Os nós da arqueologia: leituras da paisagem e memória na igreja de Nossa Senhora da Saúde, Rio de Janeiro - RJ / The ties of archaelogy: readings of landscape and memory in the church of Our Lady of Health, Rio de Janeiro - RJ

Jackeline de Macedo 18 April 2011 (has links)
The chapel was built in 1742 by the slaves dealer Manoel da Costa Negreiros in devotion to Our Lady of Health, situated on a high hill together to the sea with prominence to the landscape of the region acting as a reference point for travellers and navegadores of bay of Guanabara. The Health\"s name became to nominate the hill, than the neighbourhood, and the chapel to act as a vector in urban expansion of the city of Rio de Janeiro together with the new port. From the XVIII century, the landscape of the region has suffered a radical process of transformation: from a soaked area, area peripheral of city, that represented a littoral zone with many bays and islands, becoming a dry area with successive earthwork and, a rectilinear sea zone, completely introduced in the urban zone. After many modifications and different owners the vestiges that got on the XXI century resulted in an abandoned church that urgently needs repair and reinvigoration. The church\"s reinvigoration project counted with a multi-disciplinary crew composed by historians, restorers, architectures and archaeologists. Through the researches analysis results was possible to build different \"pasts\" that represents the national patrimony since its recording as a historical site (Process nº 0036-T-38 August, 02 of 1938). Since all the churche\"s evidences and informations, surroundings of the city of Rio de Janeiro and their habitants, it shows indiction of a jewish tradition and the participation of multiples agents, between them, the jewish in the beginning of our society. We use the theorical-methodology concept\"s of a \"symmetric archaeology\", that includes a chain \"net\" with multiples agents, that maps the connection on time and space, instead of ending in an empty and homogenous chronologies. These connections permit to identify the relation nets necessary to build and transform the archaeological site, identifying the multiples agents involved to build and to maintain it, these nets contribute to the extension and business since the recovered \"stuff\" by the researches. The produced vestige by the actor and issued by the archaeologist represents the great \"tie\" to understand the connections that make the net and, a symmetrical analysis capable to make our relation with the materiality that left from the past and the contemporaneous materiality. Gathering in a supportable action, all the \"stuff\" become in actors and this \"stuff\" represent the ideal \"tie\" to \"receive\" and \"distribute\" the connections that make the net (OLSEN, 2003, p.98). The great \"tie\" and the recovered materiality by the archaeological research within point the own edification and the tiles that fill their walls bring the vestiges of a \"secret\" memory.

As relações entre cristãos e muçulmanos na Península Ibérica: perspectivas e práticas da igreja ibérica a partir da análise da Crônica Profética de Pseudo-Ezequiel (século IX) / Relations between christians and muslims in the Iberian peninsula: perspectives and practices of the iberian church from the analysis of the Prophetic Chronic by pseudo-Ezekiel (9th century)

Amanda Pereira Dias 14 October 2010 (has links)
The Church in the region of the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages, become a reference to the laic power, as it was for the people. Although it was backed by the Visigothic monarchy, still faced internal problems of dogma and situations resulting from human conflicts. The Arab expansionism brought to the Iberian region a confrontation, as well as civil, religious that threatened and weakened the homogeneous role that Church played in the territory. The coexistence between Muslims and Christians, who were enslaved, made the Church sought answers to the situation experienced at that moment, after the Muslims invasion in the Iberian territory. This dissertation sought to understand the speech prepared for the Church, written by one of its members, who would interpret the situation according to the ecclesiastical perspective. Concurrently, we find structural problems concerning the formation of the Visigothic monarchy, to consider the historical context in which it was produced the document used in this work.

