L’objectif de la présente recherche est double: il s’agit dans un premier temps de proposer une autre lecture de Mein Jahrhundert de Günter Grass à partir des manuscrits en adoptant une perspective génétique au plus près du texte. À partir d’un corpus d’étude restreint, mais représentatif, recelant des documents sources explicites et montrant les différentes phases rédactionnelles nous avons mis en évidence un certain nombre de procédés caractéristiques de l’écriture grassienne et de phénomènes tant endogénétiques qu’exogénétiques révélant le recours à une intertextualité protéiforme déclarée ou dissimulée. Cette entreprise descriptive et interprétative s’est ensuite doublée d’une démarche herméneutique destinée à vérifier si l’ouvrage satisfait aux ambitions didactiques affichées par l’auteur en matière de transmission de l’Histoire, une transmission à finalité civique visant à prévenir ses bégaiements. En optant pour la polyphonie et le récit par le bas Grass entend également combler les lacunes du discours historiographique officiel. À l’issue d’un travail de recherche des sources avérées ou hypothétiques, nous avons mis en évidence que Grass a essentiellement recours à des sources journalistiques lui permettant d’ancrer le récit dans la réalité historique et d’inscrire son livre dans une veine populaire. La présence d’une matière documentaire implicite souvent dense requiert toutefois un savoir extratextuel de la part du lecteur, ce qui va à l’encontre d’une écriture populaire de l’Histoire, même si plusieurs degrés de lecture sont possibles. Le recours à la polyphonie prétendument garant d’une narration pluriperspective est un leurre en raison du marquage axiologique négatif de certains narrateurs laissant transparaître la position idéologique de l’auteur. Le choix des narrateurs, qu’ils soient empruntés à la réalité historique ou fictifs, comme celui des événements s’inscrit dans un système de valeurs univoque faisant constamment référence au discours épitextuel de l’auteur qui peut faire figure d’intertexte. L’écriture de l’Histoire s’appuie ainsi sur une rhétorique de la répétition polymorphe et transversale qu’elle soit autotextuelle, thématique, picturale ou concerne les procédés narratifs, ce qui accrédite la thèse d’un haut degré d’autoréférentialité de l’ouvrage et d’une perception autocentrique du siècle. / Our research has a dual aim: first to offer a new reading of Mein Jahrhundert by Günter Grass from the manuscripts and from a genetic perspective while remaining as close as possible to the text. Using a restricted but representative corpus of studies with explicit source documents and pointing to various phases of writing, we have highlighted a certain number of procedures which are characteristic of the way Grass wrote, as well as phenomena of both an endogenous and exogenous nature which show his recourse to declared or hidden proteiform intertextuality. This descriptive and interpretative undertaking was then doubled with a hermeneutic approach aimed at establishing whether the work fulfils the didactic ambitions the author asserts regarding the conveying of History with a civic agenda aimed at overcoming the author’s stuttering. By opting for polyphony and a narrative from below, Grass also intends to fill gaps in the discourse of official historiography. After researching proved or hypothetical sources, we were able to demonstrate that Grass essentially uses journalistic sources which allow him to anchor his narrative in historic reality while writing his book in a popular vein. The presence of often dense implicit documentary material nevertheless makes far‐reaching extra‐textual knowledge on the part of the reader necessary, even if various layers of reading are possible.Recourse to the polyphony which is put forward as a guarantee for a narration from differing perspectives is misleading because of the negative value judgements of certain narrators revelatory of the author’s ideological position. The choice of narrators, whether borrowed from historic reality or fictional, just as the choice of the events is part of an unequivocal value hierarchy which constantly refers to the author’s epitextual discourse, which may be read a an inter‐text. The writing of History thus is based upon a rhetoric which consists of polymorphous and transversal repetition, ranging between autotextual, thematic, and pictorial and absorbed by narrative procedures. This corroborates the hypothesis that the work is highly self‐referential and based upon a self‐centred perception of the century.

The purpose of this diploma thesis is to prepare the project documentation of the construction part for the building of the kindergarten according to the legal decree number 499/2006 Coll. on construction documentation. Projected building is a detached two-storey building located on the plots number 534/3,534/4, 536, 540/13 in the cadastre unit of Brno-Ivanovice. It is designed as building with storey partly below ground level and has wheechair access to both floor. The structural system of the building is combination of RC wall structures and columns and clay internal masonry. The roofs are designed as intensive green roofs. Designed kindergarten includes three classes for total of 75 children.

