Boxes with artificial habitats support saproxylic beetles in green areas near and within cities

Ryding, Caroline January 2020 (has links)
The highest terrestrial biodiversity in Sweden is connected to old grown deciduous trees with tree trunk hollows and dead wood, such as oak and maple. A reduction of deciduous forest and old grown trees from anthropological activities has left many habitats wanting in size and fragmented. Many saproxylic species that are dependent on old grown trees with tree trunk hollows are now threatened. The aim of this study was to further develop artificial habitats (boxes) used for conservation of saproxylic beetles. The boxes were made larger, placed in cities’ green areas and filled with produce from the surrounding areas. The study assessed the effectiveness of these boxes, regarding species richness and composition, compared with earlier studies and tree trunk hollows. The study also aimed to assess what variables might affect the species richness and family and species composition. During April to August 2019, 3454 individuals of 105 saproxylic species were collected in 55 boxes. Of the species dependent on tree trunk hollows, 45% were found in the boxes, compared with tree trunk hollows. Of the variables included shading of the box, the amount of buildings surrounding the box and the amount of forest surrounding the box were found to affect species richness. More shading and a larger forest area increased the species richness in the boxes, and a higher concentration of buildings decreased species richness in the boxes. Conclusively, this study showed that boxes placed in cities’ green areas could act as an alternative habitat for saproxylic beetles.

Alcarraz Miraval, Leonor Lastenia, Fierro Galarza, Andrea Corina, Ochoa Marin, Ronald Ricardo, Zambrano Salazar, Diana Lucia 13 July 2020 (has links)
Lunch boxes "Biokids" is a project for school children, contributing to their academic and physical performance through our healthy, nutritious and delicious products. This proposal is based on the need of parents to offer a healthy lunch box for their children, because they spend most of their time at school and many of this schools do not offer them nutritional alternatives in their establishments. Additionally, the percentage of working parents is increasing, which often limits the preparation of a correct lunch box for their children. In the course of this project, the National Health Emergency began due to the spread of the SARS-COV2 virus worldwide, for this reason the project had to take a turn and develop a new brand, since it was not hold face-to-face classes throughout the year. That’s how, “Biofit Boxes” was born, as a biodegradable box containing healthy, nutritious and high-quality products. It is a product with a larger target audience and favor the increase in the financial statements and sustainability of the company. To implement this project we require a total investment of S/32,903.00 Soles, of which 50% will be financed by a financial institution and the other 50% will be from the participation of the shareholders. We have a good financial projection in the years following to the investment, so we consider the realization of the project is viable. "Lunch boxes Biokids" and “Biofit Boxes” will contribute to the improvement of the eating habits of children, youth and adults in the city of Metropolitan Lima and reduce the percentage of obesity, overweight, and others. / Trabajo de investigación

Determinantes del costo de eficiencia de las Cajas Municipales de Ahorro y Crédito del Perú para el periodo 2010-2018 / Determinants of the cost of efficiency of the Cajas Municipales de Ahorro y Crédito of Peru for the period 2010-2018

Cerna Padilla, Franklin John 17 July 2020 (has links)
There is a recent interest in the study of efficiency on microfinance institutions, given that it is related to indicators of profitability, sustainability, and greater scope to supply more people. Likewise, efficiency costs could be a limitation for the social objective they pursue. However, the study of the determinants of efficiency costs and the possible trade-off with the outreach of the CMAC of Peru has not yet been explored. For this reason, this research work seeks to approximate this relationship by adding specific variables of the CMAC and macroeconomic variables through a Within the model of fixed effects. The estimate identified the non-existence of trade-off between outreach and cost-efficiency. In addition, the growth rate of debtors, the average loan per person, the self-sufficiency index, total assets, age, the growth rate of GDP, and inflation would be the most relevant determinants of cost efficiency for the CMAC of Peru. / Trabajo de investigación

Provenance et Qualité dans les Workflows Orientés Données : application à la plateforme WebLab / Provenance and Quality in Data Oriented Workflows : application to the WebLab Platform

Caron, Clément 03 November 2015 (has links)
The WebLab platform is an application used to define and execute media-mining workflows. It is an open source platform, developed by the IPCC1 section of Airbus Defence and Space, for the integration of external components. A designer can create complex media-mining workflows using components, whose operation is not always known (black-boxes services). These complex workflows can lead to a problem of data quality, however, and before this work, no tool existed to analyse and improve the quality of WebLab workflows. To deal with black-box services, we choose to tackle this quality problem with a non-intrusive approach: we enhance the definition of the WebLab workflow with provenance and quality propagation rules. Provenance rules generate fine-grained data dependency links between data and services after the execution of a WebLab workflow. Then the quality propagation rules use these links to reason on the influence that the quality of the data used by a component has on the quality of the output data…

Achieving Uniform Flow Distribution in Compact Irrigation Splitter Boxes with High Flow Rates

Hogge, Joshua Ryan 01 May 2016 (has links)
In many irrigation systems and networks, there are multiple water users and shareholders who take their water from different locations along a single canal or pipeline. Often, irrigation splitter boxes are used to divert water to multiple shareholders from a single location. The splitter boxes, which can be small and compact, are generally installed at different locations along a piped irrigation supply line. The purpose of a splitter box is to split a specific amount of water so that each user receives their allotted portion, regardless of the flow rate in the system. Each splitter box usually includes two compartments, separated by a wall that acts as a weir for the water to flow over. The water in the supply pipe enters the box and fills the upstream compartment until it spills over the weir. As water flows over the weir, it is separated by vertical dividers. Each divider is positioned to split a certain percentage of the total flow to one of the outlet pipes, which carry the water to various destinations. In general, splitter boxes perform very well at lower flow rates. However, if high flow rates are present in the box, due to under-design of the box or for any reason, the water surface becomes turbulent and the flow profile over the weir becomes disturbed and nonuniform. Because of these conditions, the flow becomes unevenly distributed and an accurate flow split cannot be achieved. This study focuses on developing a solution that can be installed in flow splitter boxes to effectively dissipate energy and uniformly distribute the flow across the length of the weir during times of high flow rates.