O Líbano e o nacionalismo árabe (1952-1967): o nasserismo como projeto para o mundo árabe e o seu impacto no Líbano / Lebanon and the Arab Nationalism (1952-1967): Nasserism as a project for the Arab World and its impact on Lebanon

José Ailton Dutra Junior 09 May 2014 (has links)
The present study aims at describing the conflicting interaction between Arab nationalism and Lebanon between 1952 and 1967. Those years was the rise of Arab nationalism, which had the figure of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser your primary leadership. His goal was to promote the struggle of the Arabic speaking people against technological dependence and economic domination and / or policy of the central capitalist countries located in Western Europe and North America. As well as developing their societies and combat domestic conservative sectors, allies of Western capitalist powers and little interested in a deeper upgrade or a major improvement in living standards of the working classes. The ultimate aim of Arab nationalists was the unity of all Arab peoples in some kind of state structure. In Lebanon the idea of Arab unity was more difficult to accomplish, because a significant portion of its population, the Maronite Christians, do not see themselves as Arabs and sought to create a separate state for them in the early twentieth century, with the support of a colonial power European with whom identified themselves and had historical ties: France. However, that Lebanon could exist as economically viable independent state after World War II, Christian Maronites had to come to terms with the Muslim population, particularly the Sunnis, and accept that Lebanon was an Arab face. This agreement, known as the National Pact, ensured the existence of Lebanon and allowed it to become a commercial and financial entrepot in the Middle East, something desired by both her Christian elites (Maronite and other), and by Muslims. But while Lebanon was experiencing great economic growth in the 1950s, its Muslim regions were maintained in large part unrelated to this growth. The result was as follows: Muslim populations began to question the Christian dominance and saw in Nasser and Arab nationalism means for this. Their leaders have to follow them, while the Christian population, particularly the Maronites, felt threatened. These tensions, merged the ambitions of President Camille Chamoun and the scenario of the Cold War, led to civil war in 1958. Later, between 1959 and 1964 in a government of national unity, President Fuad Chehab tried to promote national unity, make investments state in Muslim regions, create an outline of social security and regular liberalism rampant in the country. Its partial failure and poor treatment of the population of Palestinian refugees by its security forces paved the way for the great Civil War 1975-1990

Homens de nação e de negócios: redes comerciais no mundo ibérico (1580-1640) / New Christians and businessman: trade networks in the Iberian World (1580-1640)

Ana Hutz 05 February 2015 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the Portuguese New Christians commercial networks in a specific period of the Modern Ages: the Iberian Union (1580-1640). The first part of this work connects the trade networks with two major issues: the new Christian identity, and the relationship between New Christians, the Inquisition and the Spanish Crown. Accordingly, the study emphasizes the strategies of businessmen and Portuguese New Christians in face of the tensions generated by inquisitorial persecution and the statutes of \"purity of blood\". The second part of this work analyzes an exemplary case of the connections and tensions above mentioned: the story of António Fernandes d\'Elvas and his family network. A business man and Portuguese New Christian, dElvas was a merchant and slave trader in the Iberian world, especially in overseas trade. This thesis considers that there was a reciprocal relationship between the New Christian identity and the organization of New Christians trade networks, in which the identity influenciated the organization of the trades and the trades reinforced the identity.

Promoting Biblical engagement among ordinary Christians in English churches : reflections on the Pathfinder project

Hunt, Isabel Cherryl January 2016 (has links)
This thesis contributes towards understanding of how ‘ordinary’ Christians, who have little or no experience of academic biblical study or theological training, might be enabled to engage more deeply with the Bible. I propose that attempts to cultivate the skills of biblical engagement among ordinary Christians might be shaped around lectio divina, this ancient practice being adapted for the situation of contemporary readers. The adaptations would involve use of a range of modern media with which to encounter the texts, working in small groups in order to make space for a more intentional engagement between the voices of multiple ordinary interpreters, and employment of strategies to enable readers to navigate a perceived tension when approaching the Bible: one between head and heart, academic learning and spiritual growth. More specifically, I propose that the promotion of biblical engagement among ordinary Christians should be undertaken as a planned programme with a suite of different resources, which complement one another in both style and aim, together with a sign-posted framework to show participants what each stage is designed to achieve. It should begin with a widely accessible introduction to the whole Bible that conveys the overall narrative and historical setting while communicating the sense that the reader is a participant in the ongoing biblical story. This and subsequent resources should be selected in order to attempt to integrate cognitive and emotive approaches to the texts and, where possible, straightforward terminology would be employed to maximise accessibility. These proposals emerged from my evaluation of an experiment in promoting biblical engagement among ordinary Christians (Bible Society’s ‘Pathfinder’). Analysis of, and reflection upon, the rich qualitative data generated there led to my examining the process of developing biblical engagement in the context of the lectio divina tradition and in the light of contemporary theological reflection across a wide range of theological hermeneutics.