The relationship between above-the-line advertising and below-the-line promotion spending in the marketing of South African products and services

The rapid increase in the expenditure on below-the-line promotions (consumer and trade promotions, direct marketing, sponsorship and public relations) relative to above-the-line advertising (television, radio, print, outdoor and cinema) in South Africa has earmarked a new era of integrated marketing communication strategies across all sectors. Ultimately, this strategic shift has brought about a need to better understand the relationship between above-the-line advertising and below-the-line promotions and to measure the impact of such changes on company sales/profits over the long-term. In the research undertaken amongst 250 senior marketing, brand and product managers of South African brand-owned companies, the relationship between above-the-line advertising and below-the-line promotions in the marketing of South African products and services was investigated across six different economic sectors. It was evident from the findings that most brand-owned companies currently integrate above-the-line advertising and below-the-line promotion activities. The study shows that most brand-owned companies in South Africa combine press, radio and television (above-the-line) with consumer promotions (below-the-line). The most frequently used above-the-line advertising medium is television, which is also seen as the most important mode to support long-term brand building amongst consumers. In turn, print is regarded as the most important above-the-line mode to support trade franchise building. Most frequently used below-the-line modes include direct marketing and public relations. Direct mail and cooperative advertising are seen as the most important below-the-line consumer and trade franchise building modes respectively. Although marketing communication expenditure is positively skewed towards above-the-line adverstising, most recent trends show a gradual increase in the use of below-the-line promotions. To prevent a brand's sales/profits from decreasing over the long-term due to too high below-the-line promotional expenditure, the study encourages a sound balance between above-the-line advertising and below-the-line promotions. Although the ideal ratio of above-the-line advertising to below-the-line promotions is related to the nature of the product and service being marketed, the extent of competitive activity in the market and the frequency of purchase, amongst many other salient factors, the study regards a 60/40 ratio as the most ideal for building long-term brands. On the other hand, a ratio of 35/65 is regarded as the critical point at which company sales/profits may deteriorate because of too high below-the-line promotional spending. In conclusion it can be said that the marketing communication industry of South Africa has entered a period of integrated marketing communication practices which requires sound marketing communication budget strategies conducive to the long-term survival of South African products and services. / Business Management / D. Fundamental concepts of Limba traditional religion and its effects on Limba Christianity and vice versa in Sierra Leone in the past three decades

This study is the product, chiefly, of fieldwork, undertaken in Sierra Leone, which sought to interview and experience contemporary Limba religio-cultural practices. Using a systematic approach, the goal was to provide a broader understanding of Limba religion, as well as to discover the effect of Limba religiosity, and the tenacity with which the Limba hold to their culture and religion, on the National Pentecostal Limba Church (NPLC) over the past three decades. The study begins with an introduction, which outlines its objectives and structure, the research methods, and its general outline. This is followed by a basic introduction to the socio-history of the Limba people, their origin, environment, language, politics, economy and other socio-cultural characteristics, in order to provide an understanding of the background on which their religion is formed. The heart of the study is a detailed examination of Limba religious beliefs and their intersection with Christianity. It includes a definition of Limba religion and its components. This seeks to identify the current state of Limba religion amidst the changes it has experienced and continues to experience as a result of internal and external influences, and to provide a template for this study, an analysis of the Limba belief in a supreme creator God whom they call Kanu Masala, his epithets, attributes and activities, Limba worship and worship methods, the Limba understanding of the spirit world, humankind, sin and salvation, and the roles of sacred specialists. The study concludes with an examination of the causes of the tenacious loyalty with which some Limba Christians hold to their traditional religious beliefs and practices, their reluctance to part with them, and the effects of their dual religiosity on the NPLC, as well as the church's response, and the resulting reciprocal effects over the past three decades in Sierra Leone. The feasibility of rainwater and stormwater harvesting within a winter rainfall climate context: a commercial building focus

Cape Town, South Africa, falls within a winter rainfall region, making it difficult to assess the feasibility of rain- and stormwater harvesting. The reason for this is because the region’s high water demand period coincides with the low rainfall summer season, thereby limiting the availability of this alternative water resource when most needed. During this study, rainwater harvesting for toilet flushing purposes, collected from roof surfaces, was practically assessed by means of inserted flow meters at a pilot study site in Kommetjie, Cape Town. The combined and single system roof- and land surface runoff yields and savings of commercial buildings within the Kommetjie business area, were also theoretically assessed by making use of a mathematical roof- and land surface runoff model specifically developed during this study. The statistical testing of the hypotheses statements relating to the pre- and post-harvesting savings at the pilot study building, compared against the average actual municipal water usage, were performed. Hypotheses testing were also performed in order to compare the theoretical rain- and stormwater runoff yields for the commercial business area against the average actual municipal water consumption. The conclusions drawn from this study indicated that valuable potable water, as well as related financial savings, can be achieved within a winter rainfall region, thereby making rain- and stormwater harvesting a feasible option for commercial businesses in Cape Town. / Environmental Sciences / M.Sc.
