A Methodology for Business Process Innovation on E-commerce Platform

Chen, Mei Shing Unknown Date (has links)
The increasing use of internet and the growing popularity of mobile devices have created a new competitive environment on the Electronic Commerce (EC) platform. Businesses must develop add-on values in services to strengthen the competitiveness. Under the inevitable trend of global EC, not only the retail industry but also financial industry has been highly affected. This Innovative wave may even lead to an industrial revolution. In order to keep the market competitiveness with EC, enterprises would need to shift focus from cost, productivity and operating efficiency to customer needs. Enterprises nowadays are facing the challenges of modifying existing processes and integrated technology to provide customers with most suitable and innovative services. The research objective is to develop a practical methodology to evaluate and redesign the e-business processes of a firm and enhance their competitive advantage. This study investigated concepts and methodologies in e-commerce, business process management, business process reengineering, business process innovation, business systems planning, service quality, and moment of truth. Based on the perspectives of customers’ needs and service satisfaction, the study analyzed and integrated critical success factors of process improvement and process innovation to construct a methodology for e-business process innovation. With an action research process this study tested the proposed methodology on EC processes in a financial institution and discovered e-business process issues and innovation opportunities. The proposed methodology was validated and the feasibility of the methodology was verified by theoretical considerations, and proved to have reference value for enterprises in developing unique innovations in e-business services.

Applications of Digital Engineering Tenets to Naval Special Warfare Requirement(s) Definition

David Novotney (15360427) 28 April 2023 (has links)

The world continues to advance at a hastening pace towards a technology enabled, digital-centric future. Legacy organizations, not born in the ‘digital age’ are examining methods to adapt through Digital Transformation (DT). The US Department of Defense (DoD) is one such organization. The DoD emerged their 2018 Digital Engineering Strategy intending on transforming the enterprise from one with ‘engineering process [that] are document-intensive and stove-piped, leading to extended cycle times with systems that are cumbersome to change and sustain’ to one that is ‘transforming its engineering practices to digital engineering, incorporating technological innovations into an integrated, digital, model-based approach’.

The 2018 Strategy acknowledges that the integration of digital engineering will not be exclusive to the engineering communities of the DoD; rather, the integration will impact the ‘research, requirements, acquisition, test, cost, sustainment and intelligence communities’. While the Strategy is designed to explain the ‘what’ necessary to integrate digital engineering, the various DoD Services (and their subordinates) will need to develop the ‘how’ regarding implementation that is culturally appropriate to their commands.

The study sought to examine ‘how’ implementation of digital engineering tenets may be appropriated to the existent culture of one US Special Operations Command subordinate at the Echelon III level (namely Naval Special Warfare Group – FOUR). The results of this study are intended to provide understanding and illuminate meaning behind those themes in Digital Engineering that Subject Matter Experts within Naval Special Warfare view as suitably adaptable to their processes. The intent is to provide themes with utility towards further efforts and research aimed at phasing Digital Transformation initiatives at Naval Special Warfare Group – FOUR.

Black Food Trucks Matter: A Qualitative Study Examining The (Mis)Representation, Underestimation, and Contribution of Black Entrepreneurs In The Food Truck Industry

Ariel D Smith (14223191) 11 August 2023 (has links)

Food trucks have become increasingly popular over the last decade following the Great Recession of 2008. Scholars have begun to study the food truck phenomenon, its future projected trajectory, and even positioning it within social justice discourse along cultural lines; however, scholarship has yet to address the participation of Black entrepreneurs in the food truck industry.

The objective of this dissertation is to expand the perception of Black food entrepreneurs within the food truck industry by interrogating how Black food truck owners are misrepresented, under analyzed, and underestimated. Using a series of interdisciplinary qualitative methods including introspective analysis, thematic coding analysis, and case studies, I approach this objective by addressing three questions. First, I analyze movies and television to understand where Black-owned food trucks are represented in popular culture and how they are depicted. In doing so, we come to understand that Black business representation, specifically Black food truck representation consistently falls victim to negative stereotypes. These stereotypes can influence the extent to which Black food truck owners are taken seriously and seen as legitimate business leaders in their community. Second, I interview 16 Black food truck entrepreneurs to understand why the mobile food industry appealed to them and how it has become a platform for them to explore other opportunities. Finally, I review eight cities that have launched Black food truck festivals and parks within the last 6 years to gain an understanding of the collective power wielded by Black food truck owners and its impact Black communities. Moreover, this dissertation challenges the myth that collectivism does not exist among Black entrepreneurs and the Black community broadly.
