Čínska soft power v ázijskom regióne / Chinese soft power in AsiaJanáková, Zuzana January 2009 (has links)
Within the context of the foreign policy of the People's Republic of China, one hears frequently about Chinese "soft power". This work deals with Chinese soft power in three Asian subregions - Southeast Asia, Japan & South Korea and Central Asia - in order to verify to what extent can soft power be regarded a universal approach in Chinese foreign policy. After introducing the concept of soft power this work is aiming to explain the characteristics of Chinese soft power, define the potentials and limits of Chinese soft power resources and explain how soft power corresponds with China's general strategy of foreign policy. In order to create an image of Chinese soft power in each of the three subregions, I define the key soft power tools according to which I measure Chinese soft power: Bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, promotion of culture and language (mainly through Confucius institutes), education of foreign students at Chinese universities and foreign aid. The rest of work is an analysis of employment of these tools in the respective subregions.

South-East Asia College: History, Development, Problems, and Issues Related to Achieving University StatusChaowichitra, Jiravadee 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to describe the history, development, problems, and issues related to achieving university status of South-East Asia College from 1974 to 1993. This historical research used records and documents from South-East Asia College and the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions of Thailand as primary sources. Also interviews with the president, faculty and staff of South-East Asia College were used. Secondary Sources were reports and publications from the Ministry of University Affairs in Thailand. The areas of emphasis in the study were government policies on private higher education, legislation that initiated the founding of the college, the founder, the college's goals, financial sources, curriculum, library, faculty, students, and buildings. It was found that the Thai government encourages the establishment of private higher education institutions. The Private Higher Educational Institution Act of 1979 was enacted to allow private universities to be equal to government universities. South-East Asia College was founded in 1974 by the Khunya Plak Muanpiew Foundation with the purpose of training Thai students for industrial technologies and business sectors. The college requested university status in April, 1987. The first attempt was turned down. Four areas not meeting the requirements were the library, faculty, students, and buildings. The college made a second request in December, 1991, and the change in status of South-East Asia College to South-East Asia University was approved in March, 1992. Suggestion for further study include: (a) the study is limited to one private university; a further investigation should be made of the other private institutions; and (b) a study should be conducted to identify factors which will contribute to the future development of South-East Asia University.

[pt] A MUSA E O ELEFANTE: CULTURA HISTORIOGRÁFICA E CRÔNICA NA PRIMEIRA MODERNIDADE: PORTUGAL E AS VISÕES DA ÁSIA (SÉCS. XVI-XVII) / [en] THE MUSE AND THE ELEPHANT: HISTORIOGRAPHICAL CULTURE AND CHRONIC IN THE EARLY MODERN PERIOD: PORTUGAL AND THE VISIONS OF ASIA (XVI-XVIITH)29 June 2021 (has links)
[pt] Esta tese investiga a formação da historiografia moderna através do gênero
crônica no império português.
Império Turco-Otomano e do Malabar. Nossa hipótese sustenta o argumento de
que nesse período surge um regime de historicidade distinto do praticado no
Medievo, o qual denominamos pela categoria histórias do mundo. / [en] This thesis investigates the formation of modern historiography through
the chronic genre in the Portuguese empire. Written in the second half of the 16th
century, Asia, by João de Barros has a unique history and its writing was
continued by two writers of Goa in the seventeenth century, Diogo do Couto and
António Bocarro. In this study, I seek to establish the definitions and functions of
the concept of history in the literate humanist Portuguese culture and the
variations of historiographic practices, related to the establishment of the State of
India between chroniclers and travelers of the Ottoman-Turkish Empire and
Malabar. Our hypothesis supports the argument that in this period a regime of
historicity emerges distinct from that practiced in the Middle Ages, which is
called by the category stories of the world.

Japan: The New Leader of Free Trade? Case-Study on Japan's Role in the CPTPPCasas González, Núria January 2019 (has links)
This paper aims at contributing to the debate about Japan’s leadership capabilities. Lately, scholars from all around the world have referred to Japan as the “new leader of free trade”. This comes as a surprise, as the country has always been the archetype of a passive and mercantilist state. Therefore, what role is Japan playing in contemporary free trade agreements? What leadership style, if any, is the country exercising? What changes has Japanese leadership experienced in the last decades? Testing theories of this kind is challenging because there is limited information on the topic and most of it is only available in the language of the country in matter. Drawing on a case study based on the role of Japan in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and analyzing it from Young’s framework on political leadership, this article concludes that Japan is exercising a leadership role in contemporary FTAs.