Christian life narratives of young adults who have non-Christian family members in the Republic of Korea : narratives of keeping faith

Kwan, Hee Young 06 November 2008 (has links)
The present research has been undertaken within a narrative approach which is based on social constructionism. For the purposes of fostering more effective communication between science and theology, I also adopt the postfoundationalist way of thinking which was suggested by Van Huyssteen. I made use of the seven movements that were proposed by J C Müller to present the research undertaken with four young adult Christians. Korea is a multi-religious society in which various religions coexist, such as Buddhism, Confucianism, Shamanism, Christianity and several new religions. In the religious background of Korea, people are free to choose their religion, but sometimes their religious freedom has been limited by the patriarchal family system. In particular, young adult Christians who are in the period of emerging adulthood may face an even more difficult situation when they practise a different religion from that of their family. They are still under the strong influence of their parents emotionally and financially, but they want to be adults with their own independent identity. Moreover, Korean social prejudice against Christianity causes the young adult Christians much difficulty in maintaining their faith life comfortably. In order to listen to their stories regarding their faith life, I selected four young adult Christians who have non-Christian family members in their household, who are unmarried, and are therefore still dependent on their parents. With the co-researchers, individual interview sessions and group interview sessions were held, and a web-activity devised in which their stories were told and developed in collaboration with various disciplines that were influencing their discourses within the stories. They were experiencing tensions with their non-Christian family members in maintaining their Christian faith life and were feeling powerless in the relationship with them. Furthermore, in their relationship with other Christians in the church the co-researchers complained about the lack of understanding, regarding their specific family background, shown by those believers who do have Christian relatives in their household. The narrative research process allowed the co-researchers to interpret their difficult stories and to think through the meanings of these and their effect. In this manner, they could reinterpret their painful stories and uncover new meanings that might assist them to be more satisfied in the future. Having discovered new meanings for their painful stories, the co-researchers are not powerless people any longer; instead, they are active people who are dreaming for, or envisioning, a better future with their non-Christian family. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

The Judeo-Christian-contemporary tradition focused on different looks this portion. A history of exegesis as prolific as this implies a relevant question about the nature of the hermeneutic process: the extent to which ethical and religious factors external to the text itself influence the truth about it. This concern involves the core of this proposed study. The same concern is present in the work of the philosopher HG Gadamer's hermeneutical theory which stressed the historicity and finitude of the interpreter. The concepts of fusion of horizons, tradition and pre-concept may help to elucidate the different perceptions on this story so intriguing. At the same time open up the discussion of hermeneutical theory adequate to deal with religious texts. In this work, this will happen from an evaluation of the so-called "new hermeneutics" here represented by Gadamer, highlighting its contributions and limitations / Entre os textos bíblicos que mais foram debatidos pelos intérpretes bíblicos está Jz 11,29-40 cuja narrativa descreve o sacrifício da filha de Jefté que de alguma forma foi levado a cabo pelo seu próprio pai. Gadamer, cuja teoria hermenêutica ressalta a historicidade e finitude do intérprete.

[en] SECURITIZATION OF MINORITIES: THE CASE OF IRAN AND CHINA / [pt] SECURITIZAÇÃO DE MINORIAS: O CASO DO IRÃ E DA CHINA

06 December 2021 (has links)
[en] In countries like Iran and China, some religious groups have faced many difficulties regarding their freedom of religion—particularly Christians, the subject of this research. Such restrictions include the forbiddance of worship, detention, and imprisonments among others, all of these because the choice of Christianity as a religion. Being a Christian in these countries means being private of many basic rights. For this factor, the human rights issue is also emphasized in this study. Such groups are seen as threats from the point of view of the both Chinese and Iranian governments. They represent different values than the ones exhibited by their leaders. Through the studies produced by the Copenhagen School is possible to analyze how the minorities Christians groups have became a threat to those governments. These studies, in the fields of International Security, allow us to analyze the threat as a mutable concept. Therefore the main objective is to assess when and why these groups became a threat to those governments. Through the studies of the Copenhagen School, the case of minority Christians in Iran and China are discussed as examples to prove the theoretical perspectives.
