mode of writing arguments. As a
result, studies on the subject matter tend to conceive the
children`s essays in terms of inadequacy and lack of
proficiency; and as consequence of its complex cognitive
demands the teaching of argument has been belated to the
end of elementary school curriculum (14-15years old). The
implicit hypothesis behind this procedure is that there is
a graduation-succession for the learning of discursive
genres in a way that narrative and descriptive genres
should precede systematic teaching of argumentation. The
prime goal of the present research is to determine to what
extent 8-11 year-old pupils have represented for
themselves the argumentative schema when they are asked to
write an opinion essay as a school task. The second one is
to identify how this textual schema is carried out by the
learning children and textualized into written mode of
language, considering (1) children`s cognitive development
level to deal with the dialogic dimensions of written
discourse; (2) the turn-take conversation influences on
their writing, and (3) children`s lack of formal learning
of argumentative genres in school curriculum. For this
purpose we took as our basis on the sociocognitive
hypothesis of language acquisition and on
socionteracionist approach of language. The research
analyses a longitudinal corpus composed of 145 essays
produced by the same elementary school students from 2nd
grade up to the beginning of 5th in a public school. The
students were asked to write five different opinion
essays. The analysis is split into two main focuses: the
first one highlights the way the learning children build
their written opinion in terms of textual configuration
through both articulation and coordination of textual
sequences; the second focus highlights the nature of
arguments chosen by the learning children in terms of
epistemological attitude and evidenciality. The research
confirms that in the genre of argument and expressions of
opinion, most of the children displays a particular
knowledge to categorize communicative events of language
in use, although the cognitive model triggered to convince
and persuade the addressee could not necessarily suit the
adult prototype schema and school expectations. At the
same time, it also shows that a simple argumentative
disposal does not determine beforehand the textual schema
triggered by the children to frame their argumentation;
contextual and sociocognitve features also determine the
pragmatic, discursive and argumentative dimension of the
text. Due to the features shown in the present research,
and as far as pedagogy and didactic of language is
concerned we defend that systematical and progressive
teaching of argumentation should begin as early as
possible in school context.

Previous issue date: 2009 / This work presents a study about all genres, like persuasion resource in advertising, analyzed from Semilinguistics theoretical model, it was proposed by Charaudeau (2008), whose goal is to verify how all genres takes part in the enunciated construction, considering the position which was adopted by the subject (allocution, elocution and no locution) in the staging and to analyze which form the position adopted by this subject in the advertisings contributes for the construction of the persuasion. We have analyzed 20 advertisings that advertise or sell one benefit or service. Like analysis criterion of all genres, we consider that there was deviation or maintenance of the sense, of the content, of the thematic and of the style of the involved genres. Yet in the analysis of the argumentative way, we chose as analysis categories, the argumentative relation (assertive of departure, of arrival and of the passageway) and the argumentative device (proposal, proposition and persuasion) the analyses revealed that the investigated advertisings did not suffer alteration of their recurring elements (body of the text and signature/type). For all genres, while stylistic resource, reproduces profound or superficially the contract, the thematic and the textual organization from other genre, allowing that the advertising assumes all the characteristics of this other genre, inclusive of the positioning of the subjects inside the enunciated staging without the appellative character be abandoned. In the analysis of the enunciated way , we verify that all genres served to build a staging in which the subject commentator practices influence relation and authority in relation to the interlocutor attesting a positioning of the own allocution of the advertisings. we also prove that the argumentation starts being organized from all genres and, thus, the genre used in the advertising serves like cloth of fund for the development of the staging. In short, the analyses proved that all served as the base element of the staging composition as advertised as argumentative and, therefore, it takes part and it interferes in the construction of the way of telling of the advertising genre / Este trabalho apresenta um estudo sobre intergenericidade, como recurso de persuasão em anúncios publicitários, analisado a partir do modelo teórico da Semiolinguística, proposto por Charaudeau (2008), cujo objetivo é verificar de que modo a intergenericidade participa da construção enunciativa, considerando a posição adotada pelo sujeito (alocutivo, elocutivo e delocutivo) na encenação e analisar de que forma a posição adotada por este sujeito no anúncio contribui para a construção da persuasão
